I do the same thing but I’ll think “maybe I’ll wear this tomorrow!” or if I get ANYTHING I must swatch it and swatch and compare (like what shadows go with what, lip glosses that go with lipsticks!)

Samantha Avatar

Christine, you’re not the only one!! Late at night I’ll be looking through my stash and I’ll think “hey let’s see what this looks like” or “what can I do with this product?”. I usually don’t do a whole face of makeup but right before I shower I try and create a new look. Sounds like I’m wasting make up but it’s my creative process!! Also, for exams, most girls wear sweats and wear no make-up but for me I always make sure I get dressed up for my exams. It might seem weird but I just feel more alive and awake!

monica Avatar

I put full on make up before exams too..i think it just helps me pull everything together and look extra ready for any test..sounds kind of dumb but hey anything to get an A!

Deborah Avatar

I’m weird about soap; I’ll have like five or six different bars open at a time sitting in my shower caddy. I have different “moods” for soaps. Sometimes I want to smell fresh so I grab my Lever2000, other days I wanna do fruity, so I’ll go for my LUSH Sexy Peel soap, the next, I’ll use some unscented shea butter soap. I’m weird. Anyone who peeks in my bathroom and sees it always asks why I have like half a dozen bars of soap sitting in my shower. LOL

Katie Avatar

I do the exact same thing, right now i have:

1. lush Honey i washed the kids
2.lush porridge
3. dial lemongrass and grapeseed oil
4. 5 different gels i cant name
5. 3 different CYS soaps.

my mom tells me im crazy. i say im totally BA….lol

Az Avatar

When I’m a little bored but not enough to do a full face, then it’d be 1 eye only. Or put on lipstick and do house chores, then look at a mirror everytime I pass by one.

Or close my eyes to pick out 4-5 e/s and pigment and try to work with them.

Whitney Avatar

CHRISTINE, I do the same thing! Trying new looks.
Also, I do this goofy thing when I put mascara on, I open my mouth like an O and tilt my head. like stretching my face is going to help or something. HAHAHA

Amanda Avatar

I’ve been pulling a you lately. I never really got to play with my spring color forecast, or liberty of London stuff and to top it off pret a papier! So my nights consist of playing with those products and curling my hair 🙁 haha so I guess you can say I’m pulling a temptalia!

Christina Avatar

1. I use THREE different shadows to fill in my brows
2. instead of lotion, I use jojoba oil as an all-over-the-face moisturizer before applying make-up
3. I always put lipgloss/lipstick on AFTER doing my hair so the strands don’t stick to my lips while I’m styling it!
4. I match my earrings/accessories to my make-up instead of my outfit 🙂

Diligent Shopper Avatar

I do the same thing Christine.. I like to put some lipstick on before I go to bed. Also, before I take the shower, I try on some mascaras and eyeshadow combinations so I know which combo looks best on me. Then I take everything off in the shower. What a waste right?

milaxx Avatar

Don’t know if I have anything really weird. I’ll list a few thing other people may not do:
– In the summer I put makeup on my legs because they are spotted from being a tomboy as a child.
– Being AA the only thing that keeps my feet from being ashy is vaseline, so in the mornings after a shower, I slather it on and then wear socks while getting dressed so my feet don’t slip in my shoes.

CeeBee Avatar

I always have to curl the eyelashes on my right eye first – carnage (and much swearing, blinking and the odd tear ensue) if I attempt otherwise.
I have absolutely NO problem curling my left eye, I just HAVE to do it after my right eye.

I don’t know why – when I put my contacts in, it’s always left one first!

That and I have a tendency to hold my breath when applying mascara… except, I usually don’t notice until – I – can’t – breathe!

Ally_D Avatar

I sometimes do a different look on each eye when I know I’m not leaving the house. There are so many different combos I want to try – this way I get through them twice as fast! 🙂

My husband always looks at me weirdly when I do this, shakes his head and laughs.

