Haul/Rediscoveries: KBShimmer Magnetic polish, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Tints, Burberry Lipglosses

Weekend plans: Work catch-up and then seeing Shakespeare in the park with friends – King Lear!

What are you looking forward to in August?: My friend will be visiting me from Tokyo!! I’m so excited. I can’t believe I tricked someone from Tokyo to make a side trip out to Philly. But it really is a wonderful city with a lot to see 🙂

I also like MAC Captive, but MAC Craving actually doesn’t flatter me. They are definitely dupes somehow, but Craving is slightly lighter and pinkish, with a slight hint of yellow-iness that looks not so good on me. I am always amazed with make-up that subtle differences in an undertone or shade can make so big impact.

OMG, the ears! So cute!

Haul: THE GOOD: Red Apple Lipstick in the shade Audrey. The shade is a beautiful, creamy rosy pink. I will probably need a lip liner with it, as I do with most lipsticks that are this creamy. Packaging is nice, too. Simple, textured black tube with a black-on-black logo. It came wrapped in tissue paper inside of a cute little drawstring bag that also included a pod sample of another shade. This brand is gluten-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, and vegan. THE NOT-SO-GOOD: I went in on an order of Color the World lipsticks with a coworker. I was not familiar with this brand, but they’re vegan, cruelty-free, a portion of the cost goes to different charities, and the cardboard packaging is adorable. Flawless (the shade she got) looks like a rosy mauve in the tube and on the website’s swatch, but on the lips it’s a very white-based pale pink. Huntress (the one I got, which supports a dog-related charity) is almost the exact same shade as my lips. It settles into my lip lines and feels drying after a little while. THE CONCLUSION: I’m not impressed with Color the World and can’t recommend it, but I am very happy with my Red Apple Lipstick purchase and I already have my eye on another shade! One more note on these lipsticks: Red Apple Lipstick has a 6-month return/refund/exchange policy (!!!), but Color the World does not allow any returns or refunds.

Rediscovery: I bought Tarte’s Salt Lyfe lipstick many months ago (maybe last year) and pretty quickly wrote it off. I decided to give it another try yesterday and now I absolutely love it!

Weekend plans: Relaxing, laundry, grocery shopping, reading, walking my dog, etc.

What are you looking forward to in August? Well, there’s a MAC lipstick release on August 1st that I’m looking forward to. Other than that, not much. One of my coworkers is going on vacation for a couple of weeks in August and his workload is probably going to fall on me.

Genevieve Avatar

That’s a shame about the lipstick Deborah – I like that fact that the brand donates money to charities, but it works only as long as the product is as advertised – the shade, the longevity, etc. It’s a bit poor when some of the products are a bit dud. Especially when you feel like you are supporting the brand.

Awww, Mellan! I love when you can tell they’re listening to see if you’re going to ask them something interesting 😉

Haul: I made my first Sydney Grace order this morning! I really wanted that Mountain Trail bundle 🙂 I also bought the Danny’s Dream bundle and three singles: Rushed, Scuba Diver, and Slayed.

Rediscoveries: Oh hey, I have eyeshadow singles! I decided to work with a few of them this week. Not sure of the exact names, I think they were some MUG shadows. It’s good to get back into the habit of using singles since I just ordered a bunch 😛

Weekend plans: My father-in-law and his wife are here. We are not close. I got us tickets for a wine and beer tasting festival in her favorite town here in WA though, so I’m pretty sure that gives me serious brownie points. They’ve got other plans Sun morning so my partner and I have decided to take ourselves out for a brunch date (I’ve just been researching potential spots now). And Sunday afternoon I’m going to a “dance jam” where I’m supposed to spend 30 mins teaching everyone a bit about my favorite prop, fan veils.

What am I looking forward to in August? I’ve been super impatient for August because next weekend I’m spending 4 days at a belly dance festival down in Portland, and later in the month I am spending a week in the New Mexico mountains for a belly dance retreat. I can’t wait!

