I have blue eyes… and blue eyeshadow on me is HIDEOUS. which sucks because im forever trying to find that perfect turquoise shadow haha!
limecrime duchess is the best so far, but i just cant do blue shadow!
I have blue eyes as well, but I adore teals and blues! Perhaps it’s your application technique, or the other shades you are using with the blues.
I mean, if you did a strictly blue shadow look, that could explain why it looks bad. Or if it isn’t properly blended. I wear blue shadows regularly, but I don’t wear them alone, as I blend other shades into my look (purples, greens, oranges, yellows, browns, coppers). If you tend to wear the colours on their own, perhaps you should try using one or two other shades with the blues.
It could also be that you are using blues that don’t seem to be as attractive against your skin tone. I have more neutral warm undertones, so using warmer blues, especially teals, looks better on my eyes, and if I use a cool blue, using a different warmer shade with the blue allows it to look good.
Rarely. I have olive green eyes and I feel like green eyeshadow does absolutely nothing to make my eyes stand out. If I go for something like a teal or blue green that doesn’t match my eyes it does wonders.
Erm… I actually don’t very often wear brown eyeshadow (give me taupes, purples, bronzes, golds, green/golds and blues teehee), and when I do I almost exclusively wear it as a crease color, but I’ve never really thought of it as matching my eyes? I prefer to wear jewel tones to enhance my eyes.
Well, my eyes are brown, so yes!! There are tons of browns out there! But any other colors are welcome too.
when you match your eye color it doesn’t make your eyes pop as much as they would if you wear complementary colors. When doing makeup on others I usually avoid it. it doesn’t look bad. i guess my art background just flashes the color wheel in my head.
No, I like to wear blues and greys to match my eye color. More often than not it makes my blue/grey eyes pop. The one colour I do avoid is green, because too much green make my eyes look an unhealthy green-grey-yellowish colour! :S
Sadly, no! I have light blue eyes and blonde hair – wearing blue eyeshadow just looks a tad tacky on me. Plus, it reminds me way too much of being young in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I might have thought my mom’s powder blue lids were amazingly pretty when I was five, but now … ? (She’s moved on to better colors now, haha.)
That’s not to dis anybody who makes blue shadow work, of course. I’m sure lots of people, even blue-eyed blondes, do look beautiful in it! Just not for me. I do like teal, really dark navy, blue-green and turquoise eyeshadows on occasion, so I guess I’m a bit matchy sometimes, even if those colors tend toward green or black much more than my own peepers.
I’m fortunate enough to have an eye color with a LOT of colors in it. no matter what color I wear, it just play up a different aspect of it. Blue eyeshadows don’t look THE best on me, but they don’t look awful.(blue is the overarching color-I have shades of green mixed with it)
when I want to do a neutral eye , yes . I have dark brown eyes , like melted chocolate
I have brown eyes and use all kinds of color. I like to use a peach color and brown when I go to school for a more natural look but can’t do brown all over unless, it has some shimmer or a bronze color eyeshadow. Playing with colors is always more fun anyways 🙂
I do, but not always. I wear any color I feel like at the moment.
I don’t avoid any eye color! LOL! But, luckily, my eyes are hazel, mostly green, and my favorite color is purple, which is THE color to make green eyes pop!
My eyes are a light blue and I have never even attempted blue eyeshadow that I can recall. I’ve done eyeliner and shadow in a aqua-ish color, I guess thats pretty close?
I tend to lean more towards browns, golds, and light pinks.
🙂
That’s an absolute no no for me as I have blue eyes.
Yes, because my eyes are brown. But, I love playing with color with it comes to eyeshadows.
Yes, I do. Every once in a while I will do a brown smokey eye or use a shimmery brown based shadow all over (such as MAC club)
I have golden brown eyes so I can pretty much wear anything
I wear a TON of bronze shadow, and I have brown eyes. Warms those things right up!
Yes. My eyes are brown-black but I can still do neutrals or a black-gray smokey eye without making my eyes look dull. I still prefer colour to make my eyes “pop.”
Brown eyes can get away for wearing any colour – it just boils down to my skin tone. =)
I have light brown eyes and do tend to go toward neutral colors but I don’t seek out brown color shadows.
I’ve got bright blue eyes, a mixture of turquoise blue and grey tones; and I wear blue eyeshadow all the time! I avoid baby blue’s, and anything too grey toned. I must say Mac’s eyeshadow in Submarine works wonders, especially for a royal blue smokey eye.
I have blue eyes and wear blues anyway. I don’t know who makes up these “rules.” I do what I want. I do tend to try not to use a heavy hand with them when applying.
Mine are blue, and I love wearing Mutiny pigment, Parakeet from Stars Makeup Haven, Meet the Fleet and Star by Night to enhance them. I don’t think it competes with them at all!
