Do you like celebrities crossing into beauty?

Do you like celebrities crossing into beauty? Does it just depend on the celebrity?  Does it even matter?

I don’t follow many celebrities, so having a celebrity’s name or backing doesn’t make or break a line for me.  I try to keep up with new products, so I’ll certainly check them out, but I won’t rush out to buy it.

Having a celebrities back a product doesn’t make me want to buy, I don’t care who backs the product as long as I like what I purchase I’m fine with It

I don’t really get excited when a celebrity backs a product. The reason is because how many of those celebrities actually do their own makeup or really even know about makeup? The only time that I have ever wanted to try a makeup product from a ‘celebrity’ is when make-up artist Carmindy was working with Sally Hansen on their Natural Beauty line…which I really like btw.

I don’t follow celebrities. And my beauty product purchasing decisions aren’t influenced by them. I don’t rush out to buy “the latest thing because… OMG!!! So and so is wearing it!!!”

First off, I find most celebrities revolting, so if it’s one of those, it’s an automatic no for me (looking at you, Kim Kardashian!), unless it’s like really one in a million amazing. Even if I did like the person, not sure I would automatically put down my money just because of that. It’s more about the product and how well it works.

it wouldn’t be a deal breaker to me (unless it’s someone i really loathe, don’t have a good example right now…)
but I would definitely be weary of the quality price ratio

Currently there is no celebrity that does really interest me but in the past there were some that would make me buy such a product. Not really because I would believe she or he uses it or that they really like it, but it’s like with products that for exsample have the same name like me. It’s more fun.

Finally it would depend on the quality. If it’s trash I wouldn’t buy but I purchased GAGA lipstick because it attracted me more that pink shades like this ever have done before. Very strange.

I don’t have a problem with celebrities promoting a cosmetics product, but I don’t rush out the door to buy it. I buy a product because it’s good quality, not because a certain celeb gets a big bag of money to promote it.

I personally am not a fan of all these celebrities coming out with clothing lines/ shoe lines , makeup , or fragrance lines. Most of the time , they arent even involved in the production. Now sometimes they are involved in the creation , and you can see the passion that goes into their product. Those are the celebrity lines I will support.

Honestly i feel the same whether or not a celebrity is backing a product means nothing to me. What matters to me is what the product has to offer. If its something i dont already have is it new fresh and exciting. Things like that.

I think the quality of product is what counts. However, I can’t stand Kat Von D. Even if one of your reviews was glowing and lifechanging, I’d still pass it up. As far as annoying celebrities, she’s probably the only one whose personality would stop me from purchasing. Tarina Tarantino products swatch like crap, so I skip that too. As well, no amount of Drew Barrymore posing and dancing around will ever get me to purchase anything other Cover Girl mascara. The quality has to shine through first and foremost.

Not necessarily, sometimes the celebrity’s backing makes me never want to purchase their products b/c there is just something about them I don’t like, i.e. Josie Maran Or Kat von D.

I learned in my social-psychology course that this is called the peripheral or heurisic route… Where people are otherwise distracted and use peripheral cues (such as a celebrity) to automatically accept information as to whether a product is good or not VS the central or systematic route where a product is backed by facts (quality/price/etc)

i don’t believe in glorifying celebrities more then they already are by the media, so i’d never buy a product just because it’s endorsed or “made” by a celebrity. Besides, most of the time it’s all about money and they don’t really care about the actual products or the consumers.

It’s actually a turn off for me. I won’t buy it because I associate their products with cheap quality. Actually, maybe tacky is a better word. I did end up using Mariah Carey’s first perfume because I love her, but I was soon turned off by the scent:/

To be honest, having a celebrity backed brand makes me more wary of purchasing the product. This doesn’t stop me from trying it out in the store first though!

If they are passionate about the product, fashionable or have something new to say then yes I can understand them backing something. Having their name on it just because you are famous (and that word has been stretched to the breaking point these days) is irrelevant. I don’t really care who backs a product. I care if the product is priced for the quality level you are getting and something I would use.

I don’t like the celebrity system. That whole machine bothers me. I’m more likely to stay away from a product that I know is being pushed by one of them just to maintain a safe distance from it all.

I agree. I tend to find celebrities who back up their own make up brand to be less of quality. For example Kat Von D’s make up line is horrible! The tatoo concealer is a complete crock!