Lili Avatar

Same here…Sometimes I go to the bathroom late at night and I get so tempted when I see my make-up that I start playing with it. Sometimes I do just 1 eye or both eyes but different MUs.

condesa Avatar

Something strange that you can do only if u live in the countryside and have vineyards! In early spring, the vine branches are cut to allow new fresh branches and sprouts to grow. In the process, cut branches let the sap drop out (we say the the vine “cries”); my mother collects the sap in plastic bottles. This sheer liquid is the best skin serum , as it is fresh and full of vitamins and antioxidants (it’s indeed the blood of the plant! it’s the stuff we pay high $$ in HE skincare! and I have it fresh!).
We use that as an extra treatment on clean skin at night. It’s a booster for dull skin! (we freeze in mono-doses the exceeding sap and use it, one dose at the time, during the year).
Strange procedure, but a real beauty treatment!

AnGeLwInGz Avatar

That sounds great. So many expensive creams boast that “vinoplex” as a key anti-aging ingredient. You’re very lucky to have it in its purest form.

Mirna Avatar

WOW, I want to do wine tasting now and then ask about this! The Santa Ynez Valley, in CA by where I live, has wine tasting on actual vineyards… yay I love learning about new tricks and so forth!!!! Thanks for sharing Condesa.

Victoria Maria Avatar

I put makeup on, but I do left and right side different, so I Can see which is more flattering! I do this often when I am trying new colours and teqnicues/-)

Katie Avatar

I do that too all the time! My housemates will walk by and ask if they can go out with me to wherever I’m going but I always have to just say, “It was just for fun!”. There’s something about putting on makeup at night that’s more fun that it is in the day!

kali Avatar

I don’t know if this is a beauty ritual but I can’t do anything in the morning unless I brush my teeth first. Brushing my teeth wakes me up and starts my day. I can’t put on makeup (eye makeup, face,..), get dressed, eat breakfast, etc. unless I’ve brushed my teeth first. If someone’s in the bathroom, I just lay in bed until they’re done -even if it takes forever.

ChauDM Avatar

Christine I used to do the same thing – all the years when I was in college!!!! Whenever I got bored with books and assignment, I just put on make up. It was so much fun so much better than studying 🙂 My roommates first always wondered if I was about to go out, but then they became familiar with that weird stuff I did 🙂 Anyway it was fun, and I feel happy we do the same thing 🙂

JamieJamez Avatar

I also tend to put my makeup on really late at night only to have my hubby give me the side eye like I’m crazy. It’s just easier trying on new looks knowing I have nowhere to rush too. The other thing I think is weird is I and two of my sister put on tutorials for each other. Instead of getting regular letters or e-mails we just send videos on our hauls. HAHA

Leah Avatar

I won’t put mascara on unless I curl my lashes first since they’re so straight and I have a bad habit of peeling chipped nail polish, haha.

ivette Avatar

thanks!! this is so sweet it totally made my day!!.. I will I promise, I’ve been buying bright lipsticks to someday (soon) wear them out

Kim Avatar

I do this too! I actually started off with a spreadsheet for all of my nail polish, but now I’ve expanded that to all of my makeup. Of course, my nail polish one is the most detailed, with swatches and notes, plus how often I’ve worn them.

Mirna Avatar

Hahahahaaa! No way! I did that too! Prevents me from buying dupes at MAC. I am going to start carrying that spreedsheet with me as soon as I finish adding the new stuff I bought.

mars Avatar

I do beauty multitasking. Time is rare for me to get to pamper myself so you can sometimes find me sitting in my underwear with a deep conditioner in my hair with my head wrapped in foil, queen helene mint julep mask on my face, letting the self tanner on my legs dry while I give myself a manicure. It looks crazy weird but it’s incredibly timesaving

mars Avatar

Also I drive around with hot rollers in my hair when I pick up my babysitter.
I like to let nail polish dry while driving. After buckling & starting the car I paint my nails before I start driving because I know they won’t get messed up like I always manage to do at home

AnGeLwInGz Avatar

I have to wear a different shadow every day. I always match my makeup to my underwear. Right side is always applied before left. Lipstick is always put on the top lip first, but gloss is always applied to the bottom lip first. Fingers and toes have to match also, but that’s more to appease my boyfriend. It’s his pet peeve.

Sophie Avatar

I swatch shadows on my arm too!! I always have to wait to get dressed after I do my make-up because otherwise I get eyeshadow all over my shirt.

