- Haul: Some pieces from Chanel fall, Kat Von D Shade + Light Cream Contour Palette
- Weekend plans: I’m still in catch up mode for the blog! We need to pick up some items from the grocery store, so we’ll probably do that this morning, actually…

Haul: points perks of Givenchy lipstick and Anastasia clear brow gel, a new tube of Biotherm Aquathermal shower gel (I’ve used it for years – it is SO refreshing after a workout or just in the hot, muggy days of summer), Shiseido Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother Serum, the new Benefit Brightening Boing concealer (loving it) and Marc Jacobs Edgitorial palette, which I am really not sure I’ll be keeping. They had testers of 4 of the palettes but, sadly, not this one and so I bought it “unswatched”. I’ll give it another few days to try it out but I’m not as excited about it as I should be.
Weekend plans: son is leaving for Montreal for a week so getting him to the train, going to the gym and, tomorrow evening, dinner with a bunch of friends who’ve been friends since our uni days (a loooong time ago). We get together a couple of times a year but we’ve all become closer recently since we all travelled to India together.
Last movie: at the movie theatre? I honestly cannot even remember, though I do recall going to the movies a while back to see something….(pretty sad, hunh? It can’t have been all that great, I guess).
Oh – and regarding weekend plans, I’m going for a pedicure this afternoon – HOW could I forget that???
Oh Mellan, hope you feel better and no problems coming back!
*Ulta -20% off coupon + 5x Points – NARS Velvet Lip Glide set –OMG, love the formula!! These are tiny but a great way to try out different colors, L’Oreal Infallible Metallic Shadow Paints in Rose Chrome and Violet Luster ( gives a HE glowy luminous finish, love!), WNW MegaGlo Highlighter in Botanic Dreams ( swatches very nicely), Cover FX Drops in Sunlight (to mix with foundation), Note Cosmetics purple shadow kit ( only swatched on my arms, but 2 of the 6 shadows were weak, and the purples/mauves are much more muted than the promo pics, hoping they don’t go muddy on me), Clarisonic Foundation Brush, Tweezerman Tweezers, L’Oreal Voluminous Paradise Mascara
*Melt Cosmetics — Hot Box Collection Eyeliners in Bloodshot (OMG, love!!! Bright true red, SO unique! might have to get a backup), 818 (reddish brown with slight sparkle, pretty), and RX Queen ( silvery gray, great for smoky eye) -these are all bulletproof on my oily lids, love!!
*Dose of Colors Magic Moment cream shadow/glitter duo – it’s a pretty rose gold base with with sparkles in rose gold/hot pink, but unfortunately, this isn’t holding up well on my super oily lids. I’ve tried different primers, foundations, application methods, will probably be returning. Really sad as this is one of the few “rose” gold shades that really does have a pretty pink tone to it.
*Sephora – Sephora blotting papers, Sephora waterproof eye makeup remover -to redeem rewards for UD Liquid Vice Lipstick in Amulet (love the color, but the formula is super drying on me, need lip balm), Cover FX Drops in Moonlight, Tatcha Water Cream, Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara, ABH Brow Gel
*Weekend – nd get haircut, run errands, chores
*The Girl on the Train
I love my Cover FX Drops, I use mine to darken my foundation in the summer. I will have to check out the Melt Cosmetics eyeliners!
Oh if you like red eyeliners, check out Melt Bloodshot! I’ve never seen an eyeliner that’s such a beautiful, bright true red! Most “red” eyeliners are muted reddish browns but this is really red, it’s well named. If I pair Bloodshot with a shadow close to my lid color (NC 15-20), the red will pop, but if I use medium or darker shadows, it will blend with the color of the shadows, so you get interesting shades of red, so it’s a lot more wearable and versatile than you would think. Might have to get a couple of backups, it’s definitely competing with my beloved Chanel Eros!
You’ve sold me, I’m getting Bloodshot!
Yay!! Hope you enjoy Tammy!
The Dose of Color primer in the duos seems super greasy – it doesn’t surprise that it is not holding on your lids at all!
The cream base doesn’t seem to quite set and lock down, even after I pack powder shadow on top. It fares much worse on the hooded, oilier lid but it’s not lasting that well on the other lid either : (
Haul – Nothing, but I’m thinking about what to get at Ulta after I get paid. ABH Subculture should be in the store by then, but with all the controversy and mixed reviews, I’d rather swatch it in person before purchasing.
Weekend plans – Cleaning house, trying not to stress over next week. (I’m not going to go into why right now, but it’s going to be a rough one…all good vibes are appreciated.)
Last movie I watched – Wonder Woman in the theater, either Moana or The Secret Life of Pets at home (my daughter’s perpetual Netflix choices).
Hope your next week is better, Stephanie! xoxo
Sending good thoughts for your week ahead, Stephanie.
Sending good vibes!
Haul: Lime Crime was on Hautelook so I picked up a few velvetines to try. I got the subculture palette recently and I’m still playing with that. I actually don’t think I’ve bought much makeup lately!
