Haul: Nothing makeup related….I did buy a new suitcase set. I have to move and suitcases just work for books best.
Weekend plans: Not sure, possibly some bowling tonight. Tomorrow I have to go to my friends first wedding dress shopping experience, pretty excited for that. And probably some decluttering and cleaning my apartment in anticipation of packing and moving.
What was your favorite childhood movie?: I think my favorites during my childhood were Disney movies, specifically princess ones. Though when I was a teenager Prince of Egypt was my favorite sort of “childhood” movie.

Not too far, but there is a lot of clutter to handle that I don’t want to move.

HAUL: With the MAC code I bought Harmony blush and Embark and I’m into It eye shadows. Kind of dark for spring, but oh well.
WEEKEND: I need to find a full-length dressing mirror but hard to find a good one at a good price.
CHILDHOOD MOVIE: Omg, so many. I used to beg my mom to watch Hook, but she didn’t care for it so she’d tell me I’d seen it too many times hahaha. Ones that she approved of included Mary Poppins and the Princess Bride. And Disney of course.

Avoided new Cover FX and Marc Jacobs foundations till I see more reviews… They both look promising from the testers in store and I like to upgrade for texture reasons from my Tarte Amazonian clay foundation but I still need something with coverage. They are both over $50CAN though so I don’t just want to throw my money on they yet.
Weekend plans: Working on a broad width Backsword sword out of wood and transparent shield made out of pet-g vacuum form plastic for Anime North. 😉
What was your favorite childhood movie?: The little mermaid, Lion King and Nightmare Before Christmas. lol
I love both the new marc jacobs and cover fx foundations! I feel like marc jacobs lasts a bit longer but is a little more tricky to blend out, but cover fx still lasts well and looks like nothing on the skin 🙂
Haul: Nothing. I actually need to return my Nars Natural Radiant Longwear foundation. After finally getting my winter Fenty shade, I realized how heavy that foundation felt in comparison.
Weekend Plans: I have to work Friday night and Sunday. Hitting the gym & grocery store on Saturday, and then I’m going to try to finally go see A Wrinkle In Time.
Favorite Childhood Movie: Cinderella, the one with Brandy, Whitney Houston, Bernadette Peters, & Whoopi Goldberg. Such an epic movie. I also really loved all of the Disney animated movies, especially, Robin Hood.
Omggg I forgot about that Cinderella version, I loved that one. I had it on a VHS taped off the television! Such an amazing cast.
Haul: I did a bit of shopping at Macy’s with their 15% off beauty sale: Dior Lip Glow in Matte Pink, Lancome Rosy Plump and Highlighting Drops in the light color.
Weekend plans: dinner with friends, maybe a hike

Haul: Nothing yet! Beauty related: will probably get a Slip silk pillow case from Sephora and I need to find a good sunscreen. Home related: need some herbs and veggies, planters, decor for the covered porch, and some rugs. We did get a TV and sound system. I’ve never owned a tv.
Weekend: Shop, shop, shop. Lots to get for home! Food shopping, a movie on the new tv, and probably a fire pit tonight. I’ve been swimming a lot but will probably swim more. Unpacking and some cleaning will round the weekend out. Dogs have a vet visit right after work.
Fave movie as a kid: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Explorers. My favorite Disney movie was Peter Pan.
Sounds like you are really settling in there Erin, how are you finding the change of climate?
For all over sunscreen I do use the Nivea Moisture 50+, and if my very fair skin can survive the harsh Melbourne summer without getting sunburnt – you could try this. My favourite face sunscreen is the La Roche Posay’s Ultra light SPF 50 range. It also works as a primer underneath foundation too. I gave some to my daughter in law, who has your kind of colouring, for Christmas and it has worked well for her too.
That is one tired puppy dog!

