Free for Haul Friday, Volume #345
Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂
- Haul: Tarte summer/fall launches, MAC Lipsticks (fingers crossed those arrive today!!)
- Weekend plans: We’re going to do brunch on Saturday to avoid some of the business of Father’s Day on Sunday, I think. Wish my dad a happy father’s day remotely! I expect to spend most of the weekend sorting through and organizing my to-review products.
- Last album you had on repeat?: Beyonce Lemonade
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
This week’s Mellan photo…
Haul: Nothing. Just using things that need more love like the Shu Uemura Shu palette (which is by the way back in stock!!!)
Weekend plans: Going to a Sleeping Beauty ballet hopefully on Saturday if I’m not too tired & then dinner on Sunday with the family
Last album you had on repeat?: Nick Carter All American
That shu uemura palette is an indulgence!
If I had to use one neutral palette for the rest of my life, then it would definitely be the Shu one. I got it when it was less and with a discount, but even now I’d still pay the full current price for it. Also love how none of the shades are limited, and I can buy a single if I need to.
Have a Z with 5 mugs, 5 shus (blush.) big love there. One is an old shu in the exhibit a family, one a dark puce. That z is out all the time now. How do you think the brand has changed since he passed? Those 2 shades are wilder than anything UD ever wrought!
I haven’t tried too much from Shu to really say how the brand has changed. I think all brands need to evolve over time whether or not the original people are still with the brand or not.
Haul: I have been contemplating Nars Orgasm for a long time, so I finally caved for the LE large pan at Sephora. It’s an easy winner for me, with my medium skintone and my love of shimmer 🙂
Weekend plans: We are replacing and painting the trim in our house, so helping my husband with that.
Last album you had on repeat?: Florence + The Machine “Lungs” – we went to see their show last weekend (so good!) and that album is my favorite, so I’m revisiting it!
Happy to hear you’re enjoying your new blush, Julia!
Love the pic, you should blow it up and hang on a wall, Mellan looks deeeep in thought there!
*Haul – Diorshow Maximizer 3D Triple Volume lash primer, free sampler of 24 UD Vice lipsticks from Sephora, and yes, I ordered it to get the sampler, because ULTA didn’t send me anything despite being Platinum!
*Weekend – way overdue for a haircut, swatching at local stores, relax and catch up on sleep (work’s been crazy)
*Album – I don’t really do albums, just singles
I should get a hair cut, too, lol! Thanks for the reminder 😉
Can’t wait for you to try the sampler of shades!
Yep, me too! There are so many lip colors that I need to try on my lips to see if they work or not, and there’s no way I’m using any of those super gross store testers on my lips, no matter how “sanitized” they might be. I was once at a Tom Ford counter, wanted to try the lipstick in Malik, and the SA was trying to hand the tester to me, but she accidentally dropped it on the floor, where it hit BULLET FIRST, and rolled around all over the floor right in front of the display where a zillion people had walked by. She picked it up, wiped it off with a napkin, and sprayed it with alcohol, and told me it was clean. No way, I ran away!
Gross 🙁 Testers gross me out now in general!
Katherine, I have been mad at Ulta all week for not sending me one either! I don’t know why some platinum members (like my sister) seem to get more and better perks. Her.
I know right??? I get emails all the time about Platinum perks/points/sales, so they should’ve sent a sampler. Reader Michele suggests that you call ULTA, and they might mail a sampler to you or an e-gift card if they are out. Good luck!
How do you like the Dior primer? Call Ulta Customer Service – they should have sent you the UD sampler! If they don’t have any more they’ll most likely give you a small e-gift card.
I’m testing the Dior lash primer this weekend and will report back. Thanks for the tip on Ulta, will call them and see what I can get! And make sure I’m on their “perks list”
Haul: MAC Pearl Blossom (love), Tarte Opening Act Lash Primer (to use with Urban Decay Perversion mascara, as recommended by a Temptalia reader–a great combination!), and UD Spectrum Palette, Gwen Stefani Palette and MUFE Colors You Crave Palette (all three are gifts for my daughter and grand daughter for upcoming birthdays).
Weekend plans: Smoking brisket for Father’s Day! I am so excited to make brisket for first time. We are going to serve this with homemade mac n cheese (swoon), baked beans, green beans, fresh strawberries, and blueberry cake. I bought my husband a really nice sports jacket from Banana Republic for Father’s Day. I think he’s going to love it!
Current album on repeat: GEMS Kill the One You Love.
Which gift is for your daughter, which is for your grand daughter?
Best of luck on your brisket, Tammy! What’s your recipe for homemade mac ‘n’ cheese?
My daughter has an even deeper skin tone than mine, so I am excited to give her the Spectrum palette, which I have and love. My grand daughter went through all my eye shadow palettes when she was at my house and went crazy when she saw the Colors You Crave palette, so when it went on sale I picked it up. Her skin tone is fair and neutral, so I thought the Gwen Stefani palette would give her some good options. This is her first year for make up, she is 11 years old and plays with Mom’s Lorac palettes all the time. I let her mother start with make up early too, as long as she used it tastefully. My grand daughter and I have been going on Sephora “dates” to play with make up for years. We are now on our third generation of beauty obsession!
Aww, that is so lovely, Tammy! I love hearing stories like this 🙂
I’ve been making homemade macaroni and cheese for 30 years, I’ve tried many recipes, but this one is hands-down the best I’ve ever had!

Thank you!
Pearl Blossom is so pretty!
It truly is!
I second that! So pretty, easy and foolproof!
Haul- Jack Black lip balm, Lancome oil cleanser, moisturizer, blush
Weekend- beaching it on Sunday
Album- none, I’m too Pandora-shuffle addicted to stick with one artist through a whole album.
I’m wearing some Jack Black Lip Balm this very second, haha!
Have a blast at the beach!
It is the BEST lip balm I’ve ever tried. I got my husband the moisturizer/sunscreen and wound up using it all myself, too!
Haha! I don’t know if there’s been a Jack Black product I didn’t enjoy. My husband uses the daily moisturizer with SPF as well – I like it, because it’s got a higher-end feel (smoother, more refined, not as heavy) but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, since you can get it jumbo sizes/sets.
I want to get into Pandora-shuffle as I’m stuck on radio and honestly they repeat the same songs too often through the day. lol
I have and love both Pandora and Spotify. With Pandora, I can listen to old favorites and find out about new artists that make similar music that I also like, then I use Spotify to check out the rest of the new artists’ music. Plus, I love having playlists I make myself for relaxing and drifting off to sleep, and playlists with no vocals, or at least no vocals in a language I understand, so I can listen to music while I read.
Huile douceur? Good stuff!
Haul: The new version of Clarins Fix Makeup; a new jar of Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder, a Sephora twist up pencil liner in black (the one without glitter so it’s waterline safe)
Weekend plans: tomorrow evening, a backyard bbq party with teacher friends (and significant others) at our Dept. head’s house, so I’m making a gluten free dessert (one of the women can’t eat gluten); gym tomorrow morning and on Sunday, we’re going to our daughter’s city, to the cafe where she works on Sundays, to celebrate Fathers Day there.
I don’t think I’ve had an album on “repeat” for decades!
Keep me posted on whether the Fix makeup works just as well!
