Formula X Metamoprhic & Vaporize Nail Lacquers

These are the last two Liquid Crystal shades I have from the ones released for spring (you can also check out part one and part two). I went into greater detail about the formula and pigmentation in part one, but to summarize, one is to, “Apply one coat for a sheer crystalline look, or layer for a full stained-glass effect.” Generally, they seem to be mostly opaque after two coats, but a few are definitely sheerer even if you were to layer three coats and are better as layering top coats than shades worn on their own. These sheerer shades also had thicker consistencies that made application trickier. I typically get a full week of wear with very minor tip wear (and no chipping!) with Formula X’s polish.

Formula X Metamorphic Nail Lacquer ($12.50 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “charcoal micro-glitter in sheer gray.” It’s a charcoal gray with silver and gray sparkle and shimmer. It was mostly opaque after two coats, but it did not apply as evenly as it should have. The finish dried down to a naturally shiny one, though, and it was very smooth (you could not feel the micro-glitter at all). Rescue Beauty Lounge An Accidental Interloper (LE, $20.00) is lighter. MAC Grey Friday (LE, $16.00) is more matte but similar. China Glaze Stone Cold (LE, $7.50) is more matte, darker. See comparison swatches.

Formula X Vaporize Nail Lacquer ($12.50 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “silvery micro-glitter in sheer pearl white.” It was more of a brightened, silvery-white with larger silver and white shimmer and micro-glitter. This shade was still semi-sheer after applying two coats, and the consistency was thicker, a little watery as well, so when applied, it wasn’t as even. The shimmer did not disperse as evenly across the nail either. Anna Sui Minnie Mouse Snow White (002) (LE, $16.00) is more sparkly. Zoya Seraphina (P, $9.00) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty Vapour (LE, $30.00) is more metallic, less sparkly. Dior Lady (LE, $26.00) is more metallic, less sparkly. China Glaze Icicle (LE, $7.50) is darker. China Glaze Frosty (LE, $7.50) is similar. See comparison swatches.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!
