  • Haul: Lancome Tresor eyeshadows
  • Weekend plans: Freak out! I can’t believe it’s December already. My parents will be visiting soon, so I need to get ahead of my reviews so I don’t spend all my time working while they’re here, haha!
  • What’s your favorite holiday movie?: We re-watch the entire Harry Potter movie series, which is probably one of my favorite things about the holidays. Following that, The Holiday, duh.

Haul: NARS Audacious lipstick in Kate, and the Black Friday Lorac palettes in Tails and Tophats and Black Tie Attire. Those little Lorac palettes are fantastic!

Weekend plans: Cooking! I will be making massive quantities of Texas Trash (a spicy Chex mix) and banana nut bread to give as gifts at the office on Monday. I am also going to make homemade pizza bread and one other undecided meal for my family. Thinking about Caesar salad with shredded chicken.

Favorite movie: Since the first time I saw the movie Scrooged in the theater, it has been my one and only favorite Christmas movie!

Tammy Avatar

Kate, my skin tone is medium warm and Kate goes oddly grey on my lips if I wear it fully opaque, but is a very sultry, moody fall and winter plum that looks nice on me if I apply with an easy hand. It’s one of the more unique colors in my collection.

Haul: I didn’t have much to report last week, but then I got a little crazy during the rest of Black Friday/ Cyber Monday. I did end up pre-ordering a second 8 palette of ABH eye shadow, picked up some Zoya polish (at 70% off, how can you NOT??), MAC Soft Frost, Nars Dual Intensity Cheek Palette (I got their 20% off, $10 back from Amex, and 7% in eBates lol), and then yesterday caved on the Too Faced deal for 1/2 off of the Sweethearts blush and completed my collection with Sparkling Bellini. After I spend my Sephora gift card I’m going on a no-buy, I swear!

Weekend plans: Probably work at least a little – I have a big meeting next week to get prepared for.

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie? I always loved the original (animated) How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Elf is up there, too! And of course we are also going to re-watch the Harry Potter series as well ๐Ÿ™‚

Julia Avatar

I got the first set and I love the texture! They are so velvety. I am just disappointed in myself for picking both Gleam and Sateen because they are basically identical! At least they’re pretty ๐Ÿ™‚

Tammy Avatar

I really like the NARS Dual Intensity blush palette. It took a week of use for it to grow on me, as the blush texture is quite different than anything else I own. It was how they looked at the end of the day that really sold me. Unlike other blushes, the dual intensity blushes seem to become part of my skin instead of sitting on top. The highlight color, which I thought would be too light for my medium warm skin tone, is beautiful. Hope you enjoy the palette as well.

kjh Avatar

I love it, too. Total go to. And I brought it back, bec I couldn’t start it up with soft Waynes. The SAs got it going with some weird brush and I scrubbed it a bit with a Zoeva face paint, I think. Don’t use the highlighter much, but the other three are beginning to have no embossing. Total go to. And I got it late, well after summer. Goes so well with fall colors. It’d be a must grab, if the stash caught fire. And I wrote off all the duos as too shimmery. An unexpected delight. Hope you love it, too, Julia.

Julia Avatar

I remember people making comments about that when the palette first launched! I actually have a similar issue with Clinique’s Cheek Pop blushes. I was trying to pick these (the Dual Intensity) up with my Goss fan brush to no avail, but maybe I’ll work them a little with the Real Techniques face brush or something equally aggressive first!

Tammy Avatar

I know most people don’t talk about Morphe brushes on this blog, but I cannot live without the Morphe M523 for contouring (which I do everyday) and for working with blushes that require a stiffer brush to pick up product. When you first put contour or blush on with the M523 it is quite bold, but it buffs the product out beautifully if you keep at it.

Yep, the end of the year always flies by so fast! Hope you enjoy your time with your parents ๐Ÿ™‚

Will be walking around the house, wearing 8 different shadows on 2 eyes, 2 kinds of blushes, and 3 highlighters all at once. Last time I did this, hubby didn’t notice a thing, but the toddler loved it! Hey, at least someone notices, hahahaha. Will also run to the MAC store to do last-minute swatching to see if I “need” anything more before the sale ends
*Favorite holiday movie – IDK, can’t remember, but I’m sure readers comments will jog my memory

Katherine T. Avatar

Thanks! Many of those MAC items had been on my wishlist forever and ever, just never got to getting them, was so distracted by all their LE collections. After all, what’s the big rush when many of my wishlist items are permanent and there’s never a sale on MAC stuff, anyway right? Well, when MAC sent me the 25% off email, I almost fell out of my chair, kept reading the fine print to see what was excluded (very little), so I finally pulled the trigger and placed the big order ๐Ÿ™‚

Mariella Avatar

I was so torn about getting MAC Dramatically Charged but, looking at Christine’s dupes, I realized I had about 6 of them so decided to get Mysterious Influence instead. As it turned out, they had sold out entirely of Dramatically Charged (which isn’t surprising – it is SO beautiful) and had ONLY ONE Mysterious Influence left…talk about luck! As I said in my “Haul post”, it was meant to be! If you need more recs for MAC eyeshadows, the Extra Dimension shadows in Sea Worship, Fathoms Deep and Stolen Moment are all great ones to purchase if you don’t already have them. I love the ED shadows and was so glad so many of them became permanent; I just wish they’d bring back Soul Serenade (I think that’s the one).

Katherine T. Avatar

Thanks for the MAC shadow recs, Mariella! Will check them out before the sale ends. Yes, I kept waffling back and forth on the Spellbinder shadows, couldn’t make up my mind which one I wanted, finally went with Dynamically Charged, and it’s beautiful. Glad you snagged the last Mysterious Influence ๐Ÿ™‚

Mariella Avatar

DYNAMICALLY Charged, not “Dramatically”. I have such a hard time remembering the names of all those shadows. I actually had to write them down on the MAC email, which I printed out because I had no other way of proving I’d signed up. Turns out that all they need is your email and they can look up your whole record. Anyway, those names – they make no sense. “Satin Taupe”, “Sumptuous Olive”, “Brun” – at least those names are sort of linked to the products they represent. But “Mysterious Influence”? “Dynamically Charged?” (okay, I sort of get that one because of the “magnetic” nature of the shadows…which are fun; I’m still fascinated by how the surface reforms into those ripples!) I don’t know your colouring or your preferences, Katherine, but I can vouch for those shades I mentioned. Silver Dawn is another ED shadow that is really pretty – a lighter iteration of Stolen Moment and if you’re looking for the Pro Pans that have been reduced in price, Era is a great every day/easy/no skill needed shadow.

What a dear face Mellan has!
Haul: relatively low key week as I anticipate shopping trip in Chicago later this month. NYX Cosmo shine gloss and MUFE Auburn shadow (both were impulse purchases, and am liking both); ordered three items (two of the new shadows, and Bardot cheek) from Colourpop.
Weekend plans: Nothing special, which I look forward to very much having had busy weeks and travel over the last two months.
Favorite Christmas movie: The Dr Suess Grinch movie, always; fond memories through childhood.

AB Avatar

LOL, I’ve been more excited than thoughtful yet about the trip. Certainly Tom Ford counter somewhere, as I want to check out recent releases (Spanish Flame especially); a run through of usuals (N. Marcus, Saks; Nordstrom Rack and regular) and also consignment stores for clothing; I’ve had a tough last couple of months so may allow myself to look at jewelry. Need to do some gift shopping too; I hear good things about a Christmas market there. I’m open to ideas and suggestions!

