Weekend plans: Mani as usual. Not sure about the rest of the weekend; maybe take a drive if the weather is nice.

What’s your favorite movie genre?: Depends on my mood. I like just about everything but top two would be drama and sci-fi.

Christine Avatar

Keep me posted on how Models Own products work for you, Michele! I saw them online at Ulta, but I have so much stuff to review that I’m really trying to spend better and closer to when I might be able to review!

I’m also super jealous your Tarte ordered shipped so fast! Mine is still processing.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I’ll have swatches of the 2 palettes from Ulta up this weekend (one each day probably). I’m going to swatch them in the next hour or so. Since I’m caught up on test wearing shadows, I’m also going to try to wear looks from one palette each day. The bigger ASOS order is supposed to come Tuesday so those swatches should be up over the course of the week and will test the following weekend.
Tarte was surprisingly fast. The order is actually already in my city but since it’s Smartpost, it won’t be delivered until Monday or Tuesday. I’ll try to get those up next week too and combine them for looks the following weekend.
Will update you. (If it makes you feel better, my Too Faced order still shows as processing – LOL!)

Haul:

Burberry Velvet Liquid Lipstick in Fawn. I don’t know what to do with this. I really don’t like the color but when I top it with an Urban Decay Naked lipgloss, it looks better.

As soon as the La Von D Pastel Goth palette was restocked at Sephora, I ordered it immediately. I love it! Every day when I get home from work I put the green color right on top of whatever I’m wearing because I can’t go a day without seeing it again! I love it all over the lid with the grey in the crease and the white on my inner lid.

Back in the fall, I knew I would get the Anastasia Mario palette as soon as it was released. I have bought every Anastasia palette for the last 3 years and have loved every single one, so for me it was just a given that I would get the Mario. Then I started reading the negative reviews and I second guessed myself. So this week I bought that palette on eBay for twice the original price. And it’s just as fantastic as I thought it would be. I really do love it and wish I had followed my gut.
Lesson learned.

Weekend: My daughter is still recovering from surgery (she has 17 stitches down there!) so I will be cooking some meals for her on Saturday. Every day that passes without her going into labor is such a relief. She really needs a couple more weeks to recuperate.

I like drama, indie and foreign films.

Katherine T. Avatar

Tammy, SO glad you’re loving KVD Pastel Goth! Such a beautiful, unique palette. And thanks for the update on your daughter and the baby, fingers crossed for them

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Sounds like you at least found a way to make Fawn work for you. For the price, it’s a good thing!

Oh, love the shade combo you’re creating with the KVD! With your coloring that’s got to look fantastic on you.

Hope your daughter continues to do well – sending best wishes!

Nancy T Avatar

So glad to hear that Baby is staying put! Which has got to be a huge relief for you and your daughter, as a few more weeks will give her a much needed, and deserved break.

I just *knew* you’d love Pastel Goth, as our coloring is somewhat similar! It is one gloriously fun colorful palette! Shame about Fawn, though. Nudes are tricky for us medium toned, dark haired, but with lighter color eyes folks. They can look muddy on us, or just plain strange, sometimes!

Genevieve Avatar

Thank goodness that all is going well with the baby and your daughter. I have been praying for both of them. What a good mummy you are to prepare meals for them – I know I did this too when my daughter in law was really ill after the birth of their second child. It means so much to your daughter to have you there as back up.

HAUL: Chanel Jardins Eclatants palette, and the Codes Subtils palette might’ve snuck in there, too…..

Christine, can you recommend any tricks for eyeshadows that just don’t wear well? I really want to love the TF Nude Dip palette but the shadows just won’t stay on me. I’ve tried UDPP, mixing medium, paint pots underneath…. the shadows crease and fade away in like, an hour it’s crazy. I have slightly hooded eyes but usually any ol’ primer does the trick for me. I don’t want to return Nude Dip because it’s super easy to apply and wear and it’s goooorg. But it’s like the bad boy that can’t be tamed.

WEEKEND: Seeing Beauty and the Beast
MOVIE GENRE: I love intense Family Dramas, and at the opposite end, Sci-Fi Horror (although there’s a lot of sub-par stuff in this category, I still love the classics).

Christine Avatar

That is very bizarre – it sounds like you’ve already tried so many things! Paint Pots are usually quite sturdy. The only things I can think of are to try it wet (since I know Nude Dip would work with a damp brush) or a cream eyeshadow (something tacky).

Ginny Avatar

Tammy, I just ordered them today! Next Friday I’ll be sure to comment on what I think of them. I wasn’t sure the colors of Codes Subtils would work on me, either, which is why it didn’t catch my eye upon first release. I am super fair with peachy/yellowy tones. Blackened colors like #4 in the quad can look sooty on me. From swatches I see around the web it seems to be made-in-heaven for medium skin tones (they get the most out of that 4th color). But I’m having an (expensive) love affair with Chanel’s formula right now so I figured what the heck let’s try it. I’ll report back!

