Welcome to Free For Haul Friday!

  • Haul: I should get the Tom Ford Honeymoon quad today!
  • Weekend plans: Still have the Christmas tree to take down, LOL! Football on Sunday!
  • What do you need to start your day off right?: Latte! I’ve tried switching to tea (though I don’t take mine with milk or sugar), but the texture of a latte just makes me look forward to getting up.

Haul: a handful of Sephora glosses, Marc Jacobs Essential Hues Highliner set, and my ABH Glow Kit in Gleam should be arriving today!
Weekend Plans: Trader Joes and Costco to restock my pantry- I bring my lunch to work every day and i am running out of options lately, lol
Need to start my day off right: hot shower and a latte (I am very dependent on my Nespresso machine!)

Tammy B Avatar

Haul: Only one thing, but oh what a thing! I got the Urban Decay Gwen Stephanie lipstick in Firebird. I have to thank you Christine; if it weren’t for your hard work on this blog, I would not know about these wonderful products.

What gets me out of bed: Foremost, a good night’s sleep, followed by freshly ground Columbian coffee, strong and hot. Visitors cannot handle my coffee, I always have to make a weak pot for company. Last time my son and his wife had a cup of my coffee, my son said they almost had to go to the emergency room because they thought they were having heart attacks, lol.

Sarah Avatar

Haul- A physical trainer to get back in shape! This is costing at least three Rouge G lippies and a Tom Ford quad!
Weekend Plans- nursing my cold with netflix and tea.
Starting my day right- COFFEECOFFEECOFFEE and a post or two from Temptalia. 😀 <3

And please tell me your tree is fake!

I’m English so it’s tea, reminds me of a funny story in which I come off as a complete idiot.

I didn’t drink coffee until I was in my 30s, then coffee junkie friend asked me why and I explained it was too bitter, he then taught me how to fix this and I got the coffee bug. All my life I had been told that “tea has just as much caffeine in it as coffee you know” and having never drunk coffee I assumed it was true. It is not. I got myself a fancy coffee maker and spent the next day drinking it like I drink tea, which is at least 15 cups a day. Yes, I did end up on the floor whiting out and having heart palpitations.

My weekend will be spent swatching and organizing my really huge lipstick collection, right now I have no idea which is what or where anything is so grab one at random and base my makeup look around whatever it is. No idea what method I will employ yet but freezer bags will be involved.

Haul: Dior Spring: eyeshadow & liner duo in Twig, Glowing Pink powder and Floral Pink blush. I’m such a sucker for that floral embossing!

Weekend plans: I’m volunteering with a local search and rescue group to be a search quarry for a rescue dog in training. This means I’ll be sitting in the woods (in Canada, in January…brr!) until the dog can find me by scent!

I start my day off right with: a shower! I could never be someone who showers in the evening. I need a shower in the morning before work to wake myself up and feel refreshed!

Jess Avatar

I like them a lot. The blush gives such a pretty flush of pink to the cheeks and is perfect for spring. However, it should be noted that I’m on the fairer side (probably between MAC NC 15 and 20 right now), so YMMV in terms of pigment. My only tiny caveat is that highlighter is more shimmery than I was expecting — since it’s Dior, I was expecting a subtler, more sophisticated glow — but I still like it.

Lily Kelley Avatar

Bobbi Brown Pink Buff lipstick( had to return a Lancôme lipstick because it irritated my lips so I decided to give Bobby a try since you like this shade), Mars blush in Madly.
Take the boys to get their shots and get dog food and treats.
Coffee!

xoxo for the handsome Mellan from me and the boys. Have a great weekend Christine. Love the Mellan pic and your earings.