Sydney Grace shadows Cadet, Commission, Go For It, Keep It Fun, Lucky Peach Moss, Mythical, Recruit, Save The Dance, Somber, Thrilled, Tiara, Troops and Turtle Doves

Sydney Grace Warm Mystery Bag
Sydney Grace Cloud Nine and Over the Moon setting powders
Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation, Setting Powder and powder brush
MAC Waterproof Haute & Naughty x 3 (Mascara Madness event)

Weekend Plans: The usual chores on Saturday and facial and manicure on Sunday. Dinner and a movie with friends at someone’s house (probably ours) on Saturday night.

What are you most looking forward to in August?: Weekend getaway at the end of the month!

Those ears say “happy doggo”!

Haul: This was a “what was I thinking” week. I went to Ulta to get another bottle of Mario Badescu Witch Hazel Rosewater Toner. I did get it…plus Ulta’s Frida Kahlo collection Beso de Amor Blush & Bronzer and Pasión Liquid Lipstick. Lipstick is *alright*, but the blush and bronzer duo only looks okay if I swill my brush picking up both to get a pinky brown nude cheek. As much as I love Frida Kahlo, these might be going back.
Also, after finally receiving and using CT’s Cat-Eyes to Hypnotize in Silver Leopard…yuck! Crease city! ?

Weekend plans: In the midst of my mani-pedi already. Tomorrow is hair day. May head down to Ulta to make a painful return. Meeting on Sunday. Wish I could go swimming, though!

What are you looking forward to in August? Two things! Our International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Chase Field Aug. 9-11th. Delegates from over 40 other countries will be attending and visiting Phoenix for both the Convention and subsequent vacation. So cool!
Also, on August 15th, my son will turn 33! I am trying to digest that fact even though we don’t celebrate birthdays. That my literal “miracle” baby (because of my having PCOS, I was told that my getting pregnant without medical intervention would be practically impossible) is turning this age already. It just has me thinking how we need to slow down and savor life every day, not just on one specific date.

Haul: Just a boring body lotion ordered on Amazon. But I might or might not have a Sephora 20% off coupon I might use soon.

Rediscoveries: Nothing new.

Weekend plans: Sending out some packages, groceries, meal prep, cleaning, attending a fitness expo on Sunday (which is the highlight of the weekend)… yep… I’m a make-up and fitness junkie at the same time.

What are you looking forward to in August? Well… nothing special… The musical season starts again in my area and there’s an Wicked performance in August. My driving license is expiring so I’m not looking forward on going to DMV to renew it. 😆

Haul/Rediscoveries: The only thing I’ve purchased recently was the Tarte Unleashed palette. I actually am really enjoying that palette! A rediscovery is my Tom Ford lipstick in Revolve Around Me (sadly discontinued, which is why I think I stopped using it everyday lol!).

Weekend plans: My husband just got back from a business trip so we will be keeping it pretty low key this weekend and just spending some time together.

What are you looking forward to in August?: My husband and I will be celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary in August!

Haul: nothing. I almost caved and got a Scentbird subscription, but better sense took over and I stopped myself. Personally, I’m just waiting for Sephora to have a sale so I can get the Sunrise palette for cheap/free (I have a $50 Sephora gift card).

Weekend Plans: I am actually off this entire weekend! Thank God! My dad is in town and my brother leaves for Sophomore year of college next weekend, so I’ll be at my grandparents house eating, napping, and playing with babies.

What Are You Looking Forward to in August?: A vacation! I’m not going anywhere (all of my money went to my new car), but I just want to sleep. I’m not telling anyone about it b/c it’s mine and I deserve sleep, lol.

Haul: nothing
Discovery: I have a nubbin of my fave Sephora liner – Cappuccino (I’m sure everyone is tired of me mentioning it); because it’s almost finished, it had dried out quite a bit but before I tossed it, I thought I’d try my makeup “fountain of youth”, aka Inglot Duraline, to see if it would work any sort of magic. I put a drop on the tip of the pencil, capped it and stored it upright – with the tip facing upward so the product could drip/soak downward. 24 hours later, my pencil is like a brand new one!

