Butter London Lovely Jubbly Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

Well, That’s Just Lovely Jubbly!

Butter London Lovely Jubbly Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant magenta nail lacquer flecked with red, blue, and gold micro-particles.” It’s a glittery extravaganza that features magenta, blue, and gold particles. I don’t have an extensive stash of glitter polishes, but I did go through what I could. China Glaze CG in the City is more of a gray-ish purple with not much else going on. Rescue Beauty Lounge Frugalista has magenta glitter, but the other accompanying glitter is silver. Milani Hi-Res was the most similar that I had, but it has a purple base with holographic glitter/shimmer.

It’s a rather opaque glitter, which I was totally keen on, just because layering can be fun, but sometimes you just want one polish and to be done! Swatches show the impact of two coats, which is mostly opaque. Three coats would really cinch it, but I think you can get away with two.  The natural dry down is just a little shiny, but there is some texture due to the glitter content, so a thicker, shiny top coat is a must.  I loved that the texture of this wasn’t at all thick; it didn’t have that almost gel-like consistency of a lot of glitter-filled polishes–it was normal, really. I typically get a full week of wear out of Butter London’s polishes with very minor tip wear.

Now that’s a nail polish that even my boyfriend will notice! Seriously, the other day I was wearing a different shade of pink on each nail and he didn’t even see it. This one you could spot from Mars, though 🙂 And I like it!

Any time a glitter polish is actually opaque in 3 or less coats I automatically give it a “love it” even if I wouldn’t wear it because so many glitters are far too sheer/don’t have enough dang glitter in them!

This color looks so fun. It makes me think of birthday cake sprinkles or fireworks.

KK Avatar

I love this, the colors are so fun! My only gripe about glitter nail polish is that it’s so hard to take off–any tips on how to make that process any easier? I’ve tried pressing a soaked cotton ball over the nail for several minutes but it still doesn’t seem to work. The removal process is the only thing that keeps me from buying glitters anymore.

I find using a really thick base coat, or more specifically Sally Hansen Triple Strong, helps glitters and dark polishes come off easier, and more completely.

I use a lot of glitter polish. I tend to find that my drug store polishes – Sinful, Spoiled and Confetti (3 of my favs) you have to dab on because of the ‘gel-like consistency’, you talk about. I tend to find the department store and a lot of indie glitter polishes you can actually swipe on with a really nice pronounced effect. I guess you get what you pay for? I did buy this one and the first time I swatched it (and lushed over it) I used a black base coat. I don’t think a base coat is needed but I do, just because. I plan on doing a metallic purple and a royal blue base coat with it and perhaps a white.

Very cute! Only every time I look at a glitter nail polish I realize that they look pretty while on the other hand they’re such a pain to remove so I wouldn’t wear them very often anyway.

@ Jordan: I have SH Rockstar Pink and they are similar. The only differeance I will note is SH you need more coats, it’s thicker and it is more of a magenta with thicker glitter. Bonus for SH is the price!!

Beautiful. I will have to check that out! Christine – I don’t think you ever feature OPI nail polish. I’m just curious why.

For me, OPI is the most accessible. I guess that why I’m so happy to read your review of other nail polish brand that I don’t have the luxury of seeing them in person before buying them (eg. China Glaze, Cult).

This was the most horrific nail polish to remove. I cannot imagine using this again. Your swatches look amazing but this polish was just not my cup of tea.

Yes I wanted this for the name, but as some have pointed out it looks much like a SH color. I was kinda underwhelmed by this collection. Additionally, I just pulls out my Rosie Lee to use and the entire bottle had dried up and the brush looked like a sad clubbed foot :(. If I may ask a separate polish question for any one who will field it- how different are Lippmann Across the Universe and Lady Sings the Blues? Thanks a Ton!

18thCenturyFox Avatar

Well the bottle was sealed tight and kept in a dark, cool place..After checking MUA I learned that this has happened to others within * weeks * of using Rosie Lee for the first time. One customer was told by bL that she should “use acetone” to revive it! I have 23 other bL’s and never encountered this problem.

I love this. So, so, SO pretty. But it will be a pass for me because: 1) I’m not keen on the hassles of removing glitter nail varnishes; 2) the foil removal method gives me the willies because ripping apart cotton wool is like nails down a chalk board for me; and 3) I keep hearing/seeing how much Butter London (or, as I call it, London Butter) chips. My mother’s absolute favorite nail varnish is a grey one from them and I’ve never seen it last a day on her without chipping. (I know because I have to then touch up the manicurist’s job).