Mellan’s thinking, hmmm, wonder if my ears are too long for these?
*Haul – I’m in makeup junkie heavan this week! My UD Vice Reloaded palette came, and it’s stunning! I’ve swatched everything on my hands and tested a few on the eye. 2 shades that are so-so (Suspend and Misdemeanor) but fixable with a cream base or primer, all of the others are good to awesome. My mind is spinning with all the great color combos I can get out of this palette. And I finally caved on Chanel D’Illusion Ombre in Rouge Noir and Dior Illuminating Powder in Nude from the Glowing Gardens collection. OMG, the Dior Nude powder has barely even launched and is already sold out everywhere online, only a few Pink ones left. I trekked to 5 department stores to find the Nude, found 2 and got 1. I swatched it right next to Becca Opal Pressed Powder, and Opal is a +95% dupe. The Dior one is a little lighter, a little more metallic, a little smoother-looking, but has a lot less product ( .21 oz vs. .25 oz ) and is $18 more ($56 vs. $38). Both powders are gorgeous, but as soon as I saw the Dior one, I was a goner. All logic flew out the door. The silver compact, fancy embossing, and little kabuki brush are simply stunning and screams luxury. Just had to have it!
*Weekend – sort/organize makeup, play with Vice Reloaded, financial paperwork
*Microwave plain instant oatmeal with a chopped up ripe banana (so sweet, creamy, and healthy!) and a big cup of plain black tea.

Katherine T. Avatar

**I also did a big swatchfest at local stores and here are my opinions– the new Tom Ford shadow quads (Honeymoon swatched very well, it’s the Nude Dip formula, but 2 of the shades looked almost the same on my skin. All of the other quads are the regular formula, which I think is hit- or- miss. The SA told me Sahara Haze, Ice Queen, and Cognac Sable are being DC’d). Macy’s had 40 ABH single shadows on display (mixed bag, think most will fall into A-C ratings, recommend you buy only if you read reviews or can return/exchange), Sephora Panetone Watercolor shadow palette ( just horrible), Dior Glowing Gardens shadow kits (very sheer and colors all blended together), Laura Mercier Paris After the Rain kit ( the mattes are stiff and dry and the shimmer shades are mostly glitter, with very little base), Chanel D’Illusion Ombres ( Pink Moonlight is very subtle and sheer, Ocean Light is a mess, and Griffith Green did much better than it reviewed. I tried 4 different testers at 4 different stores. 1 tester was a bust (almost no color but it was really beat up) but the other 3 were smooth, build-able, and blended well, at least on my hands, I didn’t notice any color lifting off, so I wonder if there’s a QC issue. It is a complex, stunning color, a chameleon mix of green/teal/gray, hard to dupe, so I might go for it. The matching eyeliner is also very pretty but it’s only semi-opaque, but nice for a soft spring look )

Haul: I received my Beautylish Lucky Box containing a Wayne Goss Brow Brush Set, It Cosmetics finishing powder, travel size Bioderma, Becca Ombre Rouge palette, Jeffree Star lip scrub, and a Biiss Love Handles gel. Really pleased overall. Some I’ll keep and some I’ll trade or sell. Mostly, though, I’ve been stalking a future haul from the new Tom Ford Spring and Summer collections. I don’t have a counter anywhere near me, so am keen to see the quads applied, especially the ever popular Honeymoon eye shadow quad and the cream eye shadows. I’m planning to buy the LE cream Shade & Illuminate and LE lipstick “SS16”.

Weekend Plans: Going to a junior hockey game on Saturday; watching NFL football on Sunday.

Starting the day off right: A hot cup of coffee when I get up. I physically couldn’t leave the house without one.

Tracey E. Avatar

It was my first time buying one and liked that there was one bag vs. multiple that they tried last year. There are areas for improvement but IoverallI thought it was well done.

Tracey E. Avatar

Hi Katherine, I heard that Lavender Lust is the 4th Tom Ford quad to be discontinued. The manager of a nearby CCO store told me they placed an order for Tom Ford and expect product in 2-3 weeks. (I don’t know why CCO carries it but they have since June 2015 I’m told.) When I was there last fall, they had some quads in stock, a few lipsticks, and the under eye concealer pen that I can remember.

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh no! I don’t own any Tom Ford quads yet, only swatched in store. I didn’t like Ice Queen, but I thought Cognac Sable, Sahara Haze, and maybe Lavender Lust were his better quads, wonder why they’re being DC’d?? The SA told me the new quads were going to replace them, but I didn’t find the new ones all that impressive, except for maybe Honeymoon. So sad 🙁

