Hit List: Best Transition Eyeshadow
What’s the Best Transition Eyeshadow that you’ve tried?
Share your pick! And don’t forget to share why/what your coloring is 🙂 Thanks to Jennifer for today’s question!
I’ve been using Makeup Geek’s Barcelona Beach a lot for this purpose on my medium, warm-toned skin!
MAC Omega, MUFE #76, and Inglot M390.
Skin Tone- MAC NC 45 Medium Deep, my favs are Camel by Bobbi brown and MAC’s Cork with the satin finish- LOVE them both.
Thank you for this! 🙂
I’m not sure if BB’s Camel is available anymore. 🙁 If anyone is looking for a similar color, though, try Uninterrupted from MAC. It’s one of the Pro Longwear shadows.
Buck found in UD NAKED 1
Taupe in LORAC PRO 1 🙂
agreed Taupe is good, but Salted caramel from the too faced chocolate bar palette is also awesome
111
Naked is my favourite shade too!
I’ve been using taupe from the lorac pro and UD naked
I’m between an NC15 and NC20 (so fair to light with yellow undertones), and I really love Too Faced Fuzzy Handcuffs from the Boudoir Eyes Palette. It looks fairly neutral in the pan, but when applied and blended on my eyes it turns a bit warmer, which is great underneath smokey shadows.
I love MAC’s Quarry!
My #1 is definitely MAC Texture but I also love MAC Wedge and MAC Uninterupted
As you can see I like a warm/orangish transition shade x
Definitely Urban Decay Laced! <333333 I use it every single day and have 4(!) backups. Love it so, so much!
(Fair, peachy skin, NW15)
Love this one and Limit from the Naked 3 palette too!
Adding on to the Laced and Limit train… I also like Chocolate Milk from Too Faced. It’s really similar to Limit. =)
I also love LACED
I just looked it up and UD Laced looks great, I’ll have to check it out!
I have two! MAC’s Moleskin eye shadow which I think was limited edition but such a good color! and Bobbi Brown’s Taupe matte eye shadow. Both are gorgeous on the crease!
I love moleskin too!
I’ve been wearing Urban Decay’s Naked Basics “Naked 2” shade as a transition. I have a neutral undertone and I’m rather pale. This seems to work for me 🙂
Jenny
Makeup Geek Creme Brûlée or Peach Smoothie
These are my two favorites at the momento too.
My favorite is Ossuary from Detrivore, it’s a matte that’s is nearly perfectly my skintone. I have a bunch of similar shades from Detrivore as well, like Porcelain that’s slightly warmer with a little bit of sparkle, and Autopsy, Malacath, Courtier and Embalm that are all very close to my skin but warmer, darker, or cooler. Her matte formula blends so easily, it’s like you just have to hold the blending brush near the eyeshadow for it to melt into your skin.
I have to check these out. I’ve never heard of the brand before. I love the color names.
Stila Puppy, Too Faced Teddy Bear (I don’t think it’s available any longer – I have it in the Enchanted Glamourland palette), TF Velvet Revolver (ditto) and Sephora’s Malted Milkshake (it’s terrific!). I also like 2 of the mid shades in my new Naked2Basics – they are perfect for this purpose.
My skin tone is light medium olive and my favourites are UD’s Buck and Taupe from Lorac Pro 1.
Very fair/neutral; auburn hair, hazel/green eyes.
I had to look up what a transition color was (laughing at myself).
I usually don’t use one. I just blend my crease shade out, put on my brow bone/highlighter, and blend that slightly into the fade of the crease color.. If I need a transition color, it’s usually WOS from the Naked Basics palette.
Naked 2 from Naked Basics or Buck from Naked 1.
Fair, nw15ish
I really like Mac malt, UD laced, Laura Mercier cashmere, Sigma passion fruit, UD naked, and UD tease.
Mauve from Lorac Pro Palette1, MAC Haux and Urban Decay Tease.
Lately, I’ve been using the second lightest matte shade in Coastal Scents’ Revealed 2 palette. It’s mauvey so it gives a nice hint of colour when I’m doing a more neutral look for work.
yes! I was going to say this too!!! I always used brown/taupey transition colors before I got the coastal scents revealed 2 palette. But the muted pinky mauve you’re talking about is super flattering and just a bit different! 🙂
I’m medium with very yellow undertones and the best transition shade for me was MAC Tete a Tint. It was the right amount of definition when I didn’t want a warm taupe shade. Unfortunately, it’s discontinued but I know Makeup Geek has a close dupe.
I love using Lorac Sable from the Pro Palette and Too Faced Milk Chocolate from the Chocolate Bar palette
Stila Puppy. I’ve actually hit pan!!
Skin: Deek/ Dark NW47
It’s a tie between Makeup Geek’s Cocoa Bear and MAC Brown Script.
Makeup geek cocoa bear
Skintone-deep NW48
MAC Kid
For my NC20ish skin, I love UD Naked (for a warm look) and UD Naked 2 (for a cool look)! There are others, but those are the ones I I’m oh so close to hitting pan, nooo!
I’m cool-toned, fairly light skinned gal (MAC NC20), so I really appreciate Urban Decay Naked as a great neutral, cooler-toned transition shade. I recently re-discovered a great brow bone and/or blending eyeshadow that almost exactly matches my skin tone: Paula Dorf eyeshadow in Sea Shell.
Maybelline ‘Earthly Taupe’ is the perfect transition shade for my fair, neutral skin tone. I love this one because it isn’t uber pigmented, but just enough so to give me a natural shadow.
I really like limit in Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and Mac’s soft brown to transition.
I am light neutral and I am wearing some Face Stockholm matte shadows– in greyed green, pale lavender, and light greyed beige. I am not recognizing them from the shades on their website right now– even though I got them recently. I also got the new Shue Uemura green palette and I am using those over the neutrals to give the look some pizazz.
