I’ve been loving Tarte’s Tape Shape a lot, which runs just a smidgen lighter than ideal, but I hope they expand the shade range! I also love Cle de Peau Concealer and IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye.

No concealer at all, to be honest. Yes, concealer does hide circles a bit but after a few hours I think it makes me under eye area look worse, overall. My skin looks the youngest and healthiest when I don’t use anything under my eyes at all.
None. I find strategic corrector application works better topped with a light dusting of Hourglass Diffused (the pale yellow one) to set. I have significant discoloration and deep troughs. Concealer makes it all look great for the first few hours and then it all goes south and winds up looking so much worse.

Hi Tammy 🙂 I actually find the MAC Studio Conceal and Correct (I wear the Light palette) has better coverage and durability than many others. It has 6 smaller pans in a palette; 4 concealer shades and 2 corrector shades. I use the bottom two yellow (left) and peach (right) corrector shades. My eye issues are health related but also hereditary and I have some shadows which respond better to peach and others that respond better to yellow. I use a flat split duo fibre to apply really light layers and set with the Hourglass powder. Texture is everything though, right?.. I do not use the concealer shades, they are too emollient for non-undereye skin and pull off and oil up. I prefer MUFE Full cover for that task. I think you can buy the MAC correctors in separate pro pans, but I liked the convenience of the small kit and initially thought the concealer shades might work too.
Amazing concealer is the only thing I have tried that has decent coverage that doesn’t dry out my under eye and make wrinkles worse. I still need to try Shape Tape, but ulta and tarte are out of my shade 🙁
No concealer. No matter which brand I have tried, they all go on looking wonderfully, but eventually settle in the fine lines making me look much older than when I go without concealer. This is a situation of when less is more. The same with primer. For my skin type, a rich moisturizer is the best primer.
My current favorite is Maybelline Age Rewind, which is phenomenal, but I’m still looking for “the one.” I have creases under my eye (not yet wrinkles) because of my eye shape, so even the Maybelline, which I love, will still collect and crease and make me look wrinkly. I’m looking for some kind of thin, light formula, maybe even a serum-y formula. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears!
Have you tried the bareMinerals bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer, Kat? I’ve heard really great things about it – it’s definitely on my short list of concealers to try!
I have tried it too, and it is truly amazing. I wish everyone realized what a great concealer it is and for the money you pay, you can’t beat it!
Lately I’ve been using a combo of Becca undereye brightener and EL concealer, and this is the happiest I have been in a long time.
I know people like the Amazing Concealer, but I do not. I’ve been so very displeased with it, I’m glad to have an alternative. I have at least 3/4 of a tube left, which could last someone a year. It’s looking for a good home.
I’ve had great luck with the EL concealer, too. First time I’ve been happy in a long, long time. It’s creamy and doesn’t settle into lines. I apply it with a BB.
I really have to try that new Tarte one – so many people really seem to like it. My go-to/reliable faves (in no particular order) are UD Naked, Clarins (the one in the little squeeze tube), IT Bye Bye Undereye and Cargo Blu Ray. I also really like the newer one from MUFE but I’m still struggling with finding the best colour for me (I’ve got one that is a bit too yellow and another that is a bit too red which seems silly since they are organized by Y(ellow) and R(ed) undertones.
I just have to chime in here and say the Hourglass Hidden concealer is the best thing my undereyes have ever been covered with. It doesn’t crease, sets easily, and just works…no darkness peeks out at all.
I have been loving the Becca under eye primer then topped with tarte shape tape. That is my current go to. I also love NARS radiant creamy concealer and the UD Naked too.
YSL Touche Éclat works like a charm for me — when I’m even a little bit tired, the areas around inner eye/alongside bridge of nose get quite dark to point of even looking bruised.
I have a few favourites as my skin colour goes from neutral NC20 in the winter to yellow NC30 in the summer. Most lines can only match me at one stage but to pick just one it would be MAC Prolongwear. I still have to use a peach corrector to cover the hereditary dark circles. Currently I am using Armani orange and really like the results.
I have a few favorites, but my all time favorite is BY TERRY Terrybly Densiliss Concealer. It is anti-wrinkle and perfect for dark circles. This corrective serum visibly rejuvenates the skin by taking action on all the signs of ageing and fatigue. It is perfect for mature skin as it is light, doesn’t crease or look cakey. It is the only one that I require a back-up. I use 1 Fresh Fair: Very light beige for fair to light skin with neutral undertones…this is slightly pinky for the darkest of circles.
I don’t use undereye concealer very often. When I do, it’s just to help correct dark circles from lack of sleep or illness. For me, e.l.f. HD Concealer in Brightening works best for this: The color corrects the darkness and it dries down completely, so I don’t need to set it with powder. Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Lemon Drop actually also works really well for concealing dark undereye circles.
No concealer because I have oily eyes and then it makes my under the eye eyeliner smudgey too.
I have really dark circles and have tried everything out there and the only thing I’ve found that covers them is MAC Prolongwear concealer. I use the NW25 and it covers completely and last for hours. I put a lightweight eye cream on underneath it and I finish my whole face with UD setting spray.
I use a very similar combination. MAC prolongwear applied with a light hand. It never creases, doesn’t need setting powder and lasts all day for me.