Haul: Make Up For Ever artist shadow M548 Pink Gray and I864 Baby Pink, to use as contour and blush, respectively. I was super-impressed by both when I used them with the MUFE 160 blush brush. M548 looks cooler than Kevyn Aucoin’s sculpting powder on me, and, while also darker, blends beautifully. I864 blended out easily and beautifully to give me the subtle blush look I like. Both winners! Now, I have to exchange the third shade I bought, because, when I got home, I discovered that I already have it in a pre-made palette!
Weekend plans: stay out of the blizzard that’s coming our way! Reading up some more about esthiology as a career, as I’m talked to the admissions people for the only program in this area and will be taking a tour of the school next week.
I need coffee to start my day off right. We especially like home-brewed dark Sumatra Mandheling. That and some cheerful music 🙂

monica Avatar

Haul: I picked up the Belif eye cream, Korres Wild Rose face and eye serum, plus I picked up the Laura Mercier gwp set!

Weekend plans: getting a touch up, being a delivery sister haha, and hopefully some much needed cleaning

What do you need to start your day off right?: Coffee to save my life haha I try so hard to go to bed earlier but I don’t think it really makes that much of a difference for me.

monica Avatar

I will be layering them. I ran out of a serum and have been thinking about one for the eye area. I even considered bringing the oils that I’ve been using up to the eye, but I’m not sure if you’re supposed to do that.

Tova J Avatar

Haul: I finally got my ColourPop package! Kathleen Light “Where the Night Is” quad, LBB and Aquarius lippies! Aquarius is such a good everyday colour.
Weekend plans: I have a baking date with my boyfriend 😀

Nicole Avatar

Thank you for the link to your earring shop! That is a ton of earrings!
Haul: Tom Ford- HoneyMoon, Last Dance, SS16 Shade &Illuminate.
Urban Decay Ex Girlfriend and a back up Firebird and Firebird pencil . I’m trying to decide if the lipstick can live without the pencil. Then, I may return the pencil.
Weekend Plans: Supposed to get my hair colored this evening. A huge snow storm is rolling in so I’m hoping that works out. My daughter and I have been trapped in the house as she recovered from her eye muscle surgery. That went well and she is doing pretty good. 🙂 Also, have to go get new glasses because her glasses got broken in the car on the way home from the surgery! So, that was unexpected. But, oh well. We were going to need to do that soon.
What do I need to start my day: Coffee and about 3 alarms form my alarm clock ,lol

Nicole Avatar

No way, I would have never said that! just kidding. really like her necklaces . I may have to become an addict too.lol!
My hairdresser rescheduled the hair appointment and so far just a dusting! Figures!
Thank you- It was a rough-ish week. 3 days in the house is hard for a kid. For a kid with her eyes shut is misery. For the mom waiting on her is torture! 😀

Katherine T. Avatar

Nicole, glad to hear your daughter’s surgery went well! Whew. I tried the UD Firebird Lip Liner yesterday and quite like it. The color is really pretty, and I don’t have any dupes in my stash. Based on the D+ rating, I was expecting torture to apply, but it went onto my lips just fine, and I filled my lips in without any dragging or tugging. And I didn’t prep my lips at all, which were a little dry. But once it’s on, it starts feeling a little tight and dry, so I can see it becoming very dry if you wear by itself. But I’ll be fine because I use lip liners mainly to outline my lips, then I put lipstick and SPF lipbalm on top. I actually prefer my lip liners on the drier side because anything too creamy will slide off from all those layers. I have a regular UD lip liner, and it’s great, but a little too creamy for the way I wear my lipsticks. I also tried filling in my lips with Firebird, skipping the lipstick, and putting a lip balm on top, and I was fine. IDK, maybe some batches are better than others, because another blogger had the same application/dryness issues as you and Christine, so I got lucky.

Nicole Avatar

I’m glad the Firebird liner is working well for you Katherine. I like it too under lipstick. What SPF lip balm do you like over your lipstick? I like to do that too in warmer months especially. In winter, we get barely no sun it seems. but, I feel like most of them make my lipstick slide off.

Katherine T. Avatar

I use Carmex SPF15, the solid one in a tube. Yes, it tends to make my lipsticks slide off, so I’m still looking for a good one that wont. But it’s thick, moisturizing, cheap, and protects my lips. If I want my lipstick to last longer, I outline my lips with a drier lip liner, swipe a few strokes on my lips, fill in with with a matte lipstick, then dot on the SPF lip balm. My lips are really sensitive to sun (will burn within minutes, even in winter), so I have to wear SPF lip balm all day long. Lots of people complain about how dry the matte Colour Pop Lippie Stix are, but I love them, because with lip balm, they are perfect. I really wish there were more lipsticks/glosses with SPF built in, but nope.

