China Glaze Hunger Games Collection - Colours from the Capitol

China Glaze Hunger Games Collection: Colours from the Capital

China Glaze, a division of American International Industries is thrilled to announce that they have partnered with studio powerhouse Lionsgate on a collection of nail polish to debut in conjunction with the March 23, 2012 release of THE HUNGER GAMES.  In keeping with the powerful themes and messages of the story, the collection of nail polish will be inspired exclusively by one of the book’s distinct settings – the Capitol of the nation of Panem. Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes.

The collection of colors, still in development, will be available at specialty beauty retailers beginning on March 1, 2012.  We are expecting more information in January! 🙂

The leaked shade photos that came out before got tossed after the lawsuit 🙁 Shame, the colors were gorgeous and I really liked the concept. Not as fond of the Capitol-inspired collection as I was about the District-inspired collection…just seems off, considering the storyline. But I’ll probably check them out anyway

Kimberly Avatar

I agree with you. A collection inspired by the Capitol of all places goes against the entire concept of the book. They really shouldn’t have changed the colors.

Amanda Avatar

The original colors are still the same, it’s just the names of the colors that have changed. Before they were inspired by the characters, these are inspired by the specialties of each district (Agro = agriculture, Hook & Line = fishing, etc).

Claudia Avatar

All we can do is cross our fingers and hope that SOMEHOW the origional shades that were leaked get to stay! The main reason I read the series is because I found out China Glaze and not OPI were teaming up with Lionsgate. Well that, and because I heard the books were great! I’m so glad I picked them up! Now. lets hope China Glaze does as great a job!

Anne Avatar

:O! I am a absolutely huge Hunger Games fan and nail polish fiend so this is a dream come true! Now I have the movie and nail polishes to look forward too! Like someone else said, if only they made an HP collection!

Tiffany Avatar

So exciting!!! Love that China Glaze is doing this. OPI seems to have somewhat of a monopoly over exciting collections… so it’s nice to have someone else do something major for a change 🙂

Lacey Avatar

As a fan of the book and nail polish (and China Glaze), I love the idea of a Hunger Games collection, but I’m not sure why colors based on the Capitol would be the focus. The Capitol is basically everything that’s wrong with the world of Hunger Games, but I suppose all the flashy imagery makes for more fun nail colors. I’ll still check it out.

Carrie Ann Avatar

Yeah, the Capitol does not represent the good guys in the books, but it is the place where everyone likes to dress ornately, so it makes sense when you think of it that way. No one in the Districts would go out of their way to beautify themselves. I suppose it’s like the MAC Venomous Villains collection. The whole thing was based on Disney villains, but we still wanted those products. 🙂

Joyce Avatar

true, it makes the most sense to base these colors more on the Capitols extravagent ways. I can hardly imagine Katniss walking around with nailpolish while roaming the woods in District 12 😀

Sally Avatar

Regardless of whether these represent the story of the books or not (personally, I think it makes sense if you look at it from the perspective of the Capitol representing vanity and glitz, etc), the colors are absolutely gorgeous, as usual! Can’t wait to try them for myself.

Hillary Avatar

I’m so excited, I can barely contain myself. Smoke and Ashes, Luxe and Lush, Agro….need. I hope they don’t change them! Now…if only I’m able to wait that long…

Stacey Avatar

I do love the colors, and it’s a great collection, however I don’t feel as if it’s necessarily a “capitol” collection persay. The colors seem a bit muted down compared to what the books described of all the colors. I mean just look at how they described Effie and Ceasar, not to mention Katniss’s prep team and how over the top they all were. Don’t get me wrong, I will definitely be buying some of these colors, I just would have liked to see a bit more over the top colors.

Kimberly Avatar

The colors in the collection were originally supposed to be based off of the districts, but the color sheet was leaked. It looks like China Glaze only changed the names and the theme of the collection, but kept the original shades. That would be why it doesn’t quite match up to colors that would be found within the Capitol. I think it made much more sense before they changed the theme, I agree these colors just don’t go along with the Capitol!

OK, never heard of the book but will have to read it; looking at the description of The Capitol and the color names I think Versailles- where one would keep locked cases of ribbon in sophisticated colors much like these with very sophisticated names. Those people were so bored they’d discuss for days how much gray should be allowed in ribbon referred to as “mouse brown”.
Dressing took most of the day, the outfit was conceived almost from scratch as they went- one aristocrat and a staff of specialists- and like Monseiur Nars color and texture and the contrast had to make a statement in a world of people trying to one up each other every day.
Just think of them as this season at The Capitol and they make sense. Especially since I have alternating fingers of black with a coat of something like that last glitter and silver with copies of abstract expressionist forms done in ink and sealed.
One color at a time? At Court? Oh puhhhleeeze! I’m sure the slaves who do nails must be better than that to dress a lady of The Capitol. A coat of Electrify micro glitter over Hook and Line, perhaps two coats, then jewels, or captive tiny life forms, or holes drilled for ribbons to be knotted through… So they flutter when the hand moves. Limited pallets force ideas beyond mere color.