Julia Avatar

Oh I love the Christmas Market!! We go every year (although they just opened a second location in my suburb, so it’s tempting to just stay local). We always get a hot mulled wine in the little commemorative mug a buy a glass ornament, it’s tradition ๐Ÿ™‚ I would definitely recommend it if you have time and are dressed warmly.

Mellan is vogueing!

Weekend plans: Hair appointment tomorrow morning. I had wanted to dye my hair dark silver/grey but the stylist said she didn’t block off enough time for that much work. So I’ll probably talk to her about scheduling an appointment in January to see about changing my color. Planning on hitting TJ Maxx afterward to see if there’s any good makeup there since I love the W7 stuff I got there last time.

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: It’s a Wonderful Life.

Tammy Avatar

Michelle, I got the Deciem Hylamide Black Friday set too. I have been using the Subq Anti Age to pull in my vitamin C serum for a year now and I simply cannot be without it. Looking forward to testing the other Hylamide products.

Have you had a chance to play with Heritage Rouge? I need ideas for eyeshadow combos.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Tammy, finally used Heritage Rouge today. I used the MAC pigment in Dark Purple for my lid and Quarry for the transition. Then I used Heritage over the Purple on the outer half of my lid. I added a highlighter shade for the inner corners and accented with Scene (plus a highlighter for the brow bone). I think Heritage makes for a good shade t pop darker shadows in the same or similar color families. I’m sure it will be stunning as a stand alone. I may play with it again over the weekend to create more of a sunset eye look using oranges, reds, and a touch of yellow.

Sarah Avatar

Haul: A ton of MAC basic HG eyeshadows that oddly enough I’ve never purchased; MAC face and body in my winter color; 8 Hakuhodo eyeshadow brushes as an early birthday present to myself; BABY CLOTHES <3 <3, baby carseat, other random baby stuff.

Weekend: I've been fighting walking pneumonia at 6 months pregnant this week, so maybe some light house cleaning just to get on top of what didn't get done this week. Other than that, just recuperating. I'm exhausted. Oh, and getting our christmas tree.

Holiday Movie: Oh, I can't pick! Elf, because it's absurd, Miracle on 34th Street (the original), Harry Potter series, too, Rudolph…. But I really just like them all.

Christine Avatar

I feel you on the MAC permanent items, Sarah! I felt like that going through the permanent lipstick range. I knew of the colors, and many I had and wore before (mostly before blogging extensively), but I had forgotten!

Feel better, Sarah!! Get some rest!

Tracey E. Avatar

Hi Sarah, I caught pneumonia/walking pneumonia in late September, and finally was cleared of it mid-November after a second course of meds. My energy is back to previous levels though I still have a slight cough. It’s incredibly annoying, inconvenient, and takes its time getting out of your system. I feel for you. Hope you feel better soon!

Mariella Avatar

Sarah, I am sorry to hear you are battling pneumonia. I had it twice and both times, I was pregnant. Don’t worry about house cleaning and save your energy. After my 2nd time, I found it took weeks to get my strength back – I had to stop half way up the stairs in my house just to rest/catch my breath. So please don’t overdo things. (as an aside, ever since I started getting my annual flu shot, I’ve not had pneumonia since).

Sarah Avatar

Then you know what a nightmare it is to deal with with very little help from medication! I’m just starting to feel better, but all I’ve been able to take is benedryl and robitussin. My dr didn’t prescribe an antibiotic bcs it’s vital. Which probably explains why my recovery has been short (8 days later and starting to feel better) compared to others.

I have never appreciated being able to take a walk or a deep breath of fresh air even more in my life!

Mariella Avatar

Oh, I do know what it’s like without meds. I was on amoxycillin and came out in a rash (a very wise nurse friend – they often seem to know more than doctors – said it was probably a viral rash) but my doc was understandably concerned that it could have been an allergic reaction and they can’t do allergy testing when you’re pregnant. So he put me on sulfa and then I went red over my entire body in a very short time….just my feet, hands and face weren’t red; the rest of me looked like I’d been dipped in red food colouring. So I had to just “tough it out” but I tore the cartilage between my ribs from the force of the coughing. It was a pretty dreadful time. After my son was born, I went for allergy testing and while they can’t test for sulfa, I wasn’t allergic to amoxycillin or any penicillin derivatives and E was right – it was a viral rash!

Fran Avatar

Haul: I took advantage of some Black Friady/Cyber Monday sales. Paula’s Choice 25% off repurchases: the eye cream, Clinical Ultra-Rich face moisturizer (winter’s coming!), and AHA body lotion. Dermstore 30% off: a Mason Pearson hairbrush. Neiman Marcus $50 off $200 or more: SimpleHuman Sensor Mirror Pro (8″).

Weekend plans: nothing special, but I want to get outside more after several days of rainy weather here!

Favorite TV holiday movie: We always watch ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ starring Jimmy Stewart and A Christmas Story starring Peter Billingsley (in which Ralphie wants an official Red Ryder BB rifle). We always watch at least one version of A Christmas Carol, too ๐Ÿ™‚

Fran Avatar

I’m really excited! It just came in this enormous box. This should help me stay on track to get my space re-organized (I know I keep going on about this, but it really feels like a monumental job — one of those things, that, if I ever manage to get into the proper frame of mind, I’ll do and then be like “what, that’s what was overwhelming me for all that time?). I just have an awful lot of hobby-related stuff that I want to keep, because I cycle through my various hobbies every few years. Some of that kind of stuff you can really regret getting rid of. I even (kind of) regret getting rid of my son’s Legos, because now I could build some really cool playgrounds for the tiny hamsters with them! I’m a nut for knitting, crocheting, sewing embroidery (not that I’ve gotten very good at that yet), and jewelry-making, as well as cooking makeup artistry, but I don’t pursue them all at once. I also want to learn how to draw and take great photographs… you get the picture! I always have to be learning/polishing a couple of creative endeavors, so organization is key, and not something that comes naturally/easily to me. Anyway, my shiny new mirror is an excellent motivator for turning my dream of turning a corner of my room into a makeup and style studio a reality ๐Ÿ™‚

Christine Avatar

Yay! Hope you can get your corner going ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally went for a real vanity space, because I felt like it made me feel a little more inspired/more excited to play with makeup (I’m at the point now where I derive more joy from the reviewing/testing and posting those reviews part of the process than just playing). It should be well-worth the investment!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Which Mason Pearson did you get? I picked up the Handy brush when Beauty.com was going out of business. Now I can’t imagine not having one! Curious to hear what you think and, if you got a larger brush than I did, whether you think it would be worth it for me to pick up a second one.

Fran Avatar

Michele, I got the mixed boar + nylon bristle brush with retail price $150 (not sure how to differentiate the products otherwise) since all-boar bristle brushes just smooth the top of my hair — they don’t penetrate and actually brush it. It just came yesterday, and right now I have a ton of stiff product in my hair (IGK Down & Out Dirty Spray), so I’m waiting until my hair is clean to actually try it! So I’ll have to let you know later how much I like it, if it’s actually better than the other mixed-bristle brush I have, lol. I’ve had clients who swore by these brushes.

