Free for Haul Friday, Volume #296
Welcome to Free For Haul Friday!
- Haul: Bite Beauty Opal gloss and lipstick
- Weekend plans: More de-cluttering! I need to pull more things out for donation.
- Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Nope, not really! It’s super busy here at home, so mostly just trying to get through my daily tasks, haha!
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
This week’s Mellan photo…
Someone’s supervising!
Mellan is so cute!
Haul: Becca Champagne Pop! It’s so pretty! I surprisingly don’t have anything similar.
Weekend plans: possibly going to Sailfest for the fireworks on the water 😀
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Trying to visit as many friends as possible on a non-tour year. I’m going to Rochester and Michigan.
So glad you scored Champagne Pop! It is a very pretty shade!
Clinique skincare, Clinique li balm in Mango, Dior lipstick x1
No plans for the weekend. Just relax and watch some movies.
Not this summer, maybe next year I will go home to Madrid.
Mellan looks so handsome supervising you. xoxo for him from me and the boys. Have great weekend Christine.
Glad you’ll have a nice relaxing weekend, Lily!
Haul: BareMinerals Work – Weekend – Wow palette. Still on the fence about it…
Weekend plans: To the beach or pool with my nieces on Sunday.
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Heading to Ohio for my nephew’s wedding on Labor Day weekend!
What aren’t you liking about the bareMinerals palette, Alix?
Just not sure I’m going to use all the shades! I feel as though I’ve been spendy lately, and this was a bit of an impulse purchase, so…
Ahh, gotcha! 🙂
Haul: MAC matte lipsticks in Instigator (LOVE!!), Antique Velvet and D for Danger. Also the Hard Candy Stay Matte primer
Weekend plans: Working and just hanging out at home! Nothing too exciing
Summer travel plans: My husband and I are going to Auckland and Fiji in September. I gonna consider that summer 🙂
Instigator is such a cool color!
Love, love, love your Mellan pics! Also, apparently my cat does too bc when she saw the pic she hopped up and tried to pet him!
Haul: I also bought Bite Beauty Opal gloss and lipstick (great minds!) – haven’t tried them yet but plan to tomorrow. Strongly leaning toward getting Barberry which has been in my cart all week. Bought the Benjabelle brush tree and base spinner; I used it already and I am kicking myself for not getting it sooner! Also bought Smashbox BB Water in Fair/Light (color was online matched but it’s a bit light for me and casts pink even though it’s classified as warm ivory) and a gel liner in Smoke (got an eye shadow duo with brush, mascara, and BB with that); picked up 2 of the Amazing Cosmetics face primer from Ulta for 50% off ($17 instead of $34); John Freida Secret Weapon Cream and Tresemme mousse bc I heard they were great for fine hair to fight humidity (we’ll see!); Trish McEvoy bronzer refill and eye lift from Nordstrom for 20% off (and got that super cute cosmetics bag – the Sorry Not Sorry one – and a ton of samples with that); UD shadows in Tonic and Asphyxia; Korres milk soap; Sephora Collection contour in Tranquil bc of your post. With so many Sephora orders, I got a bunch of Armani #2’s and emptied them all out into a glass cosmetics jar. I think it will be easier to use instead of out of a packet. It looks like the Armani is going to be a winner for me; something I will purchase in the future.
Weekend plans: I need to return a pair of wedge sandals to DSW that I ordered online. I bought them bc they’re super cute but my lack of coordination tells me the heel height is going to cause me an ER visit if I keep them! I always do my mani/pedi Fri or Sat…not sure what this week’s colors will be. We might be getting a break in our months of rain this weekend so I may take a drive with a friend.
Do you have any summer traveling plans? Not yet and I guess I better think about it bc we’re almost mid-July!
Haha! 😉 You know, he’s only met one cat, and he was super curious but the cat didn’t want anything to do with him!
I have learned over the years that shorter heels are my jam, if I’m going to do heels. The taller ones look so pretty, but I know I can’t wear them, lol!
aaaawwwnnn… She’s sooo cute! I want one! <3
Thank you!