Weekend plans: Probably just hanging with the family. Haven’t seen much of them since the past month was so busy.
What was the last movie you watched?: Freddy VS Jason!!!
HAHAHAHA I love that movie!!!!!!!
Haul: picked up the Amorepacific skincare set that Nordstrom had in their anniversary sale…also picked up the Lipstick Queen Frog Prince cream blush/lipstick set
Weekend Plans: cleaning, spending time with family, resting 😀
What was the last movie you watched?: I think it was Baby Driver…that was a dang good movie, highly recommend it to everyone!
Baby Driver was SO good!
I am excited to see Baby Driver. Is it a movie that needs to be seen in the theater or will I still enjoy it just as much if I wait until it’s available on DVD?
I would definitely tell you to see it in the theater – but I am biased toward seeing movies that way and almost never watch any at home!
Hope Mellan’s next results come back perfect!
Haul:
Dermstore (25% off): Vichy LiftActiv (Supreme Night, Eyes, Serum 10 Eyes & Lashes, Supreme, Serum 10 Supreme) – Thanks Katherine for pointing out the brand was on Dermstore bc I would have missed out! I’m still waiting to see what happened with this order. Dermstore sent a shipping notice 2 days ago but the tracking they sent is invalid. I tried calling and held for 40 minutes but nobody picked up. I’ve sent messages but they didn’t respond.
Laura Mercier (10% off): Flawless Fusion Foundation (1N2 Vanille). Translucent Setting Powder Travel Size, GWP – Moonlight Caviar Stick and Matte Radiance Baked Powder Highlight 01 Deluxe Samples
Melt Cosmetics: Eyeliner (Bloodshot, Rx Queen) – Hot Box Collection (Thanks Katherine!)
Pur (20% off): My Little Pony: The Movie Collection Eyeshadow Palette and The Movie Magic of Friendship 3 Piece All in One Glow Stick Kit – hasn’t shipped yet
Sephora: Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish (was sold out on the brand sight and this is my HG!), Alterna Haircare Bamboo Volume 48-Hour Sustainable Volume Spray (for my fine hair I think this works slightly better than the mousse), Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara Deluxe Sample, Cover Fx Custom Enhancer Drops (Moonlight) – Reward Points
Sephora: KVD Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick (Televator, Razzle, Dazzle, Rocker, Wizard). Ok, so I left Televator on here BUT Sephora cancelled it and I’m angry! I placed 2 orders with Sephora for the KVD Glimmers. My first order, placed well before noon EST, had 4 lippies (the ones I wanted most). Roughly 4 hours later, I had FOMO and went back and ordered Wizard. So yesterday early morning, Wizard shipped. By the afternoon when my 1st order hadn’t shipped, I contacted Sephora to find out why the orders weren’t shipping in the order they were placed and was promised my 1st order would ship that day. Well at about midnight last night, Sephora sent me an email cancelling part of my 1st order! They cancelled Televator which was, of course, the one I wanted most of my entire order! So, I’ll have Wizard this afternoon for swatching and then the other 3 on Monday. Really disappointed in the service from Sephora; especially since I’m Rouge (which apparently means nothing!)
Tarte (Applied $50 site tokens/rewards so total was $6!): Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick (3, I don’t like this as an eye primer but it works brilliantly as an under eye color corrector! Doesn’t emphasize fine lines and lasts all day), Sex Kitten Liquid Liner
Ulta: Dose of Colors Eyedeal Crayon (Mint), Hempz Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Crème Body Wash, nail files
Walgreens (BOGO ½): L’Oreal Paris Infallible Paints Eyeshadow Metallics (Rose Chrome, Violet Luster, Brass Knuckles, Caged)
Weekend plans: I have a salon appointment tomorrow for my hair and a mani/pedi. Otherwise, not sure. Might go back to the farm market.
What was the last movie you watched? Oh my gosh I rarely watch movies. I honestly can’t remember offhand.
Poor baby Mellan 🙁 Our sick cat (pancreas infection) just finished his prescription food so I need to take him in for another round of testing. Hopefully he won’t need medication. Also our neighbors got a new puppy (corgi I think?) and every time they have him out on the common lawn, which is 5-6 times per day, the cats run to the patio door and watch him 🙂
Haul: From the Ulta sale – Wet N Wild Royal Calyx megaglo highlighter, NYX Go Rogue metallic cream lipstick, Pacifica Cuban Mango lip balm, Physician’s Formula super cc cream in light, Physician’s Formula cushion corrector + primer duo in lavender/peach.
Weekend Plans: We’re going to Great Taste of the Midwest tomorrow, which is a huuuuuge craft beer festival in Madison WI. The local homebrewer’s association got a bunch of tickets and booked a charter bus so we’re going with them. Today we’re doing stuff to get more settled in here – like installing some better storage in the guest bedroom closet and hanging some art.
