Hit List: Best Products for Watery Eyes

What’s the Best Products for Watery Eyes that you’ve tried?

Share your pick!  And don’t forget to share why 🙂 Thanks to Astrild for today’s question!

Marc Jacobs Beauty eyeliners are really, really budge-proof and long-wearing, even when my eyes water, they do not move at all! NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base helps to keep everything locked down and can take wateriness without ruining everything (at least for a couple of hours!).

I find their standard liners way too hard to work with. The only way I’ve managed to make them even remotely soft enough to work with is to heat them with a lighter first to create a makeshift gel liner, but even then the payoff is so-so.

My eyes only water when I put on an eye creme before makeup. The best anti-aging eye cream that I’ve found that doesn’t burn, tingle, or make my eyes water is by Acure Organics.

Actually, I have quite sensitive skin, and all their skin care and skin oils/serums don’t bother me at all, and have a calming sensation. I love their products. All organic and super affordable, and usually you can google a coupon. Read up about that company, they are doing great things! 🙂

Jenny

I would first find out what’s causing my eyes to water, particularly if the condition is chronic. If wearing specific products are the problem, I’d find alternatives; however, if I couldn’t pinpoint exact products/ingredients, I’d forgo eye makeup altogether. If it’s something environmental, I’d try antihistamines.

Now, for the occasional watering, I love UD 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. It doesn’t budge, flake, or smear; it also holds up in humidity & a hot day at Disneyland! I don’t care for the brush, but the formula is sooo amazing, I’m willing to put in the extra effort. Kat von D eyeshadow primer is also amazing, and holds up as well as the UD liner. I’ve “road tested” both at Disneyland, including several runs on Splash Mountain, and spending 12+ hours in the park, only touching up my base makeup/sunscreen. Essence Long Lasting eye pencil is the only liner that lasts several hours on my waterline, and is only $3.

On days my eyes are particularly sensitive, I forgo mascara altogether, although if I really need something, I’ll use a clear mascara.

I have chronic dry eye but I love to do my eyes, what I really wish is that a cosmetic company would come out with not only a waterproof formula, but one that salt can not cut thru since tears contain salt, I think that is what destroys our eye makeup. With me I noticed that the more I stay out of sunlight, the better for my eyes (like a Vampire), so I opted to work nights and my eyes don’t water, crazy as that sounds.

For mascara, I’d say cover girl lash blast waterproof. I don’t have particularly watery eyes, but even tears and rubbing won’t get this stuff off. I usually have to use a cotton pad soaked in eye makeup remover, then oil cleanser, then more eye makeup remover. It’s the only mascara I can wear while working out (Yes, I wear mascara to work out – Otherwise I’m naked! But only mascara.) Whether it makes other people’s eyes water to begin with, I don’t know.

This is a great question because my eyes are very sensitive and water easily. I’d love a recommendation for a product to tightline upper eyelids that won’t run, or transfer to lower waterline. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Tips and techniques too! 🙂

This past month, I’ve had A LOT of trouble with my eyes watering. I don’t know if it’s the Shadow Insurance that does it (I use it under the eye, too!) or if I’m just incredibly lucky, but my eye makeup remains perfectly intact all day regardless of the tearing. HOWEVER, my setting powder and blush will get streaks through them if I don’t catch a tear before it runs! UGH!!

Well I use hard contact lenses and my eyes often water upon air, dust, anything so I always wear waterproof products. The ones that work better for me are for lids MAC paintpots, or similar cream eyeshadows like Maybelline tattoo, Sephora velvet eyeshador, MAC pro longwear eyeliners, powerpoint pencil, pearlglide eyeliner, Sephora retractable waterproof eyeliners and waterproof Jumbo liners; from UD the 24/7 pencils work like a charm as well. For mascara, MAC false lashes waterproof, Maybelline the Rocket waterproof. Sometimes I use benefit They’re real but if my eyes water a lot, the tip of the lashes breaks and leaves black dust behind. however it doesnt run, smudge or stain my skin.

UD Perversion works really well. I have sensitive eyes that react badly to allergens, so I use Almay, Physicians Formula, and mineral makeup a lot to help with that.

Sylirael Avatar

UD liners are pretty good for me (the mattes are slightly better than the shimmers for staying power), but I recently discovered that the Laura Mercier caviar stick I got recently (Amethyst) WEARS LIKE IRON on the lids and lashlines. Seriously, that stuff was *perfect* after a whole day of wear and two sweaty hours of ballet. Phenomenal, really…

I have really bad chronic dry eye, so they will water if I’m too clumsy with a liner pencil or mascara wand. I haven’t actually found a good waterproof liner yet. I always set eyeliner with a similar colored eyeshadow and that helps it last longer than if I don’t, but it also makes my eyes burn more. 🙁

As for mascara, I usually will not buy waterproof but will instead use the Anastasia Lash Genius top coat. I love that stuff! I forgot to use it one day and had awful mascara tears when I used my eye drops so it made me realize that it really does work.