Nicole Avatar

Your poor lips! I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks. Its true, they should add SPF into lipstick.I wonder if wearing it protects your lips more than not wearing it. Just a random thought.

Tracey E. Avatar

Hi Nicole, glad to hear your daughter’s surgery went well. Hopefully the snow won’t affect your plans. I chuckled at your alarm clock snoozing. I almost need to be prodded out of bed and have the alarms on so loud, I almost have to bolt myself out of bed. If my spouse has an early day, he sets his alarm so softly I don’t hear it, or him getting up, or him showering…I’m too sound a sleeper.

Haul: Kat Von D Lolita (I bought Lolita 2 weeks ago but decided to get Lolita online since it’s not available at any stores near me), Josie Maran nail wipes (I love these because they are so moisturizing and I can remove all ten fingernails of polish with just one wipe), and I purchased the entire OPI Hello Kitty collection lol
Weekend plans: probably gonna spend tomorrow with my family and Sunday I’ll be relaxing and binge watching Doctor Who and korean dramas on netflix
What do you need to start your day off right?: eat a nutritious breakfast

Christine Avatar

I’ve called six different stores/locations and the information is conflicting. Some say everything is permanent, some say everything is limited edition. Tom Ford PR/corporate office is saying that the S/S ’16 Runway shades (Shade + Illuminate and the Lip Color Shine) are limited edition and all the Cream Color for Eyes, which would mean everything else is permanent. I would say the most consistent answer I get is on the quads, and that they are all permanent. TomFord.com didn’t know anything – they could not even answer, period. I called, talked to online, they told me to call beauty, and beauty transferred me to online. Nobody knew.

Kam Avatar

I can help here. Limited Edition: SS16 Limited Edition Shade and Illuminate and SS16 Limited Edition Lip Color Shine. Everything else is permanent. 🙂 Some older palettes can now be thought of as limited edition because they are phasing them out. Like Cognac Sable. (I have a friend with TF benefits. Extreme benefits)

Kam Avatar

That is where my friend works. That is how I got the cream colors. I do not understand why information is so misleading unless to make more sales. For example the moodlight palette is permanent after so much controversy much like this. I am telling you what he is told. If he has been told wrong and I have told you wrong I’m very sorry. I hope you can correct this for everyone’s best interest. Thank you for all you do. Can I ask if back when you started the blog if you thought it would be such the place for beauty that it is now? Did you expect it? Hope? Has it exceeded what you planned? I go back to look at the awards and collected data. I can’t figure out how one person can accomplish that much in a year for years ongoing. You wow me. The Cle de Peau look sold me 311. What you said to me about good luck with KVD blush made me think. I’m happy with the UDxGwen pallette. If I need luck for an extra blush in your opinion I trust that. I looked at other B- grades like 311 quad and I liked some so you help me more than you know. People on here were offering to help you get the honeymoon quad. That is so nice! Do you see how big and trusted this site you made is? Curious. Point is I offered what I could back and I will feel awful if what I relayed is wrong. I hope you try the Givenchy highlighter! I added the link! Good luck tomorrow. ??

Christine Avatar

Please don’t feel badly – it is as frustrating for you as well as me! It is not that I don’t believe you, only that I’ve asked multiple sources, and I’ve also been keeping up with readers’ comments, and the information is inconsistent/contradicting 🙁 I am absolutely confident that you’re passing along the info exactly as told, because I have talked to Tom Ford associates (at actual Tom Ford stores as well as counters) and have had that information be conflicting as well. I called NYC Tom Ford, and they said everything is limited edition, for example! I typically defer to corporate so it’s clear where the source of info came, but I also am transparent and let readers know that information is presently conflicting due to XYZ being said.

Tracey E. Avatar

Tom Ford customer service is the worst. I’ve never found them to be helpful and they often pass me off to someone else who takes forever to get back to me, often not answering my questions.

Kam Avatar

How cute! Beautiful earrings! Hope he behaves?