I occasionally do it. I have green eyes and a khaki eyeshadow can actually look fine if I use it married with gold and black. Otherwise, I never use khaki green on it’s own as it’s too close and doesn’t make my eyes pop up at all.
All the time! Sumptuous olive is my very favorite eyeshadow and it matches my eye colour almost exactly. In fact, I love wearing most shades of green eyeshadow.
My eyes are grey/green and I often play with those two colors on my eyes since I find that they really make my eyes pop!
I do! I have green/hazel/brown eyes and I found Greensmoke is really gorgeous and make my eyes pop as more complimenting colors do. I think it’s all about finding the right shade/ hue/ gradation.
Nope, although I always look for a nice blue liner (which I have not found yet). A couple of years ago Estee Lauder had this stunning promotional pic with their model with blue eyes wearing a very blue liner and it looked awesome. The fact that she was bronzed and gorgeous helped of course.
Otherwise, I wear a mix of bronze and purple shades on my blue eyes. That seems to suit me best.
I have green eyes and I don’t have a single green e/s in my stash. I just don’t like the way it looks on me. I find that pinks, peaches, mauves and greys really enhance my eyes.
I have hazel eyes, and I often wear brownish eye shadows, such as the chanel kaska beige quad. And my mum’s got blue eyes (wish I had her eyes… *sigh*) and she rocks a soft blue eye make up!
I find to try out some green now, to see if it makes the green in my eyes stand out!
I have very dark brown eyes and while I do wear brown eyeshadows, it’s not to match my eyes, just if I fancy. I wear every colour in fact.
I have green eyes and I will occassionally match a green shadow with some purple, gold, or brown. It can make for a lovely look.
I do have a hard time pulling off blue shadows with my green eyes…does anyone have any suggestions for blues I should try?
Sometimes, but usually I prefer other colors, especially dark or bright colors
I have blue eyes but rarely wear blue shadow as I am more of a neutral girl myself ! 🙂 But I think, if I had brown eyes, it wouldn’t stop me from wearing brown shadows
Yes! I’ve hazel eyes, but I’ve a mix of a couple greens and browns so I never completely matched my eyes when I wear e/s! (srry that was so long lol!)
Actually, I do :-/ I have dark brown eyes and I LOVE my neutrals wich includes brown. But I never wear a brown shadow all over the lid, I always compair it with a lighter color
I definitely tend to avoid matching shadow on my blue eyes… I did recently purchase MAC’s ‘Love Lace’ shadow hoping that it had enough gray in it to be workable and with a light hand it is….
But generally I don’t look favorably on blue toned eyeshadow regardless of eye color, whether its a trend or not… *shrug*
I have dark green eyes, and my favourite eyeshadow color to wear, aside from taupe-y neutrals, is actually green, but my red hair also makes it easier as I think green goes perfectly with red hair!
Not every shade of green suits my eyes I’d say, but I have a huge selection of green colors that I like to wear, from pastell-green over mint to lime, sage, antique gold, all kinds of grey-greens from light to dark, emerald, spring green, bottle green.. and so on.
I’m always on the hunt for clothes in nice shades of green, which again makes green eyeshadow easier to wear, green’s just my favourite color. 😀
no, I have hazel eyes & though I like green I only put a little on if any. I try to mix different colors for different effects, but i typically dont like the matchy matchy look.
I usually don’t wear shadow that matches my green eyes…usually its purples and browns. I have several pretty greens I could wear together so I may try wearing green more often!
Brown eyes do not like brown eye shadow
Well, I have brown eyes. And I avoid browns like the plague. Not only because neutrals are not my style at all, but browns look horrific on me.
Oh definitely. I LOVE blue eye shadow, screw the rules! :]
I’m the same as Johnfiend, I have blue eyes, or as my husband refers to them “Bley”(blue + gray) so I avoid blue eyeshadows.
It is ironic though, because I am rocking a blue eye today, so I guess I’m a hypocrite! I’ve got on Deep Truth, Cumulus, and Crystal. (I do own blue eyeshadow, but I tend to use it more as an eyeliner). I will wear blue eyeliner though, especially in the water line. It brings out the blue of my eyes a bit.
My eyes are the deep brown color that starts to border on the black, but the softer side, if that makes sense. I don’t like dark browns or black too much and when I do use them I usually mix them in with another color.
I have brown eyes so I definitely love my brown shadows and all the other countless colors Browneyed girls can wear.
I never purposely wear my shadows to “bring out” the color of my eyes..
Same.
I only do so when I am doing a quick 5 minute look, and will be wearing just one eyeshadow and mascara, and maybe liner. With my blue eyes, I tend to go for the browns, as they work nicely with my eye colour and are easy to just throw on without creating a detailed look.
Because I have blue eyes, I don’t wear eyeshadow that matches my eye color very often. When I do I love to wear turquoise blue colors because they make my eyes pop!