We also have to go back to the old place Sunday to check things out. The buyers backed out of the deal at llllliiiiterally the last second, but had already dropped off a storage pod with all their stuff which sat on our property with no permit for TEN DAYS (we didn’t know it was there until it had been there a week and had 2 citations, we hired a lawn service so we hadn’t been back, we didn’t find out until our realtor went to put a new lockbox on so we could start showings again). According to our neighbor the pod messed up the driveway. We might have to sue them because those citations are $250 fines each, and we might have to pay to get the driveway fixed if the pod damaged it as badly as the neighbor says.
ANYWAYS what was the last movie you watched: This really terrible action movie called Extraction. We saw it on netflix and it had Bruce Willis so it’s probably good right? WRONG, lol.
Ok, so stay away from Madison tomorrow lol #trafficgonnabebad
OMG, Alice; what horrible people to have pulled a whammy like this on you! Bad enough they renaged at the last possible second, but that whole POD disaster IS lawsuit worthy. I’m serious. Sorry you had to go through that ordeal.
Thanks Nancy. Luckily there is not actually any damage to the driveway, idk it must have just left dirt and our neighbor thought it was damage. Also our lawyer has been talking to the village to try and get them to drop the citations since it wasn’t our pod and was put there without our permission, fingers crossed.
Aww, poor kitty! I hope he doesn’t need medication — fingers crossed for you two!
What an ordeal having your buyers drop out at the last minute AND having them cause problems for you in the long run 🙁
Oh no, sorry to hear about what happened to your old house, sounds like a nightmare 🙁
Haul: UD Chill Setting Spray, eye primer, a new eyelash curler, some wet n wild brushes and their concealer and gel lip balms. (I feel like I am forgetting something…)
Weekend plans: Going to the drive-in tonight! Tomorrow I am going to a party at my friends house. And Sunday trying to not pass out from the lack of sleep I imagine I will be experiencing.
What was the last movie you watched?: I think Parent Trap actually. The Lindsay Lohan one.
Glad to hear Mellan is back in the normal range now. I hope he’ll stay that way when you get him tested again.
Haul: I got sucked into Ulta’s flash sale lol
I did need some new RT sponges and also picked up a new ELF eye brow pencil, EVA NYC shampoo and conditioner
Weekend plans: definitely catching up on some much needed sleep, getting ready to pack, maybe go to the mall
What was the last movie you watched?: in theaters: Atomic Blond, at home: usually some random movie on Prime lol
Haul: From Sephora
Kat Von D Smoke & Mirrors Grayscale Mini Lip Everlasting Liquid Lip Duo
URBAN DECAY VICE LIQUID LIPSTICK IN AMULET 100 point sample
Kat Von D Sinner deluxe sample – 4.5 mL
I was technically supposed to be on a no-buy for IMATS but Woolf & Dagger were on my list for it but I like to get minis where I can on shades I don’t use very often. 😉
Weekend plans: Work on Merida details and resumes.
What was the last movie you watched?: Atomic Blonde
Haul: Marc Jacobs Free Spirit palette from 2015 (MJB still has it on their website!), MJ lip gel in Showstopper (it didn’t come in the red casing and I don’t like the color on me in person, le sad), two Julie Hewett lipsticks (where have these been all my life??? OMG how did I not know about these sooner), two of the Pat McGrath lippies (Obsessed and Full Panic), Lipstick Queen Mornin Sunshine, John Varvatos for Men (for my Man), some more of the My Beauty Diary sheet masks (babes, if you want to get into sheet masking for the money and for the quality these are the best, I’ve been using them for a few years), and a maternity body pillow to keep me from rolling over and to keep me elevated after surgery. Whew. Yeah I spent way more than I realized this week. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Weekend plans: Getting everything ready for my surgery on Monday (it’s elective)
What was the last movie you watched?: John Wick 2 (liked the first one better, but it always makes me happy to see Keanu making movies…and I heard we are actually going to be getting a third movie with Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq. soon!).
I hope the surgery goes well for you Nicole – fingers crossed.
Best wishes on your recovery, Nicole!
Thank you ladies! I’m hoping for an awesome outcome. 😉
Haul: ABH Subculture Palette. I’m finding those reviews to be highly overblown which is a shame. It’s a decent palette. Very pigment, blendable, shadows. Perfect for the fall. I’d say the youtubers got this palette WRONG!!
Weekend plans: Town festival is here. Probably go out for food and free music!
Last Movie : Never Been Kissed. Drew Barrymore is my idol lol
As for in theaters, Wonder Woman was the last movie I saw. Had to bc my daughter talked about for at least a year prior lol. It was actually the first superhero movie I enjoyed in a long time!
Happy to hear that you’re loving your palette, Erica!
I am and on maybe my fourth look. I’m loving it. It hasn’t replaced my love of the MR but I do love it. Poor quality, nope. Sorry not seeing it. More challenging, maybe but incredibly pigmented, darker shades always take restraint and a light hand. There’s a learning curve for sure. I’m no makeup artist but I have created looks I love and I find this palette easier to work with than say the HUDA Rose Gold palette. I still haven’t created a look I love with that one!