Weekend plans: Laundry, touch-up my roots, do nails. Meeting on Sunday.
Favorite childhood movie? Because of my being on the Autism Spectrum, of course I had one movie I obsessed over: The Wizard of Oz. However, the one movie that I still truly enjoy watching to this day would be “The Sound of Music”.

Nancy, I thought the same thing! I ordered a bunch of stuff from MAC x Padma when it launched first day, then was miffed when MAC sent me the 25% off a week later, but it doesn’t apply to Padma collection. The exclusion is in the fine print in the email they sent me, and I tried to get the code to apply, but it didn’t. Macy’s has it for 15% off, but they only carry a limited number of items from the collection
Haul: I just came in the door with the Pat McGrath Sublime Bronze Ambition palette and I am SO excited to try it out.

Linda, I can already tell you that I wish they’d replaced one of the 2 or 3 very similar lighter golden shades with an ivory type brow bone highlight shade. I’ve not even tried the palette yet (haven’t had time as I had to change and head out for my daughter’s birthday dinner) but just looking at it, it’s like the ABH Mario palette all over again….”Why couldn’t you make room for just one light beige or ivory highlight?” (personally, I’m not wild for Throwing Shade so I’d have been happy to see that one replaced with a brow bone highlight). But I’ll let you know as soon as I get a chance to try this palette.
Okay, Linda – my initial verdict is “GRAB it”! I played with it a bit before cleansing my face for the night last night. I only used 4 of the colours – Copperized (which I thought would be dreadful on my colouring but which is absolutely stunning), Gilt Trip, Illicit (absolutely gorgeous) and a bit of Throwing Shade (which I thought looks UGLY and would be the dud in the palette…man was I EVER wrong – it’s great as a darker transition/upper crease shade – I was SO surprised; this is the effect a lot of people get with a warmer, more orange type of crease colour but which I’ve never found flattering on me but with Throwing Shade – WOW). I made a point of keeping my receipt for this purchase because, in all honesty, considering the price and just looking at it and swatching it a bit in store, I thought I might decide to return it in case it didn’t deliver enough bang for the buck (this was my experience with Marc Jacobs Edgitorial) but I can tell already that, in spite of the lack of a brow bone shade, I am really going to enjoy this one.