Pami Avatar

My mom has very fine, thin hair too, and several years ago I gave her the soft one that’s not mixed bristle, and she loved it. I felt that if it was good enough for The Queen, my mom deserves no less! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jennifer Avatar

Haul: Marc Jacobs lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (I can’t get enough of this color, it’s so flattering on me!) and Ciate Kiss Collective Mini Liquid Velvet trio (bought one for myself to try and one to give as a gift cause the packaging is adorable)
Weekend Plans: just planning on running a few errands and maybe finish Christmas shopping, we’ll see ๐Ÿ˜‰
Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie? Elf! I always make sure to watch this one every December

Erin Avatar

Haul: Hourglass’s new Palette just came in yesterday along with Mitchell and my 500 point Algenist set. I also got SubQ Eyes and Hand Chemistry Retin Oil earlier in the week. Loving the skincare so far from Deciem. Will bust into the makeup this weekend. I thought my VIB rouge blush would be full-sized, but it’s so tiny! I’ve bought so much stuff lately, I really need to swatch and review it all for my blog but I’m just so tired these days!

BTW where the hell are my sheets from Target!?!?! I ordered those a week ago.

Weekend Plans: Food shop Saturday, test products, hopefully write, game on Sunday morning. I might go for Sushi and a movie tonight. Not sure. I also need to iron out my Christmas spending.

Fave Movie for the Holiday: Elf is pretty huge, A Christmas Story, and I also like The Holiday.I think Rewatching Harry Potter sounds very Hygge. A concept I’m trying to add into my life right now.

As for Elroy: His nose is almost 100%, his tummy troubles are getting better, but the doof slipped in wet grass and is now limping. This dog, I swear to god. He’s got anti-inflammatories and pain pills from the last time he strained a muscle so hopefully that and weekend of rest will see him righted. He’s been a total PITA though cause all he wants is high-speed play on full puppy tilt 24/7.

Christine Avatar

Can’t wait to hear how the Hourglass palette works for you, Erin!

I was so happy to hear that his nose and tummy were doing better, but then you mentioned him slipping! Poor guy. Mellan only has two speeds: carcass and cheetah. They told me post-surgery that he might still be sleepy from sedation, but noooo, he was racing out of the doctor’s office and trying to run around at home immediately.

Erin Avatar

Elroy is the same way. I call it Turbo. I say “Who set the dog to Turbo again?” He’s had some messed up accidents in his little puppy life but man they have not slowed him down. And all of his accidents are due his own “turbo” or stupidity because he can’t stop running, jumping, or putting 17,097 balls in his mouth. No amount of training has ever broken the turbo. He can sit and stay or lay and stay for hours but the second you release him from a command, it’s over. Hurricane Elroy can’t be stopped. You can re-command him and he will stop but it’s almost impossible to get the words out cause you’re on the floor with 80 pounds of dog on you or he’s made it out of hearing range in the time it took you to react to his mad dash. I thought he’d slow down with age but we haven’t hit that level yet and he’s 7. I give him plenty of toys, mommy time, walks, serious running, and tons of attention. The lab/bc mix is just so full of energy. Luckily, he likes to be lazy too or I’d probably lose my sanity. When he doesn’t get his way long enough, he starts making sounds that sound like one would imagine a Yeti would. He’s such a weird dog.

Christine Avatar

Haha! We are VERY fortunate that Mellan has not managed to injure himself with his antics (and I say very fortunate at this point, because he has enough health issues from his bad genetic dice roll!), but I always get worried. When we moved into our first home, it had a straight shot staircase, and we did not have stairs like that in our apartments, but after his first bath, he DOVE down them and splayed out at the bottom. I think I lost five years off my life! He was totally fine, but it was a scary moment. I gated the stairs during bath time after that!!

kjh Avatar

A BC mix? My mother never let me get a BC…and I was offered a beaut, because one really ought not have a dog that’s smarter than you are….not to mention faster. BTs are more my speed. Just LOVE border terriers. I’m also interested in what you think about the HG. You are cooler and lighter than I am, but you do pinks and corals that look pretty dreaddy on me. I can’t do HG except in mood. But I like unspeakable and plenty of red and brown blush/lips. The first HG trio is so wrong for me, and Electra would look terrible. Euphoric would be ok, if it were highly colored, but not at the level that Christine got, more strobe than blush. I do wanted to like the alps and albs, and feel kind of like a phillistine for not liking them.

LindaP Avatar

Erin, Did you change my dog Cali’s name to Elroy? OMG, that is her to a T. She’s 7+ and a 3-mile run in the morning (OK, she’s trotting when I’m dying but still…), Chuck-It at lunch, and a walk after work is barely enough. She’s been like this since we got her at 12 weeks. She’s a Lab mixie too, and she’s barely slowed down. Smart, lovable, and full of energy. Super dog, but at times exhausting and relentless. I will say there have been glimmers of her slowing down over the past few month — just a little, but it’s there. Could it really be?! ๐Ÿ™‚

Erin Avatar

If Elroy hadn’t had his choking and dying incident this year he’d still be at that level too. He needs a few breaks during play because he was damaged in his esophagus. He’s still pretty relentless. I miss his indomitableness!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Did you get your Deciem order already? Do you like the SubQ? This is my first order of it (although i use their other products).

I think your Target sheets are with my bath order from them – mine’s stuck somewhere in Arizona. Hey Christine – maybe you can go find our stuff! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Amber Avatar

Haul: Lots of indies and Colourpop, admittedly mostly for other people.

Weekend plans: Relax mostly and get over this pesky bronchitis! I did all my Christmas shopping online and ALL of my purchases (barring 2) have shipped already! I need to plan who’s getting what so I can keep organized.

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: Probably A Christmas Story. It’s my dad and I’s tradition to watch it together every year….he knows most of the lines by heart, and last year I got him a Sexy Leg Lamp insulated drinking glass for Christmas. Other than that, my fiance and I are going to binge watch ALL the Marvel movies. :p

Amber Avatar

I’m mixing and matching, I bought several minis from Fyrinnae to split amongst my mom and 2 of my friends, and I did get the MAC Blue-Brown pigment that I’m going to de…er….pot into several smaller containers to split among the 4 of us. Hopefully without making a mess of having my cat interrupt the process. I just know that I won’t go through a full size pigment very fast, ESPECIALLY with all of my indie shines.

My friend from work is going to be getting a couple of the Colourpop shinies with her Fyrinnae ๐Ÿ™‚

Ginny Avatar

HAUL: Bit of a haul from MAC @25% off. Restock of my usual MSF Natural powder. Then got Lightscapade and Warm Soul. I really like the way the mineralize powders look on my skin–some of my fave products. Then they had a Gleamtones powder leftover from the Vibe Tribe collection that was 40% off so I grabbed that–looks like a mauvey color, I’m excited to try. Then I wanted to try the Cream Colour Base formula, so I just got Pearl to start.

WEEKEND: Birthday celebrations–for me!

FAVORITE HOLIDAY MOVIE: Christmas Vacation. Can’t be beat for me. I laugh just thinking about it.

Joyce Avatar

Haul: NuMe travel set, Too Faced White Chocolate Chip palette, Viva La Juicy fragrance set, Coastal Scents Revealed 1 palette, Kindle Fire HD 8

Weekend plans: catch up on lots of schoolwork, bake cookies for staff at my grandfather’s nursing home, church on Sunday. My husband is away for work so I’m super bored!