Glossier’s Stretch Concealer. It has the most incredible melty undetectable texture that looks like skin and doesn’t creep into fine lines. It offers medium coverage, not full, but I when I completely erase my undereye circles it can make me look weird. Having a slight bit of shadow keeps my makeup looking natural and my overall look youthful and fresh. It is is by far the best concealer I’ve ever used on my eye area. The shade “Light” is very brightening and a fantastic match for my NC15 skin tone.
I have fallen for Nyx Gotcha Covered Waterproof Concealer in Medium Olive, which I had originally purchased for spot concealing for red patches near my nose and chin. But having tried It Cosmetics Bye-Bye Undereye in Neutral Medium and really did love how it looked in the mirror, it looked HORRID in pics! The peach flashback I was getting made it appear that I obviously didn’t know how to blend my concealer in. It sits unused as a result. Tried my Nyx one out of sheer desperation, and it is perfect!
MAC’s Prep and Prime Radiant Rose, topped by a highlighter, or ELF’s under eye setting powder. I’ve never found the perfect concealer, but I do not like them to be too thick in consistency.
I’m not even sure anymore. I think the only thing that will work for me is filler. I have deep TT’s and very translucent skin. Putting concealer on usually makes it look worse. I either need a corrector and something light reflecting or just my foundation to correct any redness. I kind of feel that the french have it right about under eye bags/circles, leave it be or if it bothers you wear deeply smudged in makeup so no one can tell.
When I do wear it these days it’s a very sparing application of NARS RCC in Chantilly though Vanilla would be better for my circle color to work more as a 2 in 1 product. I just keep forgetting to buy it.
My favorites are Cle de Peau for concealing and Chantecaille Le Camoflage to brighten or if I just want to have add some light under my eyes. I’m lucky to not need a lot of under eye coverage. Just a bit of brightness fortunately.
Hands down the best for me is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser. I’ve had dark circles my whole life and this is the only thing that covers without caking up. I moisturize well and then dab this on. I use the Neutralizer shade which is a pale yellow and then top it with IT CC cream to blend it with my foundation. I also use it as an eyelid primer under my eyeshadow.
C’mon, you guys. More comments and suggestions, please. Thank god I wear glasses. Had circles since 4th grade, by memory. As a youth, my skin was quite transparent and cool, with bluish circles. Now, my skin is more coarse and slightly warmer. Aging makes the circles more prominent. For minimal, just the FAB triple duty and Paula long name TM. Corrector, if doing any real makeup, is Eve Pearl light-med salmon. Other add-ons: smashbox concealer primer, cover fx concealer, Pmed. It bye bye in lt med looked like gray slip clay. Kvd, tf, old NARS radiant were all too yellow. Amazing, not so much. The NARS shade expansion that is cooler may be worth the try. Prob will try the Becca corrector; like the brightening. As to the shape tape, it went on way too yellow, but the dry down was much more red. Sounds like it might oxidize, so give it a time test. Thanks for the tips. Will look into the Terry, EL, maybe Mac, though my existing macs, don’t like much.
Tarte shape tape and Lamer radiant concealer work well for me, for the under eyes at the moment.
I was loving Lancome’s waterproof (it really is) long lasting undereye concealer for a long time….and then I tried Cover FX Cream Concealer in the tube, which I really fell in love with for my eye area, as well as for ‘highlighting’ my nasal labial lines & around my mouth. The tiniest bit goes a long way & never creases on me (set properly, of course). After setting, I dust a little bit of Cover FX Illuminating Setting Powder in Light around my eyes, which brings some life back to the skin, rather than having that flat, matte, dead-skin look which makes every line in that area stand out even more.
For occasional spot concealing, I use a completely different product (MUF Full Cover), but I’ve found Cover FX cream concealer paired with their Illuminating Setting Powder used more like a finishing powder is a spectacular combination for concealing around the eyes.
christine, you had asked in another post on our makeup quirks, if any. i think this qualifies…
it seems i’m the only one thus far who uses laura mercier’s secret camouflage to conceal dark circles. it’s not marketed for that as it’s not creamy enough; only its wear time and blendability is extolled much by other MUA such as Lisa Eldrige. otherwise, most other users find it too dry to be useful.
i’ve had mine (sc-2 for nc20 complexion) for about 6 mths now, and apply it with the zoeva concealer buffer brush to ny undereye areas. it works wonderful for me. the concealer neither creases nor migrates and it lasts the whole day. doesnt feel dry either. for those who didn’t find joy with this dual-sided compact, perhaps the key lies in the tools used to apply it. do give it another try!
I don’t need much but the best for me is the salmon color in the Stila color concealer compact containining multiple creams and two powders. I apply very lightly.
Generally I don’t use or need concealer at all. If I have to, I have a Chanel one that I bought a few years ago (probably past its use by date) and that’s fine. It’s half a shade lighter than my normal foundation and it works.
Of the ones I’ve tried, probably the Urban Decay one. I have dry skin so my main issue is creasing, so thick concealers are no bueno for under-eye areas. If need be I’ll use a color corrector underneath if I’m feeling and thus looking particularly poorly, but usually not.
I do love the Tarte Shape Tape concealer SO much! I also love Bare Minerals Complete Coverage Serum concealer and Maybelline Better Skin concealer. But I find that Shape Tape works better with foundation, generally, and the Serum Concealer and Better Skin Concealer work better when I wear BB creams. Overall tho, I just have to be content with know that nothing is ever going to completely cover my dark circles and not crease or look cakey after a few hours. That’s just the way my skin is. That said, these are the best of the bunch I’ve tried.