OK, I’m in. We have felt the same about a lot of shadows — Edgitorial (AWFUL), Empriente du Desert, to name a few so I’m listening intently. I’m hoping going into Boston tomorrow, and if I doI’ll be sure to go bare eyed and give it a go in Sephora.
I did just get the Viseart Absinthe, and I love it, FYI. I do not like the glitter in the beautiful gold shade (why?) but there’s so little of it I can easily work around it (even pick it off leaving the shimmer). But everything else is wonderful. Those greens are fantastic. I’ve been looking for the evergreen shade forever. Exactly what I wanted, and it all works great with my skin tone. Leaving my impression just in case you need a little nudge. 🙂
So it’s not just me who was dismayed by Edgitorial? I take some comfort in that. Honestly, I had such high hopes for that palette and when I got it, Sephora had counter testers of all the new MJ palettes EXCEPT that one or maybe I would have passed on it (or maybe not). I was surprised by what a let-down it was for me and it’s the only cosmetic item I’ve returned in years and years. The Viseart palettes aren’t available in-store here either but I am really tempted with that one….I just dislike ordering sight-unseen, as it were, online.
I don’t think I ever used anything worse than that MJ palette. I returned it too. It actually shocked me how bad it was.
One note about Absinthe… while the PMc doesn’t have a brow bone color, Absinthe doesn’t have a transition (like I don’t have options, LOL). Cocoa Bear lives in a palette on my dresser anyway, so I just grab it.
I’m with you though, sight unseen is not my favorite way to buy either. But that green looked right so I jumped on it. Glad it worked out because other than Sephora, it can be pain to return stuff.
The Sublime Bronze Ambition palette is gorgeous – I am sure you are going to love it Mariella. Lucky you for snaring one before they run out.
Genevieve, they weren’t exactly flying off the shelves…maybe because of the price or maybe because Pat McGrath isn’t as widely known as, say, MAC or UD. I was there the other day and saw them and the display was full; when I went back today to purchase, the display was just as full. I noticed they also had a Pretty Vulgar Cosmetics palette (something with Phoenix in the name) but there seemed to be no interest in that either. I was surprised they even had PV in-store as I didn’t know it was available in Canada. Do you have the Bronze Ambition palette, Genevieve?
No Mariella, I don’t have the Bronze Ambition palette. We can’t get PMG here in Aus at all. Sad face. I would like to see it in person first.
It is really nice, Genevieve but the reality is that all the shades really are pretty dupe-able for folks like us who have pretty extensive collections. And given the hefty Canadian price, I’m thinking that if this were available in Australia, the price would be pretty steep for you folks too. (you know, you could always come visit me in Canada, though I guess it would be a “hard sell” – I want to go to Canada to buy makeup!)
Oh, I meant to say also – and I’m sure I’ve said this at least 100 times already – that, like you, I really want to see things in person too, before I buy. I rarely order anything cosmetic from the internet for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is wanting to KEEP “bricks and mortar” stores like MAC and Sephora, stores I waited for for a long time and which I don’t want to see closing down in favour of their online presence. I also revel in the “instant gratification” of deciding to buy something, going to get it and coming home with it right away in my hand, rather than having to wait a few days for it to arrive (and hope it doesn’t get stolen from the front porch or mailbox while I’m at work).
Haul: Not much this week. I picked up a couple of things from Sephora on-line and haven’t received them yet but got J One Jelly Pack for my daughter. She used mine while we were in Spokane and she loved it as she has some texture secondary to acne but the Sephora in Spokane was out of the product so ordered that for her. For myself I picked up Marc Jacob Highline in Blaquer and Stila Glitter and Glow in the shade Into The Blue as Sephora didn’t have either of those. I got the Clinique Moisture Surge Gel and a few point perks. I broke my Kat Von D crushed metal eye shadow in Danzig so got that and lastly I picked up Atelier Cologne in Vanille Intense. I decided to spend some points and got the 500 point perks Alterna Hair system and Clinique Party Pops.
I also placed another order from Beautilish that included 2 worker one brushes from Sonia G and the NIOD Eye Treatment Oil. I love my Dr. Dennis Gross Retinol and Ferulic Eye Gel but saw a review on the NIOD and then read the site reviews. Several people noted that they had switched from the Dr. Dennis to the NIOD because of dryness under the eyes from the retinol in the DDG product. I am going to give the NIOD a try as my under eyes are very dry. Has anyone else used the NIOD and if so, what did you think?
Lastly, I ordered on-line the LaLash eye lash serum. I have used Rapid Lash and it worked for awhile and then just seemed to stop. I picked up Woo Lash and have used that now for about 5 months and not getting great results with that so after watching a PixiWoo video on lashes and they recommended LaLash so thought I would try it. It is not the cheapest product so hoping it works. If I don’t have luck with this then I am going to splurge on lash extensions for my trip to Europe.
Weekend plans: Helping my ex-husband finish packing for his move to Georgia which is happening in the first week of April.
Favorite childhood movie: This is probably going to sound crazy but I saw a lot of movies when I was little as my parents took us to the drive-in assuming us kids would fall asleep and they were correct about my brother and sister but I was a night owl so I would see some movies that maybe a 3 or 4 year old shouldn’t see. I saw Butterfield 8, Sunday Bloody Sunday and many others. My favorite was one that turned out to be not particularly adult and had been released many years before but was reshown for some reason. Anyway, Jane Eyre was my favorite. The version with Orson Wells and Joan Fontaine. I have never been a cartoon movie fan so my favorite would never have been a children’s movie.