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: same as you! Harry Potter, The Holiday, Elf, Home Alone….! Omg does anybody remember Richie Rich’s Christmas Wish? Ha!

Joyce Avatar

Wow Christine, you have an excellent memory!

How long are your ColourPop order turnarounds? I ordered last Friday and nothing yet! I understand they’re probably super busy though.

Joyce Avatar

Hi Michele!

I would definitely say it is not worth your money. At $26, it’s a complete rip off for what it is. It’s worse than old-school $1 Elf palettes!

The shadows are really, really sheer and light. I will say though that the sparkly shades are really quite pretty over a base just for added sparkle.

I’m just so, so disappointed after months of waiting. The sneak peak photos the brand has been posting for months looked so promising.

Yvette Avatar

Haul: First ColourPop purchase and it was Kiss and Tell ultra glossy lip set. Not sure if I like it yet, the glitter in the glosses are big but the gloss isn’t sticky at all. I am impressed with their packaging and value

Weekend Plans: sister’s birthday

Holiday Movie: don’t have a favorite but we watch all the classics like Home Alone, Christmas story, How the Grinch stole Christmas, etc…

Off topic, this past Wednesday I was at Macy’s trying on some ABH lipgloss with the help of a SA when I saw a woman putting the same glosses directly on her lips. I was so grossed out I couldn’t try on more glosses and didn’t buy any either. I think I’m still traumatized!

Mariella Avatar

When I was sampling the Versicolour lipstains the other day, they all had the wands cut off! I was surprised (I don’t shop for glosses much, if at all, so hadn’t seen this before).
The SA said they cut them off for hygiene reasons but that the stains come with a wand (I wasn’t sure at all as I’d not seen these lipstains before). I guess MAC is doing that everywhere (I wonder if other companies are also…I haven’t noticed).

SUVA Cupcakes and Monsters and Neutral Necessity palettes as the last of my cyber/black Friday orders.
I wanted to also get the sample bag from Sephora and got Besame Noir Red. Go free shipping!

Weekend plans: Work, resumes…. wash and repeat.

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?:
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and The Ref. Also Nightmare Before Christmas but that one really lacking the Holiday spirit. lol

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

It will be my first time but I’ve been eyeing the brand for awhile now that one vlogger I trust myeyeshadowisodd tested them out.

They look good and in the same product quality line as Sugarpill and Saucebox(but haven’t tried theirs out because they are always sold out. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). They had a really good bundle for 40% all their current palettes but I have just enough to get the 2 larger ones for 30% off.

Haul: It Cosmetics face disk, Macademia hair masks
Lucky brand purse, Baggallini purse, micro usb, Uniqlo clothes, The Limited sweaters, ugly Christmas dress

Weekend plans: coffee date tonight, breakfast date tonight…my last hail Mary of the season lol

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: I don’t really have a favorite. I have been watching those cheesy Hallmark movies lol

Haul: I’ve gone a bit mad this week, considering I’m really supposed to be buying for others (which I did a-plenty) but the deals were so hard to resist. Last weekend, Shopper’s had their bonus points redemption and I got so much “free” stuff I can barely remember what I bought, except for backups of Clarins Super Restorative eye cream (I’ve already got 1 back up so now I’ve got a 2nd) and Jouviance Creme Magistrale. From The Body Shop, I got their Chamomile Cleansing Balm, which I love, a “value set” with both the Oils of Life oil and the Oils of Life Cream, 2 bottles of Shea Beautifying Oil (one to keep and one to gift), and a bunch of hand creams and body butters to give as gifts. Before MAC even had their 25% offer (wish I’d known), I finally treated myself to Fathoms Deep Extra Dimension eyeshadow and then after the 25% sign-up thing, I got the very last Spellbinder eyeshadow they had in the colour Mysterious Influence. Talk about good luck that they had it. I also picked up a new jar of Bare Study Paint Pot and they were giving a “free gift” – something I’ve never, ever experience before with MAC. I was “Am I hallucinating? Is this really a MAC store?” Anyway, they tossed in a Versicolour lip stain in a gorgeous red shade (I’ll have to check the name but it was also the last one in this lovely clear red shade; the other one I tried, in a shade called It’s Everlasting, was beautiful in the tube but almost colourless on my hand while the red one had a lovely sheer red “MLBB” aspect to it.

Whew – I think that’s all I got (but maybe not!)

Weekend plans: clear up some of the basement and DS2’s room (it’s filled with stuff that needs to go into the attic), go to the gym, get the winter tires put on my car (oh, the joys of a Canadian winter!)

Favourite Xmas movie – I honestly don’t think I have one. I hate the ones about dysfunctional families cooped up together or the ones where the family is so busy they LOSE THEIR CHILD (sorry if you love the Home Alone movies but I don’t think there’s anything funny about a family so wrapped up in themselves and so ineffective that they actually lose their child – and not just once). I guess if I had to choose a favourite, it would be The Bells of St. Mary’s (a real oldie) and that’s redeemed simply by the presence of Ingrid Bergman. And I guess I don’t absolutely loathe Love, Actually (good grief, I sound like such a Grinch!)

Christine Avatar

Ahh, Shopper’s! I know I’m in for a good haul from you when there’s a good points event going on there ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wow, a free gift! That’s awesome to hear. I do feel like MAC’s profits must be down (not that they aren’t doing well but maybe not as well) given the increased pressure from competing brands!

Mariella Avatar

When they dropped the prices for the pro pan eyeshadows, my first thought was “they’re really feeling the heat from the competition”. Now, all these “special deals”, a FREE GIFT (honestly, I was gob-smacked!) AND they’ve dropped the prices on their “good-byes” – it’s all good news for the consumer.

Apparently, Shoppers is going to be discontinuing their Optimum points program….it’s all very confusing language about how it “might” end Dec. 31 but members will have 90 days (or maybe 45) before their points disappear. I’ve still got several hundred dollars to spend in point so if they do end the program, I’ll be off to the SDM near me that carries Guerlain and kiss the last of my points good-bye with some more Meteorites and another bottle of LdeP foundation. But I think the chain will find their sales really dropping. Shopper’s is one of the most expensive (if not the most expensive) places to buy most drug store and household items – toothpaste, regular body wash, laundry detergent, etc. – and the primary reason I shop there is to accumulate points to redeem on high end cosmetics. I’ll buy the bulk of that stuff elsewhere if they scrap the points program.

Christine Avatar

Competition is good for sure! MAC has always shied away from GWPs, discounts, sales, etc. in the past (though I know they have participated more and more over the last three to five years), which is something you see with brands like Chanel, Tom Ford, and so forth but very rarely mid-end or high-end (Clinique, UD, Too Faced).

So sad to hear that Shoppers’ program is going away! That seemed like a really great program ๐Ÿ™

Katherine T. Avatar

Yep, I’m totally shocked by MAC’s 25% off, not including the 10% cash back for Cyber Monday. My jaws are still hurting from hitting the keyboard. And they’ve been sending me 5 emails a day about the sale, y’know just in case I forget. And a GWP??? Unheard of, I had to re-read your comment twice to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. And those discounted good byes are a steal. But agree, it’s all great. I think MAC is finally waking up and realizing they must be competitive.