Haul: My first Lady Moss order/Haul
Form NYX:
Wonder Pencil in 01-Light (It’s been 8 month and NYX still hasn’t stock this shade in Canada stores. 🙁 )
Color Correcting Powder in 03-Banana
Highlight & Contour Pro Palette
Micro Brow Pencil in 01 – Taupe and 03 – Auburn
The Skinny Mascara (LOVE)
From L.A. Girl:
Pro Concealer in Porcelain
Matte Pigment Gloss in Playful & Fantasy.
Weekend plans: More work and box purging.
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Nope. My travel plans are usually in May and June. 😉
I can’t believe the NYX pencil is still not in stock in Canada!
Yeah, it’s strange/frustrating since the two deeper shades are in stock of the Wonder Pencils and I’ve seen the restock of them. It could be just my area, but my 2 Rexalls just never seem to get them and even my Target before the closure just had the 2 deeper shades. >_<
Haul: Big ColourPop order: Effect and Raven shadows, Leather and Grind lippie sticks, Prenup and Rain blushes, Sticky Sweet and Spoon highlighters, Road Trip tye-dye highlighter. Also ordered a few things from My Pretty Zombie’s sale but right now her TAT is like a month so I won’t get them for a while.
Weekend Plans: Lunch in the city today, housework tomorrow, sighting in husband’s new competition rifle Sunday.
Summer travel plans: We already had my brother’s (in Idaho) and brother-in-law’s (in South Dakota) weddings, and our week at the lake cabin (in Minnesota). Going to DC for a weekend at some point in Aug/Sept, and then a friend’s wedding in Florida in October.
Nice ColourPop order, Alice! 🙂
Sounds like you’re going to be all over the country this year!!
Mellan keeping an eye on the Too Faced goodies, eh?
Haul: Some cheap-ass drugstore sunscreen that bought in desperation (can’t find the right one for my skin) and so far I’m LOVING it :-O Pleasant surprise.
Weekend plans: Leaving for France!
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: France first, then Belgium for my wedding and then Hawaii for the honeymoon!
What drugstore sunscreen was it?
From our supermarket’s own brand, Coop.
Have a great weekend Christine! If you’re de littering makeup donate them to meeeeeeeee
Thanks, Jenny! You, too!
Haul: only 1 thing – they finally got MAC Silver Sun back in stock at The Bay near me so I picked that up.
Weekend plans: washing my lovely new car, putting mulch down in the garden, yoga and maybe the gym
Summer travel plans: much as I would love to return Sardinia for an extended stay, we’re going to India this February (not by choice – it’s not somewhere I’m keen to visit but my best friend’s son and his wife, who is from India, are having their traditional Indian wedding there and there is no way I’d miss this). So that and my new car have pretty much eaten into our travel budget for the next year.
YAY! Glad you were able to finally snag Silver Sun.
Haul: Nothing this week. Still feeling excited from last week’s mini-haul, so that’s helped keep new temptation at bay. 😉
Weekend plans: Just housekeeping. My husband has a big test on Monday, and I’m hoping that an extra-clean house will help him feel comfortable and focused while he studies 🙂 (I like listening to podcasts or audiobooks while I clean, so it’s a relaxing thing for me, too.)
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Just staycationing in my current home-away-from-home. We’re going to a natural hot springs after Monday’s test! Should be fun.
Best of luck to your husband on his test 🙂
◾Haul: Shea Moisture Sheer Foundation (which isn’t all that sheer)
◾Weekend plans: Cleaning/Organizing my room
◾Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Yes but only b/c the trip was an early birthday gift. Going to Palm Springs with my younger sister 🙂 Neither of us have been so we’re excited.
The question is… did you want it to be sheer? lol!
Haul: 12 MUFE Artist Shadows, Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum
Speaking of Artist Shadows, I was wondering if you could do a favorites/recommended because there are so many colors! I remember your ones for Inglot shadows and how helpful they were.
No plans besides just relax and maybe do some yardwork and nope, no trips in sight for me.
I haven’t quite finished reviewing them yet, but when I eventually do, I’d be happy to make recommendations!