Christine, I’ve used it 3 or 4 times this week and, so far, so good, though it hasn’t been really unbearably hot and humid yet (I know from experience that the original Fix Makeup worked amazingly well in those conditions so I too hope this one performs as well; I’m also somewhat comforted that I have an unopened bottle of the original plus one in use that is still about 3/4 full). I’ll be ticked if this new version doesn’t perform as well.
That is promising! I get nervous when they reformulate a really good product!
That’s so kind of you to bring a gluten free dessert. I have celiac and I feel so special when my friends do that for me! 🙂
Yvette, most of us teach Food and Nutrition/Family Studies, so the food offered at our get together always takes into account that one person can’t have milk (she can have butter but not milk in any form – cow, goat, etc.) and that this other teacher can’t have gluten. The recipe’s an easy one (it’s a strawberry crumble with cornstarch in place of the flour to thicken the fruit and certified wheat free oatmeal in the topping) and it’s something everyone – even those who can eat gluten – likes.
I have been tempted by the secret brightening powder but I set my under eye make up with Guerlain Meteorites and I think it is working well. At least in one area I am showing restraint, lol!
Tammy, I am still using up a little Sephora sample pot of Secret Brightening powder. I’ve always thought it was rather gimmicky (and there’s nothing “secret” or “brightening” about it, honestly!) but recently I’ve noticed that at the end of the day, my concealer looks better when I use it than with almost any other setting powder. Honestly, a few times, when I’ve used Shiseido’s translucent powder (which I otherwise like), my concealer looks really dry and scaly by the time I get home from school. So I decided to spring for the full size of this but in all honesty, you use SO little of this (I apply with a MAC 224), that if you were to ask for a sample from Sephora, it would last you ages.
Thanks, Mariella. This is actually the same thing I noticed about my Meteorites: looks even nicer as the day progresses. I guess we both found a winner.
Haul:
Private Beauty Event (Special Pricing): UD Electric Palette, UD Vice (Afterdark), UD Moondust Palette (Releases this Fall…actually 7/14 I think). Moondust is swatched on my Instagram (@Binxcat4ever).
MAC (15% Off): Prep & Prime 24 Hour Extend Eye Base – I purchased this to try since you (Christine) said it’s great at smoothing.
Milani: Amore Mattallics Lip Crème (Cinemattic Kiss, Automattic Touch, Raving Matte). I am so psyched to get this; probably early next week. I
Neiman Marcus: Chanel Empreinte Du Desert Quad and the Sable Eyeliner, Mason Pearson Cleaning Brush, Camp Gorgeous GWP. Yup everyone here sucked me into getting the Chanel 😉 The liner is gorgeous too and goes great with the quad.
REN: Rosa Centifolia Cleansing Gel, Satin Perfection BB Cream, Rosa Centifolia 3-in-1 Cleansing Water (GWP)
Sephora: Benefit Concealer (Light/Medium – I have no clue why but Light was way too light for me), Ouai Wave Spray, Verb Hydrating Mask, Verb Ghost Oil
Smashbox ($20 Off): LA Lights Blendable Lip & Cheek Color (Hollywood & Highlight, Beverly Hills Blush), X-Rated Mascara Deluxe Sample, Be Legendary Lip Gloss Duo Deluxe Sample
Teeez Cosmetics (15% Off): Desert Metals Mascara (Midnight Sky), Sealed with a Kiss Lipduo (Violet Rush)
Urban Decay: False Eyelashes (Instaflare and Instalush), UD Pro 10 (Moondust Shadow Brush), Ink for Eyes (Perversion – Clearance for $7), UD didn’t give me a sample choice. They just put 2 Revolution lipsticks in my order: Jilted and Naked. I’ve never tried false eyelashes so I may be walking around with no lashes when I end up yanking out my natural ones!
Weekend plans: Mani – possibly the new MAC Fashion Pack one I got. I need to go pick up my new prescription sunnies. Possibly help my bf work on rewiring the electric in my daughter’s house.
Last album you had on repeat?: I haven’t bought an album in forever.
I’m glad you’re digging on the Eye Base so far, Michele! 😀
Michele, glad you are enjoying your Chanel goodies! Will need to check out your swatches of the UD Moondust palette – I have a single (think Zodiac) and love it! I tested the MAC Soft Serve shadows in Plead Guilty and Must Be Lust alone over primer, with no shadows underneath. I used a simple EcoTools synthetic eye shadow brush, over WNW Fergie primer, which has been DC’d but I think any primer that’s slightly tacky or glitter glue will do fine. They lasted + 9 hrs, and there was some minor fallout after the 5th hr, just a few glitters on lower lash line, but nothing major. I normally apply with fingers, and if I did, I don’t think there would’ve been any fallout. Plead Guilty runs more yellow gold, while Must Be Lust is more peach gold, but on my light/light med eyelids, they look almost the same, but lighter skintones might see more difference. They are very sparkly, and when worn alone, it can look kind of disco ball-ish, so I prefer to use lightly as sparkly toppers over matte or satin shadows, or save them for evenings. I did remember swatching Bounce Around in store, and the glitter seemed the loosest, and Temptalia mentioned it tends to separate from the base when blended, so that could account for the fallout you experienced. Since you have long nails and don’t like to use your fingers, maybe you can try using foam applicators? Or maybe using a cream-based taupe shadow to get more color and give it something to stick to? Hope this helps.
Yes, thank you! I guess I bought the worst of the bunch! I actually already gave away Bounce Around but may try out a different shade (I’m thinking Must Be Lust based on your description).
I noticed Allure posted Moondust swatches but I have to tell you, they don’t look right to me! I’m not sure if they had bad lighting or camera issues, but their swatches are not the right intensity or even color. The shadows seem to be pretty good. I actually just got the UD Moondust eyeshadow brush so I may try it (damp) over the weekend or sometime next week. I think it’s a solid palette.
I swatched all of the MAC Soft Serves in store, and Must Be Lust was my surprise fave. It’s so beautifully sparkly, very versatile color, and I think will be flattering on many skintones. I checked my stash, and I have UD Moondust in Vortex (not Zodiac), another stunner. Looking forward to your swatches/ thoughts on the new Moondust palette !
Michele, forgot to ask you. Did you get that free black and white tote from NM, the one that has diamond shaped prints on it and braided handles? If yes, is it a decent quality tote? I’ve been eyeing it (so pretty!) but haven’t had time to go in-store to check it out. I don’t have anything I “need” right now, but if it’s a nice tote, I’m sure I can find something to buy !
Yes I got the black and white one and the beige one (placed 2 orders). They are nice totes. They are lined inside. I actually packed them up to donate bc I have so many totes – wish you lived closer I’d just give them to you! (I can’t remember if they have inside pocket. I don’t think so. I’ll check later and reply back.)
Thanks for the info on the bags, Michele! Aww, thanks for your kind offer, too bad I live across the country. I think I will poke around the NM website, see if something catches my eye
Haul: BITE Beauty Spring Fling Set, Jack Black Intense Therapy lip balm in Black Tea and Blackberry, and a bunch of sample vials of the new Duochrome lip colors from Impulse Cosmetics. I’m kind of a lip person when it comes to cosmetics, lol.