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

I never buy enough from Shoppers to get points. Plus locally the makeup department doesn’t carry brands I’m interested in and I’ve cut back on drugstore makeup. Shoppers does have random good deals on drugstore makeup though but you never know when they have them.

The MAC price drop is promising. Sephora is also expanding and drawing more mall crowds.

Mariella Avatar

I’ve got 2 really good Shoppers near me that carry, between them, Guerlain, Benefit, Clinique, Korres, Shiseido, Clarins, PUR Minerals (I still love their face wash), Bioderma, Rodial, Lise Watier as well as Jouviance and Vasanti, two Canadian companies that make excellent skin care products (Vasanti has a scrub that is even better than the uber pricey Exfolikate from Kate Somerville. They also carry a wide assortment of fragrances, including Prada and – believe it or not – Paloma Picasso! So it’s been no hardship to run up the points. And then redeeming them is such fun. I do wish there was a store near me that carried Dior but the closest one is a highway drive away and that bit of the highway scares me.

Alice Avatar

Haul: MAC 25% sale – Star Trek pressed pigment in To Boldly Go and Trip the Light Fantastic powder in Strange New Worlds (hoping it’s not too orange for me, and if it is I’ll just display it!), spellbinder shadow in Blue Karma, nutcracker sweet lipstick in Leap of Delight, Select anniversary gift of a free eye shadow in Satin Taupe, and a bunch of samples. In the past MAC regular formula shadows have made my eyes itchy, so IDK if I’ll try it or if I’ll give it to someone as part of a holiday gift.

Weekend plans: Work on the house. Check out the new Meijer that opened up down the road.

Favorite holiday movie: Die Hard! We don’t travel for Christmas so our tradition is to make a huge brunch and spend the day in our pajamas marathoning the Die Hard movies ๐Ÿ™‚

Kris Aleli Avatar

Haul: Smith cosmetics brushes and Zoeva brushes.

Weekend plans: spend time with the hubby. This is my first full weekend of Friday-Sunday that i am actually off the full days because my work week ended after Wednesday night shift and Thursday was my night shift recovery day. Also, I am looking forward to racing a 10-mile run this Sunday with my sissy and mom and it will be the first race that we’re all running together!

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: The Grinch!

Anne Avatar

Haul: From the Sephora gift card thingy I finally got the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette, along with one of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duos in Bronze/Pepper. I placed an order from Charlotte Tilbury (had planned one for Dec. 1 for a while) and picked up the Film Noir Nights set (Opium Noir looks to die for!) and the Matte Revolution lipstick in the shade “The Queen”.

Weekend plans: No clue. Try to get a package together for my sister and hopefully decorate the tree

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: Oh that’s tough. I usually just watch Harry Potter around this time…

Anne Avatar

I did some retail therapy today post-doc appointment (it didn’t go well, again) and got some MAC stuff (I always say I’m just going to look, and I never do…)- a Pro Longwear eyeliner in Devotion and a Spellbinder shadow in Dynamically Charged. I went by Origin’s to check out eye creams for my mom and ended up getting one of the holiday candles (the Neroli & Lemongrass one) and their “Feel Good Hug” (one of those heat-up-able body wrap things with herbs in it) in the Lavender, Lemon, Orange version. I also went to Anthropologie to look for stuff for my sister and got a soap (Lemon Verbena ftw) and two candles as well. So a pretty decent day even with the crappy beginning.

Indya Avatar

Haul: I really hope I don’t buy anything else unrelated to my trip to England and Paris in a couple of days!
Weekend Plans: Packing, long-haul flight
Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: I have a hard time committing to watching movies, but if I had to be objective, probably The Grinch Who Stole Christmas! Love looking at his face lol

Lea Avatar

Haul: I did well with the small break in my no/low buy, but the deals were too good to pass up. Here goes…
SpaceNK – ReVive Moisture Renewal Cream (I missed this sooo much) and Rodial X-Treme Acid Rush Peel (discount based on purchase total)
Sisley – Phyto-Lip Twists in 17 Mat and Balm 16 (ordered separately for two skincare gift boxes plus samples)
Neiman Marcus – La Mer The Powder, Tata Harper Le Honey Blossom Mask, Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist in 16 Balm (yep, another!) and Tom Ford Highliner in Slate (discount on purchase amount)
Nordstom – Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Bound, Laura Mercier Lip Parfait in Iced Pomegranate and GlamGlow Poutmud Tin in Love Scene, plus to sampler bags (10 points offer)
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Shadows! Dusty Rose, Pose, Not Today, Macaroon, Bone, Blanc, Day Rate, Buon Fresco, Sateen, Red Earth, Sangria, Victorian, Labyrinth, Rosette, Plum Smoke, Aubergine, Denim Smoke, Night Sky, Gleam, Lace and then my first Glow Palette in Sun Dipped. A few of the shadows I got dupes on so I could leave a permanent eye palette in my travel bag and frankly as back-ups since the price was so good.

Weekend Plans – Relaxing tomorrow and then packing. I’m headed to NYC (for work, don’t get too excited), but I will be working an event at Saks Sunday night at the 5th Avenue store and will get a bonus 20% discount for that; so I’ll be considering my purchases on the train ride. Hubs is working all day tomorrow, so we’ll only get to see each other in passing which stinks.

Favorite Holiday Movie – Definitely Elf, but bizarre family tradition also entails the annual watching of Godfather and Goodfellas. Don’t ask how this became a holiday tradition; I have no idea whatsoever! I just go with it.

Lea Avatar

Ooops – I forgot Tatcha! I got a new Dewy Skin Mist and then built my own mini set with the cleansing oil and two mini skin mists. I didn’t realize the minis were refillable, so I really only needed to get one for my bag, but both will get used so no worries.

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh awesome! I’ve been eyeing that Tatcha mist forever, but still have a few other brands to finish up first. But I needed a travel size mist for my purse really bad, as the cold air sucks moisture from my face. Glad to hear it’s refillable too. I’m ordering it

Lea Avatar

Depending on what size you want, the full size isn’t unreasonable to carry around; the mini is in my small (but overloaded) purse right now for my train to NYC at the crack of dawn. I was definitely pleased at the refill potential. The other good small size I carry is the SK-II mid day refreshing spray. That one is a good portable size.

Lea Avatar

I’ll definitely report back and let you know. I’m not a huge loose powder (or powder in general) connesour, but I have been trying them out in the t-zone during this past summer and a bit under the eyes to see if it helps brighten and stop some smudging I’ve been getting. I’ve been using the ByTerry hyaleuronic powder and I really like it, but I had planned on getting the La Mer right as they pulled it for reformulation. I know there’s been a lot of hubbub about the smaller size and price increase, so we’ll see. On the positive side, I hear it has less pigment than before so it should work better on fairer skins by being more towards translucent without truly being there. The majority of reviews I heard have been if you had the original, you’re not going to be in total love – it’s not bad, just not the same and then add in price and size grumbling. If you’ve never used it, you’ll love it and it’ll be the only size, price product comparison so theoretically it will bother you less.

One YT’er I’ve been watching g a lot lately – Puffin’s Wife – gave a good honest overview that I paraphrased from. She’s a professional MUAwith some serious skills but she rock a super edgy look with the most beautiful, intricate details. You should check her out – come for the pompadour, admire the incredibly designed tats and leave with a few new trick on your game!