Tammy Avatar

When I looked around online, I could only find this quad available directly from Chanel. Is this an exclusive item, available only from Chanel, or will other retailers carry it?

Ginny Avatar

Which one? I think right now Jardins Eclatants is only available at Chanel (but might release at other retailers soon?) Subtils is out of stock on Chanel’s site. I bought that one at Nordstrom today.

Katherine T. Avatar

Tammy, Chanel Code Subtils is LE for Spring/Summer, it launched super early (middle of December) and is still available online at Nordstroms and Macy’s as of today. The other Code quad (Elegantes, the gold one) is permanent. The Jardin shadow quads are also Spring, and there’s also the Cruise collection for summer, but don’t think that one has any shadow quads.

Haul: SEPHORA COLLECTION Cream Lip Stain in 29 Dark Forest, and 23 Copper Blush, I definitely need to check out the rest of the new shades in person as the online swatches are off in terms of colour saturation with the nudes they have as 23 Copper Blush is a lot less pink. 😉 Also a Guerlain Meteorites Base Perfecting Pearls mini.

I also got a new Fridge, the old one died completely last Thursday and we had to wait a week to get the new on in….. we were living out of a cooler. lol

Weekend plans: Same old, but kicking production into high gear on armour and wig work.

What’s your favorite movie genre?: Fantasy which covers a lot of thing from cartoons to comic books and live actions.

Monica Avatar

Haul: some sheet masks because I have more travel coming up and new journals (almost done with my current bullet journal haha)

Weekend plans: sleep, boy do I need it! Cleaning also is happening.

Haul: Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting primer, Physicians Formila InstaReady concealer in Medium, Rimmel lip liners in Tiramisu & Spice, Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak dry shampoo in Warm Sugar

Weekend plans: maybe run a few errands, do schoolwork, go to church. Nice and simple 🙂

What’s your favorite movie genre?: action & comedy (not rated R) every time. I always want to laugh!

Christine, do you always think of the last question on FFHF? They’re always quite interesting!

Dani Avatar

Hey Christine! I have a question. ..do you have nay idea if you will be reviewing the 2017 Tarte rainforest of the sea color splash lipsticks? I have 2 of them and the formula is amazing! Have a great week!

Haul: No makeup purchases this week!

Weekend plans: Hit the outlet mall this afternoon, and I think I am going to take one of my pups to the grand opening of a new pet goods store tomorrow morning- fun little field trip! ?

The Makeup Train Avatar

Haul: It was my birthday on Sunday! I went to Sephora and Bloomingdale’s and bought Fresh Age Delay Eye Concentrate, Clarins Instant eyeliner (liquid), Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Bond Girl, lip liner in Hollywood Honey, and my Caudalie birthday gift. My friends sent me Beyonce Pulse perfume, and Heimish All Clean Balm.

Weekend plans: Hopefully get to the post office. The snow in NY has kept me indoors for the week.

What’s your favorite movie genre?: Fantasy. I can watch Harry Potter for weeks.

AB Avatar

Haul: Waiting for Bite Champagne Pearl order to arrive. Otherwise — nothing, despite one evening in a local Sephora to see if anything got my attention.

Weekend: Preparing for a long trip that begins next weekend, so things like getting dry cleaning in, stopping mail, etc. Otherwise, the usual of errands, pilates, trying to catch up on sleep.

Favorite movie genre: Comedy; also science fiction

Haul: Nabla Cosmetics: pressed eye shadows in Luna, Paprika, Juno, Chemical Bond, Water Dream, Peach, Petra, Aphrodite and Fossil. Cream shadows in Birki and Husky and lipsticks in Ombre Rose, Domina and Beverly.

Illamasqua lipstick in Howl.
Farsali: Unicorn Essence and Rose Gold Elixir.

Weekend: Starting spring break trip to Seattle and then down Washington coast line. My daughters last spring break before graduating from Montana State University and hopefully getting a job!

Movie genre: I love a good chick flick, action movie or biography.

Deborah S. Avatar

Thank you Genevieve. It is a proud moment and she has done so well. She is very passionate about her goals in life and although our world views are so different I admire her passion and tenacity. I keep asking myself how I managed to raise such a liberal, radical feminist. Not to say that I don’t have the same beliefs but she isn’t frightened to take on even the toughest antagonists. She just wants to make the world a better place for all people and especially for women. I admire her tremendously and yet am a little frightened for her also. I am looking forward to spending the week with her on the coast. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.

