Do you like cream eyeshadows?

Do you like cream eyeshadows? Prefer powders?  Only use them as bases?

.

I like them, but I very, very rarely use them alone.  I might use sheerer, lighter shades as all-over washes, but I can’t even remember the last time I did an all cream eyeshadow look.  I think there’s something about the potential to crease that always has me wear them with pwoders!

Most of the cream eyeshadows I’ve tried have dried way too fast to be blendable, and I’ve ended up with weird stark lines across my eyelids. I stick to pressed or dusts.

I use only powder shadows, mostly pressed. I end up with a ton of fallout with loose powder shadows, and cream shadows always crease on my lids, no matter if I use UDPP or not. I do have a Stila smudge pot in Kitten, and that didn’t crease, but it did have an oily look as the day went on, and it didn’t blend at all even immediately after application. So I just go with pressed powder shadows! 🙂

I have only used Benefit’s R.S.V.P. and Birthday Suit and I like to use them alone. I’ve used R.S.V.P. several days this week just with a color liner. Or dust a tid bit of Your Ladyship over it one day then color liner. They crease after about 10 hours but I find it’s easier than powders to move it around my eyelid if I’d still out and sheer it out more. So yes, I do like cream shadows :).

I like them as bases for powder and pigment eyeshadows most of the time. I can’t deal with fall out with pigments! I like using pressed powder eyeshadows for their convenience (no fall out) and their longevity (creams expire faster).

I have used, however, NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils in French Fries smudged on my lash line (faded to a little beyond my non-existent crease) to get a smoky neutral eye. I really liked the effect & look. It didn’t crease in the 5-7 hours I wore it.

To be fair, I don’t think it’s possible for creams to crease on my eyelids because I’m a monolid, therefore, I have NO CREASE, HENCE the question “What’s creasing with out a crease?!.” XD

I use cream shadows as bases for powder shadows; if I wear cream shadows on their own, they usually feel kind of tacky on my eyelids. The only exception I’ve met with was a green drugstore cream shadow; that thing was actually pretty awesome, gave enough time to blend and wore like iron without any primer.

For me, I don’t know that a creaseless eyeshadow (without powder on top) exists, even with a primer. Cream blushes are way more useful to me!

I mostly use powder. BUT, when I have no time in the morning for makeup I usually do an eye look by slapping indianwood paintpot all over the lid with my finger and putting rubenesque paintpot on top of it. It makes the most beautiful bronzy-rose gold colour and takes about 2 seconds to apply. Pop on some mascara and good to go!

Nic Avatar

I like cream shadows, but I don’t own many, and I rarely use them on their own – more often as bases for powder shadow. Though sometimes I’ll just put a single UD cream shadow or MAC paint on my lid with liner and mascara for a simple look.

I LOVE my Shiseido Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow! Lovely on their own, as a base mixed in with pressed… Big fan, wish they had a broader color range.

Salvinia Avatar

I’ve never used a cream shadow that didn’t crease like crazy, so I’ve basically given up on them. I do use MAC paint as an eyeshadow base, but that’s it.

I love layering black cream eyeshadow up to create a really dramatic, glossy look. I have quite a punky/grunge style so when it creases, it just adds to my outfit!

Leea Avatar

I just use them as a base, a paint pot from mac is a cream shadow right? 🙂
Well, if the PP’s are, then I also just put rubenesque on my entire lid for the (eyeshadow) look of the day : )

i don’t like cream eyeshadows.
i have truly problems with blending them. either they go very sheer, nearly invisible when try to blend or they stay with harsh lines.

Connie Avatar

I love using cream eyeshadow as base to make my powder eyeshadow look more vibrant or even change the color of my powder eyeshadow. On its own, I wouldn’t unless I’m very sure that it wouldn’t crease but it’ll just be a nude wash

Jen Avatar

I don’t like the way cream shadows go on. It probably has a lot to do with me and my cream shadow application skills but… All the same. Two thumbs down on cream shadows.

Mindy Avatar

I can’t stand them. I’ll use my nyx jumbo pencils sometimes over primer and super blend them so it’s a sheer tacky-feeling layer just to make the colour pop for powder shadow but that’s about it. All cream shadows crease on me and it seems like a waste if I can only wear them completely sheered out. I like bold colour payoff! 😀

Simone Avatar

if paintpots count I use them everyday! if not I don’t use them often at all, maybe just on the lower part of the lid to make a colour stand out but nowhere near anywhere it could crease

Daphnee Avatar

Good Morning!

I never really used cream shadows; but this weekend I purchased a Benefit cream shadow (Busy Signal) and I love it! I have oily lids and with my TFSI, the shadow didn’t crease. Plus, a little goes a long way!

Crissy Avatar

I don’t have many cream shadows, the only ones I have are the paint pots by MAC and i love them! My favorite is bare study and I use it basically everyday just either by itself or with a neutral color on top. Overall I think I prefer powder shadows but the mac paint pots are amazing!

Tessa Avatar

Painterly from Mac is the only one that I don’t have to set with a powder, because it sets matte. I do sometimes wear that one alone just to make my lids look a bit “cleaner”. Other than that I usually use them as a base, although sometimes I’ll only add powder shadow over part of the cream, like in the crease.

Dini Avatar

I do not like cream shadows. The few I have tried have magically disappeared on me or turned into an oily mess on my lids within one hour. Using them as bases is a great idea, but I find that a lot of cream shadows are too expensive to use only as a base for specific colors. I’d rather save some cash and use a neutral or colorless primer.

Charlene Avatar

I only use Revlon ones and they crease badly but if you really want to wear them you can do the reverse.
After using a primer, lightly dust eye with powder and dont use alot of the creme shadow and it should last you longer and crease less.
Or you can use them as a base if used lightly after applying primer.
PS Revlon eye colors are my drug store addiction. LOL

Abril Avatar

I love paintpots! I use to wear Bare Study and Constructivist by them self and without primer (when I did not know what UDPP was) and they lasted all day long! Now I only wear them under eyeshadows…

dolce aria Avatar

I have some cream shadows that don’t crease, and I like using them as bases, sometimes even doing contours and blending with different shades before applying powder on top, but yes, its too hard to evenly blend like that for the complexity I like doing in my makeup looks so I rarely do a look thats ALL cream shadow.

I use benefit skinny jeans almost everyday. You can do a foolproof and super easy smokey eye using only a dark cream shade and a powder shadow. Start by applying a cream shadow on your lid and blending it up toward your brow with your finger, then pack the lighter powder shadow onto your lid and blend upward in a fan motion (parallel to the lash line) to smoke it out. some highlighter and you are good (and sultry) to go!

Melly Avatar

When I’m in a hurry, I love using my bare study or rubenesque paint pot on my lid.

By the way, you have a typo where it’s supposed to say powders (you have pwoders).

condesa Avatar

as you do, I only use cream e/s as a base or a wash… or just the outer corner (in a dark shade)… love Benefit creasless cream, but an all cream look is quite hard to achieve, so I mix w/ powder e/s

ChauDM Avatar

I love Urban Decay cream e/s and Bobbi Brown metallic long wear ones. They are high quality and provide fantastic result. The Urban Decay ones have great color payoff, and are buildable. I love the purple and the champagne color ones the most (sorry I don’t remember their fancy names, ouch). For Bobbi Brown, I think the sparkling metallic e/s, even though sheer, adds a really beautiful sophisticated touch to any look.