Haul: Nothing! I’m doing a really good job not buying things. I might place an order with Sephora while they have the 4X points though, since I am almost out of my FAB moisturizer, and maybe I’ll treat myself to that Bite Beauty liquid lipstick in Infuse.
Weekend plans: About to drive down to Portland for a belly dance festival! I’ll be taking workshops, shopping, and performing. It’s going to be awesome.
Last movie: I think it was watching Doctor Strange on Netflix.
That sounds like an awesome weekend AJ! Do you have a specific style you practice? Speaking of, I was just watching old vids of Rachel Brice earlier today, love the tribal style.
Funny you should mention Rachel Brice, she’s one of the people I took a workshop from this weekend 🙂 I’ve also done 3 levels of her “8 Elements” training! I do a fusion style of belly dance. My performance this weekend was to a heavy metal cover of a classic Egyptian song.
Glad you caught the liver issue so quickly for Mellan! When Maggie had her liver issues, she relapsed after about 6 months and then with treatment gradually went back down to absolutely and completely normal. Our vet was incredibly relieved and surprised to see how quickly she normalized. ‘Neicey’ in for tests next week with her thyroid for 2nd check. I think she is too high at this point. OMG. But it’s a good feeling to see her back to her super duper energetic very vocal hound dog self. Maybe an agility course…
Haul: Mac Basic Bitch palette, Fix+, MAC Mixing Medium Lash (hopeful replacement for Surratt expressionist brow gel which I cannot find in stock anywhere.
Bite liquid lip in Guava, Nars matte pencil in Never Say Never (beautiful colour!), Stellar Stardust lip powder palette.
Elizabeth and James Bourbon dry shampoo
Weekend plans: Keep on Farming: it has been a brutal year on so many levels. Come to the conclusion farmers are a masochistic bunch.. including this one.
Last Movie Watched: It’s been awhile.. Days of Heaven (1978), Terrence Malick’s masterpiece. I have the criterion collection DVD and find it profoundly haunting. The cinematography is shot with such grace, so visually stunning and the agricultural theme appeals and echoes the rhythms of the characters.
Aww, so happy for Neicey that her energy level is back!! Mellan started eating his food funnily (almost like he’d spit it out and then eat it) and not drinking water — and sure enough, liver values were high; same odd behavior that started us on this journey. So, now I know that those are his symptoms (which aren’t even normal, loL).
It doesn’t sound weird at all. Maggie was similar and she loves to eat. The high enzymes make them feel nauseous – in people terms: a very bad hangover.
Don’t give mummy (and us) a scare, you big, beautiful guy! Haul: V neutral matte and Paris Nudes. Biggest haul: the U coupon code did not work and I took it as a sign. What do I really need? To replace the sofas. Mine is 41, and actually in better shape than the one 10 years younger. So, googled. It should be Mass tax free w/e, but the state won’t do it. But the furniture stores are! Most are charging no tax, and giving a discount equal to twice the tax. Even with the removal fee for two, saving 300$. Got a sunbrella sofa and loveseat. These aren’t sleepers, who cares? And I need them badly. So, it WAS a sign. The sofa was right in front of me when I entered, and the whole thing took about a half hour. Bye, rottie sofas! Prob not bothering w/Ulta. Coupons come pretty often, and the products aren’t going anywhere. I really want to see if they’ll provide another code, though. Plans: nothing different, except probably a dog day afternoon today with my two dachsies, a Shih tsu, and a poodle at a chihuahua ‘s house. Last movie: in the theatre, the ?disney nature documentary on animals from China. Now watching the miniseries on the Unabomber.
Sitting here laughing: I definitely take sh*t like that as a sign too.
Enjoy your new furniture! I bought new furniture this week too. Sometimes it’s nice to put the cosmetics on hold for a bit and attend to our homes.
Yay for new sofas!! Sounds like it was a breeze and now you can enjoy them!
Haul: Our first piece of furniture to go with our new flooring! https://instagram.com/p/BXp_mOQhG9u/
Weekend plans: Saturday morning is always gym for me, I’ve been doing one hour Saturday indoor cycling classes for nine years now. After gym I will do the grocery shopping, laundry, and try to prepare a meal before we go to my daughter’s house to celebrate my granddaughter Willow’s second birthday. While I’m gyming, shopping, and cooking my husband will be attempting to set up the play kitchen we bought Willow for her birthday.
Last movie we watched: We are CRAVING movie and television time so badly, it seems like every night we are working on things right up until bedtime! The last movie I remember watching was Moonlight
Your flooring looks absolutely beautiful Tammy! Love the colour choice.
Enjoy your grand daughter’s second birthday – she will so love the play kitchen. We got one for Olivia for her second birthday too and she plays with it all the time. They are very tricky to put up – my husband and eldest son spent quite a bit of time on it, but it was worth the look on her face when she saw it.