I just want to hug Mellan, he’s too cute!
* Jeffree Star — Androgyny Shadow Palette -OMG, please check this one out! I got this yesterday, have only swatched on my arms, but was blown away by the interesting colors ( red, purple, orange, blue, green ) and high quality, especially considering 6 of the 10 shades are mattes, and 7 of the shades are more unique colors that are harder to formulate. The pans are huge, so you get a lot for $45. The matte blue will need a bit of help from primer, but is still good, and so is the beige, but all of the other shades awesome, with many of those bold mattes being just as good as the ones in KVD Metal Matte. You can buy thru Beautylish or from his website. And thanks to Michele for the awesome rec! Check out her social media for swatches. Also got the highlighter in So Fuckin’ Gold (sorry but that’s the name of it). It’s a huge pan, with strong gold shimmer, but the base is a darker bronzy gold, much darker than I was expecting, so I need to play around with this and see if it will work out on my NC15-20 skin.
*MAC – Caitlyn Buddy Blush/Highlighter Duo (both shades were very pigmented and smooth, LOVE the flattering colors, good staying power), Diane Kendal Kajal in Flourish Me Beautiful (purple). Since the purple was sold out online, I called my local MAC store, and they had one kajal left in the ENTIRE store, and it was the purple! They held it for me, and I hustled down there. Love the color and unique packaging. I swatched it on my arm, and +30 hours later, after 3 hot showers, and a body scrub, it was still there, about 50% faded but still there! With primer, the eyeliner wears like iron on my oily lids. Sadly it doesn’t wear more than 2 hours on my wet waterline (nothing has) but a number of readers mentioned it’s great for waterline. I sure hope MAC brings the formula back permanently.
*Sephora (annual 10% off +4% cash back) – NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Pussy Control (not too crazy about the name even if it’s a Prince song, but love the pretty purple color and it’s unique to my collection), Marc Jacobs Matte Eyeliner in Fine Wine and Mist Me (gorgeous unique red and lilac, swatches well on the arms), BITE Amuse Bouche Duo Lipstick in Sour Cherry and Gold (beautiful, and only $10 on sale), Supergoop Soothing Mineral Sunscreen (repurchase), Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Hair Oil (repurchase). Also redeemed various 100 pt rewards — BITE Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Pastille (very pretty, universally flattering color), Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso (cray cray pigmented red, beautiful), Clinique Chubby Highlighter Stick in Hefty Highlight (nice travel size, easy to wear color), Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Treatment and First Aid Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum (haven’t tested yet)
*Update – Too Faced finally shipped my gold highlighter after 7 days, will take another 7 to get to me. Maybe all the complaints on this blog helped. Still not happy with their refusal to cancel my order, and their slowness, when I could’ve waltzed into Sephora and grabbed it or got it online with 2 days flash shipping.
*Weekend – the last 2 weeks have been cray busy at work, so need to relax and play around with all my new makeup 🙂
*Fave movie genre – action, psychological thrillers

Katherine T. Avatar

Wow, IDK what happened, but the Too Faced highlighter showed up on my doorstep today, 5 days earlier than expected! I ordered online about 1 hr after their launch, took them 5 days to ship, but once they did, only took 2 days to get to me, we’re both in CA. Maybe all that whining and complaining online helped. The shiny gold packaging and embossing is absolutely stunning, leaves me breathless, still playing around with the highlighter. What’s interesting is that some swatches online look more yellow gold, others look more peachy, so maybe there are batch differences. I would’ve preferred more yellow gold, but I’ve swatched 3 different batches in person, and they were peachy looking, although a more yellow peach. Could’ve been part of that Sweet Peach collection, ahahahaha

xamyx Avatar

Haul: I went a bit overboard on highlighters over the past few weeks…

NYX Away We Glow in Moon Glow & Liquid Prism; NYX Duo Chromatic in Twilight Tint, Lavender Steel, & Snow Rose (arrived broken-my first ULTA “casualty”); Makeup Revolution Strobe in Holographic Lights, Ever Glow Lights, & Moon Glow Lights; Makeup Revolution Triple Baked Highlighters in Goddess of Love & Goddess of Faith; Makeup Revolution Skin Kiss in Ice Kiss; Essence Pure Nude in Be My Highlight; Wet n Wild MegaGlo Makeup Stix in When The Nude Strikes; Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strobing & Matte Sculpting.

I also picked up 3 more Wet n Wild Catsuit Liquid Lipstick-a nude & red at CVS, and Take It Like A Vamp off Amazon for $14 (it never came to a local store, and I LOVE the formula so much that it was worth the cost) & 2 of the new gel lip liners (red & plum); NYX Ombre Blush in Nude To Me; MAC In The Flesh palette; NYX HD Concealer in Fair; Physician’s Formula InstaReady Concealer in Fair; Physician’s Formula Butter Blush in Plum Rose; Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Foundation in Porcelain & Pressed Powder in Warm Light; Physician’s Formula Slide-On Eyeliner in Champagne. I think that’s it…

Plans: Nothing unusual or exciting, just errands & cleaning…

Movie Genre: Film Noir.

xamyx Avatar

Not to mention BOGO/BOGO 1/2 sales, LOL! I was kind of regretting not getting the ABH Moonchild palette, but between my recent acquisitions & Kat von D Alchemist palette, I think I’m covered.

The only one that disappointed is the Wet n Wild MegaGlo stick, as it is a bit too sparkly for my taste, and can accentuate texture…

Mellan looks ready to start the weekend!!