Weekend plans: Recovering from a neck and shoulder injury that I sustained earlier this week, ugh.
Last album on repeat: Mitski’s new album Puberty 2. ?
We all have our weaknesses 😉
Feel better, Annaham!
We have a girls’ afternoon out tomorrow, so I’m going to repurchase some necessities (brow pencil, lip liner, primer, and body wash are at the top of the list). I’m hoping to test Bite Kale and Squid Ink if our Sephora has them, and maybe swatch some of the UD Vice colors while I’m at it!
I couldn’t remember the last time I bought a whole album, but the last couple of songs I purchased were Melanie Martinez. I know, I’m way behind on music, but I’ve reached that age where I find very little new music I like and think only music that came out during my college years and before is any good! Lol
I don’t buy much music either these days, though I have Spotify, so that gets me my music fix. I have bought maybe a handful albums from artists like Beyonce/Taylor Swift/Adele who haven’t made their newest albums available on the service.
I hear that a lot – that you like what you grew up with more than new music – and I feel like I might be the only person who is different, haha! I look forward to new releases every week!
I find a few new songs now and then through music apps. I almost never listen to the radio in the car, unless I’m riding with someone else, and the customization features of music apps means I tend to hear the same artists most of the time. It’s funny, I like songs from my teens and early 20s that I wasn’t crazy about at the time–but I guess the nostalgia factor makes me like them now! Haha Even the new music I like tends to be from artists that were around then, back when people bought CDs.
It’s becoming clear why my parents always want to crank 70s country hits on car trips, though. Give me “class of 2003” radio on Pandora, and I’m 18 all over again.
I experience that with songs I didn’t like (some that I hated at the time) – they aren’t quite as grating now, and some I’ve even come around to, lol!
Christine, I’m always finding new music that I like, but I have rather broad, eclectic and unusual tastes in music. Pandora has been really awesome for finding new (or new to me) artists who make music that’s similar to artists I already know I like.
Haul:
From Sephora: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara, Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Wildfire and TMI, Urban Decay Meltdown makeup remover wipes, Clinique Take the day Off micellar makeup remover wipes, and the Vice lipstick sampler with the 24 color samples.
From MAC: Blot powder loose in Medium with a sample of their cleansing oil which I’ve never tried before but now I kinda love it so I may have to order the full size one day.
Weekend Plans: I’m a retail sales team manager so I will be at work all weekend long. But I feel like it’s going to be a great weekend so I’m looking forward to it.
Last album on repeat: Probably Hozier.
How do you like the new Vice formula, Brittney?
I actually really like it. I liked the Revolution formula a lot but am happy that they changed the bullet shape this time around. And so far none of them seem to dry my lips out any which is always a plus. I was s little nervous about the metalized formula but bought Big Bang and Wildfire anyway and surprisingly those two are probably my favorites. And the wear time seems pretty good. I’m always running around at work with not much time to reapply and so far they’ve held up well or at least haven’t worn off in any weird kind of way so reapplying doesn’t turn into an absolute must. Overall probably one of my favorite lipstick formulas so far.
That’s great! I know a lot have been able to try it, since they did the samplers, but I haven’t heard tons of reviews from readers yet 😉
I love that Sephora had a sampler pack. So far I’ve picked colors that are more safe to me but with so many color options I’d like to branch out and see if I like anything else but am unwilling to buy something I may hate. So getting to try different colors without having to buy it is great.
I love that Sephora does the Favorites sets – they are a nice way to try higher-end stuff without comitting!
Haul: I got some Ofra and Jeffree Star product in a swap on Monday. 😉
Weekend plans: Saturday is my Grandma’s B-day on Saturday and we are just going to the show on Sunday. My Mom can’t eat right now with a new tooth peg put in so we are delaying dinner till she is better.
Last album you had on repeat?: none… I’m a sad radio girl.
Happy birthday to your Grandma!! 🙂
Hope your mom feels better soon!
Yeah, the swelling went down in 6 hours after the surgery so she is feeling much better today even if she can’t eat solids yet.
Haul: Kiehl’s avocado eye cream, hoping it will help with the dehydration under my eyes because no concealer looks good these days! And yesterday I grabbed Becca x Jaclyn Hill face palette. First time in a while I get a new “hype” palette!
Weekend plans: barbecue with friends tomorrow.
Last album: it’s been a while because I’ve been listening to Google Play radios non-stop for months, but it’s probably Back to Black by Amy Winehouse.
Is anyone else overwhelmed by the number of new products Tarte have released in the past few months? They’re becoming the new MAC, lol!
Fingers crossed that the eye cream helps, Lulle! I can kind of relate – the area underneath my eye has changed, and I’m still figuring out how to deal with it, lol!
Usually that area is only dehydrated in the winter for me, but this year it’s lasting for the first time… Is that age 😡 ?
For me, it seems like age 🙁
I hope the new eye cream works for you. My undereye area gets really dehydrated in the winter these days, and the only product I’ve found so far that seems to help AND works well under makeup for me is the eye cream Paula’s Choice came out with this winter. The texture is really thick — it helps to warm it between your fingers and then pat it on, don’t try to rub/swipe it on — but once it sinks in, it really works for me. The CeraVe eye cream works well for me in warmer weather, but not when things get really dehydrated by winter winds and central heating.
I might get something from Paula’s Choice soon so I’ll try to order a sample, thanks for the recommendation!
I agree – you are spot on about Tarte!
Right? I’m unable to keep up!
I usually let my eye cream sink in, then lightly dot Cerave Healing Ointment on my under eye area, as it really seals in the moisture, so when I wake up, my under eye is nicely moisturized. During the winter, my hands were cracked and dry, and the ointment was working wonders overnight, so decided to try on my under eye. It does have petroleum and mineral oil though, if you are sensitive to that. I also keep a small sample tube at work, to apply on my under eye during the day if it gets dry. A little goes a long way
I like the CeraVe Healing Ointment, too, for sealing in other creams when my hands are super-dry, and for healing the blisters and sores my new summer shoes keep causing on my feet!
Not much of a haul this week. Got the MAC Prep+Prime 24 Hour Extend Eye Base. Ingredients identical to Smashbox 24 hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer except a couple close to the bottom of the list. Not surprising since both are Lauder companies, and I was told by someone at The Cosmetic Company Store that they often sell the same product under different labels. Possibly it seems to work better because it’s brand new, and I’ve had the Smashbox for awhile. Got the MUFE Smokey Extravagant Mascara. Loved the sample in the Allure box, it’s giving my favorite, Guerlain Maxi Lash some good competition. Also got Clinque Cheek Pop in Peach, MAC Sweet and Sour l/s, and Steelpoint liner at TCC. Having one of these less than 10 minutes from my house is dangerous, as is the Ulta, which is 5 minutes from my home. All I need now is a Sephora close by.
I look forward to Fridays to see the latest photo of Mellan. There is no resisting his adorableness. My hear melts every time I see a photo of this sweet, lovely boy <3
Smashbox and MAC’s did seem close just by texture/packaging when I tested both, though I hadn’t looked at the ingredients. I’m surprised they are THAT close, though, even being under the ELC umbrella.