Haul: I ordered a couple of sale lipglosses from Sephora, but I hated them so much I sent them back. I also tried to redeem the Jack Black birthday gift, but it was canceled off my order 🙁 So I went into the store by my office and asked if they had it – nope, online only. They gave me the choice of Tarte or Caudalie and I said Tarte, only to get home and realize that they had put the Caudalie gift in my bag. LOL I give up. I did use some points for that adorable little CoverFX highlight dropper. I’m not even sure when I’ll use a liquid formula like that but it’s so darn cute I don’t even care.
Weekend plans: Haircut! It has been a looonnggg time so I am way overdue. Also catching up on work (boo) and trying to get some house things in order, as I’ll be out of town for the eclipse/ my birthday next weekend, and we are headed out on a longer vacation soon after that.
What was the last movie you watched?: We re-watched bits and pieces of The Big Short a few nights ago. I think before that my husband most recently talked me into watching The Prestige, which was… ok. I’m not a big movie person!
Ooh Julia let me know how the Cover FX sample goes. I try to make my sample perks “worth it.” I feel a bomb liquid highlighter could last me a good deal of time as opposed to a fragrance or mascara sample.
Poor guy! I sure hope and pray that your dear boy Mellan has smooth sailing with a full remission from his liver disease. For his sake, and yours.
Haul: Sephora last Friday night, I picked up only what I needed to replace, FAB Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer SPF 40 and a new Marc Jacobs Blaquer Highliner. Both HG items! *Almost* bought Hourglass GIRL Stylo in Activist, but kept thinking it reminded me of my MAC Cosmo for some reason, so I refrained.
Weekend plans: Heavy cleaning for our yearly inspection. Other than that, just my usual weekend routine, except no mani/pedi.
Last movie you watched: Gone With The Wind. At a friend’s home, having not seen it in at least 20 years. She put the DVD on while 3 of us were playing Sequence, so that was weird!
Nancy, if I remember correctly you have been trying to reign in the beauty purchases. Good job on only doing replacements this week!
Thank you, Tammy, I’m definitely trying! Successfully talked myself out of MAC Basic B*tch yesterday. Turned out, I actually *do* own dupes for my favorite shades in it! Also, temporarily talked myself out of Hourglass GIRL Stylo in Protector, because as soon as I put it on I knew I owned a super close one at home: MAC Sí, Sí Me.
Nancy, I have been put on a sudden and unexpected low buy. My youngest son (age 20), who swore he would never go to college, decided to go to school to become a paramedic. He decided on a Friday, and by the following Monday he was taking an 8-credit summer semester. He just wrapped that up and is already signed up for 13 credits in the fall, which I just made my first payment on two weeks ago. I am happy for him but it’s killing my wallet. I am hoping the cosmetic withdrawals will subside soon, as I’ve really been missing my favorite indulgence.
Tammy, I definitely understand how our adult children’s life events or unexpected change of their course can impact our pocketbook! Mine is likely a move across town to offer my support to my son who’s going through something major and life-altering. It is not something I’m thrilled about doing, as I really love the East Valley. But; I love him more. BTW; the shopping withdrawals are very REAL. Felt it the other night big-time!
Haul: Nothing yet! It’s been another rough week!
Weekend: I had a very big weekend planned. I might have to scale it back. Week’s been hard mentally and I just wrecked myself at Pilates last night. I was going to go out tonight for girls night, do all my usual shopping and chores plus a hike on saturday, and then brunch, farmers market, and window shopping on sunday. I’m not sure if I can do all that now, even just physically. I’ll probably still go out tonight but the makeup and clothes will be sparse and the shoes will be flats!
Last Movie: Was SpiderMan Homecoming. I also had my sis over to watch Dr. Strange cause she’d never seen it.
Sorry to hear that you’ve had another rough week, I hope they improve soon for you. Just do what you enjoy doing the most this weekend Erin.
Hope your next week is better, Erin!
Haul: NARS Blush in Blissful (the finish is heavenly), Jouer Skinny Dip Palette (just arrived; haven’t used yet), a couple back-ups of Sephora Tranquil, 3.4 oz. bottle of Calvin Klein Euphoria, value size bottle of Cinema Secrets Makeup Brush Cleaner, bhCosmetics Wild & Alluring Baked Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette.
Weekend plans: Nothing special
What was the last movie you watched? In a theater — Spider-Man: Homecoming; at home — The Number 23.
I am really looking forward to seeing Blissful. When NARS does a blush right, they really do it right. Today I am wearing Out There from the Unfiltered I Palette (not sure if this is available individually). I love this color so very much when I am just going for a natural look. I have several other NARS blushes that I love, this is just the one I am loving today!
Blissful is absolutely gorgeous.
Rachel, I love Sephora Tranquil and use it a lot as a contour on my pale skin. It works really well and is just the right shade for my undertone. Do you use it for contour also or as an e/s as intended?
I use it as a contour, too. 🙂
I’m happy for Mellan getting back to normal! My pup has been through some scary medical issues, too, so I know how difficult it is. My fingers are crossed for him.