Haul: (20% off): Bobbi Brown Liquid Art Sticks in Rich Red and Havana Coral, Remedies No.80 Skin Relief Concentrate, and Brush Cleaning Spray.

Weekend Plans: Enjoy warmer weather, clean the apt, pull together tax info and review The Ordinary’s products for purchase next week.

Fave movie genre: I don’t watch a lot of movies but tend to prefer action (hello, Jason Bourne) and drama.

Rachel R. Avatar

Haul: E.l.f. — Flawless Finish Foundation in Natural (previously Porcelain) and the new Light Ivory shade (to try it out, it’s supposed to be lighter), HD Powder in Sheer, a couple of lip brushes, and various eye brushes.

Weekend plans: Sunday I’m going to a friend’s house for dinner. Other than that, just the usual chores and grocery shopping.

What’s your favorite movie genre?: Fantasy/sci fi/horror

Erin Avatar

Haul: Nothing yet though my Play order just came in. I got an assload of highlighters in it. Like everything is sparkly. I’m happy to se UD Big Bang lipstick though as I loved it but didn’t think it was worth a full size. I bought a sheet mask at Sephora last weekend and got a few samples. I really have the urge to spend to make myself feel less crappy.

Weekend: Well I’m not 100% sure yet. It’s been an extremely stressful day at work so far. My husband and I also had a huge fight last night and I’m kind of unsure where I stand both at work and at home. Hopefully, some of that will be smoothed out before the day is done and plans can be made.

Movies: I prefer Sci-Fi or Fantasy films but if none are available, comedy is important. I love a good drama but life is so rough for me, I have my fill of tears and stress so I rarely see them. A good sci-fi with have dramatic elements anyhow. Action or family movies are also very entertaining when the mood strikes.

I’m not sure you’ve used the Tatcha products before. I love the oil and I break out from the Indigo cream which sucks because a few hours into wearing it it really calms down redness. I get tons of white heads from it though. There new essence is on my want to buy list.

Christine Avatar

What sheet mask did you get, Erin? Do you have any must-have sheet masks? The Indigo body butter + hand cream do wonders for me! Did not like their sunscreen at all, though.

I’m sure everything between you and your husband will be fine – hope everything goes well for you!

LindaP Avatar

Oh Erin, I hate those spells that get thrown at us. Being under siege from all angles is exhausting. Husband, job = two of the biggest stressors when things are off balance. Time lets all resolve, but that doesn’t mean waiting it out and getting through it is any fun. We’ve all been there if that’s any consolation. xoxo

AB Avatar

My movie genre selections were also comedy and sci/fi. I always, always find a good laugh helps. Hope you can find such a film to see during this stressful time.

Anne Avatar

That’s a tough one!

I’ve been more into sci-fi tv shows lately (I’ve been going gaga over The Expanse!) but I think Contact (1997 film with Jodie Foster based on a novel by Carl Sagan) is a really good film, and touches on a lot of themes like the military-industrial complex, sexism, and just cool science, as well as the aliens being peaceful.

Pacific Rim was awesome, particularly as what they needed to be able to fight was essentially compassion and empathy with another person so that’s cool.

Attack The Block is this amazing small-scale British film with baby John Boyega that’s the only “scary” sci-fi film I like.

Honorable Mentions:

I really liked The Martian as it’s sarcastic AF (I highly recommend the book as well as they left some stuff out of the film) and apparently it renewed interest in NASA which is always a good thing.

Obviously Star Wars is huge, though I dislike the black and white connotations of the films and prefer Star Trek, but both are cornerstones of people getting into scifi so I think they’re important. But we need more women and POC in scifi (which is one of the main reasons why I love The Expanse as it has a ton of POC/women/WOC and also some queer people)

Sarah Avatar

Haul: Sunday Riley Blue Moon cleanser; Leahlani skincare (fantastic indie brand from Hawaii); Givenchy blurring foundation balm; Becca under eye concealer; Lancôme yellow color corrector for under eyes (I’m not impressed with this so it may go back).

Weekend: Today is my due date so hopefully spending it in the hospital with my new baby!

Movie genre: espionage action/political drama

Nancy T Avatar

Mellan does look particularly fluffy today! Hey Bud, feels great with a freshly shampooed coat, woof?

Haul: I wasn’t going to get anything except another tube of MAC Prep & Prime for lips last night, and perhaps a pro pan of Twinks…but I wound up not getting Twinks, but Tropic Cools x’s 9 instead. Without Julie or Tyler there, it is a VERY different environment, I had a super pushy SA as opposed to those who were enthusiastic, but never pushed every single thing I looked at with such an uncomfortable ferocity! Got it home and realized that I have very similar shades. Also was checking for all the new Chanel LE stuff, but only spotted the nail polishes and lip glosses.

Weekend plans: Per my usual, hair, nails, and meeting on Sunday. And a trip to Ulta to use my $10 BD month coupon and their BD perk that I finally received on this week.

What’s your favorite movie genre: Sci-fi or action/mystery! Once in a blue moon, a musical like “9” or Chicago. Or movies like Titanic, The Color Purple or Forrest Gump that make one think and feel deeply, even survive a bad/ difficult situation, because HOPE. ?

