Bobbi Brown Black Violet Long-Wear Cream Shadow
Bobbi Brown Black Violet Long-Wear Cream Shadow
Bobbi Brown Black Violet Long-Wear Cream Shadow ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “deep shimmer eggplant.” It’s a dark, smoky purple with subtle red undertones and purple, burgundy, and gold micro-shimmer. MAC Deceit is darker, browner. Estee Lauder Cyber Lilac is more silver-shimmered, not as red-toned. Urban Decay Rockstar is the closest, but it’s a little darker.
Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow is supposed to be a smooth, easy-to-apply cream eyeshadow that will last all day long without creasing or smearing. The brand recommends using a short brush (like the Cream Shadow Brush) to apply or use fingertips to blend out shade for a sheerer effect.
The texture of Black Violet was a little stiffer than other shades I’ve tried from this range–not that it doesn’t have some creaminess, it’s just a little thin and less creamy. I had some trouble building up the color payoff; it didn’t want to get more than semi-opaque when I tried it on the lid. I still had good wear when I tried this alone; eight hours with no creasing and some fading around the edges when used without a primer, and then very similar results over a primer, just a smidgen less fading.

LOVE This color! I don’t mind if it needs to be built up a lot, I just love Bobbi’s cream shadows and the color is beautiful!
I’m not overly fond of this shade sheered out. It seems to lose it’s ‘purpleness’
It looks pretty in the pot but looks a little too sheer for my liking in the swatch.
Pretty-ful. Must have.
I love this color
I like the subtle shimmer
I agree, I like it in the pot and applied with a heavier hand, but if it’s hard to build up then I won’t go for it. The sheered out version just isn’t enough for my tastes.
It looks kind of muddy…
This looks to me like a gorgeous purple-brown. I love shades like this. Thankfully it’s not limited edition as I’m definitely planning on picking it up later this year. I can see myself using it as a cream shadow under powder eyeshadows, which would give them a nice depth (I’ve got a specific MAC mineralized eyeshadow which I know would look incredible on top of this), as well as a liner with a matte powder shadow smudged over it. I’ve already got some looks using this product in my head haha 🙂
