Do you keep empty cases and boxes?

Do you keep empty cases and boxes? Even when you’ve finished the product inside?

I don’t keep boxes, and I don’t keep cases unless they’re actually reusable. If they’re not, then I try to recycle them if they’re recyclable.

YES. YES. YES. AND YES! I keep any packaging my makeup comes in. I don’t know why, but I just can’t seem to let them go! I have a big drawer in my vanity reserved for empty boxes, cases, and packaging my makeup came in. It’s also good if you do swaps on Makeupalley since you can always say “comes with box” or whatever (:

I used to keep the boxes when I was actively swapping makeup. I don’t now, unless of course if they are MAC (not boxes, though).

More companies should do a recycling programme.

I do luv storing the functional kinda boxes even after the product is over…They make excellent storage boxes…For eg. taping a few empty benefit boxed blushes makes a nice and colorful accessory holder 🙂

I always keep jars or tubs especially those deluxe sample or travel sized jars and bottles (I use those for travel I just remove the labels). For example: I LOVED CARGO’s lipgloss duo tubs, once I was done with the gloss I’d wash it out and use it for random things like mints, coughdrops, gum holder (to keep the other stuff in my purse from getting sticky). Or while traveling, it was a convenient place to store my daily vitamins. In terms of boxes, I keep it if it’s pretty. I really like Tarina Tarantino’s packaging, it looks so luxe and pretty so I’ve kept it. Other than that I usually keep package boxes for a week-month just in case I need to make a return. On a related note-If I like a product, I cut off the label that states the name and keep it in my makeup case for future reference. Other than that I’ve gotten into the habit of recycling everything else.

Yes I do. I keep empty boxes, packages, cases, even used up eyeliner stubs and empty makeup compacts and eyeshadow pots. I’m a hoarder, I can’t help it..Oh save me already.. ._.

I tend to only keep pretty cases and boxes that I can reuse as well. However, sometimes I store items in their original boxes if it would make storing easier. (Exhibit A: Rouge G)

After finding that I wanted to return an item but couldn’t because I had thrown away the box, I keep boxes now. I keep them until I make a decent dent in the item and am sure that I love it and will not throw it away. I also keep high end boxes (chanel, cle de peau) because they are pretty, it’ll be easier to transport this way, and also I may want to store the items in their boxes in the future. Until I don’t have any more room to store boxes, I will continue to store them

I’m a mad depotter. If I can put it into a pallete, I get it into one as quickly as I can. Empty MAC cases go Back to MAC. Origins did something where they took empty cases and gave a discount, but I don’t know if they still do.

If I can reuse a case, I might. The tin from my Tokidoki Soda Shop pallete got used by my son. It’s magnetic, so I reserve the right to use it for makeup once he’s done. I can put a few metal sheets in there and get a double, or maybe triple, layer pallete. That’s an exception, though. I try to get as much out of my house as I can. No clutter=clean house=happy life. 😀

I keep them for a short while after purchasing in case I need to return whatever I bought either because I changed my mind (without using) or because I used it and it didn’t work for me. After the return period on the receipt is done, I get rid of the receipt and boxes.

I keep the boxes on things I’m not 100% sure that I want to keep in case I want to return/swap/sell them. I’ll keep MAC packaging so I can get free stuff doing Back 2 Mac!

I keep some boxes only until I’m sure I won’t return the product. If they’re pretty limited edition boxes, I do tend to keep them. I have a habit of leaving my MAC products in their ltd. ed. packaging, even after I’ve used them. I can’t bring myself to just throw away something that’s really cute or pretty.

I’ve kept packaging for items I don’t think will travel very well, such as MAC’s cleans off oil. The “locking” cap isn’t secure enough to just throw into my makeup bag, so I’ve kept the box and I pack that baby up whenever I travel.

Boxes – no, unless they’re from something limited edition or are simply darling (like tokidoki or Sugarpill packaging, I have a soft spot for cutsey things like that). Cases – if I can find a way to reuse them or for Back 2 Mac, yup. Or if they’re again, cute or limited edition. But otherwise I get rid of them.

Heidi Avatar

No I don’t. I crush them up and take them out to the recycle bin. I’m too much of a minimalist, I can’t stand needless things just sitting around even if it’s in a drawer.

I HOARD EVERYTHING. I store all my boxes from brands at Sephora in medium sized Sephora bags, and all my MAC boxes in a MAC bag! Everything else goes in various bags I have lying around. And I never throw anything away, just in a box with old makeup that I don’t ever use obviously lol

Veneeta Avatar

Only this morning I was thinking why am I keeping all these boxes? I actually threw one away. I do keep all the boxes that my MAC products come in and well I keep all my high end makeup boxes but not drugstore, they are recycled immediately.