That’s good to know! I’ve been curious to try the MAC primer (I have a sick need to try all eye primers, LOL!), but since I really dislike the one from Smashbox, I feel it’s an easy skip-for now…
I think Wayne Goss featured a MAC and a Smashbox foundation that had identical ingredients and one cost more than the other.
Really sweet picture of Mellan!
Haul: NARS Audacious Lipsticks in Jane, Lana, and Audrey
Small size of Moroccanoil for my mom to try (we have the same kind of hair – thick, unruly – so I always share great hair finds with her.)
NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil in Pop Life
NARS The Multiple in Hot Sand
Dolce & Gabbana Bronzer in Natural 10
MAC Skinfinish Powder in Warm Rose (I’m pretty fair, so I’m going to see how this works as a finishing powder.)
Becca Blush in Gypsy
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow foundation in the two lightest shades (I love the Infallible Pro-Matte foundation, so I am excited to try this. Hopefully it’s not too glowy, i.e. sparkly!)
butter London blushes in Tiger Lily and Sun Baked
Weekend plans: Go swimming tonight at the gym with my husband (we’re trying to make this a Friday habit), volunteer at the Humane Society, hopefully go see X-Men Apocalypse.
Last album you had on repeat?: The radio?! 🙂 And the 80’s and 90’s music channels on TV.
Yay for new Audacious shades!! Which is your favorite?
Jane! I hemmed and hawed for a long time, but said, what the heck! Audrey is also really pretty; it reminds me of the exclusive shade Vivian. I really love Pop Life, too.
BTW, the L’Oréal Pro-Glow foundation is awesome!
Haul: LC’s Beet It. It arrives on wed next week, I’m curious about the formula and how it compares to my HG – KVD.
Weekend plans: My cousin is having a 21st birthday barbeque and I’m the designated photographer ha!
Last album you had on repeat?: Panic! At The Disco’s Death of a Bachelor. They’re great, can’t wait to go to their concert in August!
Hopefully you have fun photographing 😉
Haul: Nothing, yet. I might get a few things. I’m torn. I’m considering treating myself but I’m still sick and working, so I may wait until I have enough spoons to go somewhere!
Weekend: Since I’m still sick and working full time, probably nothing but sleeping and eating soup. I’d like to go the mall or get some food out but it’s Father’s Day weekend. I have next to no energy cause I’m expending it at work. Not that a desk job is that hard but this never ending kidney infection makes everything hard.
Last Album: Queens of the Stone Age Like Clockwork and Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto. My husband usually is the one playing music and I have to listen to his “screamo” 24/7. Luckily, we can agree on Fall Out Boy so that gets played all the time. Now that he’s gone for a while, I mostly listen to Pandora so it’s a mix of stuff. My main stations are based on my goth/industrial tendencies, but my most consistently played are Decemberists Radio, Depeche Mode, and French Cafe. French Cafe is my normal work music. I know I have odd tastes all over the map.
Fingers crossed you feel better shortly, Erin! Get some rest!!
Hope you feel better soon!
Erin, I have had a kidney infection in the past and I know how awful you must be feeling. Probably you shouldn’t be working with this – it is quite debilitating. Are you on antibiotics? I found drinking decaf tea was a good alternative to drinking water all the time. Take care.
Hope you feel better soon, Erin. Sound like you’re managing your energy and saving your spoons for necessary activities.
Haul: Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette, mini lipgloss set and brow wiz. Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette.
Weekend plans: Fathers day lunch with Dad and shopping for my husband
Last album on repeat: Nothing. I rarely listen to music
Do you listen to anything else – like podcasts or TV or do you just prefer quiet instead? I go in and out of listening to music myself.
I listen to audiobooks and educational podcasts. I’m such a nerd ?
Nothing wrong with that 😀
Haul: MAC “Night Crawler” pencil (backup, it’s on sale so I ordered another one haha) and “Lightly Charred” lipstick.
Weekend plans: craft beer festival at the zoo tonight, working on the bathroom tomorrow, family picnic Sunday with some of my extended family who are coming into town for a wedding.
Last album you had on repeat: Gangstagrass – American Music.
They should make Night Crawler permanent!
They really should! I think I’m going to write them an email about it 🙂
I was so annoyed about Night Crawler! Just ordered it and now did you see it’s on 30% off?!
Me too!! I got 2 of the Nightcrawler lip liner pencils at full price, and now it’s 30% off! But I didn’t think it would go on sale so soon (or ever), and I didn’t want to risk running out of stock since it’s so hard to find a true purple . Oh well, it happens
Yeah I ordered one at full price and one at the discount. I apparently don’t get emails from MAC even though I’ve signed up for the list a few times, so a few weeks back when there was a 15% sale code I didn’t know and placed an order at full price! I also didn’t know about the BOGO lipstick in store until it was over.
Alice, wow that blows! If you have free text messaging, maybe you should try signing up for those if you haven’t already. I get the notices both ways.
Haul: Just received my order from ABH (summer collection); can’t wait to try out the beautiful palette! Weekend plans: Attending my son’s high school graduation. I still remember kindergarten; I can’t believe how fast the time has gone by. He is the baby of the family and the last of my children in school.
Last album you had on repeat: I have watched EVERY season of the Voice, which is one of my favorite shows since it came on the air. I remember downloading Christina Grimmie’s songs when she appeared on the shows 6th season. I am so heartbroken that her life was tragically cut short. So, I have been listening to her songs this week, remembering why I fell in love with the beautiful voice she was blessed with. She was a kind and beautiful young lady who had such a bright future ahead of her. RIP Christina, you will be missed…
Congratulations on your son’s high school graduation! 🙂
It’s been a tough week in Florida 🙁
I am jealous of your ABH purchase! You will have to let us know what you think after you try them out!
I sure will Tammy! The Renaissance palette is gorgeous. I have been collecting the ABH palettes and this one is my favorite so far. I am also pleased she released a glow kit for deeper skin tones, although I truly did not need another highlighter. I think I really need to put myself on a strict “no buy” for highlighters. 🙂
Haul: Oh, boy… Here goes: NYX Lip Lingerie in Corset & Honeymoon; NYX Liquid Suede in Alien, Oh Put It On, Subversive Socialite, Downtown Beauty, Brooklyn Thorn, & Club Hopper; NYX Matte Lipstick in Crazed & Honeymoon; NYX Full Throttle Lipstick in Loaded & Up The Bass; Maybelline Lipstick in Pitch Black, Blackest Berry, Dynamite Red, Wickedly White, Nude Thrill, Gone Greige, Smoking Red, Midnight Merlot, & Grey Over It; CoverGirl Katy Perry Lipstick in Catoure, Sphynx, & Pink Paws; Revlon 5-in-1 mascara x 2; and finally, Lipsyl (I needed a good lip balm after this haul, LOL!). Oh, I also picked up 2 WnW lash primer, eyeshadow primer, and LE highlighter stick in Marigold Round.
My KvD liquid lipsticks came in (Witches, Nosferatu, Damned, Vampira, & Exorcism), as well as my Lunatick Cosmetics Labs Contour Palette. I think that’s everything…
Plans: Nothing in particular…
Last Album/Repeat: I rarely listen to an entire album all the way through, but that was most likely Martin L. Gore “Counterfeit, or something by Nick Cave. That said, I did play Marc Almond’s “Scar” a few times yesterday, as well as a few Wolfsheim songs…
How are you liking all the NYX lipsticks? Any recs?