Weekend plans: family reunion at the cottage tomorrow so I have some foods to finish preparing and then we have to pick up my 94 year old mother in law to drive her to the get-together. 30 or so people coming and it should be fun.

What I’m looking forward to in August – just taking it easy and doing things I want to do (gym, yoga, a pedicure, hair cut and colour, maybe a facial) before school starts up again after Labour Day.

Mariella Avatar

Seraphine, I actually didn’t think it was going to work (I’d tried the same with a Marc Jacobs Highliner that had dried out quite quickly and it didn’t work) but I figured I had nothing to lose. I was surprised when it did work and it didn’t seem to have any negative effects on how the liner wore (I thought it might be more smear-y, but so far, so good). I learned from an Inglot SA that you can mix a drop with foundation or CC cream to make them longer wearing and it also imparts a nicer texture for blending the product on the face.

Seraphine Avatar

Thanks for that info, Mariella. I have a collection of MJ Highliners, but I’ve never had one dry out (I always scroll them all the way back down and put the caps on super tight). But I have Sephora pencils, too, so it’s good to know that trick.

Mariella Avatar

I was so pleased that it worked so I’m happy to share the tip! Thanks for the good wishes. I get all cranky beforehand (we have a few family members where a little of them goes a long way but I guess that’s the case in every large family) but always enjoy and end up wondering why I get so grumpy!

Adorable flicking of Mellan’s ears! Yes, I’m alert, and headed you way for a pat-up. Haul: the 2 other Creed scents came. Superb bargain, but still expensive. I’ll never see another 50% off, though. The problem was, they locked down my Ulta card, and that would have been a metric ton of points. Used my debit, but it took forever to get Ulta card back on, despite zero balance. Never having used CosBar (that packages like Beautylish), it was a substantial purchase, and way outside my profile. You can’t be annoyed; it’s actually quite protective. TF Costa Azura sounds tempting, and I have the Ultabucks. Actually forwent Mountain Trail and all other SG so far. Good restraint. Totally smitten by SG. W/e: trying some different cuts of meat, maybe grilling. Going in the ocean at sundown, due to ongoing sun intolerance. August means more ocean, no day job time off, due to yet another crunch. Finishing the book by Michael Finkel, the (/fired for a dishonest expose about the maltreatment of Cocoa workers in the Ivory Coast/ NYT journalist, whose identity was stolen by Christian Longo, the family annihilator, while the latter was on the lam in Mexico. The strangest true crime I ever read. Dogs out and about, heat permitting. (Last w/e was >100 degrees, and they got max 5 minutes on the porch. Dachshunds with cabin fever is the opposite of restful…)

I got the lovegasm… not that into it or the tan palette. Huda contour cream is really nice. Got the biba palette and really like it.
I got Samantha Marchs ofra highlight my first ofra and it’s nice although not into the blinding ‘lights’ so much.
Ordered some highlights and a ton of Sydney G.

The Buxom blush has unbelievable lasting power or maybe with the milk primer? Not that crazy about the color tho.

I’m on call all weekend but not too busy.. maybe?

Aug is my great nephews 5th bday on my dads bday who is gone. Can’t wait for my fav season fall!

Aw, Mellan is such a good boy! Sending him virtual pets and hugs.

Haul: Today, I ordered from the Sydney Grace Sale , and the new ColourPop Orange You Glad? Palette and Flower SZN Lux Lipstick. A few orders arrived while I was on vacation, though:

*ColourPop (sale) — Queen B Set (Uh-Huh Honey Palette and Exit Liner and Punch Liner Créme Gel Liners) and the Fame Palette.

