Do you wear makeup when you're sick?

Do you wear makeup when you’re sick? Always? Ever?

I only ask because I wound up catching my boyfriend’s cold… and well, being sick sucks. I’m SUPER cranky when I’m sick, so I definitely don’t wear makeup.

No way, unless I am at work…I wouldn’t wanna scare the customers…but really, I think if you have errands, and you are sick, because of how your’e feeling, you have earned the right to not have to worry about wearing makeup in public… I think people also expect you to not look your best when ill either….

gabriella Avatar

Personally I do not wear it unless I have to go somewhere such as work or an event that I can’t skip. Now when I’m sad, I put makeup on, or do tutorials which makes me feel happy, but not when I’m sick, It’s kinda too much of a hassle.

Lissa Avatar

for work/school yeah but minimal. definitely try to do the skincare routine though, it helps cut down on sore scratchy dried out nose later– clinique moisture surge is really good for this

When I’m sick I take meds that tend to knock me out. Since your not supposed to sleep in makeup don’t bother. If I must leave the house I put on just enough to look alive. conceiler, mineral makeup, blush and something pale on my water line. I don’t bother with anything else unless I have to work then I add eyeliner and mascara.

Rosanna Avatar

When I’m at home, no.
If I’m going to school I’ll wear a little foundation, some blush and a little eye makeup but NO LIP products!
I don’t want my sick germs lingering in my lip products.

Mar Avatar

No, never.
Lying around in bed all day is best without having to worry about smears of makeup on the pillows 😉
Sometimes, when I feel good enough to get out of bed for a little while but still too sick to go out, I curl my lashes and put on a little mascara so I look a little more awake.

Joice Avatar

Yup. Unless it’s an illness that forbids me from wearing it (like chicken pox this summer; and having my head wrapped like a mummy this fall lulz). But otherwise, nothing prevents me from wearing makeup! I’ll take tons of medicine so I don’t have a runny nose or I’ll just skip foundation and go heavy on the eyes (which don’t tear up when I have a cold, thank God)

Anitacska Avatar

Being a full time mum I don’t get time off to be sick, so I have to be out and about all the time. Unless I’m so ill that I can’t get out of the house (hasn’t happened in a very long time) I put make up on. It makes me feel better and makes me look better, so I definitely wouldn’t leave the house without it!

Good question, I’m sick right now :S . I did wear make-up yesterday but only did my make-up right befor I was going to meet some friends, and I only put on some eye shadow and lipgloss nothing ells. The rest of the day I did not wear make-up. And today I don’t think I’ll wear any make-up either. Being sick sucks :'(.

Laura Avatar

If I’m well enough to go to work then I’m well enough to wear a bit of makeup, but if I’m ill enough to stay at home then no way! I’ve got a cold at the moment too but I’m still in work 🙁

Kathrina Avatar

Never! Make-up is one of the last things I think of when I’m sick. Even if it’s just a slight cold and I don’t have to stay in bed I don’t wear make-up because as soon as you blow your nose the whole thing will be a total mess.

vikaki Avatar

noooooooooooo way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!why would i do tht???there is no point in that!!:D:D
well,i would just put some blush if i had to go to work or somewhere..
but i can’t stand make up the good days!!so,you imagine when i am sick..

Lauren Avatar

I have to look decent at work. When I’m sick, but not sick enough to stay home, I put a tonne of moisturizer on my face and eyes, then just a bit of highlighter/brightening stuff and some mascara. Really, the bare minimum that replumps my face and makes me look alive.

Torill Avatar

Yes, sometimes. It really depends on how sick I am. When I have the strength to put on makeup, I do. I look at makeup as fun, and it cheers me up even if I’m sick 🙂

Maja Avatar

If I’m bedridden, then no…that would be pointless! But if not, I’ll wear it as much as I usually do (which is rare).

I’ve been wearing makeup even less as of late because I started dating someone new and I’ve decided not to wear makeup if I’m seeing him that day (though if I already have it on I won’t take it off). 🙂

Jennie P Avatar

When I’m sick, I still where under-eye concealer and cherry Chapstick. For me, I have found it perks me up a bit and makes me feel a little better. Brain trick… 🙂

holly Avatar

This is such funny timing to ask this question, because I am currently on what I hope is the last day of a week long cold and I looked at myself in a mirror yesterday and I looked SO GROSS that I threw on some tinted moisturizer, a little sugarbomb on my cheeks and mascara lol and I swear it made me feel a little bit better! But in general, I only wear makeup when sick if I have to work/go to school.

Magi Avatar

As I try to stay at home when I am sick I don’t wear any makeup. If I am not ill “enough” and have to go somewhere I put on a bit of foundation and brow gel – maybe a bit of blush. I try to skip mascara.

