HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MELLAN!!! You look so handsome and happy! Have a wonderful day!

Haul: My New Year’s resolution is to go on an extreme low-buy, but I did allow myself one semi-pre-planned splurge. The only Ruby Woo lipstick I’ve ever owned was a mini version that broke a few weeks ago, so when I saw MAC’s new Lunar Illusions packaging on Temptalia, I decided to replace the broken mini with this beautiful full-size version. Macy’s has it on its website for $19.50 (as opposed to $20 on MAC’s website, which is not much of a savings, but I like to earn Macy’s points whenever I can). When I went to check out, I found out I had $10 in Macy’s Star Rewards available, so I got the lipstick for only $9.50 (plus tax)!

Weekend plans: Brunch get-together, family visit, laundry, grocery shopping, and binge-watching Stranger Things (I’m hoping it gets better after the first season).

What are you looking forward to this January? No more holiday treats, so (hopefully) losing weight!

Rachel R. Avatar

What a happy picture of Mellan! So cute!

Haul:
*Selfridge’s — PML x Star Wars Dark Galaxy and Galactic Gold palettes.
*Juvia’s Place — Fumi x Juvia’s The Queen Palette, and Mini Palette in The Violets and The Berries.

Weekend plans: Hopefully, our household will be feeling well enough to get some housework and grocery shopping done.

What are you looking forward to this January?: On the 17th, hubby and I are taking our sons to see Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live. I guess this is the last tour with Joel Hodgson, so I’m glad we’ll be able to go.

Haul: finally bought ColourPop Fred last week, when an email went out about the final restock. It really is as beautiful as expected, and a good segue into my low-buy for the year.

Weekend plans: my kids (9 and almost 6) finally announced that they want to see Frozen II in the theater, rather than waiting for it to be available at home, so we’re watching the first one tomorrow night (it’s been several years since the eldest has watched it, and the youngest has only ever sat through the first half) and then heading out to see #2 on Sunday.

Looking forward to in January: some extended time at work catching up! And enjoying the winter in my northern New England state.

Happy weekend all!

I picked up the Tarte Winter Wonderglam palette just before Thanksgiving and have been consistently loving it and reaching for it often. The suspended glitter shades are so intense and give multi-dimensional sparkle like no other. I usually avoid Holiday releases and have never been that into Tarte shadows but they did a great job with this one. Anyone who has looked it over as just another Holiday sparkly palette should stop and swatch it and see how pretty these glitters actually are.

Also, if anyone has any other recommendation for similar suspended glitter shades/ palettes I’d love to hear them. I think the next one I have my eye on is Huda New Nudes as it seems to have glitters with a similar formula.

My weekend plans are nothing and it’s amazing. This will be the first weekend with no plans/ obligations since early November and I’m craving at home time with my recliner and Below Deck (my latest binge watch fodder). Also looking forward to laundry and organizing my closet a bit to find some past favorite dresses I’ve forgotten.

This January we get to celebrate both my Dad’s and my niece’s birthdays and I’m looking forward to the family time and a good excuse to make some fancy cocktails and play with my new favorite glitters!

Wishing you all health, happiness, success and peace in the New Year! <3

Haul/Rediscoveries: I had to replace my L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine in Varnished Rosewood, since I managed to misplace it a few weeks ago… I put off buying a new one, hoping I’d find it, but ended up justifying replacement since I use it several times a week, and would likely finish both within a year if I find the first one.

Plans: A Target run with my daughter today, including lunch at Pizza Press. The rest of the weekend is reserved for cleaning & (hopefully) some reorganizing/purging my closet & makeup.

Looking Forward to in January: My daughter going back to school, LOL! Also, as I work for a staffing agency, I’m hoping to see more shifts become available…

AJ Avatar

Haul: Nothing, closest I got to beauty products was new deodorant, LOL.

Rediscovery: Finally tried the NYX Glitter Goals lipstick in “Bloodstone” that I bought some months back (remember buying it in NY but can’t remember if it was during April’s trip or 2018’s trip) and it looked really good on me. I only wore it for about an hour (just playing with makeup at home last night) but the formula felt much better than the Ciate Glitter Flip or whatever it was called. This one’s definitely going into the regular rotation.

Weekend plans:
Tonight: Stay in, watch last episode of Season 4 of The Expanse, work on cross-stitch kit.
Tomorrow: Go to a tour and cocktail class at a local distillery, have dinner at a Belgian beer hall.
Sunday: MASSIVE KITCHEN CLEAN AND REORGANIZE. I’ve told my spouse no more baking for them and no more cocktail making for me until we tackle the kitchen. Sick of not having any counterspace and not being able to find things.

