Essie First Timer Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches
Essie First Timer Nail Lacquer
Essie First Timer Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as an “adorable newbie green.” It’s a more vibrant take on mint green–there’s a little green and aqua mixed together to create something deeper and richer than your typical pastel mint green, but it’s not neon or a medium-colored shade either. Dior Samba is a bit darker, not quite as bright. Illamasqua Nomad is similar, perhaps a bit less green.
The consistency was slightly thicker than average but the thickness did not impede application. First Timer applied beautifully with full color coverage in two quotes, no streaking or bubbling, and the polish didn’t pool along the edges. The drying time was average and had a slightly shiny finish when all was said and done. I normally get a week of wear out of Essie’s formula with minor tip wear but no chipping.
P.S. — And if my bottle looks tiny, it’s because I bought the mini version since you and I both know I’ll never finish a full-sized bottle so I thought the minis would suffice for review purposes! 🙂

I really like the look of this polish. I am wondering how it will compare to Revlon Brillint Strength Entice. I have suspicion the Essie will be brighter. A good reason to buy this one as well 🙂
Such a nice color, reminds me of Illamasqua Nomad too. I didn’t know that Essie has minis. Although they are widely available here, I only have two of their colors and I have to admit I still haven’t tried them out after purchasing, so minis would be great in terms of space consumption though. Thanks so much for the review.
I like this better than the ‘traditional’ mint shades we get to see so often. Lovely!
I haven’t had much joy with Essie polishes so even if I liked this colour, I’d probably pass on it.
I really have not been a fan of the Essie formula, but this one is definitely spot on. I’d really suggest trying it, if you’re just weary of the formulation due to past experiences.
I actually consider getting this even though I already have Nomad and a bunch of other similar greens. It’s the perfect shade for spring/summer!
Ooohhhh purdy!
I’m obsessed with this color! I have already worn it twice, which is a lot for me because I have TONS of nail polish.. usually it would just get put aside after one use lol.
Are you going to review all the polishes in this collection? I’m considering getting this one and In The Cab-ana!
Perfect. I needed a dupe for Nomad. I was just about to purchase it when the Illlamasqua polishes jumped in price from $14 to $17 throwing it out of my range. Will definitely be picking this up.
i love this color, i am going to do my toes with it next
Wow I love that it’s a brighter mint green! I have a similar shade from Sephora Collection (Teeny Bikini), but I wouldn’t recommend it. The formula has gotten so thicky and gloppy. Might have to check this out as a replacement shade.
Perfect nail color for spring/summer! I’d love to know how you keep your cuticles looking so nice…?
I don’t do anything :/
I love this color right now! Has been on my nails for at least 2 weeks!
Just so people know, although this is pretty much a dupe for Illamasqua Nomad, when you add top coat to the Essie, it turns it a much more yellow green, so if you’re looking for a dupe for Nomad, this will be it only if you don’t use top coat!
essie minis are so cute! i like this color!
I have this color and In The Cab-ana. Both are so beautiful!
I didn’t realize Essie has mini polishes. Where do you purchase them from and what’s the price????
I bought mine from Nordstrom, but you do have to buy them as a set (it was a cube that had four of them in it).
I want the mini version of this. ( I want the regular version too, but that is too much nail polish )
What an amazing Colour. I Want it!!!
And what about a comparison with chanel jade? do you think they look similar? Thank you as always for your reviews!
Hi Ashura,
I do not have that, sorry!
OMG I am in love with this color it’s perfect!