Haul:
CND Stickey Nail Base Coat
Zoya Nail Polish in Kelly
NYX Liquid Suede Metallic Matte Lipstick in Biker Babe
NYX Nude Matte Eyeshadow in Contort (The MAC Rockin’ Rebel palette made me interested in trying greens and blues, so I’m doing a little inexpensive experimentation.)
Weekend plans:
Get together with friends, do chores, watch Twin Peaks (only a few more episode left)
What was the last movie you watched?
Well, honestly, it was most likely an embarrassingly awful LMN movie that was on in the background while I did stuff around the house last weekend.
Nice choice of the CND Super Sticky; it’s been my favorite base coat since HS and that was a loooooong time ago!
Haul-Shiseido Inkstroke liners in green, blue and purple, and the new curves liner brush, Clarins Blush Prodige in Golden Pink, MAC ED blush in Cheeky Bits, Shiseido Shimmering Cream eye colour in Sudachi/GR619 (nice soft green), MAC Split Fiber brush set (a real steal at $20 CDN for 234 and 235), MAC Wild Nectar metallic lipstick. I am going to order Chanel Road Movie from the fall collection tomorrow, and Rouge Allure Pirate, I think. Beautyboutique.ca is having a 20x points weeks so it’s a good time to rack up those points.
Weekend Plans-Saturday will be groceries, housework and all the other fun adult stuff but Sunday I plan to go kayaking with HD for the day.
Last Movie-Don’t watch many but maybe Finding Dory on demand at Christmas time (with adult son lol)
Haul: LIT glitters in Rhinestone Cowboy size 3, Vegas size 4, Black Magic Woman size 2, Champagne Wishes size 3, Northern Lights size 3, and Sunshine & Lollipops size 3. I resisted Givenchy 305 Rouge Égérie and Rouge Fetiche (so neon!) and NARS Le Lavandou and Cap-D’ail pencils though, so go me?
Weekend plans: Try to cook! I’ve been busy and eating out too much lately.
What was the last movie you watched?: The Founder, the biopic about Ray Kroc of McDonalds. Incredibly accurate with an incredible cast, though admittedly dry. I had no idea Nick Offerman was such a great actor! He was good on Parks and Rec and all, but dang. Would recommend.
Oh, Blue, I’ve been mulling over a LIT haul for almost a year now and I decided that if nothing super spectacular comes up this month, I might have to pick up a couple of those lovely glitters. Have you purchased and use them before? If so, what are your thoughts?
Honestly, they blow every other glitter out of the water. LIT advertises them as being eye safe, which I really appreciate because we all know that’s the first place most people want to put glitter. Personally, I have gotten a few flecks in my eye without noticeable issue. As Christine has mentioned in other threads, their glitter base is really special too. You just dip the brush in the clear base, then into the glitter, and paint it on. It wears well, and washes right off. Really good stuff.
Then there are the colors. I’ve never seen wider selection or more nuanced options. They’re also extra glittery, not flat or dull if you’ve ever had that issue. Glittergasm is a really special fuchsia color because it has these brilliant multicolored flecks mixed in. Caviar Dreams is also amazing, because it has variations in both size and color. All their holographic colors shine beautifully.
If you’re thinking about it and you think you’d get use out of glitter, I highly recommend them. They do a bunch of freebies (they always offer one color full sized with purchase but if you time it right you can get two) and usually have a 20% off code available on their instagram too. I promise they aren’t paying me. Haha. I think their stuff is impeccable.
Blue, Do you have a recommendation for a brush you like to use for glitter application? I have some very expensive brushes and was going to pick up a less costly brush because of the glitter adhesive.
Also, is there a size you like best? Was going to get my glitters in #2, but saw many recommend #3.
Sorry for the delayed reply!
I just use the cheap brushes that come in the glitter kits. You’re right that they definitely don’t need an expensive brush to paint on with the adhesive. A cheap lip or concealer brush, or skinny eyeliner brush for thin application, would also be perfect.
As far as size goes, I would say 3 is a more “regular” glitter size that is big enough to let the more varied colors (either holographic or a mix of shades) pop. 2 is small enough that it’s probably subtle enough to pass off as high shimmer rather than GLITTER if you’re looking for that, but some of the nuance is harder to see or even becomes muted in the more complex colors. I also have a few size 4, which is distinctly big particles. Their instagram has a lot of beautiful moving swatches, including several that compare different sizes of the same color. 🙂
I wanted to correct my earlier post too. I meant Champagne Wishes, not Caviar Dreams. OMG it’s so pretty.
Oooh, I’m going to pick up a Lit to try next time!
Let us know what colors you end up getting! It’s so good! 😀
Haul – Burberry liquid lip velvet in Fawn Rose. Made me look like I needed CPR – back it went. Formula seemed really nice, but none of the other colors really appeal to me. Just ordered from Ulta a new powder foundation (IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation Illuminating – has anyone tried this? Thoughts?), NYX Liquid Suede Metallic Matte liquid lip in Modern Maven, and WnW Megaglo Highlighter in Botanic Dream.