What I am looking forward to in January: I’m taking a finger cymbal workshop with a famous Egyptian dancer and musician, and then later in the month we have our annual horror-themed theatrical belly dance show. I’m not even a big horror fan but I love the creativity on stage and I know a lot of the dancers who are performing, so it’s really fun to go out and support them. We even splurged on VIP tickets this year.

AJ Avatar

It really is! If you search “Horrific Belly Dance” on YouTube you can find some of the performances from the one I am attending this month, and if you search “Raks Terror” you can find some videos from the one my friend hosts in Chicago (I’ve never been to that one).

And as an audience member it’s a fun excuse to get wild with makeup! My spouse gave me some cute glow-in-the-dark horns for the holidays so I am going to do some demon or scary faerie makeup I think. Maybe a green lip to go with the green glow of the horns.

Rachel R. Avatar

OK, it looks so cool, hubby and I bought tickets for the 9 p.m. show. My husband and I were planning a weekend getaway for later in the month anyway, and this is a perfect excuse. I love horror. DH is not so much into horror, but he likes women of all sizes doing some bellly dancing! We thought it sounded like a fun night.

Thank you so much for the info, AJ! Your light up horns sound really cute. You definitely need to use something from your green lipstick collection to go with them.

AJ Avatar

Oh cool! We are doing the early show so I don’t know if we will run into you. But I am so happy that you are making a weekend out of it and I think you’ll have a great time. Tacoma is really up-and-coming and there’s a lot of fun stuff to do there.

Happy Birthday Mellan!!!
*Haul -nothing
*Weekend- ice skating, Girl Scouts
*January —enjoyed the holidays, but glad the frenzy is over with, looking forward to a more relaxing month

Nancy T Avatar

Such a joyful, well loved expression on Mellan’s face! He knows he’s loved! ?

Haul: From PMG: Star Wars Decadence Mothership Palette (!!!) plus the Flesh 3 balm with Star Wars packaging. From Ulta: MAC Lunar New Year highlighter and Ruby Woo lipstick, MAC 24 hour Eye Primer, a new tube of Maybelline Fit Me concealer in Medium, and a Real Techniques beauty sponge. From Sephora: the Glamglow set on the Sale In Sale, which is an unbelievable deal considering that the $59 size Glamglow Mud mask is in there! I’ll say this; this past week was a crazy roller coaster ride with the Decadence palette…I’m so thrilled that it’s on its way to me, but there were some serious rules involved, one of which really bothered me. I wanted to give my code to one other person, but wasn’t allowed to and had to promise not to. Conscience burn.

Weekend plans: Later today or tomorrow, I’m going to the theater at the local mall to watch Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker….all by my lonesome. I had asked, begged and pleaded with my son to meet up with me at a very cool midpoint theater, the one at Biltmore, but he let me know that he just wasn’t into Star Wars. Huge surprise considering that we saw the other recent 5 together, almost like a custom! I’m feeling bummed. Hair, nails, meeting on Sunday.

What are you looking forward to in January? Finding my new apartment! Yet, I’m also having tons of anxiety about this move, too. I’m not 100% sure how my physical endurance and health will hold up. CHF is a B!

Lindsey Avatar

Nancy, glad to hear you got your Decadence palette and balm. I know it was quite stressful. I ordered the same duo on the release date with no hiccups. My stress was that I was concerned that I would get a cancellation notice as many others had received. Finally, yesterday I got a text with a UPS tracking number. What a relief that it is on the way to me for delivery next week. Did you order the golden opulence palette? I impulsively ordered it because in the back of my head I thought that I possibly would not get my decadence/balm order. I purchased the dark galaxy and divine rose palette as well from the PMG site (those orders went quite smoothly) and received them promptly. I love the dark galaxy palette! I have to say that the effort to get the decadence palette was beyond exhausting, so much that I have decided to take a very needed break from makeup purchases. I just want to breathe and enjoy using what I have in my collection.

Nancy T Avatar

Tammy, I get exactly what you mean; the quest for Decadence has left me feeling extremely BURNT OUT. At least as far as makeup shopping goes. That thing kept slipping away and just evaded me until this past Monday. Now, like yourself, I’m going to do my best to enjoy what I DO have and quit letting FOMO get under my skin like this, because now I’m exhausted, disgusted and fed up with these sorts of marketing strategies. On the other hand, I can hardly wait for Tuesday to get here, as this is the scheduled delivery date for both the palette and the lip balm.

brendacr1 Avatar

I am so glad that you got the Decadence Palette Nancy. I know what you mean about being fed up with the extreme marketing strategies that cause the FOMO. I try not to involve myself in these LE products, but when it comes to PMG I have a BIG weakness! My palette is on it’s way as well and I can’t wait! Enjoy!

