This week’s Mellan video…
Wait for it…
Haul: Black Radiance lipstick in 5005. I think the sticker, that you need to peel off to use the lipstick, said the name was Red Sahara. Bought it to play around with the oxblood trend and was pleasantly surprised at the quality.
Weekend Plans: Just exercising and playing video games.
Best Gift You’ve Ever Received: When my SO took me to Kitt Peak National Observatory for their nightly observing program for my birthday. I love astronomy and I always wanted to go to a “big deal” observatory since my university did not have the best equipment or sky conditions for observing.
Ooh! Shaun has always wanted to go to an observatory, too. What a great day that must have been for you!
If you ever have the opportunity to go to Arizona I really recommend checking out the observatories. They have a lot of great ones there. Depending on where you live in California it might not even be too far away. Kitt Peak was a lot of fun!
Haul: Tarte exposed blush and tarte call of the wild eyeshadow palette. Also it was my boyfriend’s 30th bday yesterday so all the gifts i got him were hauled. He also gave me L’Artisan Seville A l’Aube parfum as an early xmas gift. I’m so spoiled!!
Weekend plans: Hopefully nothing. it’s been an exhausting week. i work at a consumer driven company and this month is our busiest! we have like 6 temps doing overflow!! I will be going to see my parents early before their flight to south africa to give them their xmas gifts since they will be gone until after the new year
best gift ever received: Every gift my boyfriend has ever given me is the best because he picks each one out. And also my violin (even though I paid for half), it was the best gift my parents gave me.
Aww, what a great boyfriend 🙂
Haul: 4 shades of MAC crushed metallic pigment and a cremesheen lip glass
Weekend plans: Out to the club tonight with a friend, recovering from it tomorrow, and work on Sunday 🙂
Best gift you’ve ever received?: A trip to Austria!
Have a great time with your friend!
Haul: I bought Bronze, Constructivist Paint Pot, Antique Gold Reflecks and Full Coverage Foundation from MAC. I also bought a ton of hair stuff and the set of Lip Tars from Sephora.
Weekend plans: We’re going to my husband’s Christmas party tomorrow, and he has to go figure out which golf clubs he wants for Christmas!
Best gift you’ve ever received?: My mom sent me a fully decorated Christmas tree. My husband is in the military and we always go home for Christmas, so I don’t take the time to decorate. Last week I was feeling a little down and homesick, so my mom sent me a tree to cheer me up. She’s pretty awesome!
Aww!! Your mom is so sweet!
Haul: Cinderella shadow palette from Sephora
Weekend plans: funeral
Best gift you’ve ever received?: 3 way tie:
engagement ring-3 karats total including 2.28 princess cut in center (“a princess cut for my princess”)
bmw (bday)
my kitty (bday) love her so much!
I’m sorry to hear about the funeral you have this weekend – I hope you are surrounded by the love and support of your family!
Thank you Christine, your comment made me cry. You are too kind.
Your pup is adorable 🙂 I love showing photos of him to my husband. I wanted to thank you for featuring those personalized ornaments. We got one for our dane. I cannot wait to get it and put it on our tree.
Thank you! 🙂
I’m so glad you got one! I hope you love it!
■Haul: I decided to try the Elf Baked Blushes since I heard they were decent dupes for MSFs and I wanted some new highlighters. I also picked up Perky and Seductive Intent from the Taste Temptation promo. And a red lip liner for the Chanel Lippie I splurged on last week.
■Weekend plans: Cheesy Christmas movies and hot cocoa 🙂
■Best gift you’ve ever received?: Finding out that I’m going to be aunt next summer 🙂
What’s your favorite cheesy Christmas movie?
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!!!
That and A Christmas Story.
I particularly love the Old Navy commercials their do with the cast of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation this year. lol
Haul: OPI GoldenEye shade.
Weekend plans: Finish Christmas & B-Day shopping for my Mom. Me and her are both Christmas time babies so a lot of gift shopping for the holidays.
Best gift you’ve ever received?: My own TV when I was 10. But my parents made me pick it out for my Nana, wrap it for her, Give it to her on Christmas Day and then have her tell me to check the gift tag. lol
One of the few time I freaked out in excitement. Not that I wasn’t excite for everything on Christmas/B-day but I internalized my excitement as a kid.