Roxanne Avatar

I do full looks on my arm XD I don’t want to have to keep taking makeup off my eyes (they get irritated), so I just prime my arm and apply eyeshadow in eye shapes!

Mirna Avatar

I have the same “weird” ritual as you Christine. Before I go to bed, I will think of ways to enhance the look I did for that day. I’ll start watching makeup tutorials on YouTube with my Iphone and then I get inspired to try something. Like last night, I watched your video on contouring and highlighting, then I tried it! lol. I commented on how I finally have a use for my MAC fan brush 😀

Kathy Avatar

The weirdest “beauty ritual” I have has to do with showers/body care. I almost make a calendar of some sorts about when I’m going to use a specific scent/product. I have this kind of thing planned out WAY ahead of time, too! Even if I’m not in the mood to wear a specific scent, I do anyway if I’m scheduled to do so!

I guess you could say I’m OCD about my bath products. Haha.

dolce aria Avatar

I put on makeup mostly when I’m not leaving the house, I compulsively reapply if i have the materials with me, I compulsively organize my collections, I carry a sketch pad at work so i can sketch out color combination’s and contours i want to try.

Alyssa Avatar

I do my eyes before foundation. And I do my foundation with my fingers, but I don’t think that’s odd… it’s the best application, IMO.

Sarah Avatar

i do this to. just put on my eye cream, concealer, eyeliner, eyeshadow then the rest so that if i make a mistake i can correct it without smearing or anything since i sometimes use wet, cream, liquid, or loose tints.

Anitacska Avatar

I’m the complete opposite. I won’t put on make up late in the day or change something if I’m already wearing it (like a different lipstick, etc.) because it feels like wasting make up. Even though I have more make up than I can ever use up, I don’t want to use it for just experimenting!

Julia Avatar

AHahahaha this is hilarious. My weird thing to do is (and this is also late at night, and also when my boyfriend isnt around) I do two different looks on each side of my face and decide which i like better.

Annie S Avatar

The only “weird” thing I do is in the morning I bring all of my face products into the bathroom, use them, then put them back, then I take all my eye products into the bathroom, use them, put them back…. I will not and can not take it all into the bathroom at once.

Also when I do my eye makeup I always start with the right eye, yet the left eye ends up looking better every time… even when i attempt to do it first

Pamela Avatar

I use scotch tape everyday before applying makeup to get rid of dry flaky patches on my face…thats kind of strange I think. It works though, it makes your skin look so smooth.

Roxanne Avatar

Does the glue on the tape bother you at all? I find that sticky things (tape, glue, etc) makes my skin red and itchy :/

Ryan Avatar

Whenever I buy makeup (usually in large quantities) I try everything out by doing somthing very… holoweenish. Like I will take lipstick and make polkadots all over my face… and weird things like that. Its so much fun lol!!!

aradhana Avatar

i guess the late night makeup thing is something we addicts must share….

i often won’t do a complete look, sometimes an intricate or very bold lip…or just the eyes, or one eye….my husband thinks i’m completely mad…!

Thincspot Avatar

After I put my makeup on, I check it in three of the four mirrors in my house. Each mirror is in a room with different lighting (yellow, natural, fake daylight). They all show me something different about my makeup application. It gives me a good idea of when I’ve put too much, too little or my colors just don’t go together as well as I thought. Then I adjust what I feel needs to changed in each mirror if necessary.
…and yes, this does mean I take longer to get dressed and drive my poor hubby crazy! But, he’s stuck with me so, YAY!

kcrystal Avatar

If I do a full face look that im happy with for that day- I will whip out my sketch book and write down all products used and swatches also including outfit and accessories worn. This helps me with outfit and makeup selection, as i don’t like to think too hard what makeup goes with what outfit.
It really is a handy reference and quite invaluable to me.

nicci Avatar

I sometimes do the same thing too Christine. I’ll also put on gloss or lipstick before I sleep…not sure why.

When I put my make-up on in the mornings, I like to have either music or the tv on just for background noise.