•I went big early last week on Tom Ford, also received great palettes of blush and eyeshadow, not to mention over 30 more CP SuperShock shadows to add to my addiction so I have more than I need to play with and get to know but I thought I would continue using gift cards this week to end major purchases for a long time. I’m redoing my makeup room so I am saving for vanity, desk, drawers, muji organizers and lighting. So unless it is a need or really unique I will be playing and experimenting for probably the rest of the year now including this weeks haul. Gift cards though so I justified getting what I’d usually not buy minus a couple I do. HAUL: So I finally justified getting Cle de Peau The Collection Bal Masqué Coffret,
Cle de Peau quads in 311 Pewter Veil and 312 Blue Lagoon, Givenchy Poudre Lumière Originelle Soft Powder Radiance Enhancer which I love, Hourglass ASP in Iridescent, Burberry Wet/Dry Silk eyeshadow in #204 Mulberry, Christian Louboutin Nail Color in my favorite shade Sweet Charity from The Nudes, Bite Luminous Creme Lipstick in Kir Royal, and thanks to my good friend in Seoul, I chose to try the new SK-II Facial Treatment Oil. I also bought for others. I did that first. I was very lucky winning a few gift cards with large amounts to spend! I never win anything! Receiving generous gifts of gift cards during the holidays and new year also helped! I’m so so excited! ???
•This weekend I’m still playing with new things and researching for my project organization. Waiting for the week so my haul arrives! Some things were a last minute choice last night. Like the 311 quad. (Thanks Christine!) ?
•First thing in the morning I need tea and a healthy protein grains breakfast to start my day off right. ☕️?

Mariella Avatar

Haul: finally got my mitts on Dior Glowing Pink Nude Air Glowing Gardens Illuminating Powder (what a mouthful!) – it still hadn’t arrived at Sephora (despite the online “finder” saying it was there; ditto TF Chocolate Bon Bons!) so I went to my lovely lady at The Bay and grabbed the 2nd last one. I also got some Lush Tea Tree spray toner (my first Lush purchase – DD got me a GC ages ago and I’ve just never known what to get there!). I figure this spray will be great for India!
Weekend plans: gym and then prepping some appetizers to take to MIL’s 91st birthday on Saturday. Sunday – visiting with a friend who is in from out of town.
What I need to get going in the morning – my morning coffee, which my hubby always makes and brings to me and a bit of time to chat with him before we start getting ready for the day ahead.

Mariella Avatar

I’d looked at their online site and also at reviews on MUA but I always end up forgetting what it was I was interested in checking out (the only thing I consistently remember is that tea tree spray). There’s a shower gel – and now I think it’s the one called Dirty – that I might want to try but I’d already finished at the register by the time I took a look and figured out which product it was I’d also been thinking of.

Julia Avatar

If you have any GC balance left for Lush I really recommend their shampoo bars – I love them for travel because I am always maxing out my “liquids bag” and the bars can just go right in your makeup bag or suitcase. They sell a little tin to carry in, too. 🙂

Haul:
*UD Gwen Stefani Blush Palette and Firebird Lipstick. I love them both beyond words! I’m obsessed with Firebird. <3 <3 <3

*OCC Lip Tars in Mosh and Derelict. I thought I'd missed out because OCC website sold out fast, but All Cosmetics Wholesale had them.

Weekend plans: Grabbing the UD Vice Ltd. XX Reloaded palette on Sunday.

What do you need to start your day off right?: Hot tea and my allergy meds.

Denise S. Avatar

Love your earrings! I have some similar styles.
Haul: Viseart Dark Matte and Bridal Satin palettes. The eyeshadows are great quality! I went to Macy’s and brought the Anastasia Glow highlighter kit in That Glow. They are nicely sized , smooth and very pretty. And I picked up Covergirl “trunaked golden ” palette and Loreal Colour Riche liquid lipstick in Rose Symphony at CVS. Urban Decay super saturated lip gloss in F-Bomb on sale at Nordstrom Rack.

Weekend Plans: Wash my hair, some housework, might go to the movies with my daughter to see The Revenant.

What do you need to start your day off right?: Coffee, exercise, meditation and prayer! If I can do all those things at the beginning or early in my day. I’m off to a good start!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Mellan is so good! My cats would have had that torn apart 😉 I love your earring organizer. I have the spinning racks (like in department stores) but then I have to buy the earring cards to hang them if the pair doesn’t already come on one.