LOL, your parents are great! That is hilarious!
Haul: NYX Slim Pencil in White, Lip Liners in Hot Red and Peekaboo Neutral, KleanColors Nail Polish in Fireworks and Espresso.
Weekend plans: Studying and writing papers. The semester is almost over!!!!!
Best gift you’ve ever received?: My friends (I know that’s mushy, lol). A material gift I love is a necklace my friend Leah made for me. It’s a vintage key on a ribbon, with a couple of charms.
YAYY! I bet you’re going to be thrilled when winter break hits!
Haul: The Diorling Diorific lipstick I got for my mother as a Christmas gift has just arrived. I hope she likes it.
Weekend plans: I’m in the middle of exams -while I’m sick, how very fantastic-, so workkk.
Best gift you’ve ever received?: I can think of several gifts, each being very meaningful to me. My godfather gave me Saint Augustine’s Confessions for my Declaration of faith (hope that’s the right translation of Profession de foi -that’s a catholic ceremony) in the edition of la Pléiade. La Pléiade is a publishing house that offers gorgeous, scholarly editions of first-rate authors, so it’s obviously a beautiful gift. I didn’t read it until I was older, but it started my deep-seated love for Augustine.
Two birthday gifts that are really significant to me: a Calvin Klein watch my father bought me for my 17th birthday (my sister chose it, so it comes from the two of them!). It was the first year I was away from home from my study, and we had just got through some tough times then. My sister and I had begun to grow much closer too, so it has a symbolical value to me!
For my eighteenth birthday I received a McQueen scarf. It’s incredibly gorgeous: an map of the old London on pale, dusty pink silk. I actually got this a year after said birthday -I knew I wanted a McQueen scarf -love the late designer- but I wanted to be sure I’d pick one I’d cherish forever, and there’s only a small selection available in France. I found the one while in vacation in London with my dad, after going to a lot of shops to buy one. BUT it was on Net-à-Porter website, on sale, and they were the only one to have it, so my father bought it here!
The last one is a tiny, beautiful book of christian, jewish and muslim tales. They’re all so full of poetry; if I’m feeling down, I read one or two. It always soothes me. I can’t remember who gave it to me, but I like to think it’s my grandmother. She was a marvelous person, and it’s the kind of gift she would have made.
I hope you feel better and get through your exams quickly!
Thanks Christine!
I’m not sure, but it sounds like what I knew as a confirmation ceremony – i.e. you confirm that this is the faith you want to follow.
Haul:
Sampler sized soaps, hair things, an extra pair of Spanx, Fresh bath fizzies in Lychee, makeup wipes, Lit glitter set (glitter glue and 4 glitter colors), Anna Sui nail polish, Sephora body glitter in a can in silver, Lush Oatifix, and probably a few more things from the drug store today!
Weekend plans:
1. Clean the love nest with my fiance.
2. KEEP PACKING!
3. Get care packages/Christmas gifts in some sort of neat pile to wrap on Christmas Eve
Best gift you’ve ever received?:
My engagement ring. Before that it was a romantic weekend in Napa.
Ooh, Lit! Love, love their glitters!
Haul: WnW eyeliner pencils in Purple & Amethyst; WnW nail polish in Night Prowl (if MAC Young Punk were a polish), Blue Moon (indoors, it looks like a blackened teal, outdoors it’s navy), & Disturbia (if the purple side of NARS Melusine were a polish, which is something I’ve wanted for a long time).
Plans: My daughter’s social skills group is doing a trip to the mall to do a bit of “Christmas shopping”, so we’re going to make a whole day of it. Macy’s just started carrying Inglot, so I plan to check that out. Of course, there’s also both Sephora locations, and Ulta… I highly doubt I’ll pick anything up though, as playing Santa isn’t cheap, and the bank accounts need to be replenished, LOL.
*For those in the Los Angeles area, Macy’s @ the Westfield Culver City Mall (formerly Fox Hills Mall) just got Inglot last week.*
Best gift: My daughter; I know *every* parent says this, but she truly is amazing, and absolutely gorgeous (I get stopped by complete strangers telling me so every time we go out).
Social skills group? That sounds interesting – what exactly is it? (I don’t have kids, and nobody I know has kids, so I have no idea what that is, lol.)