When I first met my boyfriend, I didn’t want to put make-up on in front of him. I don’t put much on but it made me feel uncomfortable. But 6 yrs later, I don’t care if he watches! 🙂

Jacquelyn Avatar

My weirdest beauty ritual is that I too put on makeup late at night when I’m not going anywhere and I even leave it on in case I do a FOTD. I love trying out new looks of what I can do on occassions.

Alice Avatar

Sometimes, I put perfume on before going to bed. I once heard that Marilyn Monroe used to sleep in nothing but “insert name of perfume here” and ever since then, I do it every so often. It feels glamourous and feminine somehow, even if I’m just wearing a t-shirt lol.

I also use 4 different face primer before putting on makeup. A little bit of each to make one application =)

Sophie Avatar

My weirdest beauty ritual is that before I start applying my make-up I’ll turn on music that I feel like matches with the sort of look I’m doing. I don’t know, I guess I feel like it kind of pumps me up haha. Also, I can’t start applying my make-up unless I’ve pulled my hair back completely- no wispies or anything!!- and put a band-aid over my nose rings. When I first got them pierced I put on the band-aid to ensure that I wouldn’t get any product on them during the healing process and I’ve just never stopped.

Roxanne Avatar

I can NOT do makeup in silence. I either have the radio on (I have a Dewalt water resistant industrial radio in my bathroom lol!), or have youtube up on my laptop to watch some really bad tv like Maury or Paranormal State. Oh, I always wait for the steam to clear before I bring my laptop in.

I really only do the laptop thing on weekends. If I did it on school days, I’d NEVER get ready in time. Sometimes I put on musicals too, and it takes me forever to get ready because I’m singing along!

badmakeupgirl Avatar

It`s so neurotic, but my perfume has to match my outfit. I have three that are in rotation right now: Fresh Sugar Lychee, Fresh Sugar Lemon, and Cake’s Satin Sugar. I use the two Fresh perfumes with “cool colour” looks, and the Cake one with “warm colour” looks. Sugar Lychee is only ok with clothes that are blue, purple, or pink. Sugar Lemon is only ok with yellow, orange, green or black. Satin Sugar is only ok with red, orange, or brown/beige. Luckily, I can wear any of them with black, white, or grey, otherwise I`d never get to pick what I wanted to smell like!

Also, my underwear has to match my outfit, and so do my socks. I`m so unhappy otherwise.

And I totally do the new looks at night thing. I only got into makeup after finishing engineering school, so I never really experimented when I was a teenager. It`s expected for teens to have whacky makeup at school, but a totally different story when a 23 year old goes to work with crooked blue sparkly eyeliner! I`ll try a look for a few nights before I venture out in public with it.

Annie Avatar

Hmm, like (almost) everyone else, I too do make-up late at night, haha!
I also always tell myself to only wear looks out that I’ve already tried and approved – yet I somehow always wind up getting creative, trying something new and hoping for the best! Luckily it’s always turned out okay so far – but I’d be really annoyed if something didn’t work out, yet I’d have to leave for school in three seconds.

Cat Avatar

this is a beauty ritual, but its beauty related. the weird thing i do is scare at girls and imagine how i would do their makeup. hahaha

margot Avatar

I do the exact same haha !
And every now and again, if I’m feeling a little down and am alone in my room, I’ll take my favourite red lipstick and apply it. Makes me happy, I guess haha

Lindsay Avatar

I too play with different looks at night before I shower!

Also, I can’t curl both eyes and then put on mascara, I must curl my right eyelashes first and put mascara on that eye, THEN curl my left and put mascara on that eye… I guess I feel like they’ll loose the curl if I dont hurry up and get the product on hahaha

Mandi Avatar

I have recently gone eyemakeup remover crazy…I just keep trying to see which one will do the job better and it has helped me solidify my evening routine. I tried quitting waterproof mascara but I find it packs more of a punch on my eyelashes I dont know why (maybe its thicker??) I put on concealer after my eyeshadow lol then maybe put on more eyeshadow later…it just looks better to me that way. Also I have a crapload of perfumes and soaps for different moods definitely like some others have mentioned! 🙂

Eda Avatar

Oh, when I play with my makeup, during the day or at night, I’ll do each eye differently, just because I’m too lazy to do both the same. Then I’ll take them off and do it again!