I’m probably going to test a few ways – versus the ByTerry, my Tom Ford Luminous powder, and throw in meteorites, Laura Mercier baked highlight, one or two Hourglass powders and Bobbi Brown face brightener (nude colors) if I need to try to match the glow effect. The Meteorites, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercies were all shopped out of the old folks home in my beauty closet. The Hourglasses have been more in the boarding school section. Everyone is back at the main house playing happy families now lol

LindaP Avatar

I agree that Puffins Wife is one of the best YT makeup bloggers out there. She’s like Christine on YT ๐Ÿ™‚ in that I tend to listen to her as someone honest and not full of BS. Her skills are there, I love her vibe, and she’s clear and instructive. Mother of four too!

Lea Avatar

I think it is quite good, just kind of a bummer for the original die-hards. It was definitely a strong pro review, just a preferance for the one they fell in love with.

Linda – I stumbled on Puffin’s Wife randomly, but took to her quickly. I like how edgy she is even though that’s not my look. If I could rock that hair, I totally would! I’m still awed by her being a mother of four; for one, she’s tiny and second, she doesn’t look old enough to have had four! She’s definitely extremely skilled and I like her frankness on products. She’s definitely a Christine on YouTube plus bonus tutorials!

Nancy T Avatar

Love doggie and kitty smiles!!! Yep, cute goofball! ?

Haul: This morning I ordered Viseart Theory Palette in Chroma and Tom Ford Foil Lipstick in Seadragon! I just hit Rouge! And got the Nars Blush that they’re giving out to Rouge, I have no idea what name the shade is, but it looks nice! Then I hit Colourpop about a half hour ago and ordered: Hello Kitty Mom’s Apple Pie and Supercute lipgloss, Furry lipgloss, Wink Ultra Satin Lipstick, Tinsel, Koosh and Mittens eyeshadows, plus Cat Nap and Puppy Love eyeshadows, because cats AND dogs!
But accidentally forgot to add Bijou. My brain was in a super fog from my sleep getting broken up badly, so it slipped.

Weekend plans: Food shopping, laundry, hair, meeting on Sunday. Going to be a busy one!

Favorite holiday/winter movie: Sound Of Music! Yes, to this very day this movie brings back to me the first time my Mom brought me and my childhood BFF to a movie when we were little girls. This movie has even MORE relevance right now. Winter is a rough time to do what they did at the end.

Nancy T Avatar

Thank you, Christine! Really never thought I’d ever hit Rouge, didn’t even realize how close I was until I received an email after the VIB sale, and my jaw dropped because I had no idea! Got to try Seadragon and Aperture on in NM last night, and fell super hard for Seadragon! But they didn’t have either lipstick in stock, so with $20 off at Sephora, I just had to!

Tammy Avatar

NARS Goulue (the free gift) is a beautiful mauve blush! I wear it every week. I am excited to hear how you like Seadragon; it will probably be my next purchase.

LindaP Avatar

I hope you got Goulue as the blush and that it works for you. I just love it. It’s what made me realize that berry colors are actually nice on me and that I don’t have to stick to corals.

And thanks to you, Nancy, I’m checking out UD Rapture tomorrow. That Sephora reward is burning a hole in my pocket!

Hope you love Chroma — check in about it. I have four Viseart palettes now and am over the moon. But Minx keeps calling…and calling. ๐Ÿ™‚ But truly, I don’t need any additional eyeshadows, and that’s the “for better or worse” with Viseart. There’s kinda no need to look futher.

Nancy T Avatar

Linda and Tammy, Goulue is a beauty from what I’ve seen, so I’ll be excited to try it out!
Glad to be a UD Rapture Afterglow enabler! It looks good on warmer and cooler complexions, so most can wear it.
I actually came *very* close to getting Minx instead, but then realized that if I did, I’d never buy TF Honeymoon…..eventually, that is.

Katherine T. Avatar

Nancy, I know you’re really hot on that MAC x Mariah Carey collection. Heard that MAC is launching early online –Dec 5 (no time given) for MAC Select members that are at the Devoted level (have spent $150 or more) and Obsessed level ( $500 or more). It will be open to everyone else online Dec 8, then in stores Dec 15. Given that everyone’s been buying MAC stuff during their big sale, I’m thinking there’s going to be a lot of people who qualify for at least Devoted level. I also noticed that during the big launches, their website is wonky, sometimes hard to find certain products, as they don’t show up under the collection (ie Selena Techno Cumbia powder). If you have hard time, best way is to type in name of product, and use search bar to find it. I’m hoping to snag that My Mimi powder and that I’m So OCC lipstick. Good luck and happy hauling!

Nancy T Avatar

Thank you SO much for this update, Katherine! I will be checking their site after midnight tonight and again around their usual 8 a.m. time, although I know it can be as late as 10 a.m. in recent launches. Possibly taking Pacific Standard time into consideration. I am in the second tier, Obsessed, I believe? Tonight may be a “Sleepless In Scottsdale” night, LoL!

Haul: I bought more sunblock, (neutragena clear skin SPF 60) because I finished my old tube and cut it open and scraped it out ๐Ÿ˜› I made an order on beyond buckskin (it’s a native American jewelry and clothing website! It’s 100% GENUINE native made!) And got some new earrings for the winter solstice “party” I’m going to in my towns native American center.

My package with my KVD concealer, the two colourpop highlights, Nillionaire eye shadow, and LAX liquid lipstick should be in by tonight too!!!

Weekend plans: I had a biopsy on monday the 28th, and they removed part of my tumor. So I’m still recovering from that pretty invasive surgery!! The swelling and bruising is almost gone so I’m happy!! And I’m wearing red lipstick today to celebrate December!

Favourite holiday movie: The Grintch who stole Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street! Two family favorites!!

My current blush brush is 10+years old and it’s started to shed) eye shadow in Trax (it’s a purpley colour) studio fix powder plus foundation (I’m out of my current powder foundation) 217 brush (need I explain?) Haul: UD Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Distortion, UD blush in Rapture, Anastasia Lip Glosses in Venom, Metallic Rose, and Runway Red, Anastasia Modern Renaissance, Viseart Bijoux Royal palette, Viseart Theory in Minx, Lorac Pro 2 (from the HSN re-release), and UD Vice Lipstick in Mrs. Mia Wallace. I hadn’t had a haul in quite a while, so I had some catching up to do!
Weekend plans: Christmas shopping! Also, I have DIY projects for making personalized stockings, and I need to make a little fake mantel with hooks to hang stockings (though oddly not the same stockings I’ll be making).
Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: We too re-watch the Harry Potter movies every season. Haha. We space it out over the weekends between Halloween and Christmas (with a few other things sprinkled in).

Risa Avatar

Thanks! So far, I’ve used each one once. Lol. Love all of them so far, but I have an exceptional love for the Viseart palettes. I already loved Cashmere and Dark Mattes, but I’m loving the muted jewel tones of Bijoux Royal. That green! Used Minx just today, and the copper in there is scrumptious as well.

LindaP Avatar

Haul: CRAZY. IN. LOVE with my Chikuhodo Z-5 eyeshadow brush! I wanted a bigger, more substantial shader, but this is so much more! You can do your entire eye look with this beautiful baby! Unless you need to be super precise, it can be one and done. The softness, it’s performance — absolutely fantastic. That’s it for this week.

