Do you like collections with a theme?

Do you like collections with a theme? Do you like color or conceptual themes?

In general, I like the idea of a cohesive collection–if they’re going to market it as such.  Generally, I don’t care, because I only care about individual products and how good they are.

I think themed collections turn me off a bit — corny packaging & too many connotations dep. on the theme perhaps. I’d rather the collection be focused solely on the products themselves.

Yes. I think it’s just more fun when there’s a theme. I love some of the themes MAC has come up with for their collections and the way they go all out with the names and the packaging.

I love themed collections but un-themed collections are great too, it doesn’t really make a difference since quality is the most important. I also love the different packaging you usually get from themed releases!

i like to have the choice of both but to be honest, i’m more attracted to something off-the-wall and conceptual. i like collections where each piece is like part of a large puzzle… 🙂

I like themes with a certain colour in mind, it doesn’t all have to be different shades but complimentary at least. I was a bit puzzled by the Estee Lauder Wild Violet e/s quint – the one with only 1 purple e/s…
And that came after Surreal Violet, which was much more purple so it doesn’t seem too terribly cohesive to me. More like they had the idea of ‘Purple’ and how much that could do with it, than unique products…
But things like Venomous Villians seemed all about packaging (and not particularly lovely parts at that) and marketing and not so much about the colours so that doesn’t appeal as much to me.

i always think that i do- like “oh, a Nudes collection- i’l buy everything!” i was like that for Warm and Cozy, Style Black, Sugarsweet… but because of my budget i only ever buy from one collection two things maximum, so it actually doesnt make a difference for me.

I like themes. It often turns out that if I like one or two products or colors from a theme, I end up buying several. I love pinks and purples, so I’m really looking forward to the MAC Quite Cute collection. Some time ago I really loved the colors from their Up the Amp! collection. It also seems true for nail polishes–I really like the OPI Swiss collection for winter and I bought several colors.

Not really…in fact, I don’t like “collections” at all, to be honest. It just seems to be one more way to get us to want and spend on more cosmetics that we could all probably do without quite nicely. I like it when companies release new products (because they’ve found something “better”, a better or different formulation, for example – MAC’s ProLongwear comes to mind or their Mega Metal shadows – but collections just to compel us to buy more….I could probably live quite happily without them (and paying a premium for “special packaging” really gets up my nose!)

Yes, I like themed products! Usually themed ones come with cute packaging or maybe pictures of the product used in ways I wouldn’t think of. I love how a lot of nail polish is themed; the cheesy punny names always make me chuckle.

Becca Avatar

yes, generally, especially when they have cute packaging!!!!!!
I just love seeing how creative the makeup makers or producers can get 🙂

i love collections with a theme, but i HATE gimicks. unfortunately, the cosmetics industry is full of gimicky products with exaggerated or false claims.

I love collections with themes. Im a sucker for cute packaging but if i dont like the color or the product i wont buy it. Ive been very disappointed in MACs collections lately. Not enough colors I need even though i like the packaging. Fafi and Naughty Nauticals are still my favorite themes.

I don’t really care it’s more about the colors and how they look on me although I may be more partial to a collection that has a past decade, or past decades plural as a theme. That I may like and look into.

I do love the collections, especially the ones MAC does. But what I DON’T like about them is that most of the colors are limited edition, so if you fall in love with the colors and go through them quickly, you cannot buy them again. 🙁 sad face.