Stephanie Avatar

Haul: Took advantage of some sales at Ulta…

*UD Smoked palette, which has popped up again, this time for $20.
*Tarte Double Duty Beauty Gel Foundation, which was on sale for $27. Tried it today and like it pretty well.
*Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer, which was on sale but would be worth it at full price if for no other reason than the scent (and this is coming from someone who generally prefers no fragrance whatsoever in my cosmetics).
*Two LA Girl Just Blushing Powders…A matte one that turned out to be pretty similar to Too Faced Baby Love and a shimmery shade. The matte one looks great, but the shimmery one swatched funny, so we will see how it works on my cheeks.
*Two LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks – a red shade and a purple one that reminds me a little of UD Pandemonium.
*Two LA Girl Matte Pigment Glosses – a purple one that is a lot more similar that I expected to the purple matte lipstick, and an orange shade.

Weekend plans: My sons will be with their dad, so I plan on taking my daughter to see Beauty and the Beast tomorrow and doing some other things her brothers wouldn’t be very interested in doing. Other than that, just cleaning house and making a dent in my endless pile of laundry.

Favorite movie genres: Drama and comedy.

Mariella Avatar

Haul: Chanel Chance Eau Tendre hair mist (it is really lovely), another Sephora Cappucino eye liner (love that colour), Jouviance FocusFX eye serum and from MAC (who can resist the 25% off?), Prep+Prime 24 Hour Eye Base (I’ve been really wanting to try it but have about 5 eyeshadow primers on the go so had a hard time justifying it til I got that discount thingy) and MAC Waterweight Foundation in NW15 (and she gave me a sample of NW13 to try as well).

Weekend plans: my daughter’s birthday is tomorrow so we’re taking her and my son in law out to her fave restaurant.

Favourite movie genre: is “vintage” a genre? Rom coms like Charade (Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant) or Vacation from a Marriage (Deborah Kerr and Robert Donat, I think), as opposed to what passes for romantic comedy nowadays. Also, quirky comedies like Waking Ned Devine, The Matchmaker, Le Placard (The Closet) – stuff like that.

Mariella Avatar

No – the only Chanel fragrance I like is the perfume version of 19 but I might give Chance a try as I really like the occasional “whiffs” I get from the hair mist. I’ve heard such good things about the eye base so I’ve been really eager to give it a try. Have you tried the Waterweight foundation? It’s actually a lot like Sephora Teint Infusion Ethereal, which they discontinued but which I really love.

Pearl Avatar

Haul:

MAC
Dame, Warm Soul (back up), Cosmic Force, Love Joy Mineralize Blushes
Try Me On and Get Physical Dazzle Shadows
Mineralize and Pro Longwear concealers in NW20
Jubilee lipstick (perfect nude, forgot how good this was)

Weekend plans: Out of town work conference and celebrating fiancé’s birthday.

Whats your favorite movie genre? sci fi and urban fantasy (Harry Potter, Marvel’s stuff, vampires, zombies, etc.), animated (Pixar) and most movies with special effects.

Allison Avatar

Hooray for moving servers/hosts! Hope it was a smooth transition 🙂

Haul: Nothing! I pretty much have everything I need at this point. Well, I guess I’d like some more lip glosses, but I’d need to do some relatively heavy research on the ones that I want. I know I like the Laura Mercier Lip Glace formula, but I also want more shimmer from my glosses, so I’ll have to look into things like those!

Weekend plans: Schoolwork! I have a final project I have to present on Monday, and my group partners are not coordinating very well, so I have a lot to do. I also need to study for my finals next week, but I have a bit more time for that, so it’s not necessarily a weekend priority.

What’s your favorite movie genre?: I don’t know! Probs the same as you Christine, animated/family movies. Disney/Pixar ftw! I haven’t been able to get the Moana soundtrack out of my head for like two weeks at this point, lol.

Allison Avatar

Oh wait no, last Sunday I did get some Korean sheet masks in Chinatown! I’ve only tried an anti-aging one so far, and I feel like it didn’t make that much of a difference. My skin is pretty consistently decent with my current routine though, but I would really like to take measures to even my skin tone, and make my acne scars less visible.

Christine Avatar

Me + technology =/= smooth, LOL!

Good luck on your final project, Allison! I hope you’re able to get your group to help or at least find a way to pick up the slack. Group projects can be such a bummer when your teammates aren’t helpful!

My husband loves singing “You’re Welcome,” haha!