We watched a lot of movies as children too, I remember them taking us to the local movie houses to see Bambi, Mary Poppins etc.
Yes, we had a wonderful time. It is just nice to go to a restaurant that you don’t have the menu memorized and wear something nicer than jeans and T-shirts which is my usual daily wear around the house. There are so many things that we can see and do that don’t exist in my daily life and are not things I want around all of the time but for a change of pace it is great. The pretty lights, gift shops, restaurants, movies, plays and live music, just to name a few. The MAC store didn’t have the Padma Lakshmi collection in store and Sephora was out of most of the products that I wanted to see. They only had one of the Pat MacGrath mini eye shadow palettes and it wasn’t the one I was interested in. The Nordstrom’s stopped carrying several brands in store that I usually buy from so will have to go back to shopping for those on-line. But, we had a great time. I just realized I forgot to add my on-line MAC purchases to my haul this week. That is what happens when you buy too much!
It’s always great to visit a different place and see all the new/familiar shops. What a shame that Sephora lacked the products you wanted to see and the MAC store was similarly disappointing. I think it’s often better to see things yourself to check out the shades, colours and pigmentation.

Oh I know, kjh. Our exchange was Gypsy. I can’t remember what the abbreviation was but you could talk into the receiver and tell the operator “Gypsy” and the four digit number. I can also remember before I was four and we still lived in Montana we had a party line. Everyone on the same county road was on the same party line. So much has changed!
What I remember most from Butterfield 8 was just how gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor was. At my age she was like a fairy princess with her beautiful dark hair. I am sure my parents were happy that that was all I remembered!
I know I must have told the anecdote about how I ran into/helped out Elizabeth Taylor, when I was in grad school at UVA. When that unknown woman removed her sunnies and Hermès scarf, I was totally stunned! Incredible everything…especially the weight, lol!

I do…we were talking about this very thing a week or so back and everyone I know and my husband and his sibs…we all remember our named exchanges. In Toronto, the first one I remember was Lennox and then it was changed to Russell. After that, it all became numbers. Mind you, how many young people today know what a slide rule is? (and I’m not talking purely about the lyrics in “What a Wonderful World it Would Be”).
I do…our local area was CE and I can remember people would say their number as cedar-E then the 5 digit number.
Oops, I forgot my MAC on-line purchases. The MAC counter in Spokane didn’t have the Padma Lakshmi collection in store so I went ahead and placed an on-line order. I picked up both eye shadow palettes, 70’s Sunset and Desert Dusk and two of the lipsticks, Sunset Rose and Apricot Gold. I just received them this morning in the mail so haven’t had a chance to play with them. Light blue eye shadows are not really my thing but something about the shade of blue in the Desert Dusk palette was calling my name. I will have to see if I like it in application. The packaging is really pretty.
Laughing at the drive-in, because the same here. At way too young an age I saw Dirty Harry and Deathwish movies, Westworld, The R version of Saturday Night Fever, Valley of the Dolls, and God knows what else. lol
Deborah, I really want to try that Niod eye product but I have TWO eye products to use up first. Also, something has really gone terribly wrong with my eyelashes, which have always been long and full. (I know what’s wrong—menopause.) I am seriously at the point where I feel like I have to take a month off mascara. I am wondering if there’s any alternative.
Yes, I think menopause is at the root of most of our aging changes. I went through a chemically induced menopause (chemotherapy) when I was 45 and was amazed at how many things changed. I felt like my brain was encased in cotton wool and even the easiest thought processes seemed to take me forever. Luckily that finally resolved after about 18 months but I was convinced I was having symptoms of early dementia.
As for the eye lashes. As I mentioned I had really good success with the Rapid Lash and you use to be able to pick it up at Costco 2 tubes for $29.99. Sadly they stopped carrying it and I didn’t realize that they carry it at Ulta so I stopped using it for about 3 months and once you stop using it there is an immediate regression and your lashes look sparser than ever.
I have heard that castor oil will help them to grow and strengthen so I might give that a try if the LaLash doesn’t work or if I decide the effect doesn’t warrant the outrageous cost. There are several videos about it on YT and the say to use organic castor oil. I have no experience with it so can’t say if it would help or not but worth a try. They use a clean spoolie and apply at bedtime. Might be worth a try!

