Do you do your hair or makeup first?

Do you do your hair or makeup first? Why? Does it depend on the look/style?

I always do hair first, then makeup, especially if I use any hot tools, so then my face doesn’t feel like it’s melting!

I normally wash an blow-dry my hair at night, before bed, so lazy solution there. However, when I do feel like styling my hair (which is rarer than rare), I generally do my hair before make-up if I’m using hot tools, and after if I’m just putting it in an updo. That way I can skip it if I don’t have enough time.

Definately hair Christine. Face & eye cream are the only products I do put on my face so it can soak in while I do my hair. Then primer & makeup after hair.

I put my hair up in a bun and do my make-up first. I hate it when hair strands get onto my face while I’m doing my make-up, especially when I’m blending out my tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation. Since, I had my hair digitally permed, I don’t really need to do much. 🙂

Makeup! I take a shower before I get ready, so I try to air dry my hair as much as possible before I blow it out 🙂

Agree with those that let their hair air-dry as much as possible while doing makeup! I often don’t even blow dry mine, but makeup is the natural first thing out of the shower for me while my face (and hands!) are still clean. Plus, to me makeup is more important, so if I have to shave off a few minutes of hair time, that’s fine.

I… *ahem*… never do anything with my hair. It’s a lost cause because I bike commute, and it’s going to get messed up anyway. So, yeah… I just do the make-up and touch up my hair after I’m at work / wherever I’m going.

Definitely makeup first. I hate hair in my face when I am trying to put on makeup so I pile it on my head in a clip. I also tend to just dry the roots of my hair and let the rest dry naturally. My hair is fine and poker straight so there really isn’t much to do. A lot of time I wear it up and off my face with hairbands and clips and I do not wash my hair everyday. Isn’t dry shampoo just the best thing ever!

I generally don’t style my curly/wavy hair, but I do straighten my bangs every day, which is the very last step in my morning routine. If I’m putting my hair up I generally do that before putting on makeup because I feel like that affects what makeup I should wear. Sometimes I do it the other way around and decide how to wear my hair depending on my makeup. -shrug-

I just shower at night, let my hair air dry a bit and then go to bed. I have wavy/curly hair and it actually looks really good without any effort. So in the morning I don’t have to worry about my hair and just start applying makeup 😛

I do my make-up first as I wear a wig. Sometimes the style of the piece influences my color selection. A conservative bob usually calls for a softer look.

I do my hair last. I tend to go pretty natural so there’s no heat involved or anything, so I can easily do it after my makeup is done!

Dylan Avatar

I do my hair first because I don’t want wet hair all over my freshly powdered face. also, i want my makeup to last longer so putting it on last will give me an extra half hour of wear time.

Aida Avatar

I’m very low maintenance with my hair, I just wash it, use a leave-in conditionar and let it air dry, so I do that first because I always shower before I put makeup on :D.

Alexis Avatar

Depends. If I’m styling my hair all nice I will do my makeup first so I don’t ruin the curls by clipping my hair out of my face to put on my makeup, but if I’m just straightening my hair or not doing anything that requires special effort I will do my hair first.

I will sound horrible but my way of doing hair is to just brush it. I keep my hair loose and often due to lack of time prefer the ‘bed-hair’ >< I do my make-up often before I even brush my teeth xD So, make-up first and hair then.

I typically wear my hair down, so I do my makeup first while I still have my hair wrapped in the morning so that it is pulled back away from my face. That way, I can get every crevice and corner accurately.

I DO MY MAKEUP FIRT BE IT TAKES LONGER. USUALLY MY HAIR IS IN TWISTS WICH I JUST TAKE DOWN N FLUFF AFTER MY FACE IS DONE

Shower/shampoo, then makeup, then hair. I like my hair to dry as much as possible before I put a blow dryer to it. To prevent sweating, I usually have a fan blowing in my face (which also helps with drying my hair) and AC on in the room.

Celine Avatar

Always do my makeup first because I put my hair out of my face in order to do it, so I wouldn’t want to wreck my hair style. Second, I’m actually not big on hair styling simple because I’m not good at it and I only straighten it.

I’m a nightly shower person, so if I blow-dry my hair, it’s done the night before and when I wake up my hair is ready to go and all that’s needed is make up. If I don’t blow-dry it the night before, then I do my hair first, which involves putting it up in a bun (2 seconds), and then do my make up. 🙂

I used to do hair first (dry/flat iron) then makeup, but recently switched makeup first, and it has saved me soo much time! I keep my hair in a microfiber towel while doing my makeup, and the entire process (blow dry and flat iron) takes me about 1/2 the time it did before!

I normally start with eye makeup first then I blow dry my hair and put hot rollers in. After that I put my false lashes on then the rest of my makeup.

EyeshadowAA Avatar

I have obscenely thick hair and it takes about 30 minutes to blow dry, plus straightening time… so I have to do my hair first. After I blow dry my hair I have to wash my face again because blow drying that long will make any girl sweat like crazy! So, hair first then makeup… but to be honest my hair can go 3-4 days without washing it. If I had to do my hair for an hour everyday I would lose my mind!

Stephanie Avatar

I always do my makeup first. My hair is naturally straight, so even when I don’t have time to do anything to it (not even brush it through), I can always put it in a ponytail and it looks perfectly fine! Since I don’t like getting up early, that’s usually what I end up doing (or I just leave it open)! I actually do my hair the last moment before I go out the door!