Whenever I see Mellan, it always makes me want a dog. But my cat wouldn’t like that…
Haul: Bite Barbarry and Opal Glass. Laura Mercier caviar sticks in Orchid and Plum. Marc Jacobs concealer pen. Couple pairs of Asics shoes. Some sweats, a lightweight flannel shirt and a couple tote bags from Nordie’s anniversary sale.
Weekend plan: Light gardening.
Summer travel plans: Nothing definite right now. Mostly play it by ear.
What kind of gardening will you be doing, Di?
Haul: Sephora box coming today, includes Barberry and a few of those matte contour eyeliners
Weekend Plans: No idea, hopefully something active as I have been quite the lazy turd lately. Also grocery shopping.
Summer traveling plans: OH HECK YES, we’re going to Portland next month and Louisville over Labor Day 😀
Mellan’s such a good boy, my corgi would have ripped those boxes apart by now!
Barberry!!
Aww, Mellan is guarding the makeup!
*Haul – BITE lippies!
*Weekend Plans – work, relax
*Summer Travel Plans – nothing at this point, waiting until the kid gets a little older before we travel
*Nicole, hope your surgery today went well. The BITE Frozen Berry Lippies came last night. Plum and Barberry are gorgeous and leave behind a nice stain. I’m getting another backup of Barberry. I will probably be returning Opal Lip Gloss – the iridescent shimmer is too subtle for me, and I don’t think it shows up that well over many of my lipsticks. I will keep Opal Lipstick — the pink purple iridescent sheen is still subtle but more noticeable. But if you’re looking for crazy shimmer or holographic effects, this is not for you. IMO, this works best over matte lipsticks, as glossier lippies “water down” the sheen so much it’s hard to see. Opal Lipstick will add a slightly metallic iridescent sheen to a matte lippie, add some moisture and shine to a drier lippie, will lighten up a lippie by half a shade, and add a light pinkness to nude lippies, so this is a useful and fun one to play with. The formula is smooth, easy to wear, and it’s not frosty. I’m especially liking Opal Lipstick over my matte purple and pink lipsticks. If you want the iridescent sheen to really “pop” add Opal Lipstick over the stain left behind from BITE Plum or Barberry. Anyways, I hope this helps. I see Christine has also got these Opal lippies, so I’m curious to see what her take is on these 🙂
So glad you were able to grab those Bite lipsticks! 🙂
Oh, I want to add……if you wear the Opal Gloss or Opal Lipstick by itself, you can definitely see the iridescent sheen well, but since it’s so cool-toned ( there’s a blue-ish sheen to the pink/purple), I prefer to wear over lipstick.
Hey Katherine, I just made it home today! The hospital stay was rough and I was doing a quick check in and noticed Christine’s review of the gloss and lipstick. Since both she and you tend to favor the lipstick and my gloss is in a box still, I’m going to snatch up a lipstick while I can. I definitely like the look of the lipstick layered on Christine’s photos. Looks like I will be exchanging the gloss. You should check out the Bare Minerals Hypnoist if you are interested in something with that slight holographic effect. I usually put it over the Urban Decay clear lipliner to extend wear. Its pretty over lipstick as well.Thank you for posting the details for me. I have about 4 boxes waiting for me to open which is nice since I have a bunch of mail and laundry too and am super tired. The surgery went good though according to the surgeon. He found a large vein basically wrapped around my Trigeminal nerve. He wound up having to ligate it and that required about 5 hours on my side on the table. So, I feel beat up. I’m having pain still. But ,overall, it’s different. So, since nerves take time to settle down, hopefully, this may be a good outcome for me. I appreciate your well wishes and I saw so many from so many in the community- it made me so happy. Christine, your one in a million, for being able to attract so many wonderful people who stick around. Hugs to you both. I’ll be chiming back in ..lots to catch up on! 🙂
NICOLEEEEEEEE! I AM SO GLAD YOU STOPPED IN!
Happy to hear the surgery went well so far, and fingers crossed everything just keeps getting better and better. Ahh, I am just so glad you’re home and on the mend 🙂
Haha! I just am prying my aching self out of bed and noticed this in my emails. You are so sweet! 🙂
Haha! 🙂 Get some rest + relax now that the surgery is behind you!