Weekend plans – I’m with my husband and 2 boys, mountain biking around Sun Valley, Idaho. Last quick vacation before the older one starts kindergarten.
Movie – Girls Trip. Funny, SUPER blue though!
Ha ha, I sent Fawn Rose back too, horrible color for me!
So sad that Fawn Rose did not work well for you! 🙁
That was what I thought of that and the cava lipstick from bite!
I actually ended up keeping both, and pair them with fairer foundations (half a shade lighter) and cooler eyeshades. And they work!
I hope Mellan labs stay normal. Sending good wishes his way!
Haul: Pat McGrath Colour Blitz matte lipstick trio. I’ve only used one the fuchsia one and I like the formula and color. Sephora spray blush in Tangerine dreams. Doesn’t show up very well and after an hour disappeared so I’ll probably return it if I can’t make it work.
Weekend Plans: Not much since my daughters recuperating from foot surgery and having complications. She can’t get around well so I’ll chill around the house and help her out. Maybe some decluttering and figuring which of the black suede booties I brought during Nordstrom sale that I’m going to keep or return .
What was the last movie you watched?: Beauty and the Beast and The Zoo Keepers Wife. I enjoyed both of them.
I hope your daughter is getting better – not much fun for her (or you) if she cannot walk.
I hope your daughter feels better soon, Denise! She is lucky to have you there to help 🙂
Thanks you ladies.
Mellan — I just lurve you. Feel better, buddy.
Haul:
Still feeling like I don’t need anything new, so I am in replacement mode. Used up MJ Highliners in Black and Irony so those are on order. I’m actually excited for a few of the 100 point samples coming with this order from Sephora — gloss, lipstick, mascara, and a Cover FX Enhancer Drops. Will report back on anything that stands out.
Weekend:
Not much. I have a huge bi-annual work event in Rochester, NY in a couple of weeks. The good thing is the company trucks a lot of equipment to the venues (hotel and Kodak Theater), which means the staff and pack early and send suitcases. Since this is a week with morning of serious biz clothes and many nights decked, I’m packing this weekend so I can send my stuff.
Movies:
Saw the last Star Wars, whatever that was. Before that though, I saw the first Lord of the Rings with my kids which was 13 years before. I never go to the movies.
Haul: ABH Subculture (after watching and reading a bunch of reviews, I think it might actually work for me based on how I like to apply my eyeshadow but we’ll see) and Zoya Pixie Dust nail polish in Dahlia and Naked Manicure in Buff.
Weekend plans: I’m planning on chilling out! For once, I don’t have a paper due on Tuesday.
What was the last movie you watched?: The Matrix! They just put it up on Netflix.

Last movie I saw was “Star War Force Awakens”.
Wow, a road trip beauty haul. I had fun reading about your purchases and the locations where you made them.
Hi Tammy,
I saw your floor on Instagram today and must say that it is really beautiful. How are the kitchen cabinets coming? Is there an end in site? I have been giving some thought to painting mine but since I will have all winter pretty much in the house I thought it might be a good winter project, LOL. I am glad that you enjoyed my haul. When I was putting everything down I sort of reminded myself of Michelle but I don’t have a reason for buying so much, no blog or YT channel so my purchases are pure retail therapy. I saw that you had your dental work done. Hope you are feeling better.
Thank you, Deborah, I am really taken with our new flooring. It was actually the flooring that caused this whole remodel. I was just going to put a new floor in the kitchen but when I saw Mannington’s Adura Max luxury vinyl planking in Lakeview Rapid, I HAD TO HAVE IT. And once I knew I was going to get the most beautiful flooring I had ever laid eyes on, I went a little crazy and decided to remodel the whole kitchen, which led to us deciding to just redo the whole middle level of our tri-level ranch home.
So we just finished painting the cabinets last weekend. That was a crazy hard job!!! We have 40 cabinet fronts that we cleaned, sanded, primed and painted. The wood was super dark, so we ended up washing, sanding, washing and sanding again, putting on three coats of primer, and then topping with two coats of cabinet paint. We took our time on the painting and they are really lovely. My husband is going to try to re-hang all the doors himself, which is likely to take 3-4 weeks, as we both work long hours and have a very full schedule even when we’re not at work. Once he gets the doors and fronts back on, we will choose a counter and have it installed.
With the remainder of the middle level, we are primarily having to address the drastic color change. We had dark emerald carpeting with warm taupe walls and dark wood base board, and now we have white-grey planking with with white base board. Almost everything has to be changed! We are buying a new dining room set, dining room chandelier, ceiling fan, etc. We are going to have to change up the decor, such as artwork and clocks on walls, couch cushions, and rugs. We need to paint dining room and living room, but we will probably wait until next spring.
Yes, my abscesses are resolved! (Thank goodness, either the abscesses needed to go or I was going to have to quit my job.) One tooth got a root canal and crown, and when the abscess was raging with no remittance after three weeks of antibiotics, one trip to the ER, and two emergency trips to the endodontist, they finally decided to pull it. (And of course, I got a dry socket infection after they pulled it, because everything about this whole dental situation just had to be dramatic.) Now I get to rest until November, when they will assess me for an implant for the tooth I lost.