Kayla Avatar

It doesn’t matter how I feel, if I leave the house I have to have makeup on. I’ll usually just wear foundation, a little mascara, and some chapstick if I’m not feeling well though.

Mackenzie Avatar

No way! If i have to leave the house I might through on a little mascara but definitely not my full routine.

When I start to feel better sometimes it’s nice to put extra effort into applying makeup though, makes me feel a little more back to normal and pretty again lol

Lucie Avatar

I do just as a morale booster-slicking on my signature shade of lipstick always me feel better! Even if I’m the only one who sees myself. Foundation/blush/face products I wouldn’t wear though, they rub off when you blow your nose. 😮

Gisele Avatar

The first couple of days, no. The whole thing is just dreck! Once I feel more awake then I’ll use a minimum of stuff. I think it helps at some point to put on some makeup just to feel a bit better about getting sick. Remember to keep up with the skin care.

Kat Avatar

Yes because my undereye circles are usually verging on scare-small-children category, and when I’m sick, you can practically hear me call out “Brains!” So ya…plus my nose gets pretty red and while I love Rudolph, I get the feeling I’d need to be an adorable reindeer to pull off that look.

And I’m actually sick today (I think I’ve got a bit of a sinus infection, my nose hurts!) and I have on foundation, concealer, powder to set it, a bit of slightly shimmery bronzer, my brows filled in and copious amounts of lipbalm.

Emily Avatar

It depends how sick I am and where I’m going…if I do wear make-up when I’m sick I keep it pretty minimal…just enough so I don’t like death.

Yumi Avatar

Not if I stay at home. If I go out then my stance is that since I’m sick, that’s when I need makeup more than ever so I don’t end up looking like a zombie.

Ada Avatar

when i’m sick I look like death’s mother and no amount of makeup will cure that…also don’t want to contaminate my makeup with viral germs..i don’t care if i’m using clean applicators they will still get on somehow

Paige Avatar

honestly, if i’m going to wear makeup, it’s usually just a lipgloss or lipstick and bare study paintpot over my lids. i don’t want to infect them, so no. I sanitize my toothbrush after im sick, and i can’t do that with my lipgloss.

Sharon M Avatar

I don’t wear makeup at home, usually, but won’t leave the house without at least some eyebrow pencil and blush on no matter how awful I feel, especially for work. It also helps fend off the “OMG, you look terrible, are you sick??” comments from coworkers — our sick days are unpaid, and my company gives write-ups as well if people miss too many days, no matter how sick they are. Needless to say a lot of people show up for work sick, and spread it around.

Giosi Avatar

when i’m sick, i never feel like even trying to get ready….even for school…if something special is going on then i’ll use makeup…..besides if i’m sick..i want to look sick so that i dont have people doubting me that i dont feel good….hahaha…yeah i know thats weird..lol

vanetta Avatar

If I’m sick….it won’t make a difference how much makeup I wear. I’ll still look like a MESS until I get better!!! No makeup for me…..I’ll just stick it out

LorraineER Avatar

Only if I have to leave the house to pick something up to make my next few days in the house curled up in a ball in bed or on the couch more comfortable, ;D I have acne, acne scars and lots of redness in my cheeks so I usually put on some mineral foundation, mascara and some tinted lip balm. It’d make me feel worse when I’m sick to also feel like I look bad so I do the bare minimum to make myself feel confident and less blah.

Linnea Avatar

I reduce a lot. Like I’ll just wear some mascara. maybe a little blush so I don’t look so pale. But no foundation/concealer/lip colour (probably a lip balm as it seems that when i get sick my lips get very dry). ** this is only if I have to go out in the world. Home? heck no!

karen Avatar

yes! not wearing makeup makes me feel sad
i go out everyday, there hasnt been a day for a long time that i just stayed home. Staying home makes me anxious. I need to go outside! even if im sick.

Lasya Avatar

Since I am in a vocational tech high school, I can’t really miss that much school. I do have allergies(red eyes, runny nose, flushed cheeks) but, if I have a fever I stay away from makeup. If I wake up looking like a hot mess, here’s what I’ll do:
Conceal dark circles with BB corrector.(dark peach)
Mix MAC strobe liquid with my tinted moisturiser(i mix revlon colorstay with eucerian daily protection for my tinted moisture)
Lightly set with powder(ELF translucent)
Curl eye lashes and use indigo mascara(FLIRT! lengthing in indigo from kohls)
Cream blush(Covergirl simply ageless in lush berry)
lip product(Revlon lip butter in fig jam.)

less is more!!!