Nicole, so glad you are back!!! <3 I was getting worried… SO glad the surgery went well, hope they found the problem once and for all, and you will feel even better very soon. We miss you!! I knew you would be ALL OVER the reviews of Bite Opal LOL Anyways, I will check out BM Hypnotist -thanks for the tip. And hope you get some rest too. I'm going to be in a bunch of meetings this morning, so won't be able to reply until this afternoon
No worries Katherine. Take your time. I have so much to get caught up on. But, I just want to read Temptalia, lol! Thanks for your concern. I had a few rough days in the hospital and the surgery was longer than expected. But, being a nurse I knew the importance of making myself get out of the bed and stuff like that in order to get myself out of the hospital. I am feeling better every day.So, I am feeling positive about this! 😀
Haul: Urban Decay eyeshadows, Fireball and Loaded. Eyeliner in Stash and Triple Threat travel set.
Weekend plans: Friend’s birthday party
Summer travel: San Antonio, TX, Cancun, St. Thomas
Fireball! Yay!
Haul: Lorac Pro Matte Palette, Becca Champagne Pop, UD Moondust shadow in Zodiac
Weekend plans: catching up with my bf tonight! (It’s been a rough week, so date night is needed) and probably laying by the pool with my fams as well.
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: traveling to Vermont (I live in NY) in August! Going into the mountains to get away from everything!
A nice balance of shimmer and matte 😀
My room is usually full of shipping boxes, and whenever I clean them out, my cat cries and pouts for a day because I took away her hiding places 🙂
Haul: LA Girl concealer (got 1 shade too dark, using more as a corrector since it’s quite orangey, will buy right shade though because formula is A+), Morphe brush (509, v. similar to MAC 137, still I’m not sure if I like the brand or not bc of mixed experiences), MAC Peaches blush pan (new favorite!), and I was able to get my hands on Margherita from the Giambattista collection yesterday along with a Cosmo lipstick (vastly underrated color, imo). I also got a replacement Studio Fix fluid and TF Primed and Poreless primer since I’m scraping the barrel on both of those! Oh, and my new glasses came in the mail!
Weekend plans: working on Saturday and going into the city on Sunday, as per usual. I want to try to find Bite Barberry in store, since the Sephora I went into a few times this week didn’t have it out even though the website said it was in stock there. I want to make sure it suits me before buying. Also I have tons of homework for my integral calculus class, which started on Tuesday. It’s so much work since we’re doing a whole semester’s worth of math in 6 weeks, but I love it.
Summer travel plans: Yup! My (pretty small) family reunion is on Pawley’s Island (near Myrtle Beach, SC) every year and I couldn’t go last year because it was after school starting, but this year my brother and I are going for almost a week! It’s amazing, the houses on the island are all over the beach on stilts kind of, since the island’s only about 3.5 miles long and a house wide! At high tide you stand on the back porch and you’re over the ocean. My family’s been going there since before my grandfather was born.
Cat in a box, I hear, is a classic!
So glad you were able to get Margherita from the new launch! They seemed to go quite fast.
They went crazy fast! And I wasn’t even planning on getting Margherita because I’ve never worn anything like that before. In store none of the other shades I’d normally gravitate towards called to me and I was planning on leaving empty handed, but I saw a woman apply Margherita and it looked amazing on her, so I nabbed one of the last tubes. It’s surprisingly wearable.
Haul: I received my Stila Watercolor Blush and YSL Pop Water Glossy Stain, didn’t buy anything else this week.
Week-end plans: my brother and nephew are visiting from France so we’ll do some sight-seeing!
Summer travelling plans: hoping to go to Hawaii in September, fingers crossed!
Have fun with your brother and nephew, Lulle!
Mellan looks so serious. I love his anchor bow tie. I have soft spot for the nautical look. When I was about four years old, I was obsessed with this baby blue sailor dress I had. Nowdays, I punk the look up a little, but it’s the only remotely preppy look I like.