Happy birthday Mellan!

Haul: 2 tubes of Embryolisse face cream (it’s been sold out in several places so when I found it at Shoppers, I got 2 tubes and for 20% off as it was “seniors day”); Natasha Denona Mini Glam palette (as so many have noted, it isn’t the cool toned product the company led me to believe, but I still really like it as a neutral palette). I think that’s all, though I did receive a large bottle of Viktor and Rolf Spice Bomb and Kiehl’s tinted Butterstick lip balm for Xmas.

Weekend plans: gym tomorrow but mostly spending time with our son before he leaves on Sunday to return to Edmonton, where he’s stationed, and then he’s off to Ukraine in spring

What I’m looking forward to in January: nothing much, really. I’m hoping we won’t get too much snow (I hate having to clear snow – and worse, ICE – from my car in the mornings). I do want to get a bit more sewing done. That’s about it!

Happy B Day Mellan!

-I picked up Charlotte Tilbury’s Darling Easy Eye palette after considering it for a few weeks. I don’t go in for warm tones generally but I found this had enough rosiness to work on my coloring and I love it. It’s my only CT makeup/warm palette! I definitely don’t feel the need to look at any other palettes for a long time.

-Pizza tonight with friends, painting, taking down Christmas decorations, rewatching the Mandalorian lol

-This January I look forward to finishing a few painting projects! And maybe catching up with the Spider-Man comic run :’)

Haul: Started the year with skincare, since my cleanser and body cream are almost empty. So I order from Paula’s Choice the Daily Replenishing Body Cream (old favorite), Skin Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser (since my skin is really dry), Moisture Renewal Oil Booster (did I say my skin is really dry? I use this on my hair as well, to smoothen frizzies), a mini Peptide Booster (I hate the dropper applicator of the full size); as always, lots of minis as gift with purchase (Omega+ Complex Moisturizer – I actually use mini moisturizers as hand creams on the go, UnScrub and Omega+ Complex Eye Cream)

Rediscoveries: How good a new open lipstick feels. I try to toss away lipsticks one year after opening, as my collection is small and I use them often. But every time I open a new one I can really tell that my old ones are slowly going off. 😆

Weekend plans: Beyond the regular household stuff, I hope to make it a hiking Saturday and museum Sunday.

What are you looking forward to this January?: Nothing in particular, but I’m waiting to the performance theaters in my area to start the shows… I miss going to opera or a symphonic concert.

Valerie Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries:
?Natasha Denona Glam mini – amazing daily friendly palette, my favorite cool neutral palette
?Pat’s Golden Opulence – I just got it, it’s freaking amazing, I’m drooling all over it, it my favorite warm neutral palette
What can I say – unexpectedly amazing week for makeup ?‍♀️

Weekend plans: play with my new palettes, work on budget and taxes, get gifts to some friends I didn’t get to see over the proper holidays

What are you looking forward to this January?: waiting for some equipment to come in so I can start making videos, justify my makeup habit ?

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Happy Birthday and many more to the bestest and cutest and most loving lucky dog. You look so happy in your birthday hat, Mr. Handsome. Stay well in 2020. I’d been pretty good, but just caved to another CP with Flutter By and the LNY lip set. Caved to Steeletto at last, and sale on sale Soleil, which can be quite soft spoken with a light hand. The teeniness of it is fetching. Squeaked into Rouge, barely. Plans: Actually, with significantly less pain, have been able to do far more…and there’s lots left undone. January? Doing some of the things undone in the past 2 years. Looking forward to such minimal things that I used to take for granted. Reading more. Trying to use more/buy less. The latter will be easy, but the former can be a challenge.

Genevieve Avatar

Mellon so does look like the birthday boy, with a lot of treats and presents coming. He also looks a lot healthier and happier too. You are both great parents!

Haul: Absolutely nothing this week!
Rediscoveries: Just my usual rotation of palettes and quads. The bareMinerals Wild Thing is getting a bit of use lately. The blue shade Contraversy is divine.

Weekend Plans: It is still raging hot here and the bushfires have intensified over the past week or so. It has been pretty desparate in many small communities in East Gippsland (far east of my state), plus all the other bushfires in NSW and Qld that are still going. I am not quite sure how people can think it is safe to holiday in these areas, without checking the forecasts and bushfire predictions first. With most of the coastal towns there is only one way in and out.
Saturday – removing our front hedge has encroached onto the footpath, making it difficult for those with mobility issues to walk safely along. After removing it this morning, our front garden looks pretty awful, so we will be fixing it up in the next few weeks as the weather allows. Other than that, it just cleaning up the house, laundry and food shopping.
Sunday – it is predicted that there will be some rain, so it will be easier to get out some of the more stubborn plants and hedge roots. Plus a date with the ironing board.