My daughter has very mild, extremely high functioning autism, or likely Aspberger’s Syndrome, so although she does well academically, she’s lacking in peer relationship skills (she gets along fine with adults, though). The group consists of other kids on the autism spectrum, and they learn things like party games, introductions, greetings, etc. Her group is a bit below her functioning level, but we have to wait until Spring to get her into a level appropriate group, so we’re just passing time.
That’s really great that you’ve enrolled her in something like that! I know someone who could have really benefited from something like that earlier on, so it’s fantastic that those things exist. Hopefully the spring group will help her even more 🙂
I am a children’s therapist and I work with students with Aspergers’ and Autism all the time. Its great that she is in a social skills group, we are still trying to pool resources to get ours started! That made me smile!
Haul: First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser, and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
Weekend plans: Relax, since first semester is now over! Let winter break begin!
Best gift you’ve ever received?: I can’t think of what the BEST was. However, one that I absolutely loved was tickets to go see “Fiddler on the Roof” onstage with Topol! (It’s my favorite movie, musical, and play, and since Topol starred in the movie, I was ridiculously excited.)
Yay for winter break!
Haul: Can’t remember if it was this week or last that I bought some nail polishes. OPI Merryberry Mauve, OPI Sonic Bloom, OPI Nutcracker Sweet, Butter London Trustafarian, Illamasqua Noble and Illamasqua Cameo. I was so annoyed that the two Illamasqua polishes were US exclusive, so when I got an email saying they were available online in Europe I had to order them right away 😀
Weekend plans: Christmas shopping
Best gift you’ve ever received?: Hard question! Probably a trip in a small airplane when I was like 9-10. It only took 4 people, so I went with my grandparents and we flew over the house where I lived at the time. I was a great birthday surprise for someone who had never been in a plane before!
I was so happy to see Illamasqua launch ’em worldwide!
Haul: Finished christmas shopping (sans one gift), but I clearly needed to treat myself too so:
– Rainforest Radiance travel set from The Body Shop [free for renewing my card with them]
– Burt’s Bees Cuticle Butter [I blame you, ok? :|]
– S&G Hand Maid Antibacterial Gel
– BareMinerals White Hot palette [aaaa I am so excited I have been lemming this for a while :D]
and a skirt and shoes from Topshop.
Weekend plans: Get that last gift in and try and find something to wear with the skirt and shoes for the bf’s family Xmas Dinner. Other than that… nothing that I can think of.
Best gift you’ve ever received?: Um. Either my Vivienne Westwood bag for my graduation, orrrr the nikon bridge camera from my boyfriend for our anniversary.
I hope you enjoy the Cuticle Butter!
I tried it yesterday and it does feel really nice. My cuticles have been begging for some tlc, so they’ve appreciated it!
Yay!
Haul:
– Clarisonic Mia (Acquired through giftage)
– UD Eyeshadow in Loaded
– LORAC 3D Liquid Lustre in Gold
– Jack Black It’s The Balm Lip Quad (Gonna keep 1 or 2 and gonna give 2)
Weekend plans: I’m gonna finish up my Christmas shopping tonight or tomorrow, and Sunday is the birthday.
Best gift you’ve ever received?: Finding out I’m going to be an Aunt in February!! 😀
Hope you had a good week, Shaun and Christine! I hope everyone has a great weekend. Also, thoughts and prayers to those affected by the mass shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut. What a horrible tragedy.
Yay! Glad to hear you’ll be getting a niece soon 🙂
Yes — yesterday was a very tragic day, and I hope that all those affected are surrounded by the love and support of their community in this difficult time – and know they are embraced by the world right now for their losses.
Haha, I actually think the baby will be a boy. They wanted it to be a surprise, so we won’t find out til baby is born. My SIL and I both had dreams that it was going to be a boy way before she was pregnant, and apparently everyone else seems to think it’ll be a boy. A girl would be fun, but I’d be totally shocked if it was actually a girl.