Haul: My last ColourPop ordered arrived today. I didn’t snag any of the new liquid lippies, as I just couldn’t get the website to work when they released, and then they were sold out. I don’t mind waiting till they restock.
I got a bunch of shadows I’d been eyeing (forgive the pun): Rumer Has It Raven, On the Rocks, Smash, Sequin, Drift, Partridge, Doe-A-Deer, Get Lucky, and Game Face. This week, I also got the LORAC Pro Metal Palette. I love it, and it goes wonderfully with the Unzipped Gold Palette. I also grabbed Nyx High Voltage Lipsticks in Dahlia and Burlesque.
Weekend plans: I’m hoping to finally paint the vanity/rolltop desk in my makeup room.
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Not really, but we’ll probably make a couple coast trips and maybe some camping.
It’s just festive enough to be patriotic, but it’s not over-the-top! 🙂
That is a very nice ColourPop haul, Rachel! Lots of goides there — Game Face and Get Lucky are so nice!
Game Face and Get Lucky and both amazingly beautiful in person. I’m very pleased with all the shades. Of course, there are a million more I want… 🙂
Have a great weekend and give Mellan hugs for me.
I almost got Drift, but then foolishly removed it from my cart. UGH! I should have purchased it in place of Eye Candy. Well, I suppose I’ll have to place another Colour Pop order because Drift is LE and I NEED that in my life! (What was I thinking!?!) May as well pick up Sequin while I’m at it. And Cricket. And maybe Hustle… LOL
Well, there are worse things in life than having an excuse to place another ColourPop order. Drift is super-gorgeous. I don’t know why I didn’t get it sooner. Cricket and Hustle were some of the first shades I bought. They’re so beautiful. Sequin is flat out stunning. Another one that I don’t know why I didn’t get it sooner. I think I was obsessed with getting all the bright, sparkly pinks and purples first.
One thing I’ve learned about Colour Pop is that, no matter how many swatches you see or how great those swatches are, the shadows are so much more beautiful in person than you ever expected them to be. La La really blew me away. I did place another order. I got two of the four shadows I mentioned, then I veered down a different path. =)
Mellan’s like, “But I have to supervise, Mama human!” So cute! My 3 kitties do this too, and then the one will scritch-scratch the heck out of it, haha!
Haul: Received my big, juicy ColourPop order on Monday, YAY! Got: Bae, Hustle, Girly, Shameless, So Quiche, and Coconut eyeshadows, Rain blush ( too light, aarrgh!!!), Grind Lippie Stick ( love it more than Heroine!). All in all, I’m pleased so far, except Rain is much lighter than I expected. Also got Nyx Taupe blush and the Mosaic Blush in Highlighter, Taupe is great, but Highlighter is pretty icy cool, looks like ColourPop Hippo a bit?
Weekend plans: same as ever, hair blowout, too drained though from Tuesday’s procedure, but I have to at least do my hair. I may go out for a bit today after being couped up since Tuesday. Perhaps Sephora for a “treat”? Perhaps UD Tonic…hmmmm. If so, I’ll update my haul, LoL!
Do you have summer traveling plans: No, but I wish I could go visit back east in NJ & NY! I really miss it and still have my best friend back there. It would be so nice to go visit her!
LOL! He has to smell every box as it gets flattened.
I hope you feel better soon, Nancy! 🙂
He’s a cutie doing that! My Pookie just shreds them, but she gets all perturbed when I finally toss them out, lol!
Thank you! I have a BAD case of cabin-fever and am getting impatient with my body at this point. I know I just have to give it time.
Haul: ELF Small Stipple Brush, Sigma E45 (small tapered blending brush), Sephora Dry Clean Solid Brush Cleaner, Dr. Weil Origins Mega Bright serum, Kat Von D Immortal Lash mascara, and then some shiny, happy Bath & Body Works shower gel/lotion/body splash in Pink Lemonade Fizz, which smells pretty much exactly like you’d expect from the name. 🙂
Weekend Plans: decompressing from another stressful week, haircuts and probably a baseball game.