Celebrities can make NOT want to buy. If I don’t like the person, I won’t buy the product they’re promoting. It’s a matter of principle to me. Same reason I won’t watch shows like Kate plus 8 or Umpteen Kids and Counting and why I won’t buy another Alicia Keys or Leann Rimes cd. I’m just not going to support anything someone I find distasteful does.

First and foremost, let’s not forget that celebrities are walking billboards for a plethora of products. They get paid big bucks to lend their identity to a product. They are also highly susceptible to flattery. Endorsing a make-up or skin care line or perfume is the ultimate vanity trip. Add to that the fact that they are often photoshopped beyond recognition and I’m certain that no one would buy a product just because so-and-so a shill for a particular item. Actually, when I see ads with the likes of Kate Blanchette or Julia Roberts (to name just two), the dishonesty so clearly illustrated by the doctored photos makes me distrust the product.

I think pretty much every photo is doctored unfortunately, celebrity and otherwise. I’m crazy, I know but I look very closely at those ads for things that supposedly hid lines and if you do look carefully you can still see them. I completely ignore mascara ads for example because those photos are too perfect to be real or you can actually see the fake lashes added b/c they have not been touched up well enough. I will say though, if Monica Bellucci is wearing a nice lipstick I do check it out b/c it always looks great on her! lol

Yeah, it’s usually just another source of income for them. I’m not about to support an initiative just to fund someone else’s Bentley when they really don’t care about what they’re putting their name on.

Celebrities rarely matter to gals like us who are really into makeup and are more familiar than the general public with what’s out there and what we like. But to the public, celebrity endorsements can make a huge difference.

I dont follow the celebrities.
I sometime follow the season’s colour – Neutral looks for Winter.

Most of time, I look at the product that I’m interesting in – no matter what brand.

If anything, I think celebrities putting their names on a product can be a turn off. I like Mariah Carey’s and Gwen Stefani’s perfumes and I understand they’re both very involved in the production, but there are so many celebrities with their own fragrance now, it’s ridiculous. Also, if someone I don’t like endorses a product, it makes me not want to get it. A-list celebrities make enough money, so I don’t know why they feel the need to make those silly commercials, especially if they never even used the product beforehand.

They do influence me in a degree, and I think they do so for a lot of people.
Of course it depends on the celebrity and what they’re thrying to sell.
For example who wouldn’t buy a hair product that had Jennifer Aniston’s name on it? I know that it’s silly, but I would!

Having a celebrity back the product will generally not make me want a product, however I did buy both Viva Glam Cyndi and Gaga from MAC (but I really liked the colors. If I didn’t like them, I wouldn’t have bought them just because its Cyndi and Gaga) I’d already have to really like the celebrity to buy it just for them, but most of my favorite celebs are males and they generally don’t do makeup.

I’m not usually a fan of celebrity endorsements, it just feels like there’s an extra person taking a cut of the money. I also doubt whether the celebrity has had much of an input to the product (OPI’s Beiber collection!! What??? like he understands the difference between a jelly and a cream)

But I do like it when a celeb brings attention to an area of the market forgotten be the brands (like Nicole’s Dainty Doll collection)

This will sound snooty, but my makeup bag has nothing that the ‘celebs’ endorse. Covergirl, Maybelline, Almay, etc. I tend to go with Nars, Mac, BE and Smashbox. No B-Listers there! But I do admit to adoring what Kim & Kourteny K. Wear…but, like who they vote for for President, I ignore what they have to say in terms of Beauty/skincare.

Sure, when the products fill a void in the marketplace; like Queen Latifah’s Queen line with Cover Girl or Iman cosmetics. I think there names are the reason why the lines were put out there in the first place. Both lines have a good following.

For me, it all comes down to quality in the end.
If the quality is crap, it won’t matter whose name is on it because I’m not going to buy it anyway.
Neither will a celeb name linked to a product make me want to buy the product more. I buy something because I like it; not because Celeb So-and-So highly commend it.

Due to the fact that I have a background in marketing, I love it when celebrities start making their way into the beauty sector. I loved it when Eve, Little Kim, Mary J. Blige, and Missy Elliot all began partaking in MAC’s marketing campaigns. They added a different flavor.

as spokesperson, yes. I don’t care for covergirl but I really enjoy Drew’s layouts–the MUA and photography is fab and she’s a stunner. and Julia Roberts always looks so beautiful. as long as they pick the right brand. (I’ve seen a few headscratchers though).