Haul: If you’re including last Friday in this (which I am going to) then I got 2 sparkly tank tops from express (on sale for $15 each!), some pajama items and socks from aerie, the black friday too faced chocolate soeil (yea spelled that wrong) bronzer with kabubi (the sephora jcpenny store I went to have ONE left! My lucky day), the bare essential kit with primer, illuminizing mineral veil, eye cream and well-rested pen, UD Naked Basics (came in the mail Monday) and if this counts my ipsy bag
Weekend plans: holiday party/dinner/gift exchange with friends and gingerbread cookie baking
Best gift/present: hmm tough one. I will have to go with the bracelet my fiancee bought me for our 6 month anniversary because it was so sweet and unexpected
What kind of bracelet was it?
Haul: Do q-tips count?
Weekend plans: Baking cup cakes / little cakes for my birthday next tuesday, doing some x-mas shopping, start writing minutes for today’s and yesterdays meeting, finishing the example of the management report for our entities.
Best gift you’ve ever received?: A small Cartier watch for my 18th birthday.
What kind of cupcakes?
One recipe is based on a redwine cake including chocolate, cacao and smashed walnuts, baked in small paper cups instead of a cake pan. This one gets a redwine powdered sugar coat. The other one is an almond-chocolate version with a cherry and liquid chocolate topping. I use almonds instead of hazlenuts, because some of my co-workers react to hazlenuts.
I don’t like to bring normal cakes to the office, because I have to provide spoons or forks and plates and have to clean them afterwards. Cake normally crumbles. so the kitchen is always dirty. So I just offer napkins
Yum, yum! Those sound very good, Nicole!
Haul: two MAC Pro Shadows – Soot and Indian Ink
Weekend plans: more Xmas baking (cookies and eggnog quick bread) and preparing some freezable appetizers; a last wee bit of Xmas shopping and, on Sunday, meeting our best friends for brunch.
Love Indian Ink!
oops, forgot the last question…
it’s probably the diamond eternity band my husband got me when I was pregnant and my fingers had swelled too much to wear my wedding band!
Haul: Nothing, surprisingly! Lol
Weekend Plans: Avoid my brother’s girlfriend’s sickness. The woman likes the cook when she get’s sick… I think she’s out to get me 😉
Best Gift Ever Recieved: Hmm… Hard to say. My family gets it perfect every time. Lol well, a few years ago one of my brothers got me Dr. Dre Studio Beats headphones. That’s saying something because he and I don’t have the best relationship. and just a few weeks ago my dad gave me the iphone 5 as an early christmas gift. I’m very blessed 🙂
OH NO! I hope you don’t catch her illness!
Haul: Still waiting for some Christmas presents to arrive and I purchased a bunch of skincare items for myself and my husband
Weekend plans: Heading to an aquarium with the kids-and wrapping presents
Best gift you’ve ever received?: For my birthday, my husband took me to NYC, where we hit up MUFE store, SOHO Sephora and Herald square Macy’s (they carry Inglot)- it was an awesome birthday 🙂
What skincare items did you nab for him?
He has dry, flaky skin so I got him Philosophy Microdelivery wash (keeps it simple, cleanse and exfoliate in one step) and La Roche-Posay Hydrophase Intense. We havn’t tried it but we bought it on the recommendation from a link you provided last week. I think it was beaut.ie
Nice! 🙂 Shaun’s using Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple as his cleanser right now!
Haul: I actually did a real haul this week, using the 20% off code at Ulta. I am nearly out of BM mineral veil and primer, so I got the Brightening Pearl mineral veil duo and a full sized Prime Time primer. I also got a Too Faced blush in the color “Cocoa Rose,” which I tested in store, and it was absolutely amazing, so I am extremely excited about it!
Weekend plans: The Hobbit, hanging out with friends, finishing up my holiday shopping, and watching the TV show “Psych.”
Best gift you’ve ever received?: The first thing that comes to mind isn’t a gift that was given to me, but to my best friend. Her step-father bought her tickets to come visit me in Minneapolis the first winter after I graduated from college, when I was lonely and unemployed. It was a gift for my friend, but it REALLY made a difference to ME, so I’ll say it’s the best gift I have ever received. 🙂
P.S. My heart goes out to everybody touched by the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. There are absolutely no words…
Very nice haul, Sabriel!
Haul: Three of the Clinique Chubby Stick Intenses (01, 02, 07), Burts Bees cuticle butter, J R Watkins lemon hand cream, Le Couvent des Minimes hand cream (if I spelled that name right), and I think that’s it.