Summer Travel Plans: Not sure. My partner just left her job and we’re talking about taking a shortish trip–maybe a week–before she really starts looking for a new job.
Mellan is being very helpful there. 🙂
Hope you can squeeze in a little trip to have fun before the real work begins again 🙂
Let me know if the Sephora solid brush cleanser is any good!
Haul: a new pair of converse that were on sale, homemade soap from a farmer’s market
Weekend Plans: going for drinks and dancing for a friend’s belated bday
Do you have any summer travelling plans: maybe camping and some day trips
Have fun hanging with your friends, Bronwyn!
I only know the week is officially over when I see Mellan! 🙂
Haul: Essie’s Silk Watercolor nail polishes.
Weekend plans: cleaning and de-cluttering.
Summer travel plans: Just got back from half a week at Sandusky Bay!
Haha!! 😉
How was your trip? Hope it was relaxing!
How cute Mellan looks when he’s supervising, he’s taking it rather seriously 😉
Haul: My Selfridges order finally arrived: Clinique Peach Pop, Armani Flash Lacquer 519 and Tom Ford cream blush Pink Sand (so pretty!). I also ordered a new Nars Light reflecting pressed powder (my favorite setting powder), Armani Luminous Silk foundation in 5.5 and Dior nail polish in Sundown from the summer collection.
Weekend plans: Grocery shopping, some chores and relaxing on Saturday, making dinner for my boyfriend’s parents on Sunday.
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: We just had two weeks vacation in France in June. In August we’re visiting my sister and little nephew in Ireland for a week 🙂
He inspects each box and looks curiously at my husband (who does the breaking down of boxes usually) — he totally micro-manages!
Ireland!! That is so cool.
Love that shot of him supervising! The Mellan Face is a fair and benevolent box overlord. I also hauled the Bite Beauty Opal offerings. I quite enjoy Lipstick Queen’s Ice Queen, which is similar but has more of a white-gold sheen alongside LQ’s usual teeth-brightening turquoise shimmer. And I tend to think opalescent glosses are lovely when done well. The gloss I have not had a chance to use on its own yet, but I absolutely adore the lipstick tube. The blue-violent-pink sheen is incredibly lovely and totally offers that ethereal fairy glow. The gloss on top adds to the pinkish hint and more opalescent goodness and is so pretty. They make sort of a sheened-up, multi-chrome, subtle but powerful lavender-ish nude glow. So far I prefer the lipstick. Also picked up Barberry from the Frozen Berries line and the color is absolutely fabulous. Like a more pigmented and creamy version of my beloved DC’d MLBB Stila Natalie. Oh, and grabbed Sephora’s new contour powder from the blush line and am enjoying it. I love that they released a proper, shadowy contour for a reasonable price.
This summer is work and the usual <3
I kept telling him to stop micro-managing, but he couldn’t help himself! 😉
Good to know that Ice Queen isn’t a dupe for Bite Beauty Opal, but similar in concept (like a warmer version).
You know how our beloved fuzzy boys are. Once they’ve set their nose/mind to something, that’s the way it’s gonna be 😉
And definitely. I was hesitating on purchasing Bite’s Opal because of owning Ice Queen. But they really are such different takes on a similar concept and I’m glad I have both now. Ice Queen adds sort of a warm classic highlight color whereas Opal really is opalescent and cooler. So far it’s been super fun to work with. I put it over Bite Zinfandel not expecting it to work super well but it actually looked quite cool. Really great for customizing and getting more use out of colors.
And now I’m wearing Guerlain Gladys with some of the gloss and a hint of the lipstick on top. Looks lovely! Very fun, summery combination. I played with a couple others last night as well but not enough yet. Definitely need to try a proper matte with them still. So far, the lipstick still edges out on top for me as I just love the effect it gives so much and think the finish works really well here (it’s not as satiny as Ice Queen and has a more demi-matte finish to it and the opalescence comes from the multi-chrome sheen. That sheen is sophisticated and lovely, like how Tom Ford makes sheen look sophisticated and elegant). Also, it doesn’t impact the underlying color as much. You get the effect with some lightening but not much.