I really love the Full Throttle formula, and already had 2 from when they first released for Spring. They seem nearly identical to the original Revlon ColorStay formula from the 90s, which wasn’t drying, but also had no “slip”, and never “bunched”.
I’m waiting on trying the new Liquid Suede shades, as they are sooo dark, and would look better with heavier fabrics, as opposed to the flowy clothes I favor for Summer. From what I can tell, the colors are amazing, and I have the 3 “reds” from the previous release, so I hope the formula is the same!
I like the Lip Lingerie’s okay, but wearing such a matte nude will take getting used to, but they are interesting. I knew I wanted Corset, but I would have rather tried Embellishment over Honeymoon, but it has been impossible to track down. Fortunately, I’m becoming friendly with the CVS “Beauty Concierge”, so I may be able to ask her to put one aside, LOL! It’s a new store, so it’s always slow, and we talk about makeup for 20-30 minutes every week…
Thank you for the feedback on the three formulas!
Sometimes making friends in the right places is all you need to get that hard-to-find beauty product, LOL!
Such a sweet face, Mellan!
Haul:
MAC:
Patentpolishes: It’s Really Me, Berry Black Friday, Ruby and French Kiss
Lipglass (from Ebay): Pussywillow
Liptstick: Really Me, On Hold
Foundation: Matchmaster in 1.5 (LOVE this so far, it’s just like my HG Giorgio Armani LSUV in 5.5), am thinking I will use the last of my Mineralize Moisture foundation and transition to this. I like a natural/demi-matte/satin finish these days – am done with the luminous or radiant finishes for now.
Paint Pot: Layin’ Low
Blush: Pinch Me
Eyeliner: Strong Willed
Mineralize Skinfinish: Give Me Bronze
Eyeshadow refill pans: Tilt, Scene, Swiss Chocolate, Corduroy, Naked Lunch
Blush refill pan: Mocha
Chanel: my first major purchases, and from a counter for swatching – usually I just order Glossimers or the recent mascara online. I am reminded why I rarely swatch in store other than at a Sephora or MAC. Maybe it wasn’t that way before, but lately I feel like MAC and Sephora are really good about checking in and then leaving you to it. The Chanel counter sales assistant was quite aggressive and she didn’t even work for Chanel, she worked for Dior (the next counter over) so it’s not like she could’ve helped me with in-depth or formula questions or color variances anyway. I have always felt like ignoring them or being aloof/terse/curt was rude and how would I feel if that were my job and someone treated me that way blah blah blah but I felt really uncomfortable with her constant hovering and “did you want to go ahead and get that? Would you like me to pull that for you? I’ll set that one aside for you . . .did you have another one in mind?” It wasn’t busy (a Tuesday, mid day) and I was the only customer and I must have said many times “I’m just looking and swatching, but thank you . . .no, I just want to swatch a few things, thank you though . . .no thanks, just looking at a few things . . .oh that’s alright, I just want to compare the finishes . . .” I made eye contact and smiled, I wasn’t dismissive or imperious about it. She followed my every move and was just standing behind the counter, waiting. And in my head I’m getting more pissed by the minute because, what, does she think I’m going to steal something? Am I an inconvenience because I’m not that knowledgeable? Can I just browse for a few uninterrupted minutes??? I’m sure there are quotas and I know it’s their paycheck but I left feeling angry. As it was, I ordered both online and picked up in store, but wanted to swatch some blushes, a few more quads, ask some questions about a foundation because I am trying to swatch before I buy so I don’t return (I don’t like buying a bunch of things for the sake of testing anymore – for me I feel like it’s wasteful). This experience makes me feel like “Oh well, let them sort it out and this is why people order online because they don’t want to be henpecked!” Okay, rant over.
Eyeshadow Quad: Empreinte du Desert
Illusion D’ Ombre: Illusoire
Sephora:
Marc Jacobs birthday gift: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang lipstick, black eyeliner
Clinique: Pink Honey (sample or 100 pt. gift?)
Jack Black: Face Moisturizier (sample or 100 pt. gift?)
Philosophy: Amazing Grace perfume (100 pt. or 250 pt. gift?)
Erno Laszlo soaps: Firmarine and Black Charcoal soaps
Urban Decay: Spectrum palette, Gwen Stefani palette – these were weird buys because I have thrown in the towel at this point with Urban Decay – I am not edgy or bold and much of their makeup and aesthetic is geared to that. I also like to get my makeup done with products I’m thinking about buying and I don’t know that Urban Decay does that (they might at their flagship store but I’m not going to make the drive, and I’m sure Sephora would do an all Urban Decay look if requested but if they did, I don’t think I would like a look that was done on me). I have my beloved MAC for that anyway, so . . . meh. I might use the Spectrum palette but most likely will just gift the Gwen Stefani palette.
Weekend plans: Today and Saturday – cleaning and cooking leisurely, maybe a movie tonight. Sunday Father’s Day at my sister’s and also celebrating my niece’s birthday.
Last album you had on repeat: Nathaniel Rateliff and The Nightsweats
🙂
I haven’t used Matchmaster in so long, you’re making me want to revisit it! 🙂
Sad to hear that you didn’t have a great experience at the Chanel counter. I definitely feel like MAC stores have gotten a lot better over the years – I cannot remember the last time I’ve gone to a MAC and had a bad experience. It’s interesting that the in-person Chanel experience left you frustrated, because at least for me, Chanel’s online shopping experience is really well-executed from when you order ’til when you get the package.
Really happy with Matchmaster – I think it will do well with the summer heat (so far, no sheen after a few hours midday out and about).
Maybe it was just this specific store culture or something? I think you’re right about online ordering, too – I have always found online ordering to be pretty efficient and streamlined. I ordered it from Macy’s and picked up at my local store at the pick-up location (Dresses, go figure) and went downstairs to the makeup counters for browsing and swatching. I was thinking of getting a few blushes and Glossimers to go with it but it’s a pass, now. I am comfortable enough with my local MAC store to take it in there and ask for their recommendations (even though it’s not a MAC product) for a MAC lipstick or blush to go with it instead. And when it’s all said and done, I got my prize – Empreinte du Desert! (I love the eye look you did with it!)
I hope you love Empreinte du Desert! 🙂
And I’m so glad you have a good MAC store to go to for recs!
Love Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats!
Awesome haul! Oh..and I assume it was/is your birthday (from the Sephora gift) so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Thank you, Michele! ☺
Happy Birthday, Pearl! I know what you mean about the department store counters, that’s why I prefer Sephora or buy online. I would love to swatch and browse in peace, but sometimes there’s a really aggressive SA following me around like a shadow. I know it’s her job to sell, but please give me some room! I usually hop around the counters, trying to sneak swatches when nobody’s around, when the counter is super busy with customers, or when the SA doing a makeover on someone.
Thank you Katherine! 🙂
I was wondering how you did it! I would read your comments and you’d mention swatching and I always thought “wow, she’s got it down pat!” I’m going to try the keep-moving strategy next time I’m in Macy’s or Nordstroms, and to go when it’s more crowded. I don’t like crowds and the hustle and bustle, but if it means less hovering it will be worth it.