LindaP Avatar

Haul: Here’s what happened…. Long story. Grab a cuppa. 🙂 My sweet son and lovely DIL came to visit last weekend. She and I always end up on makeup, and by the time she left, I gifted her my Viseart palettes — all but the neutral mattes. It was not a “weak moment” kind of thing. She looked so pretty playing around with them, and she’s in school getting her PhD, so always a little broke. She was so happy and it made me happy to do it. And I was relived…

Now…another part of the story that is a bit more self-serving. I LOVE those Viseart shadows, I really do. I don’t know if anyone can relate, but using a larger size palette makes me stress. The recent Chanel Empreinte du Desert purchase made me realize I MUCH prefer a pre-sorted quad. I’m not that artistic, so the choices can confuse me. And having the unused colors in a large palette just makes me uncomfortable. It’s totally WEIRD, but it’s the way I feel. So I’m not sad to start over a bit.

To that end I ordered two Chanel quads:
Jardin Eclatants — waiting for delivery
Tisse Vendome — just arrived yesterday. (Been so sick, haven’t even opened it.)

Also replaced a Biologique Recherche Serum A-Glyca that I emptied.

Weekend plans: Recovering. I’m happy to be upright writing about makeup today. My husband and I have been so incredibly sick all week. The Boston Globe calls it, “THE Cold.” If you’ve had it, you know what that means. I have not been this sick in decades. Every day, I’d wake up thinking I’d be better, and it would be the same or worse. Horrible bug.

Our sweet Cali pup is starting to feel back to her old self too. She was on a low down right with us, but is recovering nicely from her accident. Nice to see her starting to act sprightly again.

Movies: I like dramas best.

Christine Avatar

I hope you and your husband feel better soon! I haven’t been sick much recently, but a few years back, my husband and I had what we’re pretty sure was the swine flu and it was just horrendous. I feel for you guys! Get rest, stay hydrated!!

And managing Cali through it all! Saints — both of you!

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh no, hope everyone feels better real soon. Viseart came out with the Petit Pros, so who knows, maybe they will come out with a quad someday !

ouineque Avatar

I hope you feel better soon Linda! And I can totally relate to what you say about your preference for smaller palettes instead of large ones. My biggest palettes are the Theorly Palettes from Viseart (yes, another fan here), further I have mostly quads (and one quint) and I will stick to that however beautiful the larger palettes look and how much better value it might be. And guess what: I ordered Jardins Eclatants as well! 🙂

LindaP Avatar

Hi Ouineque!

Let’s compare notes! So far, the Tisse Vendome — nice quad, just not so great on me. I think I’ll sell that one.

I have to say, even through Christine gave it a B, that other Jardin quad is really speaking to me. I don’t have anything like it. Pondering…..

And, yep, no more big palettes for me. Can’t handle it! 🙂

ouineque Avatar

Hm, too bad the Tissé Vendome is not what you expected. Maybe it’s too warm? Selling is a good idea, it’s what I recently did: I put my eye shadows to the test and was really strict. All the things that I wanted to love, but I wasn’t truly happy about went to new owners!

The Jardins Lumières indeed is original! I love all of those colors, but the B made my decision a lot easier. Let us know if you will get it! (And if you like it…) I just got my Jardins Eclatants, two days before I expected it! ?

Tammy Avatar

That cold sounds awful. I hope you continue to recover and are back to health soon.

I was so worried about Cali. Based on your description of her accident, it sounds like you almost lost her. I am glad she is healing.

I know what you mean about the Viseart palettes. I have three, and I rarely ever use them. I was thinking about selling or gifting them. I am getting more comfortable with creating looks from palettes in general (I used to panic when trying to choose colors) but with Viseart you have to have several palettes open to create a look, and I get very overwhelmed when confronted with too many choices. I bet your daughter in law was thrilled, and I think it will be great fun for you to buy new quads. I am excited to hear about your thoughts about the Chanel quads!

LindaP Avatar

I was a little hesitant about posting my “anxiety” about facing the palettes in the morning. I mean, really, it’s makeup. But it was stressing me out. 🙂 Your description reflects my feelings exactly. I loved it at first, then got lost in the weeds. Good to know I’m not alone. This is my first entree into larger palettes, and it’s not for me.

Reporting in on Tisse Vendome. Tried it two days now. Meh. It’s no Empriente. I’m not sure the colors do much for me, and they show up very light on me. I could use a bit more oomph I think. This one I think will be sold. Oh well. All the more experimenting to do!

Thanks for the kind words about Cali. She’s coming along better every day. Much more subdued than she ever was. I wonder the experience changed her a bit? We’ll see.

LindaP Avatar

OK, hold the phone on Tisse Vendome! My husband and I gathered ourselves up for a trip to the coffee shop. Our first outing in more than a week. In line, a woman asked me what my eye shadow was! She said, “It’s so flattering in how it brings out your eyes.”

Well now, I may have to reassess Tisse Vendome when I get off the cold meds. 🙂

Mariella Avatar

Linda, I can totally relate with regard to large palettes. They can be totally overwhelming and I often turn to youtube videos to help me out because I often can’t “see” how to use some of the more unusual (meaning “not neutral”) shades in a way that is wearable and appealing to me. Add my “get well” wishes to those of others. I’m almost afraid to type it but, knock wood, this year I haven’t had a single cold. Mind you, hubby’s cardiac issue (a condition that was well controlled with meds but is no longer controlled at all) has been an ongoing issue and to be honest, I’d rather have had a stinker of a cold than be dealing with this.