The gloss is gorgeous and my personal favorite is mixing them together in looks so far (gloss on one lip, lipstick layer on the other, then blend together). However, I should note that it’s milky. A very nice milky that doesn’t settle into lines or anything, but milky enough to have a lightening effect on whatever color is underneath. I personally like milky finishes done well and it’s not a super thick one here, but I know not everyone does. The opalescence here is very similarly colored to the lipstick, but leans more pinkish. Also, the tube is not the easiest to put a lip brush in and color does transfer to the applicator. It seems to wipe off fairly easily but you may lose some product. Color wipes off the lipstick more easily with a quick hand swatch.
Love ’em both, love ’em together, but I hope this info helps anyone thinking of getting one or both (not to encourage spending, of course! Also to help people who don’t like how these sound to avoid). <3
Thanks for such a detailed review, Celia! 🙂 I really appreciate it!
Thanks for YOUR detailed review 🙂 I definitely agree with your takes. The lipstick was a totally worthwhile purchase for me as I like these sorts of shades done well and think it looks great on its own. The gloss I’m iffy about. Still like the color and how it looks mixed together with the lipstick, but it impacts the underlying color of anything else too much and aside from the pink-ish aspect to the sheen, it winds up looking more like a standard gloss with some shinies. The lipstick is more special and versatile, IMO.
Haul: Christine, thank you so much for recommending Colour Pop blushes! I purchased Rain, which looked rather scary until I read your comparison to the Clinique Pansy Pop blush, and I LOVE it! It applies so evenly and it’s so easy to build up just the right amount of color.
From Colour Pop, I also picked up the Flipper, Shark Attack, La La, and Eye Candy shadows (La La is gorgeous!), and a Lippie Pencil in Flawless. The reason I hesitated for so long before trying Colour Pop was because some other bloggers had said that the shadows never set and end up smearing. Then I woke up and realized that you would have mentioned that if it were true! I’m sorry I ever doubted you… and I’m kind of kicking myself for it!
From Fyrinnae, I purchased shadows in Mauve-O-Matic, Mystic Forest, Peppermint Vodka (breathtakingly beautiful!), Sloth Snuggles, and Tapir.
From Sephora, Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer (I think, if they’d tried harder, they could have made the name longer…), Caudalie Beauty Elixir, and Lavanila Body Butter in vanilla lavender.
Weekend plans: No plans. If I’m feeling up to it, my husband and I will venture out of the house. I’d like to go with the kids down to the beach one evening and sit around a little fire roasting marshmallows. No one has ever been kicked off the beach for laughing too loudly so my family is safe there! =)
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Nope. The furthest we might venture is to Solvang or Monterey, but we may just end up staying closer to home and hanging out in Cambria, Morro Bay, or Avila.
Woohoo! I’m really excited to hear that you had such an easy time applying Rain, Cat. How are the eyeshadows working for you? I was really surprised when I initially tried ColourPop, but they’re some of the longer-wearing cream eyeshadows I have tried!
Primer names are getting to be like mascara names… OTT!
There’s seems to be a bit of a learning curve with the eyeshadows. I was able to apply Bill (a matte) and La La (a metallic) with a full, dense, synthetic brush and they blended out just fine. As for the intensely glittery shades, I have long nails which makes it difficult for me to use my finger and I couldn’t seem to get much on my lid with a flat, synthetic brush. However, I did manage to get it all over the rest of me!
The shadows themselves are really amazing! Once on, they don’t budge. Well, aside from glitter fallout. The texture is very interesting. It reminds me of the Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer. (Which was actually more of a nightmare for me!)
Have you tried the glittery shades over Pixie Epoxy? I tired the three I have over it (on my hand) and it actually made quite a difference. Still some fallout but no where near as much. The next time I use one, when I’m not venturing out, I’ll use it over Pixie Epoxy on my lids and see how it goes.
In the future, I’ll probably avoid the really glittery shades. I’m definitely getting more shades of blush! A-MAZ-ING! I was looking at the Monster highlighter but I’m indecisive. Do you think it would be something an almost-50-year-old could pull off? I don’t have a lot of fine lines or texture on the area I’d apply it. If I bought it and it didn’t work as a highlighter, is there any reason I couldn’t use it on my lids as an inner corner highlight?