Latisse works like mad. How do I know? It’s the base chemical compound in one of my eye drops that keep me from going blind in my right eye. Here’s the thing…I only use that med in the R eye. After a few months, I started to look like a crazy person. R eye with lashes so crazy long and full they would nearly get tangled. L eye looked like a sad step sister. I ended up using mascara on the L with nothing on the R. It eventually got hard to balance.
The doc agreed that the difference was noticeable, but we were changing meds anyway. I don’t use that med anymore and two years later the R lashes are still longer and fuller than the L (but I can balance with mascara).
I can tell you with certainty that Latisse works. And at least for me, the results have lasted years.
LindaP, I thought about trying Latisse but was concerned about the reports of changes in iris color and darkening of the skin above the lash line. Did you notice any changes?
Changes in iris color? Never heard of that one. I would bet that’s rare. I got to Mass Eye & Ear, and they go over side effects to the nth. The only ones I remembers are dryness and redness.
I had no change in eye or skin color. Can’t vouch for what would happen to anyone else, but that’s my reality after using the product for over a year. Maybe other topicals might be more comfortable for you.
I will say this… Ever since I started using Monsieur Big (I think you use it too?) I started having the same thoughts about my lashes. Thing is, after close scrutiny :), the mascara has done nothing nefarious to my lashes. I swear, that mascara is so amazing that it makes my bare face look like I’ve lost something! I think my reaction is the result of the efficacy of the product. I didn’t that mascara at first, but then I realized I was nutz! 🙂 Then again, it makes me thing my lashes disappeared! Amazing mascara.

Hi Deborah, I have been using NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate for a few months now and I like it. I have hooded eyes as well as dark circles and wrinkles under my eyes and it has helped each area and probably moreso than using The Ordinary Matrixyl around the eye area. I am not using as much under eye corrector and concealer though wonder if I have reached the maximum effect from this product. I’m about add Hylamide SubQ Anti Age Eye Serum once/day, replacing one of the two NIOD applications above. I’ll try this combo for at least 3 months to gauge effectiveness. I hope the NIOD product works for you!!
Thank you for the feedback, Tracy. I have had good response to the Dr. Dennis Gross product and really noticed a negative effect when I stopped using it for about 2 months when I was on a trip and couldn’t get it. I started right back on it when I got home and it worked just fine. I think I am feeling the way that you described about the NIOD, that maybe I am getting the most I can expect from the Dr. Dennis Gross product. I am nervous about stopping it though so will probably do what you are planning by eliminating one of the applications and adding the NIOD product at bedtime. I have noticed a real effect in decreasing my lines and wrinkles but the skin around my eyes is definitely getting drier which doesn’t look great. I am finishing up a tube of Tarte Shape Tape and then may look for another concealer. I don’t really want to continue supporting Tarte. I use the Shape Tape pretty sparingly but I do have to conceal as I have deep blue under eye circles.
Let me know how adding the hydration works for you after your trial period. Sucks how long it takes to notice any changes from skin care!

Weekend Plans – nothing too exciting this weekend as the first round of the Grand Prix is on here in Melbourne and the males in my family are fixed on the couch watching it. Not a fan myself, so I will be doing all the basics.