Weekend plans: My husband is just back from Aruba and we have no idea what we’re doing. He needs to organize new office space, the holidays are coming, we have no food. So it’s going to be one of those.

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: White Christmas. I did dance growing up and I could never, ever get enough of Vera Ellen in that movie. Still can’t. Fabulous dancer. The rest of the movie is just OK. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tammy Avatar

I will have to check out that brush. Linda, did you comment recently that you wish there were a place where you can get Viseart eye look ideas? I struggle with creating combinations and I now find looks online or in videos, and then just use the most similar Viseart colors in place of the shadows being used in the look.

LindaP Avatar

DO! look at the brush, Tammy! If you decide to get it, I hope you like it as much as I do. I think it’s fantastic. I also ordered the Chikuhodo foundation brush and the Z series contour. I’ll check in on those too. Wish I would have started with these and WG (Chikuhodo better, IMO). Would have saved me a ton in the long run. I swear you need far fewer.

You know, what you said about Viseart — telepathy. That occurred to me just yesterday. I’ll get my bearings a bit better looking at quads and replicating. That’s so, duh, obvious now. Then again, I went totally rogues just putting this and that together yesterday and it looked great! (But that approach, before work, could go so terribly wrong.) ๐Ÿ™‚

Haul: My partner and I threw down for nearly 30 high end perfume samples! I’ve been really excited to try Surge Lutens, we both love Etat Libre and Juliette Has a Gun, there are several French and Italian brands that are new to us, just a LOT of stuff. Our idea is to make a kind of advent calendar but counting down to New Years cause it marks the end of the holiday season and neither of us are Christian. It also happens to be our anniversary. We’re still working out how to make the calendar itself though. Lol. If I can’t come up with something better I’m going to put the samples in origami stars and flowers. I would also like to incorporate rainbow Christmas lights somehow, we’ll see…

Plans: Try to see friends, work, nothing unusual. ๐Ÿ™‚

Favorite holiday movie: Lord of the Rings, Die Hard, Harry Potter. I think I’m a bigger fan of holiday episodes of tv shows though. Bob’s Burgers does all wonderful holiday episodes (Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, ALL of them!) and Arrested Development and Always Sunny tend to do well too. Also looking forward to watching the Christmas Bojack Horseman episode, that show has been a new favorite of mine this year.

Blue Avatar

Santal Majuscule and Fille En Aiguilles. I tried to limit myself to only 2-3 of brands that were completely new to me to limit total misses. I’m so excited, I’ve been waiting to smell Fille En Aiguilles for a long time.

Do you love Musc Ravageur? The name stands out in my memory because Kafkaesque’s review when I first started reading her blog piqued my interest! It sounds like a wonderful scent. ๐Ÿ™‚

Christine Avatar

I enjoy it a lot, and it’s a little more different from my usual scents. What is funny about it is that initially, I am not a fan (a little sharp) but after 20-40 minutes, it’s sweeter and spicier–more of the clove, vanilla, and musk come together–which I love!

Fille En Aiguilles is amazing! I love Kafkaesque, she is a dear friend, though I count myself blessed that I cannot smell synthetics like she can, LOL!

Like lutens. Prefer creed: the unisex and men’s. The women’s, not so much. Erolfa, himalaya, bois Portugal, green Irish tweed, silver mt water. Lots of very me stuff there. Gotta sample creed. For women’s and unisex, I like annnick goutal, but mostly way old classics.

Blue Avatar

I’ll check Creed out. Thank you for the recommendation! I love unisex and masculine fragrances, and to me they convey poise and sensuality just as much, sometimes more, than really femme fragrances.

Annick Goutal is a completely new name to me, and I’m really enticed by the idea of old classics. Aside from a distinctly un-cool love affair I have with Angel, I tend to like my girly scents stylistically more retro anyway. Do you have any particular favorites?

Blue Avatar

Thank you! If it’s even remotely successful, I’ll post a picture. ๐Ÿ™‚

This was from Twisted Lily, and my first time ordering from them. The order actually just went out today, so we’ll see how it goes… In the past I’ve limited myself to easier to find companies and gotten them in store at Nordstrom and Sephora, plus a handful of sample sets for sale at Sephora’s website. In the future I’m planning on trying out Surrender to Chance and Lucky Scent too.

Have you tried the Matte Chocolate Chip palette at all yet? I don’t expect to have it until late December (when it launches again – I missed it on TF’s website)!

I have never heard of Scarlet and Julia before – would you recommend them heartily?

Dianne Avatar

I love this Mellan photo! I don’t know why, but I think it’s so cute when dogs show their bottom teeth.

Haul: Becca Blushed with Light blush palette because I couldn’t pass up the deal. I also grabbed some of the Sephora brushes in the sale section: #56 in the pretty Mara Hoffman design, #10 crease brush, and #21 concealer brush, and a glittery gold and pink Formula X polish. I mostly got the last three items for the holiday sample bag with the Cover FX Custom Enhancer drops.

Weekend plans: Finish wrapping presents! And hopefully relax and do some reading.

Favorite holiday movie: The Family Stone, even though I love Harry Potter! Rewatching the series around Christmas seems like a fun tradition.

Haul:MAC Soft Frost and my 4th Nightmoth lip pencil. Smash box primer oil and pore blurring primer. Weekend plans: hitting a couple of craft shows in the big city of Missoula.
Christmas movie: none

Tammy Avatar

I wish Nightmoth looked good on me. It turns into a mess on my mouth, I have to take it off immediately after applying it. It’s probably my ageโ˜น๏ธ๏ธ

Haul: Zoeva Plaisir box (Caramel Melange, OMG!), Lip Velour in Faint of Heart and Lip Lacquer in Crushed Bloom, Marc Jacobs air blush in Lines & Last Night (which is a gift for someone), Sephora Intense gel eye pencil in Copper, which is unlike anything I already have and Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lippies in Verbena and Eggplant.

Weekend plans: Babysitting my 11 month old niece on Friday night, she is sleeping over for the first time ever. Other than that, just chilling.

Fave holiday movie: Die Hard is the best Christmas movie ever, of course.

Genevieve Avatar

What a gorgeous, happy photo of Mellon!
Haul: Some Elizabeth Arden Ceramide lippies in a red brick and goldie shade.
Backups of Milani’s Cinnamon Spice and Candied Toffee shade
Clarins Super Restorative foundation in Linen 01 – which is now discontinued, but a great shade and finish for me.

Weekend plans: Went to the Red Hill Market this morning – very big, lots of arts, crafts, olive oils and gourmet food products there.
Looking after Little Pud (aka Lachlan), my dreamboat grandson whilst his parents take his older sister Olivia to a Wiggles Concert – she is a great Emma fan and has the whole costume. BBQ dinner to prepare.
Hopefully a lazy day tomorrow…
Favourite holiday movie: I don’t really have one.

Haul: Bioderma Hydrabio H20 from Black Friday (2 500ml + 2 100ml for $33!), Tarte Maracuja Oil, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation in Fair Neutral, and Tarte Swap Queen palette.
Weekend plans: Putting together Ikea furniture. I put together the Alex Unit with 9 drawers today (for all of my beauty products) as well as two little Brimnes nightstands that look like toy ovens. King Brimnes bed tomorrow!
Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: I love Christmas in Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck. She is a vintage equivalent of a phony blogger (magazine articles). It is from the 1940s and the clothes/style is fantastic!

