Dolce & Gabbana meets the future: a triumphant look at a vibrant heritage and a tribute to a rich past equal a path to a transcendent present. Introducing the Evocative Beauty Collection… a seamless juxtaposition of signature elements reflecting luminousity, luxury and a cunning sensuality. Echoing the Fall 2010 runway collection’s eloquent celebration of Dolce & Gabbana’s superior quality, unerring craft, exceptional detail and provocative contrast, the Evocative Beauty Collection shares a deep emotional resonance, impeccable precision and a bold yet enigmatic beauty. “With the fall collection we drew from our culture, our tradition, to unleash the full power and evocative nature of modern femininity,” says Stefano Gabbana, “We wanted to discover a look that truly reflects our ‘story’ from the very beginning yet truly reflects our reverence for today’s women, epitomized, of course by the divine Scarlett.” We’ve always been about contrast on the runway-lacy lingerie against sharp tailoring, vivid florals punctuating matte black. With the Evocative Beauty Collection, the contrast is just as impassioned,” adds Domenico Dolce, “It addresses what’s so ineffable about a woman-her fierce sensuality anchored by her innermost femininity.”

The result: Sizzling contrast lends a smoldering sensuality that arouses and attracts. The deeply felt palette embodies the raw yet refined essence of Sicily’s past, the renegade glamour of its present: it is powerful and ephemeral, passionate and intimate. Pure muted tones against bright vibrant tones produce the brazen yet reflective beauty that is, and always has been Dolce & Gabbana’s alone.

The Evocative Beauty Collection presents a provocative palette that’s passionate-a range of warm browns and purples; a play of cool muted jewel-tones-blues, deep purples-and tender pinks and neutrals contrasted with bright pinks. Vivid hues lend a touch of the unexpected, a touch of the erotic, to coy nuanced tones; the look is sinfully seductive, deeply intimate… and radiates pure glamour and sensuality.

The Look

Cutting edge make up artist Pat McGrath collaborates with Dolce & Gabbana to produce another extraordinary look. Brilliant new shades join collection favorites to capture a new vitality, an enlightened beauty and a sleek sensuality.

The look captures the delicate yet capricious nature of autumn, the discreetly dramatic explosion of purples and neutrals always shifting, flickering and finally transforming to become something altogether new. Soulful and daring… the emphasis is on the lips-the key to a woman’s deepest sensuality-with eyes that are subtle yet deeply seductive, layered in soft nuanced neutrals and accented with bold intense colour. The lips are lush and voluptuous in Amethyst, a new classic cream lipstick, with a deep shimmering shine… and highlighted with a bit of flash through Amethyst, a glistening new gloss. Eyes are seductive in Evocative-a new eyeshadow duo in pink and brown-and Divine, a new eyeshadow quad flesh tones accented by deep purple. Softly articulated in the eyeliner Chocolate, the eyes are further enhanced with mascara in Black. Nail lacquer in Dahlia adds a finish of true glamour.

“We went all out with contrast, the kind of contrast that makes a real statement,” says Pat McGrath, “It’s really all about the lips-very shiny and dark, super sexy. I downplayed the eyes, which are still gorgeous, but it’s a subtle kind of power, very implicit. I was going for a look that is very much about ‘now’ but is also ultra Dolce & Gabbana, capturing their ultimate signature look for beauty. Very suggestive, mysteriousyet still very bold. To me, that’s what the fall is all about.”

I usually go for pinks and corals but the lipstick combo in the promo pic is sooo pretty! I think I’m going to have to make this my first D&G purchase.

Dusty Avatar

DROOOOOL. I love purple lip anything! Promo shot is cool… Am I the only one here that thinks Scarlett Johansson is a tranny though? 😉 Everytime I watch her I think, “That’s a man!”

Except the launch date is mid-August? It’s already late August. Bah! 😛

Dusty Avatar

Hehe. Her skin in this photo is beyond Photoshopped. They should have just animated her 😉

Great shot though – Love the look. I still like her – Love to watch her in just about anything… But I still like to pretend she used to be a man. Not saying anything bad about it! I got nothing but love for the trannies! 😉 She is gorgeous though – And I love a woman with a voice like Bea Arthur 😉

Couldn’t agree with you more about the photoshopping! She doesn’t even look human (like her stare is dead blank). She literally looks like a computer generated image.

That being said, the purple lippies look amazing!

“Tranny”? Uncool. You may just not know, so let me step in here. Drag queen = a super-fake/theatrical look that male performers do when they dress up as women for a stage show. Fake is totally the point, and so when you guys say Scarlett looks fake, “Drag queen territory” is the phrase you want.

When you say “tranny” (which is offensive nomenclature) you are mistakenly thinking of transgender women. Trans women are WOMEN–regular ladies who live as such every day–you probably won’t even notice the trans girls you meet in daily life. They read this blog, too, and deserve some respect.

Love the blog, by the way.

I REALLY hate this ad. She doesn’t even look like a real person. If they’re going to photoshop it that much why don’t they just use mannequins.

Nicole Avatar

Ooooh, I love the looks of this! I’m still dying to try D&G makeup but can’t justify the Saks.com shipping to Canada. I always love the ads with Scarlett, including this one but my one complaint: it looks like they heavily Photoshopped her face. The airbrushing is not necessary! She’s gorgeous!

Martyna Avatar

Girls, are these lippies really wearable??
LOVE the colors, but I’m an NC 20 – 25, so I would look dead. Or like I just escaped from an 80s movie…

Heather Avatar

Yeah, I have to agree with you on this, which is why I hope that Christine can review them, so we can see if normal, non-movie star people can wear those gorgeous purples. 🙂

Julie Avatar

Wow, now those are some intense looking lipsticks! I have tried D&G lipsticks before and they aren’t extremely opaque (but they are opaque enough) so I may have to purchase a few…or all…

And I have to say, I am so impressed with all the Fall 2010 collections this time around!

nicci Avatar

doesn’t seem very practical…why so many purple lip glosses and lipsticks? I couldn’t wear it to work (law firm) and be taken seriously…

Rachael Avatar

I love this collection! It’s so tempting to just blow my bank on those lippies.
The color swatches on the Saks page are so terrible! I cant tell which color is supposed to be which.

Hilana Avatar

Beautiful collection, but I am totally saddened by the fact that even the most gorgeous women get airbrushed to death and they all look like these perfect paintings.
No wonder we are so shocked when we see ’em wandering around in their sweats on a Saturday morning with their dogs.

Judy Avatar

Holy moly! I want that purple lipstick Scarlett is wearing in the photo. Is that the Amethyst? Do you know Christine? I have never bought D&G because they are ridiculously over-priced, but… if your review & swatches are good I may just give in and have to buy the lipstick. Do you know when this will be available for purchase and where (online stores)? Thanks!!

Kim-Mary Avatar

Oh EM GEE!!! I have never even heard that D$G had a cosmetic line. This one looks great. Love the purple shades of lipsticks. I am wondering if there are any dupes of those colors? because D$G is waaay too expensive for my taste.
Will you be swatching these Christine?
Thank you!!!!

Allegra Avatar

I purchased the lipsticks in Lust and Amethyst and must say that I was disappointed. They look nothing like the pictures featured or the beautiful purple shade seen on Scarlett. I do not even notice much variation between the two colors. I have not yet received the lip gloss and I am hoping that will improve the lipsticks but at this point they are going back.