Haha, I was thinking of Michelle when I read your post too! Nobody but Michelle buys that much in one week, lol. You have new EVERYTHING!
Oh my Deborah! Are there any items left in the shops? The MUA must have loved you!
I just love L’Occitane products myself and always buy some every year to keep my supply up. They are so beautiful. I’d like to hear how those Laura Geller eyeshadow palettes are too.
I am so glad that you had a wonderful trip – you really deserve it.
Hello Genevieve, I did have a lovely time and left plenty in the shops for everyone!! I didn’t go into my non-beauty purchases but made a dent in several home stores to help my daughter with furnishing her first apartment out of university. This trip was sort of a graduation present after finishing her Bachelors Degree.
I have barely tried the Laura Geller shadow palettes and mostly the Dowtown Cool palette. So far, I really like it. The shadows are buttery and seem to blend effortlessly. I have only used a couple of the shades so will give you an update after I have tried a few more.
I hadn’t used much L’Occitane before but have been pleasantly surprised by all of the products that I picked up. In particular I am loving the shower gels and the Reine Blanche mist, moisturizer and eye cream. There isn’t a store anywhere near where I live or I would try out more products. I am sure I will be returning to Seattle sometime soon and can look there.
I came back tired but really happy with the trip. Thank you for your well wishes.
L’Occitane is very big in Australia and I have been using their products for decades. They are really high quality and I am sure you will love them.
I am so glad that your trip worked out so well with your daughter – she is lucky to have such a wonderful mother as you.
How was your trip, Deborah? What was your favorite part about it?
Christine, my trip was wonderful. I really needed it and we saw such amazing country all across Canada and the West Coast. I would have to say my favorite part was the trip from Crescent City, California down to Fort Bragg and Mendocino. I love the northern California coast and between the ocean and the redwoods and the wonderful cool temperatures, it was heaven. A part of me wishes I had decided to retire to the coast rather than to Montana but I would be quite a ways from family and my family is important to me so here I am. I hope to make many trips to the coast though.
OMG, you weren’t kidding when you said you would post an epic haul!! WOW, so many great places, and SO many goodies to play with! And I see you found your ByTerry counter, yay! When you get a chance, can you let me know if you have any recs/faves for the Devinah shadows? I haven’t tried any of the shades you bought, thanks!
Poor Mellon, suffering from side effects of his medication. I hope he is feeling better now.
Haul: Art Deco lipstick in Indian Red, Nude by Nature (an Australian cruelty free brand) BB creme in porcelain.
Weekend plans: A drive down to the coast for lunch in a country pub on Saturday and everyone over for dinner on Sunday. Searching for Lachlan’s favourite dummy – he has a tendency to ‘post’ things and he won’t go for his afternoon sleep without his blessed dummy. We have turned the house upside down looking for it, hoping to find it for Sunday. He has spares at home, but not at our place….
Last film watched: At the movies – it was with my girlfriends quite awhile ago – The Girl on the Train.
Awww I hope he gets better. Nothing worse than a sick pet 🙁
Haul: Nada. I’m saving up for a few things (like the Jo Malone Oak collection!) and also have a major medical appointment set for October that’s going to involve travel plans and all sorts of logistics so I don’t want to spend too much.
Weekend plans: Enjoying the new AC unit in my room and hoping it doesn’t crap out like my last one did (when it was 107 outside!)
What was the last movie you watched?: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 now that it’s finally out
So glad to hear Mellan’s liver function values have returned to the normal range!
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury order with Mona Lisa cream shadow and Legendary Brows arrived. Love Mona Lisa!
(25% off pre-sale deal with BB & Trendmood) Two new Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color lipsticks in Regal and Cherry arrived. Regal looks pinky-red on me while Cherry looks red plum, almost rosy. They are lovely. (I wonder if BB is phasing out some lipstick lines that are now on sale for 30% off.)
Weekend plans: Continue to clean areas of the apartment with a view to more efficient organization. Getting a handle on my fall calendar. Enjoy the warm weather.
What was the last movie you watched?: Likely the most recent Jason Bourne movie.
First and Foremost: Best wishes for Mellan.
also wishing the best for all of you out there overcoming health issues and obstacles.
Haul: The only item I ordered from the Nordstrom Sale was the Rose gold mirror you recommended. I just have to get used to it and maybe download that app to control the settings?
Weekend: I went nuts an ordered a new bed (after ordering 2 armoires!) for my bedroom. I have not had a “nice” bedroom in about 30 years, way overdue. I hope the handyman shows up tomorrow to put it together. I can’t wait!
Movie: I too watched The Baby Driver recently with my husband and (adult) sons. I probably would not have chosen that film myself but being overwhelmed by the testosterone around me I let them pick the movie, not expecting to like it but I did enjoy it after all.