MAC Cork and Omega.
I love MAC’s Malt and Quarry. Also in their 15 eyeshadow palette (the cool tone), it’s called Cozy Grey, I think, and it’s a matte shade. I think it works out very well for a soft grey look. It’s a mix between grey, taupe and a hint of nude; it’s definitely something different than a traditional nude transition shade.
theBalm’s Sultry eyeshadow from the Nude ‘Tude palette! It’s the perfect shade for my light/medium, yellow-toned skin.
NYX Maybe Later or Blame It On Midnight! I was looking for a shade similar to Taupe from the Lorac Pro palette and I’m really enjoying both. (I’m a MAC NC20/MUFE 117).
Good old MAC soft brown…(I’m Nars Sheerglow Stromboli) I’vew tried the Inglot matte shadow that are similar, but they just aren’t the same quality as MAC soft brown imo
Too Faced Salted Caramel, Coastal Scents Oatmeal Tan
I’m Fair, with both yellow and pink undertones, but UD’s Walk of Shame (very light nude matte) from the Naked Basics palette is one of the *BEST* matte eyeshadows for me!!!
NC20ish. MUG Peach Smoothie, MUG Creme Brulee, MAC Soft Brown, or LORAC Taupe. Peach Smoothie since it is similar to my skin tone in depth helps to give an even softer more blown out look to my shadow. I use Taupe as a transition when I want something less warm than Soft Brown or Creme Brulee.
I like MAC Soba, MAC Soft Brown and the darkest matte shade from the Coastal Scents Revealed palette! I’m NC 37-40 for reference.
Cork, Soft Brown, Bamboo
Urban Decay’s Naked. It works so well for me. I have tried many others, but Naked has worked the best for me hands down.
Mac Wedge and Buck from Naked palette.
Hands down, MAC Swiss Chocolate! It’s the best transition color for my NC 47-/50 skin and I’ve been using it for years.
I’m a NC42 in Mac. And my favorite transition color would have to be brown script, soft brown, texture. It makes like so much easier, beautiful beautiful transition colors.
I’m NC50 medium dark with yellow undertones. I love transition shades and I have a lot of favorites! My favorite is a combo of Mac’s Texture and Cork. I also love UD Buck, Mac’s Saddle, Mac’s Uninterrupted and Bobbi Brown’s Camel eyeshadow.
MAC Free To Be – coral is a surprisingly wearable and beautiful transition color! I also love Too Faced Milk Chocolate for a matte medium brown. Always works! 🙂
I agree with you about coral being a striking crease/transition color! I like “Nectar” from the Lorac Pro 2 Palette!
Yes! 😀 Nectar was the #1 reason the Lorac Pro 2 is on my wish list, lol!
MAC NW15-20 (cool/pink fair/light)
Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow Single 83 Slate is my go-to.
I also like Urban Decay Naked 2 from the Naked Basics Palette.
I use Coastal Scents harvest brown all the time!!!
Urban Decay’s Naked is perfect for me! It’s just dark enough to add a bit of dimension and makes blending out darker shadows a breeze!
NARS Edie, or something similar. I like the option of layering deeper crease shades. Lately, however, I’ve been experimenting with MAC Next To Skin blush, and it works quite well, as well as NYX Taupe blush.
either naked2 from naked basics palette or my body shop honey bronzer #04
Lorac Pro1 Mauve, Lorac Pro2 Nectar, Amrezy palette Carmel or Morocco, and lately I have been digging Milani Bella Eyes in Mandarin. I tend to like warm shades especially as a foil to cool, smokey looks.
I’d say either Urban Decay Buck or MAC Texture. I have medium toned olive skin. Sometimes I might swyich it up with MAC Soft Brown, but it depends.
I have fair skin and reach for MAC’s Wedge the most. It just seems to go with most things.
MAC Malt and UDLimit from Naked 3
Ooh.. I don’t really! I think I might have to scour this comment section for suggestions for transition shades for vampires…. 😀
Are you a warm toned vampire or a cool toned vampire? Haha, I find that undertones are particularly important for transition shades. If I blend with a warm shade than I end of looking sickly and sallow!
Hi Sophia! I’m cool-neutral (also known as ‘transparent’) – do you have any tips? 😀 I tend to find really warm shades look really jaundiced on me too!
NC45 skin: Mac Soft Brown. I also use Wedge if I’m doing a cool toned eye.
I would have to say MAC Texture.
My favorites are Taupe and Mauve from Lorac Pro I and Nectar from Lorac Pro II.
Forgot to mention that I’m NC15/20 depending on the product and time of year
My all-time favorite is Limit from UDNaked 3, but I also love Nooner from the same palette as well.
Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie, MAC Soft Brown, and Limit from Naked3 – I’ve hit pan on Limit. They need to make it a single!!
NYX’s Nude Matte Eyeshadow in Maybe Later. Perfect for my light-medium tan skin with yellow undertones.
I actually use the MAC blush Taupe Shape as a transition shade – it’s a cooler toned brown that isn’t too warm for pink vampires (NW13) like myself.
Bella Cappuccino from Milani. Absolutely subtle with a gorgeous satin matte finish.
I have very light, neutral skin, and I love the matte colors from the Naked 2 and 3 palettes, but they’re very cool and very warm respectively. Lately I’ve been reaching for Nyx Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Happy Hour. It’s a neutral, matte, medium brown and even if I don’t use it in my eye look, I often use just a touch to set my cream contour.
Urban Decay Naked, MAC Bamboo, MUG Peach Smoothie. I’m NC 15, fair red head btw.
Mac Pro Eyeshadow – Uninterrupted