Looking forward to in January: That we don’t have any more 43 degree C. days and lots and lots of rain. That’s what I want.
In late January, school starts back and Olivia will be starting primary school (elementary). She has her summer school uniform, school and book bag, so she is ready to go. It will be both exciting and a little sad to see her go. She is really ready for school though.

Tracey E Avatar

Hi Genevieve, I was hoping you might comment on the bushfires that are devastating parts of Australia. It’s good to hear that you are not in harm’s way. The scale of life, wildlife, and property lost is shocking and terrifying. I’m praying for rain and for the safety of all affected by these tragic fires.

Happy Birthday Mellan!

Haul/Rediscoveries: My Decadence Palette has been shipped so that is good news. I was up in the wee hours last night with a migraine, feeling sorry for myself, and did a little order for ND Duo Glow in Rayo, ND Tan Bronze and Glow Palette and a new Beauty Blender. I don’t like those nights, I end up spending money that I shouldn’t.

Weekend plans: We need to hit some sales to get new bedding and towels, my husband very rarely is in the mood to shop so I take advantage of it when he is lol!

What are you looking forward to this January?: My daughter’s 39th Birthday is on the 14th so we will be doing something nice for her. Then just back to packing up my basement.

Pearl Avatar

Happy (belated) Birthday, Handsome Mellan!

Haul:
Pat McGrath Decadence, Golden Opulence palette, Red Opulence lip gloss trio
Tom Ford Mink Mirage, De La Creme, Noir Fume quads

Weekend plans: Saturday – having a few people out to the house for various jobs and running errands in between. Sunday is a facial and doing a stamping mani.

What are you looking forward to in January?: Finishing up the house (re-organizing, re-decorating)!

Frozendiva Avatar

Happy Birthday Mellan from one Capricorn to another!

Haul/Rediscoveries: My 20% off Sephora order arrived the other day. Dior Capture Totale moisturizer and a Tom Ford Deco Scarlet Rouge lipstick. 20% off from the December 18-24 sale or whatever it was. The Dior moisturizer had been reduced about $50, plus the discount, and I had a gift card I hadn’t used. Guess the new Dior repackaged Capture Totale is now coming in to stores. A deal is a deal. Nothing else. Don’t really expect to buy anything for a few months.

Weekend Plans: Take down the front door holiday wreath. Most of Christmas has now been put away. Too lazy to leave it up for Ukrainian Christmas on the 6th and 7th.

January Plans: See the new Star Wars movie. Start the job search for the next stage in my life – life unfortunately happened in the last couple of months of 2019. Bored of being home and looking for more meaningful adventures.

Tracey E Avatar

Haul: Pat McGrath Golden Opulence palette. I expected my lipstick order to be fully cancelled and saw this quad available on Selfridges website, so took advantage of a purchase without the free for all.

Weekend Plans: My spouse and I are home in Canada for the holidays, so enjoying time with friends and family, while also helping with downsizing activities in both our families now that festivities have drawn to a close.

Looking forward to in January: I enjoy spending time with family in my home town once Christmas is over and we can be leisurely. I’m also looking forward to being reunited with my cat when back in the US and getting back to the gym.

Celesta Avatar

Haul: The Huda Beauty Nude Light Obsessions palette and the Bobbi Brown Love in the Afternoon palette; those were my last makeup purchase of 2019 and I’m planning on keeping it that way for a while.

Rediscoveries: Nothing, really. Other than I love mixing foundations/BB creams together.

Weekend plans: NORMALCY. November/December were incredibly hectic. And this past week was as well because I was test driving/purchasing a new car. We have a couple weeks of (hopefully) blissful, boring normalcy before we head to Florida for vacation at the end of the month.

What are you looking forward to this January? Driving my new car (it’s the newest/nicest car I’ve ever had, tho not brand new), I’m so excited to drive it! And of course, vacation! We’re going to WDW for a week with our two-year-old and we’re so excited!

Hannah Avatar

Haul: Charlotte Tilbury Darling Easy Eye Palette, rephr #15 brush, Kevyn Aucoin Contour Brush ($13 at Costco), Kevyn Aucoin Soft Buff Brush ($13 at Marshall’s), Kevyn Aucoin Etherialist Super Natural Concealer ($10 at Costco), and some skincare goodies.

Weekend Plans: literally nothing because I am so boring. Lol.

January: looking forward to getting some organizing done and creating my own recipe journal of my favs from my mom.
