China Glaze No Plain Jane Nail Lacquer
Plain or Not, This Jane Could Be Improved
China Glaze No Plain Jane Nail Lacquer ($6.99 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as “lavish lavender-pink.” It’s a red-toned medium-dark purple with darker purple shimmer and a slightly metallic finish. I wasn’t able to see any shift with this one–it’s a shimmery purple but not much else. Oddly enough, I couldn’t think of a dupe! Barielle Passion Pirouette was the only color that came close, but it’s pinker.
No Plain Jane is still noticeably sheer after two coats, and the formula isn’t perfect. It was a bit streaky overall, left a lot of visible brush strokes, and ended up looking patchy in places. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so I didn’t have any problems with the polish pooling along the sides. I typically get a week of wear out of China Glaze’s polishes with minor tip wear but no chipping.

Myeah, doesn’t look as eye-catching as you might think. Bummer 🙁
I actually quite like this colour despite not being overly fond of pastel frosties, but I’m a sucker for purple. Too bad about the colour payoff 🙁
Ewww. I just really don’t like that, frosty, light purple and sheer. I reminds me of the tacky makeup looks my friend and I tried when we were just getting into makeup as tweens.
at least it’s a nice purple..looks nothing like the bottle shots sad 🙁
Im thinking is a rename because im pretty sure i have the same one and is called grape juice and yes the color payoff is not so great, i use it over black nail polish and looks good
This one is actually nice when layered 1 coat over a dark color like black or dark navy. The duochrome finish is more noticeable then. Still some brushstrokes, but quite pretty when layered.
I love this polish actually. Yeah it’s pretty sheer, but I like that it’s not thick and clumpy. I put it over black polish and that helps. I love the color.
As someone named Jane, I’ve always hated the phrase “plain Jane.”
I agree. And it’s a bummer that a polish with our name in it is a disappointing product.
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile as a friend recommended it to me. Your reviews are really awesome, and I love this blog 😀 I think what I love most is that you review drugstore makeup as well as luxury brands. I buy both, but tend to splurge a bit more on eyeshadow 🙂 Anyway, Sally’s Beauty Supply has this nail polish collection on clearance for $3.29 a bottle, so I picked up “Rare and Radiant,” and “Swanky Silk,” as those were the two from the collection with the strongest duochrome. I know “Rare and Radiant,” is a dupe for Chanel’s “Peridot,” but I don’t have that.
I actually really love this color, and I didn’t end up with super noticeable streaks. My issue was that it seemed to have a shorter wear-time compared to the other colors in this collection. Color-wise, though, my nails looked very similar to the bottle. How weird!