Haul: Nars Wanted 2 and a bunch of bath products came today. Decided that I was not going to let Backtalk get me down, so used some colored liners and the Peripera rose tinted mascara..it’s not pink, soft black base, with a dark rose tint. Think it’s Calle Black Dry Roses, but my self-made labels did not stick, and Hangul/Hanyul? Not so much. Got 3 of them and one is a fairly good dupe for the OG Sephora Marsala masc. I don’t return, if I consider the purchase my fault, so dammit, made it work! Prob going to get the Dose mauve palette, which is closer to what I thought Backtalk should/ would be, in the 21 days. W/e: thank god the fourth nor’easter was a flop-o-genesis. It was 44 today, and Patticake took her first real, full walk!!! She looks a bit neuro, but so proud of her. Collar, despite disc surgery, as she destroyed that (effin straight jacket!) halter. Good endurance. So, out with them, weather permitting. Otherwise, SSDW. Childhood film? I just remember being traumatized by Old Yeller. What were my parents thinking? Knew better than to read/see Where the Red Fern Grows. On a happier note, it certainly was Lady and the Tramp. Notice a dog theme here?
So pleased to hear that Patticake is really on her road to recovery by taking a walk. She will feel much better too for getting some exercise and smelling all those different scents. Great news.
Lol Old Yeller did break your heart! And Lassie always in danger used to give us kids a scare every Sunday but at least she made it out alive. Watching these type films I tend to empathize way too much with animal suffering . Go Patticake!!

Our stupidly hot summer is finally over and we have rain and chilly temperatures all weekend, so as bizarre as it sounds, I’m excited to do some comfort cooking and put my slippers on 😉
Fave childhood movie: It’s not exactly a kids movie, but I watched Aliens when I was about 9 and I wanted to BE Ellen Ripley when I grew up. She could drive a loader! She could drive a tank! She could fly a spaceship! She could fight aliens! She told men what to do! She had a flame thrower! And grenades! She was f#^%!*& boss. And I still think that 30 years later.
Yay to the end of summer! We have finally had some rain here in Melbourne today. The north east coast of Aus has had bucket loads, but not us and it has been so, so dry and dusty.
I think we are finally getting some autumn like weather for the next week or two.
Some of the autumn clothes are coming out in the shops too and I have just bought myself a couple of tops.
I am definitely an autumn/winter person.
Amen, Genevieve! It was our hottest summer on record here in NZ but I know that’s nothing compared to typical Aussie temperatures! Melbourne isn’t too bad, I loved it there (more than Sydney, LOL) but I wanted to die the last time I was in Brisbane…

Sydney and Brisbane always have really high humidity and we’re getting like that too. So far we’ve only had a couple of 40+ days this year.

You won’t be disappointed, Tammy. I have hooded eyes and achieve noticable definition and visibility of the shades on my eyelids…and I’m a novice at applying eyeshadow. Though my brush collection is largely Wayne Goss, MAC, and Bobbi Brown and MAC, the brushes from Sonia G. are like nothing I own.

Haul: 2 Sonia G brushes: Worker 2 and Builder 2. Did a quick eyelook today using creams and powder shadows and I’m smitten with these brushes. Placement can be very precise and intensity can be built up, even with cream shadows. At first glance, I was a little worried about Builder 2 as the brush handle is wider and heavier towards the end. My small hands want to grasp it like a pencil where the ferrule and handle meet. My fingers relaxed as I used it though I hold it higher on the brush than I do with the Worker 2. (I tend to hold near the middle of the handle.) Am looking forward to more experimenting. Will definitely be ordering more Sonia G eye brushes.
Weekend Plans: Attend Saturday’s March For Our Lives event, then Spring cleaning/decluttering.
Favourite movie as a child: Star Wars!
Haul: Kabuki Magic MAC eyepaints. Gosh, Cracked Emerald is exactly what I wanted it to be: opaque. Win and Overnight Sensation are beautiful colors but sheer out too easily so far (need to find a way to make them opaque). Win, however, does FANTASTIC things for CP Etiquette and Luckfully.
Weekend plans: write some fiction. Work on refinishing some furniture.
Favorite childhood movie: Miracle of the White Stallions, triggering in me a lifelong love of and respect for classical dressage. (The real thing, not rollkur torture.)