LOL, it took me a while to figure it out, but it works! I usually have a running list of things I want to swatch, then when I have time, I will go to the local stores. I try to swatch as much stuff as possible at Sephora, since they will leave me alone, then I head over to the department stores, and hop around the counters. I wear a dark short sleeve T shirt, so I can quickly swatch all over my on my arms, because I usually run out of space too quickly using just the back of my hands. And if it accidentally rubs off, no big deal.
Haul: UD Naked2. I didn’t want it bad enough to pay full price, but Groupon had it for $25, so I got it. It just arrived, so I’m going to try it out. It might be more of a “smokey” palette on me. I ordered the Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette, and it should be here by Monday. Ipsy Glam Bag and Notoriously Morbid subscription (this month’s was a yummy-smelling lipscrub, and beautiful green, purple, and peach eyeshadows).
Weekend plans: Shopping and cooking for Father’s Day. My hubby requested home-made chicken enchiladas and pineapple upside-down cake.
Last album you had on repeat?: Simple Minds “Once Upon a Time,.” An oldie, but one of my all-time favorites. It always makes me feel good.
$25 for Naked2? That is a steal!
Crap, just found out the Naked palettes on Groupon are replicas. I missed that in the description. I have to say, comparing to the real thing, the packaging, color payoff, show quality and brush quality are dead-on. So a really good replica!
Still, it was dumb of me to miss, and I’d never knowingly buy a replica. I wanted to correct my post so people wouldn’t make the same mistake I did. I didn’t want to mislead anyone.
*shadow quality, not show quality.
I like reading your comments because of comments like this – you have always been honest, authentic and candid. ?
Thanks, Pearl. That’s sweet. Nothing hurt by being honest, except my pride. lol
OMG you are going to love Beauty Killer! The only shade that’s kind of so-so (and only bc it separates a bit and isn’t as smooth) is Rich B*tch. Also Star Power does stain so be sure to use a solid primer.
How do you like the subscriptions? Would you recommend one/them?
Thanks, Michele. I’m very excited to get it. All the reviews said Rich B*itch was a bit of a b*tch to work with, but I think a sticky base will put things right. We’ll see! 🙂
I love the Notoriously Morbid subscription, but it took more than a year to get off the waiting list. I like Ipsy for the most part, and the last few months they’ve really stepped up their game. For $10 a month, it’s pretty good.
Thanks Rachel! I got on the NM waiting list. What a cool site! Their site said they were selling limited quantities of the June box, which I thought would be good for me to try them out, but when I went to pay, it said it was sold out 🙁 I’ve never tried their products before, can you recommend several solid starters for me?
Mellan has the same look on his face as I have for the past few weeks: “So when exactly does it stop being too hot in the outdoors? 4 months?!? Ugh.”
Haul: Nothing. Actually a tiny anti-haul, brought back the Nyx Baked Blush in Chiffon because it didn’t even show on me at ALL! Also, the Prismatic Frostbite. The in-store tester always made this shade look SO beautiful, but IRL? Nope!
Weekend plans: Just my weekly hair blowout, finish the mani-pedi I started last night when I took off 12 day old polish from all 20 nails! It was China Glaze in That Shore Is Bright. Now to pick a shade of the week (or longer). Also going to *try* making my delish curried chicken. Comfort food!
Last album on repeat: hmmm, it’s been forever! However, I can NOT get enough of Meghan Trainor’s No!
LOL! We’re still trying to figure out if he likes the sun or not… because after we let him out for a potty break around lunch time, he always lays down on the grass. Now, to contrast this, in the morning, he’ll come back to the door when he’s done…
Curried chicken? Share the recipe!
He may be trying to figure it out , too! Kind of like when we humans are new to this climate? When we first moved here, during the first 4-ish years, I used to lay out in the sun by the pool and savor the warmth in my bones. (Yes, with sunscreen on!)
Now, I NEVER lie out in it! And I many times don’t leave home without my “sunbrella” and 40 spf sunscreen on my face and 15 spf on the rest of me!
I will post recipe as I cook it, as I really only measure the curry powder and garlic powder by sight and how much chicken I’m using.
Haul: Surratt eyelash curler x 2. I was watching a Lisa Eldridge video recently and she was using the Surratt eyelash curler and said that she liked it better than her usual Shu Uemura curler so thought I would give it a try. I bought one for my daughter and one for myself. There is a bit of a learning curve but I think I will like it once I get the hang of it. Bite Thistle x 2, Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lippie in Vintage and Jack Black Glycolic Facial Cleanser.
Weekend Plans: Drive up to Glacier National Park for Saturday and just go as far as the road is open towards Logan’s Pass.
Album on Replay: Adele 25. We are seeing her in Seattle the end of July and so I am getting “in the mood”. I really love everything about her. I love her voice, her personality and sense of humor.
Two of them! Oh, wow! It must be good then 😉
I love Adele as well and I am sure you are going to love her concert. And how wonderful it is to be able to drive up to the Glacier National park. That would be something we would do.
Haul: I treated myself at Sephora today for passing my esthetician licensing exam yesterday 🙂 They had the new Urban Decay Vice lipsticks in — all of them, except that Phone Call was already sold out — and I refrained from going crazy and buying a few dozen, limiting myself (for today) to Sheer Anarchy and Sheer Shame for easy-to-wear summer shades, and tried on, loved, and got Studded, as well. Of course Studded, being a greyish taupe, called for more color on my face than what I had on, so for my cheeks I tried on the NARS Dual Intensity blush duo Adoration — it seemed a bit too warm for me, so I piled Mata Hari on top of it — loved the result, and bought them all. They’ll work well with my now growing collection of grey/taupe lipsticks. For some color on my eyes I tried on NARS Habanera, loved the way it looks on me, and treated myself to that, too. For my pro kit I picked up two Sephora Collection brushes — #19, the Pro Tapered Crease brush, and #93, the Pro Featherweight blending brush (I love the Featherweight powder, complexion, and fan brushes — the blending brush is similar to a Wayne Goss brush that I have and love to use for highlighter, but hate to wash with alcohol because it’s natural hair — with its synthetic bristles, this one should be more practical for my pro kit).
Weekend plans: mostly resting! Commuting to 30 hours a week of school, in an intense program, was really, really hard on me and all my medical problems, although I’m so happy I’ve completed it — especially happy that I learned that I really love applying makeup on other people and seem to have some talent for it, too! On the occasions when I did another student’s makeup and her face lit up because she really loved it, it made me super-happy! My makeup collection is getting put to good use! I’ve started a class in Reiki, as an add-on for faciallspa treatments, that runs for three hours every Monday for twelve weeks, and will be taking a week-long makeup course in August 🙂 I also want to take some classes/lessons in drawing and painting, because I think that will give me a better understanding of how to use color. But first I’m going to give myself a few days of rest, then polish up my resume and look for a job in my new field!
Last album I had on repeat: When relaxing/resting/reading, I like to put all of Ali Farka Toure’s or Toumani Diabate’s work on repeat.
Oops! How could I forget, I also picked up the Sun Safety Kit to try out a bunch of sunscreens/have handy small sizes to keep in my bag for re-applying to my hands throughout the day, and the Laura Mercier 500-point perk.