Oh yes, I have brown eyes and I love to wear warm brown eyeshadows.
Yes! My eyes are blue green and I love wearing shades of aqua and teal. 🙂
I have brown eyes and rarely wear brown shadow. I prefer the opposite side of the color spectrum, like purples. I really lean towards jewel tones for my eyes to stand out.
Not really. I have dark brown eyes and it so happens that browns are my favorite shades. ^^;; I have yet to discover other colors that would suit me. 😛
brown e/s look GORGEOUS with brown eyes, so yes 🙂 esp purpley browns or blackened browns
YES! I have light brown eyes and I love to wear brown eyeshadow! But I think this maybe easier for the brown-eyed girls to pull off than ladies with other eye colors.
yes, but only because I have brown eyes
No – I have blue-green eyes and blue shadow does not flatter my eye color or the rest of my coloring (red hair, super pale skin. I do like deep teal shades tho, like Chanel Murano quad.
Yes, but only because I love brown (and neutrals in general) and I happen to have brown eyes, not because I want to match the two.
I have dark brown eyes and I don’t particularly avoid it. I just prefer other colors. Like warm pinks and golds, bronzes, and smoky grays is where my heart is. <3
I have dark brown eyes…bordering on black and I do find that I wear browns a lot. I dont think it is to match my eyes, but it is what looks best with my skintone and b/c browns can be used as neutrals for daytime/office looks and can be smoked for darker looks.
I do think that it is easier to wear browns with brown eyes than matching e/s to any other eye color.
I have green eyes and while I like my neutrals …I can wear green eyeshadow as long as it isn’t some wild shade of green and leans on the neutral demure side.
Yes, of course!
Basically, I wear every and any colour that I happen to like. I adore blues, and while some blues look better next to my skin tone than others, it does not prevent me from mixing and matching with my different blue shades.
I have dark brown eyes and i wear dark brown eyeshadow only as a liner.
My eyes are blue-grey, I can wear greys better than blue. I also like light green eyeshadow with my eyes (think springtime skipper).
Funny that this is the question, I was just thinking about this about five minutes ago! Yes.. I recently bought an UB green eyeshadow called Chains (green with gold shimmer) and it is absolutely gorgeous! I don’t mind it with my green eyes, in fact, the colours are quite similar and the shadow looks great paired with an antique gold (I use Benefits Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit).
I use all colours!
I don’t – I have blue/gray eyes and I tend to do badly with cool toned shadows to begin with (gray looks weird and harsh on me).
yes brown eyeshadow looks so good on brown eyes 🙂
No way, I feel like if you do that it just makes your eyes look like a big muddy mess! If you have blue eyes and wanna wear blue, make sure you use a DIFFERENT shade of blue. Same with green, brown, ect. It just looks trashy and unrefined if you wear the same color.
I disagree 100%.
I have blue grey eyes, and I’ve often worn blues that are similar, if not the same shade, to my eye colour. I know how to apply my makeup, and I’ve never looked trashy or unrefined. I’ve seen many women use colours that are very similar to their own eye colour, and unless they have a terrible application technique, it looks absolutely fine.
i’ve tried it. i recently bought the urban decay book of shadows volume 2, and misdemeanor is EXACTLY the color of my eyes. i’ve used it as a liner, and it looks pretty good, but not as an all-over shadow.
I have brown eyes, so when I want a more subtle everyday look, I often use brown eyeshadow. Otherwise, I like playing with colors.
I have brown eyes and I love neutral colors. I have no problem wearing brown shadows, mainly in crease though.
I have light blue/ grey eyes and I use both grey/ silver and blue eye shadows. I find that doing this makes my eyes look more like the other colour (i.e., blue shadows make my eyes look grey and vice versa), but they still work.
Oh course. Some kind of blue/green really empathize my eye colour!
Vale
Yes! I love green eyeshadow. The blue part of my eyes get little love, though…
Yes – I have golden brown eyes with hints of olive green, and shades like Stila Golighty or that old Jane shade magical mushroom were very close – looked great with lots of black liner and mascara.
I do tend to use neutral more though – especially cooler leaning neutrals because they really emphasize the warm gold and green tones. Reddish and purple tones look good too.
I can’t use colors that match my actual eye color which changes but it is normally a medium green. Olives make my eyes look this nasty acid green. I have been playing with lighter and bright greens like the one in my ammo box from urban decay and with other colors they look fine.
I have brown eyes and I stay away from brown eyeshadows that are too close to my eye color. If I wear brown eyeshadow that is too close to my eye color, from far away it looks like I have two giant holes in my face XDD. Also, I find that it makes me look tired. I also find lighter browns (taupes) hard to pull off but that may because they tend to be too warm for my skintone.
brown looks so .. plain.. so yeah i can say i avoid it
