CoverGirl Turquoise Tempest Eye Enhancers Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches

CoverGirl Turquoise Tempest Eyeshadow

CoverGirl Turquoise Tempest Eye Enhancers Eyeshadow ($3.47 for 0.09 oz.) is a muted blue-teal with a semi-matte finish. It has a very subtle shimmer, but it’s hardly noticeable when worn. I found the color was rather like the color in the pan–both had a dusty quality to them–so it didn’t seem in-your-face bright. The color payoff was good initially, but it sheers out very easily, which means it doesn’t apply as well on the lid as it swatches.

It has a tendency to look faded even though it has just been applied if you make an attempt to blend it out on the lid.  The color didn’t fade much over eight hours though there was a bit of fall out, but it was difficult to get true-to-pan color on the lid from the get-go.  The texture was also a little powdery and didn’t always apply evenly.  I found the best results were achieved when you packed on the product and didn’t blend too much–just stick to the edges.

Inglot #372 is more of a true teal in comparison (less blue), while MAC Surf Baby has more green. Milani Teal the Truth is similar but has a very metallic finish.

Not bad-looking in the swatch, but strangely, it looks boring in the pan. Maybe it’s because of the packaging (besides the cheapness and sponge-tip applicator, I HATE blue [and dark green] makeup packaging, even if it’s Dior!).

I totally agree, the packaging doesn’t do it any favours. When I focus on the pan and the swatch, they look ok, but that dark blue Covergirl packaging is something I’ll always associate with cheapness — dusty makeup I looked at when I was in high school.

CoverGirl eyeshadows are the worst! They are so dull and you can never get them to look true to pan unless you layer like crazy or use water and even then, they usually fade. I never buy their eye products anymore because all of the ones I’ve tried are pretty awful. I love their lip products and concealer though.

I agree! I’ve always been disappointed by CG shadows–except for their Queen Latifah collection which is more pigmented for darker skin.

I totally agree with you! I bought a trio last halloween with a pink, green and white, but there was zero pigmentation from any colour. I was so disappointed that there is no way I’d ever buy any eye products from them again.

Stephanie Avatar

Haha I’m pretty sure I have the same trio you’re talking about! It was a bright lime green, a bright pink and a white and each of the colors had zero payoff when I put them on my lid, they were awful! I’ve also had a few other single eyeshadows and one of those “exact eyelight” quads and each and every one of them was awful. If I’m going to buy drugstore eyeshadow, I much prefer Maybelline (their newer line of quads and mineralized colors are great) or Wet n Wild because the shadows are pigmented and easy to work with.

Depends entirely on individual packages. I can say the same about all brands I’ve used, which includes my fave Make Up For Ever shadows. I’ve used CG shadows that were gorgeous and had great pigmentation, some that sucked, and some in-between ones.

I love this color! One of my favorites, it’s not shear at all and lasts all day. Cover girl has great eye shadows (some are actually better quality than higher end brands).

I can see you kind of packed this on Christine! Covergirl does mascaras quite well. I have a couple from them and like them a lot. I don’t buy HE mascaras anymore because Covergirl does the job. Not much luck with much else. Their lipsticks are also very drying for me.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this at the Dollar Tree before for anyone who is interested. Pretty hit or miss though, good luck!

I was really excited to read this post(I’ve been looking for an inexpensive turquoise/teal) then realized that I can’t get Covergirl in the UK 🙁

Maria Avatar

I got this shadow for free with the purchase of a CG Lash Blast mascara… I wasn’t expecting much out of the shadow to begin with, but I wasn’t impressed at all by either product 😐

Megan Avatar

I find Covergirl eyeshadows to be very poor quality. The only trio I’ve ever been impressed with was “Golden Sunset.” That said, I never buy them anymore; too hit or miss.

Thanks for reviewing this–I’m always tempted to purchase when I see it in the aisles but now I know I can pass on it. UD brights has spoiled me.
