Do you like multi-tasking products?

Do you like multi-tasking products? What are your favorites? Do you prefer uni-taskers?

.

I do! I tend to use things for very specific purposes, but I really like when something can do double (or triple!) duty.

Thanks to Vlcatko for this question!

I love my Fawntastic Cream Colour Base–I use it as an eyeshadow base under my matte shadows (I went through a phase when I only bought matte shadows), apply it along my cheekbones and on the periphery of my cheeks under my foundation for that ethereal glow, slightly above my cupids bow before application of lipliner, and on top of my lower lip after applying lipcolor. I always have it in my bag!

I do too! I like experimenting with products every now and then. In most cases I use cream blush as a lipstick or a lipstick as a blush. I also use gel liners as a base for eye shadow. And I use cheap eye shadows that do not pay much of color (got them as gifts) as highlighters under the brow – just so I don’t throw them lol

Yes!! I can use my foundation as concealer, basically meaning I don’t need concealer. I like using my highlighters for my cheeks, eyes, under my eyebrow arch. Oh and lipstick as cheek stain!!

I love finding new ways to use products – Lipstick as blush is an old trick that I love to do. I also use Lipstick as as eyeshadow base on occasion. Mostly though, I love having the basic tools at hand to custom mix whatever I want…

MAC’s Pigment, Gloss Texture, Matte Texture, a variety of Mixing Mediums (Face & Body, Mascara, etc.) and Lipmixes are some of the most used tools in my kit. I always mix my own mascara. It’s just easier to keep things clean that way.

It depends on the product, like a highlighting e/s for face use, but most of the time I find multitasking products are mediocre at all the things they claim to do.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that I prefer them but I do love them. My all time favourites would have to include MAC’s cream colour bases, pigments and glitters.

Lately I have been using my MAC MSF in Porcelain Pink for an eyeshadow when I want to have a bold lip, as it gives a nice subtle glow! Otherwise I am mostly a uni-tasker!

I’ll usually use products for one purpose only but if I find another use it’s just a bonus, not an incentive to buy. I guess I’m… neutral?

Thincspot Avatar

I love multi-tasking products but I don’t usually buy them as much as I convert existing ones into multi-taskers.

My fave is using various e/s as highlighters and contour powders. Since I like neutrals, a lot of my golds, beiges and browns double up beautifully.

I don’t use many products that are multi-tasking, although I use MSFs to highlight brow bone as well as face, but that’s about it. So if something is advertised as multi tasker, I don’t run out to buy it just for that. I have plenty of make up for separate purposes and I don’t need to carry any with me, so don’t need to save space.

With the exception of pigments/glitters and cream colour bases, I don’t typically buy stuff that’s marketed as multi-purpose. I do use products for other than their specified purpose, though (e.g., eyeshadow or lipstick as blush or highlighter, blush or highlighter as eyeshadow, eyeliner as lipliner, liquid liner on lashes, etc.)

I like multi-colour blushers and bronzers that can be used as eyeshadows as well, especially if some of the shades have a bit of glimmer as well for highlighting. Laura Mercier Shimmer Blocs are great for this – the sections are big enough to handle a reasonable size brush.

Scott Barnes Creme Colors are great for both cheeks and lips – more pigmented and not as flat looking on lips as Stila CC’s. Native is especially gorgeous!

Sometimes. Some multi-taksers wind up doing several things just ok. In those cases, I’d rather have great single purpose products. Every now and then, though, you find something that does a few things well.

I love to use multi-taskers, especially when I’m in a rush. Favorites include Stila convertible colors, Nars multiples/cremeblushes, and MAC CCB/cremeblushes.

I don’t have a preference. For me, whether or not a product is a multitasking one, somehow I wind up using it for only one purpose, either way. Even if it isn’t the main purpose the product was intended for.

For example, I have one cream blush that I use exclusively on my lips.

Liz Avatar

not really, I like my product to be for a specific purpose. like blush for blush, lip for lip. you get the point…. even if the product are multi purpose,I would buy two so I can have one for lip and pne for cheek….. i’m just abnormal like that

I use Mac’s Espresso as an eyeshadow and for filling in eyebrows; Mac’s Painterly paint pot as eye shadow base and concealer; Mac MSF in By Candlelight as a blusher, overall face highlighter and even as an eyeshadow. LOVE products that multi-task.

Tessa Avatar

Constantly! I am so happy to see so many shout outs for Cream Colour Bases too – love them. I think they’re so underrated and I wish Mac would do a collection with some new ones.

It also bugs me to see people waste money on stuff that could be duped with products they already own. For example, I too buy mostly matte colours – when you’ve got Vanilla pigment why would you ever need to buy a shimmery anything?

Also is it just me or do so many highlighters look identical on the skin? I have one MSF, Vanilla pigment and Nars Copacabana. Why would I ever want another one? I’d rather buy lipsticks and CCBs instead!

Luisafer Avatar

nope… don’t like the same consistency all over my face 😛
I think you need specific products, like washing your hair with soap no no no…

Lorna Avatar

yes because it feels like more for your money. but that’s only true if it multitasks well as in it does all things well and not just one thing and the other things mediocre. (if that makes any sense at all..)