Kim Avatar

The names make perfect sense if you have read the books.

Luxe and Lush – District 1 (Luxury)
Stone Cold – District 2 (Masonry)
Riveting – District 3 (Technology)
Hook and Line – District 4 (Fishing)
Electrify – District 5 (Power)
Fast Track – District 6 (Transportation)
Mahogany Magic – District 7 (Lumber)
Dress Me Up – District 8 (Textiles)
Harvest Moon – District 9 (Grain)
Foie Gras – District 10 (Livestock)
Agro – District 11 (Agriculture)
Smoke and Ashes – District 12 (Mining)

Kikiana Avatar

AH you are so right! I knew there was more to the names and colors than it being simply inspired by the Capitol which seems to go against everything the book is about. Love it can’t wait to get my hands on all of them!

Shaun Avatar

I just finished reading all the books and I couldn’t figure out how the names matched up! Thanks for clarifying, it makes a whole lot more sense now.

HautePJ Avatar

These look awesome. OK, this is kind of a stretch, but Luxe and Lush looks like the nail polish version of the silver/gold combo Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill eyeshadow. And if it looks anything like the eyeshadow, it will be gorgeous! Smoke and Ashes is also calling my name.

Makaegan Avatar

Sooo happy with this! I’m definitely getting at least six, if not nine! Love them and CANNOT wait for the collection and the film in a few months. Thank you, China Glaze, for doing right by this collection.

Sabine Ammann Avatar

Oh I really hope we’ll get them here in Switzerland! Well, first of all I’m hoping that they’re selling well enough that the only shop in Switzerland that carries China Glaze won’t kick them out again.

Rebecca Avatar

I am beyond excited for these, I feel like I havent been this excited for a collection since The Muppets for OPI, but after seeing swatches for that collection I only ended up with about 4 colors 🙁 My hopes are very high for this one though!!! I am hoping all the colors turn out amazing!

gen Avatar

I love the colors, but when I first saw the title I thought the colors would be a lot brighter and more garrish since that is more the Capitals flavor and reputation. I am at the end of the second book right now- it is soooooo good!!! I can’t wait for the movie! I agree with a previous comment, though, where was the Harry Potter line?!?

Hope Avatar

LOVE the Hunger Games, would love these a little more if they were inspired by the Districts instead of the Capitol. As far as the colors go, Smoke and Ashes looks gorgeous.

Sydney H. Avatar

The names correlate with the 12 districts!

Luxe and Lush – District 1 Luxury
Stone Cold – District 2 Masonry
Riveting – District 3 Technology
Hook and Line – District 4 Fishing
Electrify – District 5 Power
Fast Track – District 6 Transportation
Mahogany Magic – District 7 Lumber
Dress Me Up – District 8 Textiles
Harvest Moon – District 9 Grain
Foie Gras – District 10 Livestock
Agro – District 11 Agriculture
Smoke and Ashes – District 12 Mining

Miss J Avatar

Electrify and Luxe and Lush caught my eye the most. Definitely gonna be picking up those two.

And…did anyone else thing of the agro crag things from the old Nickelodeon show Guts? Or am I alone in that, lol?

Christina Avatar

ooohh.. thanks christine!
super excited about “smoke and ashes”, “agro”, “mahogany magic, “luxe and lush”.. and i need to see “hook and line” and “fast track” swatched to know if they are sufficiently different from what i own..

CatherineM Avatar

I havent been impressed by the books at all (I barely finished the first one), but these colors are gorgeous, especially the first two rows.

megan Avatar

These look amazing and now that I understand the names stand for the district I’m even more excited! I hope Smoke and Ashes looks good on my, I gotta represent District 12 and my girl Katniss!!!

Katie Switalski Avatar

Ugh. They seriously dropped the ball on this. They could have done so much and they made this. They’re just using the books popularity and the upcoming movie for profit. none of these are really unique and the shade names are terrible.

Nella Avatar

From someone who is not a plish kinda girl at all…and I mean at all, I want them all except Mahagony Magic. There colors are out of this world!