Haul:
Neiman Marcus (2 Orders): Lollia Calm Perfumed Dusting Powder (2, one for my daughter), Lollia Calm Wrapped Soap, Diorskin Forever Loose Powder, 10 Free Samples. Had to order the Dior powder since I love the new foundation and primer. I don’t have the order yet that had the powder though. (Supposed to be Saturday but I doubt I’ll get it.)

Target: Defy & Inspire Nail Polish (Storm Chaser and Girls Tell All). i received Storm Chaser today and am planning on trying tomorrow.

Skincare by Alana (15% Off): Petite Sizes of Lollia Wish and Calm Hand Creams and Eau de Parfum. Supposed to receive this Saturday…but doubt I will.

Nordstrom: MAC Rebeleyes Gel Eyeliner (Black), MAC Faerie Wishes Iridescent Pressed Powder (Sparkling Rose), Mario Badescu Anti Acne Serum, Mario Badescu Peptide Renewal Serum, Mario Badescu Restore & Repair Evening Essentials (Duo), 28 Piece GWP, 2 Piece Clarins GWP, 3 Free Samples. YAY – I got my MAC powder backup! (Actually Nordstrom just shipped so I won’t have this until next week.)

Sephora: Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gels (Lady Luck and Fuchsia Fiesta), Formula X Alchemy II (because of your review!), Dr. Brandt Skincare Needles No More Deluxe Samples, 3 Free Samples. UPS says this is out for delivery today but I’m not sure if I’ll get it.

Weekend plans: Winter Storm Jonas started her about 2 hours ago. We already have a few inches on the ground. My area is in the bulls-eye and they’re predicting anywhere around 30-36 inches of snow. So….

What do you need to start your day off right?: At least 2 cups of freshly ground Costa Rican coffee (preferably from the coffee roasters I go to out of state or Gevalia if I don’t have the really good stuff) with half and half. Then a nice warm shower with a scented body wash or scrub.

Katherine T. Avatar

Hey Michelle, you hauled some nice stuff. I tested the Ole Sugar Scrub but unfortunately, I have to re-test. It’s a small sample container, so the directions listed are in very fine font the size of a flea (no joke), so I just followed the directions listed on Sephora’s website, which turned out to be all wrong. Even Ole’s website has conflicting directions. It’ll probably be a week before my face is ready to be exfoliated again, so will report back next week. Can you let me know how you like the MAC Sparkling Rose powder?

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh, glad you like it so much! Do you find it more pink or more beige? I tried to find in stores to swatch, but it was sold out, and some of the online swatches look more beige and others look more white/pink. For powders, beige is more flattering than pink on me.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Katherine, the MAC powder on me is more pink than beige; I would say it’s just barely to the cooler side of neutral but not full on cool. I think the other shade in the collection, Pearly Sunshine, is the one that leans warmer. What I like about this powder is the fact that it gives glow without too much sparkle. Sparkling Rose is more of a neutral pink but has roughly the same intensity on application as the Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick in Pastel Pink. It’s really more of a sheen. The Laura Geller ones, French Vanilla and Portofino as a comparison, have more beige but are most definitely more shimmery. The LG newest one in Rose Gold is even more shimmery that FV and Portofino and is a clear shade of rose gold – extremely pigmented and a mid-tone rose gold shade.

Katherine T. Avatar

Thanks Michelle! That was extremely helpful. I try to swatch highlighters in-store but sometimes they don’t have the product or the tester is gone, so nice to have someone compare so many for me 🙂

Nancy T Avatar

Now THAT’S an earring collection!!! I followed the link to @bellaanna, and wow! Just realized she uses semi-precious stones, black pearls, etc. Simply gorgeous creations!

Haul: Nada thing. But wanted to….

Weekend plans: Same as always; wash, deep condition and blow out straight & sleek this rather unwieldy mass of long fluff! (I secretly believe it may be time to go shorter, although that’ll make straightening more difficult) Do nails. Go to meeting Sunday.

What do you need to start your day off right: A 16 oz. mug of COFFEE!!! Oh, and feed the kitties who wake me up with meowing, yowling (Scunci!), and jumping over me, so that I can peacefully enjoy mi cafe´ con dulce y leche´!