I do apologize for posting this on this thread, but I couldn’t figure out where else to ask the question and it’s my first day on temptalia (what a wonderful site!)
Can anyone help me identify a lipstick like the one that this lady is wearing in these pictures? And please forgive the trash website the pictures come from– I just did a google search to find the lipstick color and this showed up, but it shows the lipstick well, so…
Thanks in advance! You ladies seem to know way too much about makeup! 🙂

Sometimes I have watery eyes – but that’s not a problem. The problem is that these liners end
up on my contact lenses – it’s awful : ( This has only begun to happen a few months ago.

Kristen Avatar

I have the same problem! The only liner that won’t get on my contacts, if I’m careful is Bobbi Brown gel – but I don’t put it on my waterline (tightline from above on upper lash line). And I have to do it before putting my contacts in, and let it dry.

Hmm…KVD Tattoo Liner works well. As for pencil, the Tarte Skinny Smoulder Eyes (at least the black) stays on my waterline like nothing else (and I’ve tried all the “iconic ones). For mascara, L’Oreal Lash Out Butterfly Waterproof.

I’m using Laura Mercier Longwear Eye Pencil on the lower waterline at the moment and it’s been great. I probably get 5-7 hours wear, which is so much better than any other products I’ve tried, even waterproofs. I am also very partial to a winged cat eye (read everyday look) but I’ve had huge problems with pen and gel liners in particular (NARS, Bobbi Brown, etc) – I’d put it on, set it, leave the house and by the time I got to work it had run or smudged, whatever the weather. After spending LOTS of money on many different high end products looking for the holy grail with no luck, one day I spotted Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Liner at the back of my drawer when I couldn’t find my usual one (I think I was using Benefit Magic Ink at the time, which is also pretty good!) and decided to give it a go, and hey presto! It’s become my go to liquid liner now! It’s REALLY cheap (just over £5 in the UK) and it will not budge. They do a waterproof version now as well which I need to get my hands on, but still, the standard one is good enough. And if you don’t like the pen style applicator, the neck is wide enough to dip a fine brush into.

Lately it’s definitely the Marc Jacobs eyeliners that are performing the most on my waterline. Before that I use to use MUFE waterproof crayon. It stays put but it’s a bit drier and harder than MJ and doesn’t glide as easy. Sadly the UD 24/7 have never performed well on me.

I’m lucky not to have watery or teary eyes but getting things to last on the waterline has always been a challenge. So far, the most amazing for that has been the IT Cosmetics gel liner in the pot. I have a small Marc Jacobs liner – I’ll have to give it a try. For keeping things in place, generally, I also find UDPP does the trick every time. BTW, am I the ONLY one who misses the old bottles? Not so much the shape (that “genie bottle” shape was ridiculous and made for all that waste that women went to such lengths to try to get at) but having the doe foot applicator? I much prefer a doe foot to a squeeze tube.

Jennifer Avatar

I’m allergic to everything so I have watery eyes a lot. When they’re bad I’ll just put on NYX wonderpencil on my water line and nothing else. It doesn’t last all day, but it usually doesn’t give up the ghost until my eyes have calmed down and they’re not as red anyway. With already irritated eyes I definitely wouldn’t experiment with products.

For mascara, nothing beats the “tubing” type such as Blinc or Clinique. I only wear eyeliner on my upper lashline and Stila smudge stick seems to work for that.

Helene Avatar

I sometime get watery eyes, or really it’s only one eye at a time, and it can be either inner or outer corner of that eye. Today I managed to tear away Benefit They’re real Pushup Eyeliner.
The one that’s worked the best is Laura Mercier’s Gel liner. I went 24+ hours with it and it looked as good as new.
Some good suggestions here, thanks to all, and a very good question!

Lately I’ve been wearing Inglot AMC Gel Liner, numbers 77 and 78. One is matte black and the other is a glossy black. It do tightlining, and these liners stay on ALL day. A little goes a long way, so don’t load up your brush too much when starting out.

For mascara, I think I’ve found my HG: Clinique Lash Power Long-Lasting Mascara. I love the tiny brush, and the mascara goes on kind of glossy, but dries down quickly and does not smudge at all. It takes a little more effort to remove it at night, so I use Sens’Eyes Makeup Remover or Clean and Clear Makeup Dissolving Wipes to make sure it all comes off.

I’m fine with most liquid liners lasting with no problem on my lid, but the waterline is a different story. I’ve tried so many and none have held up unfortunately. Palladio herbal precision eyeliners last a really long time on my waterline top and bottom! It’s amazing because I have such crazy watery and allergy red eyes. I heard about this eyeliner from nouveacheap’s blog! It sounds like I need to try the Marc Jacobs one!

L Avatar

I usually use liquid eyeliner for my top lashline and most drugstore brands work. Not pencils though – i’ve tried UD, MUFE, PF, palladio. Nothing wears on my waterline. Currently, I go with ettusias which smudges the least of them all.