Pixie Epoxy will definitely help! 🙂 The really chunky glittery shades have been the most miss-like for me – some are better than others, but super glittery ones tend to apply best with fingertips 🙁
The highlighters are subtler than you’d think! They should work quite well on you 🙂
It’s possible there are dyes/ingredients (likely dyes or glitter) used in the blushes that aren’t safe for use on the eye, so that would be the major reason.
Okay, you’ve convinced me! The next time I place an order, I’ll pick up Monster… and maybe Hippo, too! Thank you so much for your input. I really appreciate it! =)
Mellon is so handsome. I could’ve used his help to supervise and coordinate my haulage.
Birthday haul! (last Monday 7/6). Ulta sale last week: NYX brow, lip products (40% off) and Real Technique brushes (bogo 50%). Walgreens: Disney Pocahontas palette, makeup bag and Mulan makeup bag (I love kitschy makeup bags). Neiman Marcus: Tom Ford bronzer brush and cream foundation brush. Hakuhodo: face brushes and liner brushes. Nordstrom sale: Guerlain summer edition meteorites, Kevyn Aucoin cream blush in Patrice, Lancome Le Stylo Azure and Minuit eyeliner, Diptique and Voluspa candles, Fitbit, workout clothes, Mac duo fibre brushes, etc. Shout out to Ebates and Mr. Rebates! I also did some damage at Sephora ( I relented and bought the Jaclyn Hill Champagne pop highlighter) and Mac (extra dimension Havana e/s & new matte blushes). My Mom also bought me some Lancome mascaras via QVC ( Hypnose, Oscillation & Definicils). PS – It’s so weird seeing Holiday palette previews when you’re shopping for July birthday treats. I love Christmas in July for all the obvious reasons, but it’s getting ridiculous.
Weekend – still celebrating my birthday with friends on Saturday. Shoot I’m celebrating all month!
Travel plans: visited relatives in South Carolina last week. Doing “staycations” in my hometown NYC the rest of the summer. Saving up for Fall/Holiday collections and Fall ’15 Sephora sale!
He would have told you to get everything 😉
Happy belated birthday, Erica!
Oooh, and let me know how Champagne Pop looks on your skin tone!
Mellan in his bow tie is too adorable!
Haul: Bite Beauty Barberry – I seriously love this much more than I thought I would and am considering a backup and/or more colors in this formula.
Weekend plans: My sister is having a gender reveal party at my place! 😀
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Not anymore – I canceled two vacations (June and August) and decided to work full-time instead because some great opportunities arose.
Barberry is stunning! So glad you got it 🙂
I wanted to mention that after I got it, I noticed it is quite similar to MAC Rebel. They aren’t exact dupes, but I think they are close, maybe 80%.
No haul as such, but I received my orders from Sleek and BeautyJoint. I have been trying out the Blush by 3 palette in Lace and e.l.f.’s Studio Blush Palette in Light — love the choice of colours! Also the new Studio Ultimate Blending Brush seems like a really nice multitasker 🙂
No weekend or summer travel plans, either — I travel for work a lot, sometimes internationally, so I want to stay grounded during my downtime!
Nice! So glad you got some Sleek to try!
Haul: Indeed Labs Hydraluron repurchase x 2 & Sephora x Hakuhodo brushes
Weekend plans: Relax & do laundry! Today I got home from a week long trip out to eastern Canada with my mom to visit family & see Rod Stewart with my mom, aunt & cousin!
Do you have any summer traveling plans?: Besides the last week, I’ll go to Nunavut for a week in August with my mom, also to visit family!
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Hakuhodo brushes!
Haul: Maybelline Color Sensational in Pink Me Up, which I’m loving! It’s almost a MLBB with a plummy twist.
Weekend plans: Hibernate!! It’s dead of winter here in New Zealand.
Do you have any summer traveling plans? I have a weekend trip to Queenstown planned with my girlfriends in August!
So glad you found a cool take on your MLBB shade!