Congrats on passing your exam, Fran!! That is so awesome. Will you be doing it all or will you focus on a specific area of beauty? It sounds like you’ll be doing makeup, but I’d love to hear more about your plans!
Thank you, Christine 🙂 I’ll be looking first for an entry-level esthetician job that focuses on facials and makeup (rather than waxing — eyebrows interest me, but I really couldn’t wax legs all day long!). So probably in a local day spa. I like doing facials more than I expected to. I’ll commute into Philly on the train happily, but driving a more than about four miles to work would really add to my stress level, so I’m a bit geographically circumscribed. It’s pretty hard to break into doing makeup full-time, but that’s my goal for the long run. Maybe in a year I’ll have enough experience to benefit from a few weeks instruction at someplace like MUD or Make Up For Ever Academy in New York, but to make a full-time living in makeup I might have to move to New York or L.A. Harder to contemplate at 60 than at 20, but I’m not ruling it out! And I might write for industry periodicals on the side.
Sounds like you have a really good plan laid out for yourself, Fran! 🙂 I wish you the best of luck that you’re able to find a job that’s the right distance/mode of transportation for your lifestyle!
Congratulations on passing your exam, Fran!
Thank you, Pearl 🙂
Fran, congratulations!!! So proud of you 🙂 Lots of hard work, but this new career in makeup sounds so interesting and exciting, so many areas to explore
Thanks, Katherine, it really is exciting to get to do something more creative.
Congratulations on passing your exams, Fran. Although I love to do makeup, there was no opportunity when I was young. Happy you can do it.
Susan, I am 59 years young, and I was not the oldest person in my class — one classmate is 72! We had a harder time of it physically than the younger ones did, but we made it — and having years of experience working with people was a plus for us!
Good to hear. My problem is nerve damage to my arms and hands. I am a retired RN but retirement came before I was ready in 2007. I’ll be 67 in a month.
Congratulations on passing your exam!!! At first I thought you bought ALL the new Urban Decay lipsticks, lol. I have had Habanera on my wish list for years but whenever I go to NARS counter, I end up trying something else on. Not sure how it would look on my medium warm complexion. Do you have a Sephora Pro blush brush that you would recommend?
No, Tammy, I just WANT them all 😉
I think Habanera would look great on a medium warm complexion.
My favorite blush brushes are the Hourglass No. 2 foundation/blush brush and the IT Brushes for ULTA Live Beauty Fully Flawless Blush Brush #227. Students that I used them on loved the way they felt on their skin, too. I do really like the new Sephora PRO Featherweight Complexion Brush #90 as a blush brush, but have less experience with it than with the other two. I have a Sephora Collection Pro angled blush brush #49, but I just don’t like it as much as the others (it’s not as soft, doesn’t diffuse/blend the blush as easily). My Make Up For Ever Blush Brush #160 is my favorite contouring brush, although it’s good for blush, too (there’s a learning curve with it — it seems too long/floppy to some people when they first try it, but I love it for applying contour powders in a thick-to-thin or thin-to-thick line). I like their #150 Precision Blush Brush for precision blush application (like a small pop of a more intense blush on top of a more subtle blush) or for generous application of highlighter. That covers most of my synthetic-bristle blush brushes! Unless we get into cream blushes or fan brushes… I’m a serious brush addict.
Fran, thank you for the blush brush recommendations, I’m checking those out. I asked the right person!
Congratulations on passing your exam! Everything you’re doing sounds SO exciting. Best of luck in your new career!
Hearty congratulations on passing your exam and having the courage and persistence to envision and begin a new career!
Haul: L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Balm, Caudalie Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil, L’Occitane Hand Cream Trio.
Weekend plans: Writing some blog posts and possibly browsing some antique jewelry stores with a friend.
Last album on repeat: “Red” by Solar Fields.
Have you tried that Eye Balm before, Chris?
Bought A lot of Mac lipsticks with 15% off from the USA Website a d nordstrom
From the German Mac Website I bought some Chris Chang dddevilish lipstick Backups and a lot of other new things, soft serve eyeshadows, 2 eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks
So many new Mac collections
No Plans for the weekend, have to work on saturday
No Album on repeat because there is no Album I like all the Songs from.
I have a Playlist with all my favourite Songs and Prefer this one
Nice! Glad you were able to take advantage of the MAC sale, Kylie 🙂
A beautiful picture of Mellon – resting so peacefully.
Haul: Nothing much this week.
Weekend plans: Taking my youngest son (who is a grown man!) shopping for clothes for his upcoming birthday. He is a shocker at shopping for clothes – always has been too. Other than that – we’ll see what the weather brings as it has been cold and wet here.
Last Album I listened to: 25 by Adele. A great album.
Hope you have fun shopping with your son! 🙂
Haul: Yesterday I picked up seven (yes, 7!) of the UD Vice Lipsticks. I got one (Sabotage) from Sephora & the rest from ULTA (Manic, No-Tell Motel, Plaid, Psycho, Sheer Ladyflower & Spiderweb).
Weekend Plans: Not setting the alarm for the next two days & spending some time with my mom & stepdad.
Last Album on Repeat: I listen to a wide variety of songs on a USB drive in my car, so I don’t remember the last time I listened to just one album. It was probably JT’s The 20/20 Experience, when each disc was released.
Seven! Very nice 😀
Enjoy your alarm-less weekend!
Thanks, Christine! I have more Vice Lipsticks on my list, but I decided to show some restraint. LOL! I also ordered the Tarte Limited-Edition Kiss & Blush Cream Cheek & Lip Palette. It should be here next week!
Haul: ABH Sun Dipped Glow Kit, and MAC’s Oh Darling (someone sold me their backup and it’s brand new. Yay!). I also received some of the new NYX liquid and matte lipsticks yesterday and I loved them so much that I’d like to order some more next month. And last but not least: Luxie brushes! I discovered this brand about a week ago and I instantly fell in love with their 5 piece kabuki set. I plan on getting it asap since I’m really in need of a new brush set.
Weekend plans: studying for the last two exams of this year! But first I’m going to get some sleep. I just got home from a Rihanna concert and my feet are exhausted! ?
Last album on repeat: Rihanna’s ANTI, Tori Kelly’s Foreword and Justin Bieber’s Purpose. I couldn’t pick one.. I just really love music and can’t go a day without it!
Which NYX formulas were they?
Soft matte lip cream in Rome, Budapest and Berlin! I compared them with two others that I already had (Copenhagen and Transsylvania). Not sure if it’s a coincidence or mine where just old.. But I find the new colors to be more opaque! And they mix really well with NYX’ liquid suede cream lipsticks. I mixed Soft Spoken with Berlin and it looked amazing. It did not felt flaky or dry at all and I have worn it multiple times for at least 5 hours a day.
I also got Dark Era, one of their new matte lipsticks. I have not tried that one yet but it looks very nice ?.
Ps: I’m officially in love with Mellan. So cute!
It wouldn’t surprise me if they got a little better between the initial and more recent release of the formula!
Mellan is such a cutie!