LindaP Avatar

Hi Mariella!

Like I said to Tammy, I’m glad I posted that sentiment. I truly thought it was a “just me” thing. At least now I know to stick with what works — not only brand wise, but what I can manage.

See my view on Tisse Vendome in response to Tammy. FYI.

If I recall, I think you husband has afib? I’ve been through that myself, and it’s terrifying. I was a candidate for ablation, which luckily worked. Meds were touch and go for me in terms of effectiveness, and that was really hard. But, yes, this horror show of a virus will pass, and I’ll take this rather than going back to a-fib any day. I do understand your worry. xoxo

Haul: Finally brought a Tom Ford eye shadow quad in Honeymoon from Beautylish using my $40 coupon.Haven’t used it yet but it looks pretty. Jouer Cayenne liquid lip stick, a pretty metallic rosy-pink color that feels great on the lips! I love my new Tom Ford blush brush that I recently purchased based on Temptalia’s recommendation!

Weekend Plans: Pack for a short trip to Fort Lauderdale next week. De-Clutter my closet . Maybe catch a movie. Buy Estee Lauder’s Night Repair Serum cause I’m almost out

What’s your favorite movie genre: Mystery and Horror. I like a good thriller to get my heart pumping. Not really a dare devil or adrenaline junkie though, lol .

maria Avatar

I also purchased Tatcha cleansing oil and Tatcha polished enzyme powder.
I would like to get more sleep because today I did not get any I am starting to look very haggard.
Favorite Movie Genre: A really good comedy with an even better story line. I love well written murder mystery’s that really keep you in suspense but not gory movies I hate them I like good mystery’s.

maria Avatar

I have been using the Cleansing Face Oil and the polishing enzyme powder for about a year but I have never tried any of their other products except for their blotting papers.

Mariella Avatar

The only thing I’ve tried from Tatcha is the face mist but it is so wonderful that I want to try some more products from them. I thought about the enzyme powder but I’ve got Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant and a similar product from Indeed (very much the same and about 1/4 the price of Dermalogica). I do want to try the Tatcha essence, though, and also their blotting papers, which seem to be almost a work of art in addition to being great blotting papers.

maria Avatar

The only thing I use from Tatcha is the cleansing oil and the polishing enzyme powder. I use it after the cleansing oil to make sure I removed all my makeup. I do have the blotting papers which I use very rarely but the are quite nice if you have oily skin. I have to try their face mist the one that I use is from AmorePacific moisture bound skin energy hydrating spray I use it after I apply all my makeup as a setting spray. I tend to have dry skin so it works well for me.

Haul: I haven’t ordered or bought anything yet. But on sunday I’ll be purchasing that AWESOME Essence highlight that you’ve reviewed here, Christine!! It’s FINALLY shown up at my Shopper’s Drug Mart. So I’ll be going to pick it up and a new brow gel to replace my current (and favourite!!) MAC Brow set!!

Weekend plans: I’m baby sitting my god son on Saturday Night, while his mom, my good friend goes out on a date with her husband!! So that’ll be a blast!!! He’s 6 years old, and he has down syndrome, and he’s mute. So we communicate with sign language!! He’s so smart and sweet!! I haven’t seen him since my birthday last month, so I’ll be happy to have some good time with the lil dude!!

Favourite Movie Genre: Hmmm I’d have to go with Documentaries if they count!! I love them so much!!

Mellon looks beautiful – a really lovely doggie!
Haul: Nothing this week – I am still using up all my Christmas goodies from my Priceline Skincare bag and rotating my palettes.
Weekend plans: Nothing really big on Saturday – shopping and cleaning. On Sunday I am taking Olivia and Lachlan to a fete at a nearby school. They have lots of kid activities and I like to support the local schools in their fund raising efforts.
Movie Genre: I am not really a big movie fan, but I like films that have a factual bases and a good storyline. The most recent one I’ve seen and loved is Hidden Figures. A great movie.

Prob hauling next week to make up for only 1 tiny Ulta haul this year…. despite cruising daily, I have been sehr gut (can you tell my main want is the big Zoeva matte palette?). I hauled my Patticake back home from Logan. The transport wanted 160$, which I though exorbitant, when it’s 10 mi as the crow flies. Patti is a true ‘wrong-haired dachshund.’ She is both piebald AND dapple. If you are a dog person, you know the coat pattern is supposed to be one or the other, not both. She is beautiful, and my Jussi loves her. No Cesar walking….she came with no collar, and the ones on hand were too big. KC, MO >Cincinnati > Boston. Jet lagged. Virtually no experience with people. She was a puppy mill breeder girl (can I say sex slave here?) but she should have had a far better life. I’m going to insure she gets one. First, we learn to walk. Her dog social skills are ok, and she’s docile. It makes me cry that she does not know how to interpret a kind touch or a hug. Actually, it makes me furious. Jussi and I got her a collar…and she was in the same place on the couch….we were gone ~40 minutes. Most of my weekend, except night job, will be spent with her and Jussi. There’s a funeral, too. Here’s to a better life and to the end of puppy mills.