*Nordstrom (Anniversary Sale) — Charlotte Tilbury Easy Portable Pocket Sized Smoky Eye Palette. I’m debating whether to try this one or just return it. I was on vacation with spotty internet service, so I ordered while I could. I thought it would be much cooler and rosy-toned based on the promo pics. However, it is really beautiful, and I’m curious to try CT’s formula. It looks like a great little minimalist neutral palette that would fit in a tiny handbag for going out. But I don’t really need the colors. The trials of being a makeup addict…

*Coloured Raine (sale) — Safari Raine Palette, Chameleon e/s single, Galaxy Liquid Lipstick, Prom Night Lip Gloss, and Arabian Night Satin Lipstick.

*Macy’s ($10 off w/reward) — MakeUp Eraser 7-Pc. Color Riot Tie Dye Set.

*Hot Topic (sale) — Beetlejuice Handbook For The Recently Deceased Eyeshadow Palette. I’ve been trying to get my hands on this cutie for collecting purposes for more than a year, and it kept selling out. The eyeshadows are surprisingly good and in coffin-shaped pans.

Weekend plans: Some of the cats’ fleas were Frontline resistant, so calling the vet to see what the next step is. I don’t want to mix flea treatments without supervision. At least the situation is much better than when we first treated the cats before going on vacation, and the house still appears to be flea-free. We’ll be cleaning and re-treating the floors/carpets/furniture again just to make sure, of course.

What are you looking forward to in August?: Spending some alone time with my husband! Aug. 16-17 my hubby and I are taking our camper to a fly-in in Arlington, WA (our airplane won’t be finished for a few years, so no flying in for us). There will be day- and night- time airshows, vendors, exhibits, flea market, Biergarten, and movie nights. On the way home on the 18th, we’re going to visit the Paul Allen Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum.

The 31st is our 28th wedding anniversary. We’re going to try to go away for a few days, and include a visit the Maryhill Museum of Art. It’s an old estate that’s only open March-November, and overlooks the Columbia River Gorge. We tried going a couple years ago, but there was a surprise, huge, horrible wildfire in the area, and we couldn’t visit.

Aw – Mellon thinks he is going to get a treat!
Haul – nothing much makeup wise, just a new pair of Navy ankle boots with a low heel (how hard is it to get Navy ankle boots here in Aus – I went through several shopping centres)
Rediscoveries: That Guerlain’s Les Gris has the best dark blue/teal eyeshadow ever!

Weekend plans: We are on Day 3 of our trip and all has gone according to plan. Tonight we are at Port Stephens on Mid north coast of NSW, where my cousin lives. We are going out to dinner with her and some of her friends. It should be lovely.
Sunday – Heading off to Coffs Harbour and will stay there for a few days. We intend to go Whale watching and visit some of the little craft towns in the hinterland. I have never been there before, so it should be exciting.

Looking forward to in August – well, we have heaps. After Coffs Harbour there’s Byron Bay and all the way up the coast of Queensland to Port Douglas. So it should be fun. David and I work well as a team. We are very similar personalities, so it has been lovely travelling with him.

Haul: Nordstrom (expiring note) Kevyn Aucoin Face Gloss

CCO (55-75% off): Tom Ford Lip Color Shine in Sultry and Lip Laquer Liquid Patent in Stolen Cherry; Bobbi Brown Lip Pencil in True Pink, Luxe Lipsticks in Almost Bare and Bare Pink, 6-pan refillable palette, Intensive Serum Corrector in Extra Light, Calypso Coral Pot Rouge blush (gift); Becca Fox Glove blush; and MAC Gentle Makeup Remover.

Placed a number of small orders with Net-A-Porter, Nordstrom, Selfridges, and Lisa Eldridge; will report on those next week.

Weekend Plans: Lunch with a friend on Friday, visiting a friend on Sunday whose garden is bursting with colour, and trying to stay comfortable as temps and humidity are on the rise again.

Looking forward to in August: My spouse and I are heading to Canada for a family gathering. I’m also hoping to enjoy time in our community sitting in front of a lake in an area with beautiful scenery and walking paths as temperatures become more comfortable.

Looking forward to in August:
