Is That Highlighter All Over Your Nails?

Essie She’s Picture Perfect Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.46 fl. oz.) is described as an “iridescent, reflective lilac.” It’s a medium lilac purple shot through with ultra-fine fuchsia-pink iridescent shimmer. I can’t emphasize enough how subtle the shimmer is and how little it really reflects–it takes a lot of direct light and shifting to see it. Cult Nails Charming is warmer, less blue-based. Zoya Caitlin is much darker and bluer. Essie Lilacism is much lighter.

I’ve been having some good experiences with recent Essies–this one was a little less stellar. Good, just not perfect. The formula on this particular shade was a little thick, so getting even coats that don’t take too long to dry was more difficult. The drying time still seemed a little long, and it’s not at all forgiving if you move to apply your second coat too early–you’ll definitely get drag. The color itself is opaque after two coats.

I love the iridescence to it (is it blue?? blue-ish??) but I am not into the colour. I love purples but the lighter the purple goes my hands look … meh.

So odd to have Limited Edition for a fall shade that screams Spring to me…. hm.  I think this might have been really pretty if the iridescence had been significantly more pronounced. It’s faintly noticeable in the bottle but, as you noted, almost imperceptible on the nails.

Kafka This one was part of the Summer Resort collection. The iridescence is subtle, but still more visible in good lighting than it may appear. Beautiful shade nonetheless.

BeanBoy  Ah, thank you to both you and to royaldoultonsan. I saw the review, saw it was Limited Edition and thought it had just recently come out.  I don’t buy much Essie, so I’m not familiar with particular collections. It makes a lot more sense now. 🙂

Kafka As the others have said it’s part of the Spring 2012 collection. Good luck finding it if you are interested. That collection is long gone from stores.

Gosh this is so pretty–I actually saw this at CVS the other week but didn’t get it because I got several other Essie polishes and I have so many lavenders/lilacs at home…but you’re right–the blue in this one makes it so different then anything I own and I am definitely going back for it!

Aw, I bought She’s Picture Perfect back in April and mine isn’t thick at all, the polish from my bottle actually applies very easily. Maybe this bottle was from a bad batch? I love this colour though, it’s so pretty!

It’s funny, I bought polish this several weeks ago and mine is a significantly lighter shade of purple…practically a purple-tinged white. How odd! The shimmer in mine didn’t transfer to the nail at all 🙁

isn’t this the reason why you don’t review a lot of products? because you claim you want to make sure it’s accessible to everyone who wants to buy it? how does that make sense with this nail polish?

Barbara Avatar

I’m not one for lilacs/lavenders but this is really pretty 😀
One of the titles says ‘is that highlighter all over your nails?’ do you mean like purple highlighter? LOL

Nice but not great. Plus, it’s too of a spring color for me to wear it on fall. I love love purples and lilac but I prefer stronger colors for nail polishes.

Pretty! I’m not a fan of Essie nail polish, but I LOVE lilacs, so I might have to get this one.

Does anyone know how this compares to OPI Do You Lilac It? I assume Essie is a bit lighter and bluer, but it’s hard to tell from online swatches with these types of colors.

Nevermind my question, I just realized I have a mini version of this shade. Got the set when it came out this spring.

Probably says something about my nail polish collection when I don’t remember which shades I already have. I’ve lost count on the number of times I’ve bought a shade not realizing it was already in my stash. lol.

How do you get these Essie nail polishes to look so nice?! I bought a light orange color a while ago from Essie and it was HORRIBLE! It dried SUPER dark compared to in the bottle and it was everywhere and it seemed.. like matte but yours seems glossy.. Do you use a top coat?

Just finished painting my nails with this color! Bought it the next day after reading this review. Should have just not bought it. Color is nice. But all the drag and not so even application etc is true.