Haul: I bought two new Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks (Indie Rose and LA Pink), Kevyn Aucoin’s Sculpting Powder (totally due to yesterday’s post on Temptalia, lol!), and Sigma’s contouring kit with 3 brushes.
Weekend plans: a symphony concert tomorrow night, and maybe going out to the desert to see the super bloom on Sunday, but it’s been so popular with people from the area that apparently the traffic to get there is insane. So we’ll see!
Favorite movie genre: mysteries!

Haul: Dior Air Luminizer in001. Tomorrow I will be picking up some Dior lipsticks and lip liners (I have never used Dior lipsticks).
Weekend plans : We are watching a movie on demand at home “The passengers”. Tomorrow we will go shopping for the husband and of course eating out. Again it’s my cheat day 😀

Favourite movie genre: I am a big Sci fi/Mystery/Thriller fan. That being said, I also like some Disney and Pixan movies.

Ameerah Avatar

One from their new launch: the Dior Addict Lacquer stick (I tried a couple shades out last week and really liked it. Very nicely pigmented and very comfortable on my dry lips.)
Two from the Dior Couture Colour Rouge lipsticks.

Haul: Make-Up Revolution “Freedom Favours The Brave” Eye Shadow Palette. Make-Up Revolution Shimmer Brick in “Radiant”. Make-up Revolution Baked Bronzer. Never really tried any Make-Up Revolution products before, but they seem to be popping up more frequently on the youTube channels I watch, so I decided to try out a few products to see how they worked for me. A mixed bag of results so far, but the powder products seem to be really high quality- cream/liquid products not so much.

Weekend plans: Its St.Patricks Day Weekend so the whole country will be in the pub for the next few days!

What’s your favorite movie genre?: Disney

Domine Avatar

Hi Christine, I think its good for the price (it was €12 in Ireland). It wouldn’t be as good as say my Modern Renaissance. But for the price the majority of the shades were workable on my skin (I have fair skin) especially when used with Fix+

ouineque Avatar

Mellan looks so rosy after his bath!

Haul: I officialy broke my no-buy (hm, for what it was worth) this week. I got the Makeup Revolution Bronze Shimmer Highlight and I like it a lot! It’s just in between my summer powder (a Mac powder that I use as a base and as a light matte bronzer as well) and my summer bronzer (an old Estee Lauder one with nice red undertones). I swatched the matte bronzer as well (it’s supposed to be good according to ‘youtube’) but I found it a bit powdery. And I didn’t want to resist the Jardins Eclatants from Chanel. It’s on it’s way.
Weekend plans: not a lot. I want to work a little since I haven’t done enough during the week.
Films: I think it’s what you call ‘indie’ films, usually smaller productions that you can see in Art House theatres (that’s how we call them). I haven’t (and won’t) see any movies though, since moving images (any image, it can be boys playing soccer in the park as well) give me headaches (concussion, sigh), it’s hard because I love going to the movies by myself, and there are several small movie theatres near me, it’s so nice to sit in the dark and just forget about everything else.

Kat Avatar

Haul: I got some Colourpop! I got the Flipper Super Shock shadow and Centerfold pressed shadow (it says it’s not approved for use in the immediate eye area, but I’ll take my chances) plus Red Head pencil. It was delivered a few days ago to my school address but since I’m home, I won’t get to pick it up til Monday!

In-store (and only a few days before they announced the 25% off sale) I picked up MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC10. It had always been a favorite foundation for me but NC15 was a hair too dark and oxidized on top of that. NC10 goes on the perfect shade and I don’t find it actually oxidizes! I’ll probably pick up some MAC online for the sale as well.

I also got a new Beauty Blender and I’m a little confused. The texture seems a little different than what I’m used to, but I’m not sure that it won’t soften up more once I’ve washed it. I think the same thing happened last time I got a BB.

Weekend plans: I was in Washinton DC from Sunday to Friday on vacation with my roommate and visiting family, so I have to dedicate the weekend to packing up the house with my mom and brother so that we can finally move in with my stepdad. I don’t really live at home all that much (I’m at school most of the year) but it’s still a lot of work! The best part is that we keep finding cute baby pictures, clothes, and toys from when we were small.

Favorite movie genre: I honestly couldn’t tell you! I have favorites from all genres. If I’m going to the movie theater, I usually see action the most because I want to get my money’s worth of excitement, but at home, I watch all genres pretty regularly!

Kat Avatar

I picked them up today! Super cute colors. I’m planning to wear Flipper (lid) and Centerfold (crease) tomorrow to try to call up some sunshine in my life. Red Head pencil matches my hair PERFECTLY (my dyed hair, not natural), so it’ll be good to oomph-up my normal routine of tinted brow gel (to get my brows to match my hair).

I haven’t used any of the CP pressed powder shadows before so fingers crossed it’s good!