Erin Avatar

Haul: I just got my Glossier Milky Jelly cleanser in the mail. I’m feeling like a Sephora date with myself is needed though as I’m pretty down at the moment. I just got news that due to military service, I’ll be seeing my husband about 15 days over the next two years. Since we planned to start trying for a child when he got back from this training (3 months) and now we can’t. That will put me at 39 when we can finally start. I’m devastated and feel that financial recklessness with skincare and makeup is a more positive coping mechanism than spending it on booze.

Weekend Plans: Take my pup for a walk today, possibly spend money I don’t have to cheer myself up, clean the house in preparation for an electrical inspection on monday. Hopefully they will find what cause the electrical fires we had.

Kicking off the morning: My preferred mornings would include Chai and relaxing with a magazine or blogs. A nice breakfast would be tops too. My normal morning does need a hot beverage though, regardless of the nature of it. Comfy lounge clothes included as well as fur kid cuddles. I’d like to be able say working out and a smoothie or green juice but I’m not there yet :p

Meghan Avatar

Those are some beautiful earrings! And yes, it’s time to take the tree down LOL!!

Haul: Nothing this week! I haven’t bought any makeup yet this year if you can believe it!
Weekend plans: It’s my mom’s birthday today, so we both took the afternoon off to hang out 🙂 we’re having a Harry Potter marathon this weekend! And we’ll go for a run
What do you need to start your day off right?: A healthy breakfast! I need to eat!! 😀

Anne Avatar

Haul: I picked up the Sephora Collection Fan Brush as I was sorely lacking one. I also went by the NARS counter at Nordstrom to get shade-matched for Sheer Glow, and ended up leaving with it, Laguna, Orgasm, a slightly darker shade of concealer, and their loose powder. Eeek. Also congrats on finally tracking down Honeymoon!

Weekend plans: I also need to still get the tree down, which may or may not happen. Getting a haircut on Saturday, but not much otherwise.

What do you need to start your day off right?: Definitely a nice cup of tea. I finally invested in the Teavana Perfectea Maker and it is so much nicer. I also find better quality tea to have a much nicer texture than the standard grocery store ones. I also take my tea without anything else, though I definitely get why the texture of a latte (or in my case a good steamed Chai) makes waking up something to look forward to!

Anne Avatar

Oh definitely! I think a bunch of the products were so hyped up that I didn’t bother trying them, but when she used them on my face I was like “OMG I need this in my life” and I’ve worn them quite a bit since. I never though the Orgasm blush would be one I’d like as it’s kind of shimmer-y and I usually hate that, but somehow it works on me. And all the other items are just amazing.

Haul: I have UD Firebird and 714 on their way to me along with the Viseart Editorial Brights palette!
Weekend Plans: Just work and read for my courses!
What do you need to start your day off right?: Definitely the time to do my makeup and drink a cup of coffee!

Haul: still waiting for FACE Stockholm creme blush-on in rome, lipsticks in fame factory and naked, DHC premium ge lipstick in BE111, ABH clear brow gel and a couple beauty blenders. Christine, you asked me last time about the DHC premium ge lipsticks and I like these so far. Musingsofamuse has a thorough review but in short: scent/flavor-free highly emollient and sheer moisturizing lipstiicks. The moisture lasts longer than the color (~2hours). RS105 is my current favorite.

Weekend plans: cleaning to get ready for the Lunar New Year. Packing for a trip to the snow. Never been to snow so I might have to figure out what I need as far as beauty.

What do you need to start your day off right? Coffee and whole-wheat toast with almond butter and an egg. A pear too if I have time. I am on my feet as soon as I’m out the door for several hours so first nourishment of the day has to hold me over for a while.

Haul: Backups of skincare I already use plus the Origins Drink Up mask (it made my skin SO smooth!) and the Sephora Collection Total Age Defy eye cream (I’ve been told it’s never too early to start using some kind of eye cream, and I’m a firm believer in preventative skincare). Oh, and a double sided Z Palette for my eyeshadows! I am forever staving off the day I’ll have to separate them into two separate palettes. Some new jeans and textbooks (blegh!), and a new powder brush (Too Faced Mr. Right).