Weekend plans: Working 12 hours on Sunday but no plans for tomorrow.
Best gift: Oh, lord, I have no idea on this one. I really just don’t know.
I forgot – I also bought the Chantecaille highlighter! And just now a T3 hairdryer.
Uh oh!
QVC suckered me in with the easy pay option. *hangs head*
12 hours – ouch!
Haul: Urban Decay Verve eyeshadow, Dior Blackout mascara, various hand soaps from B&BW, Hugo Naturals pink grapefruit salt scrub, Fekkai Protein Rx conditioner, Clasrisonic brush head, and Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow nail polish that I got free with my Beauty.com order.
Weekend Plans: maybe see The Hobbit
Best Gift: engagement ring
Verve! Nice pick 🙂
Haul: Finally cashed in my aeroplan points for a $200 Holt Renfrew gift card. Crossing my fingers it’ll arrive soon. Christine, got any recommendations what little beauties I should get? 😀
Weekend plans: Study my arse off for last my final. I’m practically exuding stress waves and transferring it to anyone standing close enough.
Aww Mellan’s little brow furrow is too adorable. Looks like he’s due for a nail trimming soon!
He ALWAYS furrows his brow!

Weekend plans: Meet some friends from my previous job for breakfast, Christmas shopping and sleep!
Best gift you’ve ever received: A CD player one of my sisters gave me “a few” moons ago (imagine how long ago – there were no I-pods!) I had it with me all the time and even went to sleep with the earphones on.
Oh, Mellan…..he looks like he wants to attract the toy with his mind! So cute!
Sometimes I wonder if the next generation will have no idea what CD players are, lol!

Weekend plans: Working 🙁
Best gift: A puppy. Of course.
Puppy!! Aw!

Best gift you’ve ever received?: My dearly departed beagle Toby. He was my 10th birthday gift from my parents, and my best friend for 16 years.
Aww – that is so amazing about your gift. I’m sorry to hear he is no longer with us, but I’m so glad he was your best friend for 16 years!
Haul: Made an order on etsy for some lippies and some solid perfumes and got it today

Haul: sula cream eyeshadow and physician’s formula youth wear foundation
Weekend plans: it’s my birthday, I want to get my makeup done at sephora, dinner, and we’re going to look at Christmas lights.
Best gift: I’ll go with a necklaces friend gave me after my daughter was stillborn. It was footprints with her birthstone and name engraved on it. (I know that’s not the happiest thing to talk about on a makeup blog but it is the most meaningful gift I’ve ever received.)
Aww, that is a great gift and way to remember her by 🙂
Haul: proud to say, only one Origins GinZing brightening cream shadow in Khaki Kick and it’s sooooo pretty, loving it! Tomorrow I plan to go get a couple of MAC 239 brushes.
Plans: enjoying the weekend with my husband :).
Best gift: definitely my engagement ring! My husband likes to spoil me with diamonds, but my engagement ring is by far the sweetest, most loved piece of jewelry I have :).
I love the 239! Do you have any already or will it be your first?
Haul: A Charlie Brown Christmas tree and some ornaments to hang off of it
Weekend plans: Weekend is over. I reflected yesterday and I went to work today.

Weekend plans: Catch up on emails, cook for the week, do my nails, catch up on Hulu and sleep!
Best gift you’ve ever received?: Rings my Grandmum almost lost to a Nazi officer. Long story short Grandmum married a man who never took German citizenship and since he was Jewish he was unable to take citizen when he wanted to do it. Because of that she became stateless with him (which saved their lives). A Nazi official came to their flat, told them to pack (1 suitcase each) and get out of Germany. At the train station a Nazi offical wanted Grandmum’s rings and was going to find a knife to cut her fingers off. Thanksfully by G-ds grace he never did come back. She also snuck out her Frozen Charlie doll. He survived WW1, Holocaust/WW2, the Blitz and coming across the pond. I took him on a local antiques tele program and the appraiser was IN love with him. Plus she really got interested in Grandmum’s story. Not one scratch or break after all these years.
That is a great story of courage and so great that something with so much meaning and history has been able to be preserved. Thank you for sharing 🙂