Kafka Avatar

Yep, it’s never lasted more than one day in mint condition. I don’t quite understand it. It’s not as though she’s out constructing houses or anything! lol Such a short duration has made me really wary of trying the brand, no matter how lovely the colours. I hear the same sorts of things (but worse) about Nails, Inc., too.

18thCenturyFox Avatar

Well I suppose I’ve got your mom beat 😉 my manicures last as long as Mike Holmes would ( if he were manicured and since mentioned building houses) . Many of my manicures last mere *hours* unmolested. No matter the technique, HE polish, base coat, top coat etc… A salon manicure might go two days in pristine condition if I am LUCKY. And to add to my Canadian love fest- I am allover Feist tonight! P.S. I just learned of these KinderEggs you have!

Kafka Avatar

You poor thing! In my mother’s case, it’s *just* London Butter (yes, I know it’s not called that, but it sounds so much better! LOL). Other brands are just normal, so it can’t be a body chemistry thing. In your case, do you think that is the cause? If my nail varnish chipped off after mere hours — no matter WHAT brand or technique I used — I think I would bang my head against the wall. ARGH.

BTW, I’m not Canadian (that’s Wwendyalynne) but I did love Kinder Eggs when I was growing up. Kinder Surprise Eggs were *soooooo* much fun! The FDA needs to get over itself and stop classifying the damn chocolate as illegal! Can you believe they arrested 2 men from bringing a Kinder Egg into the US from Canada??! Ridiculous, if you ask me. *snort*

18thCenturyFox Avatar

Ahhh as my poor benighted English teacher would say I made ASSumptions hur hur hur..:P oh trust I *want* to bang my head against the wall! Today a strange guy noticed my NP and I was all self conscious.. I had only polished the night before and yet it was all worn down. Fortunately I was wearing King Kong and name provided distraction enough! I am jealous of those who grew up in wholesome countries where Kinder Surprise Eggs were not outlawed. I am not being sarcastic in the least. I, too, could not believe the arrests they have made regarding those foil wrapped bits of fun time!

Wow this shade is literally what you see from the bottle.

I can see Lovely Jubbly being the shade of choice for performances. You can see that glitter from the nose bleed section! I love all the purple but it’s not my style. I would feel like a rave pixie sneezed on my nails.

Jenny Avatar

How on earth are Milani Hi-Res and this shade similar? Hi-Res is a purple/lavender holo. This is multicolored glitter. SH’s Xxtreme Wear in Rockstar Pink is a dead on dupe for this. Folks can google it and find the comparison swatches on online, and I’ve seen plenty of other glitters in this similar shade. Save yourself the money for another shade if you want a Butter London.

Christine Avatar

Hi Jenny!

Did you read what I said about it? Because I said exactly what you just did – I said that it was the most similar that *I* knew of: “Milani Hi-Res was the most similar that I had, but it has a purple base with holographic glitter/shimmer.”

I don’t have every polish on hand, which is why I really appreciate it when readers chime in with dupes when I don’t happen to have one based on what I’ve seen, used, and reviewed!

Because Buttercup is my spirit animal, I’ll take the bait. Thank you for being the Authoritative, All Knowing, Nail Polish Guru. You’ve come to Christine’s blog and spoken quite childishly. It is possible to express your opinion without being rude and dismissive. Try a different tack.

I’m quite shocked and happy you replied , LOL .
Your welcome 🙂
I check Temptalia at least twice a day… you do such an amazing job! Even though getting press samples and swatching makeup is fun, I appreciate your dedication and hard work !

Wow–this has got to be the prettiest, most glitter-packed polishes I’ve ever seen. I mean, that is a solid coat of glitter on your nails! But it doesn’t look chunky or goopy, which I like. I also love the color–must definitely check this out! So fun!

Meg Avatar

I have the Sally Hansen Rockstar Pink polish and I’m not a fan. I loved the color when I saw it but it is really thin and runny. Super difficult to get an opaque look.

I immediately thought of Models Own Disco Mix, but with slightly more dimension. On the other hand, I don’t actually own Disco Mix, so I could be wrong. It was just my immediate thought.