Weekend plans: Well, we’re supposed to get slammed with the blizzard tomorrow, so my plans all depend on that. I’m hoping to run some errands tomorrow, but we’ll see. And on Sunday, hopefully I’ll be able to take the train back to school (my mom refuses to drive me in the snow, and I don’t blame her!), but if the train lines are closed I’ll go back Monday (and hopefully if the lines are closed on Sunday, we won’t have class on Monday! What a bad omen it’d be if I missed the first class day of the semester).

What I need to start my day off right: I’m not a coffee fan (too harsh on my stomach), but I love a cup of Earl Grey tea! Also a nice shower, and being able to get up early enough not to have to rush.

*Haul-I went a little crazy with Colourpop ? I got 8 shadows (Central Perk, Stereo, Mixed Tape, DGAF, Boy Band, Plaid, Dance Party, Rhinestone), 2 blushes (Cruel Intentions and Never Been Kissed), and 2 lippie stix (Grunge and Boogie). I wanted Jellies and Dr. M but they were out of stock ? but, I recently got a LA Splash Dia De Los Muertos Lip Lustre in Sangre Azul, which is such a beautiful blue! I just recently went to Ulta for the first time (Shh! Don’t tell my boss! ?) and I bought the Japonesque Pixelated Color Palette. Online from Ulta, I got Nyx Proof It! Eyebrow Primer, Nyx Unraveled Set (Includes a 6 shadow palette, matte lipstick, black liquid liner, and a black jumbo eye pencil) and Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Sandstorm. From Sephora, a few Sephora Col. lipglosses that were on sale, a SC Concealer that I’m returning because it’s too dark and a SC eyebrow pencil in soft charcoal. Lastly, I bought my mom the TF Chocolate Bon Bon Palette. I’m going to try to chill out with the spending, except for the UD Spectrum Palette!
*Weekend plans- Not sure yet. They’re filming a movie near my job so maybe I’ll go check that out.
*What do you need to start your day off right- A red bull or an iced frappe! Sometimes both! Since my job starts really early when most people are still asleep, I really need my caffeine!

I only have one, but so far I really like it! It’s really pigmented, it goes on smoothly and doesn’t make my lips feel even more dry than they are, and my lips were chapped and dry when I first tried It. I was able to reapply where needed after eating something oily easily. Also, it’s very long- lasting!

Forgot to mention checking on here. It is part of my routine now – I get up, feed my cats, start my tea and check here to see what’s new or comment, or check on a dupe. I love it! It all makes for a nice leisurely getting-ready-in-the-morning time.

Nothing original this time around – I wanted to theme it, like everyone bring a dish or two from the team they thought would make the playoff/win but I think that was too complicated after a couple of glasses of wine, ha. We decided on baby back ribs, potato skins, cheesy bread, veggie tray and dip, chili, meatballs and sauce, cold cuts and sandwich fixin’s, chips and dip and either fruit or fruit salad. I won’t have to cook for a couple of weeks after!

Yes, ha! 3 couples and their teenage sons (4) may drop by later – can you believe that, not one girl in the lot of them. We are all doubling our recipes – they’re like locusts!

Haul: I picked up one of the LE lipstick shades from Sonia Kashuk’s Bazaar collection.
Weekend plans: Working, hopefully only when I’m actually scheduled. We’re right on the edge of the blizzard hitting the Northeast right now, so the amount of snowfall we’re getting could be anywhere from 3-6 inches to a foot. The city has already declared a state of emergency in preparation, so if there are mass call offs due to snowfall tomorrow, those of us who are hospital workers are stuck providing coverage until we’re relieved.
What do you need to start your day off right?: A decent amount of sleep and some tea. I also need a good half hour to really wake myself up and get it together. Anything less, and I tend to wind up running late.

Haul: lots of cool stuff from the anime convention at the beginning of the week (gifts for neighbors, fiancee and boss man)
Weekend plans: Mapping out detailed embroidery for a costume. It took a while but it’s finally done! Now to scan it and color it for print.

I just wanted to let you know that I finally just made my first purchase of Angela’s gorgeous cluster dangle earrings (the aqua-to purple-to pink), thanks to you. I remember asking you about where you got your earrings quite a while back, and I’ve been admiring her work since then. I am so excited to get them! I’m positive you’ve brought her tons of business. I’m so good-naturedly envious of your collection. Lol. Which ones are your favorites, if I may ask?