Haul: It was my birthday last Saturday, so I put some gift cards to Macy’s and Nordstrom to work! From Macy’s I got Chanel’s Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer and their Rouge Coco lipstick in Adrienne and from Nordstrom I got Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombre in New Moon and MAC’s Fix+. Also, because I felt like my birthday was a good enough justification and because it’s been hugely discounted, I bought the Kevyn Aucoin “Limited Edition-The Essential Collection” holiday kit thing (eyeshadow palette, four lipglosses and a mascara) from Neiman Marcus as well as Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombre in Emerveille. I’ve been on a bit of a Chanel kick for a last week or so. I can’t wait to use just about everything. The only things I’ve gotten to use so far have been the Kevyn Aucoin palette and the Rouge Coco lipstick and I love them both.
Weekend plans: Avoiding the ridiculous, makes-me-want-to-move heat and practicing my liquid eyeliner application.
Last album you had on repeat?: The soundtrack to The Heat lol.
Sounds like someone had a very, very happy birthday, Nicole!! 🙂
I did, thank you! =D
Happy Birthday Nicole! Chanel New Moon is a top fave for me!
Thank you Katherine T.! I can believe it-it looks so gorgeous in swatches, I can’t wait for it to get here!
Happy birthday Nicole! Celebrating with Chanel is a great way to gift yourself?
Thank you! =D
Happy Birthday, Nicole!
Thank you! ^_^
Haul: Dior Lip Maximizer, UD lippie sampler (fun!), a couple of sizes of MAC palettes and inserts to start building, single ES in Stars n Rockets, Expensive Pink, Copperplate, Club, Print, Smut, Vanilla and White Frost, blushes in Full of Joy and Well Dressed.
Weekend plans: Thrifting, then staying home with takeout & champagne and avoiding the Father’s Day restaurant crush.
Last album you had on repeat?: Die Antwoord Mixtape
Nice picks for your MAC palette, Mimielle! I like how the blushes coordinate with them!
Thanks! All of your comparisons/dupes are so great to reference so if I do my homework, I won’t repeat too-similar MAC colors and finishes from my UD stash. I really appreciate you mentioning HOW the shadows differ.
Haul: Nothing, for once!
Weekend plans: Some manner of celebrating Father’s Day with my fiance and daughter…my boys will be with their dad. Also watching more Orange is the New Black than a person should be allowed to, starting when I get done at the gym tonight.
Album: I haven’t exactly listened to any one album on repeat, but I’ve been listening to various Sufjan Stevens albums on Google Play Music for the past couple of days.
Nice job on the no-buy for the last week, Stephanie! 🙂
Haul: ABH Modern Renascence palette; Sephora Favorites Summer Hair Saviors
Weekend plans: Since it’s supposed to be quite warm here this weekend, we hope to take the t-tops off the Firebird and go for a drive along the coast tomorrow. Then, of course, celebrate Father’s Day with the kids on Sunday.
Last album you had on repeat?: I don’t remember the last time I listened to one particular album on repeat. I did have 28 albums by the same artist on repeat in shuffle mode recently.
Any favorites from the Hair Saviors yet?
I was already a fan of the Bumble & Bumble primer (have repurchased many times) and the Briogeo conditioning mask (have full size), and I’d been curious about the Verb sea spray and how it compares to B&B. The Verb feels less drying but I’m going to have to use it a few more times to really get a feel for it.
The Milk leave-in treatment… it has a really strong scent to it (eucalyptus?). I rarely have a problem with fragrances but it’s kind of overpowering when I first pump it from the bottle. I almost washed it off my hands without using it, then noticed the scent had shifted into something more pleasant so I went ahead and ran it through my hair.
I had already tried a sample of Don’t Blow It! and I really like it. I have natural curls and it worked every bit as well as my TIGI curl-enhancing products. Summer is here so I’m back to shorter, layered, strawberry-blonde hair, less hair dryer, and a lot more curl!
I haven’t tried the rest of the items yet, but the Drybar Hydrating Shot is next on my list!
I’m glad the scent shifted! The worst is something really strong and unpleasant that lingers, lol!
Magellan looks very patient in this picture. Thanks for the sale info. I ordered a color corrector this past week from Haute Look. The Balm.
Mellan is how I entered that but it changed.
No problem, Susan! 🙂
Haul: Makeup-wise I have a lot on my wishlist but I have only bought one thing this week. It’s the GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick in Kitten Pink. It feels really nice on the lips and has a lot of shine but I feel like the staying power isn’t ideal for me. However I’m still trying it to get a better idea of how long it actually lasts, because I could be wrong! 🙂
Weekend plans: Doing nothing! I’ll see my parents on Monday to give my Dad his Father’s Day gift. So yeah, no plans for the weekend. ?
Last album you had on repeat? It was either Young Forever or Dark & Wild, both by BTS. I’m a huge K-Pop fan! ❤
Aw, sorry to hear the Kitten Pink lipstick isn’t working out so well!
Haul: Nothing yet, but I plan on hitting the Clinique and MAC counter today and pay a visit to LUSH!
Weekend plans: See above 😉 Followed by drinks, movie and dinner.
Last album you had on repeat?: F.E.A.R by Papa Roach.
Hope you had fun shopping!
Haul: Nothing purchased. Received 3 items from Bobbi Brown’s new Sunset Collection: Sunset Glow highlighter (the star), sheer cheek tint in lilac, and lip tint tube in Telluride. Also received Charlotte Tilbury’s legendary brows and brow lift (bundle promo). LOVE the legendary brows!!
Weekend plans: it’s been a full week, so relaxing and enjoying the summer weather.
Last album on repeat: U2’s Songs of Innocence. Am enamoured with this album and loved the concerts!
Love this week’s pic of Mellan. He is so adorable.
The Bobbi Brown highlighters look pretty!
To be honest I have been out of control…I got the Becca Jaclyn Hill blush and highlight pallet, Morphe 350 shimmer/matte pallets, a ton of MUG shadows that I didn’t have during the 10% off sale that should be arriving later this week or early next week, 5 new UD Vice lippies (which I am loving!!!), a few Gerard lippies, Colour Pop lippies and a few new shadows, all 3 Violet Voss pallets and the highlighter pallet, the ABH new glow pallet and the new Renaissance pallet, I took advantage of the bi annual Nordstrom mascara sale and picked up the new YSL ones, Givenchy and Guerlain. The LE Givenchy Prisme Libre Magnolia Couture Edition powder and the lippie. I also picked up a few of the Huda beauty lip contour pencils. I know, I know….I have a problem. Dear God it looks so bad when it’s all typed out. Please don’t judge me.
Enjoy all your new goodies, Jenn! 🙂 What do you like the most so far?
I was kinda disappointed with the Guerlain mascara’s. I’m absolutely LOVING the new UD lipsticks. I’m trying to control myself with buying more just yet. The JH face palette is gorgeous and I’m loving the VV eyeshadows. I’m still waiting patiently for the MUG new ones. And I’m geeking out over the ABH pallet. Soooooo pretty! The Givenchy lipstick and powder are amazing. Ugh. I love it all. I haven’t tried the Gerard lippies yet. I could do without the Huda lip contours though. And I was disappointed that a few of my Colour Pop lippies were gritty, but the rest were good.
I just ordered a few of the Jouer lip creams that I’m excited to try. Fingers crossed they live up to the hype.
Gritty? Oh no!! That’s terrible to hear. I wonder if it is a batch inconsistency or based on the color?