I’ve been “good” other than my Tom Ford Holiday buys, no other make up binges, so I went a bit nutty this week:

Beautylish:
Sisley Paris Intense Mascara
Kjais Weis Highlighter
Kevin Aucoin Lip Kit in Minimalist
May Lindstrom the Problem Solver
May Lindstrom The Honey Mud
Viseart Sultry Muse palette
Smith and Cult Gloss, thought I’d try it the colour was super cute.

Neimans had a clutch and a gift card event. I’m a geek for their nice samples, and this one looked good, and the gift cards I love:
Tom Ford Creme Conque Lip Foil
Tom Ford Gloss
Tom Ford Palette in Honeymoon
La Prairie loose powder
Lancer the method cleanse
Lancer the method nourish
Nest Candle in Holiday or whatever gold Xmas one it is, I buy it every year, it’s not over priced, burns well and smells beautiful.
Marc Jacobs peridot eyeliner, love the colour
Tom Ford Extreme Mascara
Marc Jacobs Taboo Mascara kit

I think that’s it, it’s not all for me, some are beauty gifts for my hairdresser and other people I love.

I baked 2 Christmas cakes, I know most North Americans hate them, but a proper cake, with quality fruit, soaked in a cup of scotch for 48hrs made with lots of butter and spices etc is a thing of beauty. It’s not those plastic, proxy things sold in grocery stores called” fruitcakes” . I’m making shortbread tomorrow, maybe a few mince pies, which are nicely pickled with brandy, good old English recipes!!

LaMaitresse Avatar

Delia Smith, she’s a legend in the U.K. or Lady MacDonald makes a gorgeous one with lots of booze, which I like. I’ve been making them for 20 Years so I kind of combo both since they are both fairly similar, except Lady MacDonald uses more whiskey lolz, a lady after my heart!! You have to soak that fruit for 48 hours so they absorb all that lovely whiskey, and don’t use a really good bottle, just a decent blended whiskey is fine. I once used single malt and the cakes were funky to say the least. One of my fathers eccentric friends adored them…..

LaMaitresse Avatar

I can email you my recipe, since I just realized that British cooking times are way off, I take my cakes out around 2.45 hours even though I think Delia says 4 hours, the cakes would be cardboard hell if they were in that long! She’s either using an AGA oven or it’s an altitude issue. Plus I switch the fruit a bit, she calls for a pound of currants, which no one likes in my family and I use Thompson raisins or plain old Sun made, and these cakes have been on the request list by about 10 expat families for over a decade. Just wanted to let you know. My email is feroza.ahmad@yahoo.com if you want the proper recipe!

Love Smith & Cult glosses! You never see them talked about though. I’ve accumulated quite a few. Which color of Smith & Cult and Tom Ford Gloss did you get?

LaMaitresse Avatar

Fade the Sun for the Smith and Cult, and it’s the lip lacquer for Tom Ford that is clear but has the pearl glimmer, I love that effect on its own or over lipsticks. I’ve been wanting it for while and I like how I can put a little blob on the back of my hand or a palette, maybe it’s the neat freak in me but I hate getting the doe foot dirty with my lipstick. Crazy I know! ?

Lea Avatar

Fade the Sun is pretty; my two faves are Now Kith and Life in Photographs. I just love the texture of them – balm/gloss hybrid. I also have the sparkle gloss from TF and it’s perfect for layering. I need to use it more than I do. I don’t like mixing colors directly on a doe foot either; it’s not just you. The plastic tips like on the Ford are okay, but not on brushes or doe foots.

LaMaitresse Avatar

You are so my new best best beauty friend! Do you clean those little doe feet with micellelar water just to keep the gloss perfect like me, or are you normal? I must tell you that Sisley mascara is beyond perfection, I only spend that sort of money 2x a year, present from the dogs, they have good taste and deep beauty budgets lolz!!!!

Haul: WnW Art in the Streets 5 pan palette, which I found cheap at Walgreens.

Weekend plans: Cleaning, Christmas parade, rock and gem show, and the uphill battle of forcing my boys to finish their science projects.

Favorite Christmas movie: A Christmas Story, forever.

Haul: Saks Canada promo: TF Nude Dip, Shimmer Shot in Spin Spin Sugar, L&B Drake, and Aperture lip foil, Chanel waterproof eyeliner in Agape and Erable; Nordstrom: Bobbi Brown Dusty Pink Art Stick and lip gloss bundle; Bobbi Brown (30% off): Moisture Rich Foundation. Other Thanksgiving weekend orders en route from Bloomingdales and Saks.

Weekend Plans: Going to see the symphony’s Christmas Spectacular on Saturday. This is an annual must for us as it brings together musicians, 3 choirs, and 2 soloists, and ends with an audience singalong (Santa hats encouraged!). It’s also about to get very cold and snowy, so time to pull out the winter clothes, boots, etc. and pack away the last of the late summer/fall clothing.

Favorite holiday movie: Miracle on 34th Street, black & white version. We’ll watch It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf, a Charlie Brown Christmas and the like.

Lulle Avatar

Haul: I didn’t buy anything for Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but I ordered Ole Henriksen the Truth Serum with vitamin C today with Sephora’s loyalty reward discount.
Weekend plan: I just want to sleep, I’ve been really tired!
Favorite Holiday movie: I like watching movies I loved in my childhood, like Star Wars, the Goonies, or epic movies like the Lord of the Rings series.

Anna Avatar

Haul: Didn’t get anything this week but don’t think I posted about recent hauls. I got the Estee Lauder night repair serum about two weeks ago. Never used that before but lines started to show so figured I’ll give it ago. That came in a box with an eyecream and a facecream in smaller samples plus I got a GWP bag with more samples. After two weeks use, lines still show but nothing bad has happened with skin so I will use it up. A bit of glow has happened though so might be doing something.
I repurchased the Clarins face oil. Love that.
Also I found a HG lip balm! By accident really as I always buy whatever lip balms in supermarkets. But when I got my skincare the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm was on 50 % sale. I had a crack in lip from dryness and figured “lets try it”. Put it on at night. Woke up with healed lip in the morning. Will continue using that.

Weekend plans: Cleaning and relaxing.

Holiday movie: I actually really like the Home Alone movie (the first one). I probably watch it once every christmas.

Kiss & Make-up Avatar

What a cute photo, heheheh ๐Ÿ™‚

Haul: MAC x Mariah Carey goodies! And I ordered some clothes online.

Weekend plans: Yesterday I did my very first Escape Game was fun! Had dinner with friends after. Today my husband and I are celebrating something. With ‘something’ still being a secret ๐Ÿ˜‰

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: I’m not a holiday movie type of person at all I’m afraid!

Alecto Avatar

Haul: A bunch of Aromaleigh shadows, blushes and highlighters from their Black Friday sale.

Weekend plans: Drawing — I enrolled in an online drawing course that started last Sunday and I’m already four days behind. [exasperated sigh]

Whatโ€™s your favorite holiday movie?: Don’t have one. ๐Ÿ™ I used to watch A Christmas Story every year for about 5 or 6 years, but I fell out of that “habit” (even though I never lost my fondness for it).
