Benefit Take a Picture, It'll Last Longer Body Balm
Benefit Take a Picture It Lasts Longer Body Balm
When Barely There Isn’t Even There…
Benefit Bathina Take a Picture, It Lasts Longer Body Balm ($25.00 for 1.5 oz.) is a lightly floral-scented shimmering body balm. It purports to give a “shimmering, glimmering… seductive golden-pink sheen.” This is a very, very subtle product; I can’t even emphasize just how subtle and sheer and light the sheen is. I took photos of the “swatch,” but it looked like nothing was there. With a little light, I can see that there is a subtle sheen, but I don’t know of “shimmering, glimmering” is an appropriate description. It’s more glowy than shimmery, more sheen than glimmer.
Described as a “balm,” it doesn’t do much to hydrate or keep skin from losing moisture. It does as much for my skin as any highlighter would do (like a pressed one). It’s not thick or greasy, which is nice, but it’s a little time consuming to apply regardless of whether you forego the velvet pillow or not. I think ultimately this is a product that takes the concept of subtle to a whole new level, and I don’t think it’s supposed to be as sheer as it is. I wasn’t expecting big hunks of shimmer at all, but if I have to squint and flail my arms in the sunlight to see if it’s there, I think there’s a problem!
I did really like the scent–it’s kind of like this very subtle, rosy floral that almost reminds me of baby shampoo (but rosier, obviously). I like it, and I don’t find it strong, though it does linger, which is a plus–assuming you like the scent, of course! The packaging is cute and totally Benefit, and the metal tin makes it pretty durable. The little velvet pillow applicator is a cute touch, which I imagine is supposed to make it a more luxurious experience. Nice if you’re just applying to decolletage, but if you’re doing legs, a bit more tedious.
Honestly, when it comes to giving the body a soft, shimmering glow, Benefit’s Kitten does an infinitely better job.

Wow, that’s pretty expensive for not very much product, huh? I mean, yeah it’s cute and quirky and all but $25US for not even 50 grams?!
I really want to love Benefit but when 9 times out of 10 the packaging is actually better then the product, well, it makes it hard to justify to myself… And I know people have slagged off TheBalm for being Benefit copycats but at least their product is good! (e/s and blush anyway, that’s all I’ve tried).
I’ll stick with my amazing $4NZD for 200mL Mades Cosmetics body souffle creams from a pharmacy outlet store…
Yeah, and since this doesn’t moisturize… a body moisturizer with shimmer in it is wayyy faster!
Sooo… it doesn’t moisturize and it doesn’t really shimmer either… what does it do then?! I hope it smells really, really good!
(I LOL’ed at “squint & flail” too BTW, hee!)
Exactly, LOL! It’s like… well… kind of a sheen? Maybe? If I’m in the sunlight…
I would agree that flailing should not be necessary! I may just look for Kitten.
Darn… it looks so cute…. but again, most Benefit products are all about the packaging…
Call me a sucka but I’m still going to get it just for the packaging!
i’ve had kitten for about 8 years… the same box/pouf and there is still product in it… of course i don’t use it often and you really don’t need much of it, but i love it. love the smell, and the light sheen it gives… definitely a beautiful glow! would highly recommend kitten…..
I bought this product years ago when it was called “Bathina Body So Fine” (it was also my first Benefit product!). It was in a longer tin, too. Does anyone know why they changed the name/packaging/size?
No idea – maybe they felt it was time to revamp it, change materials, update the formula, or simply to switch it out for new packaging (and less product).
body so fine has more of a velvety finish and is a bit cooler and doesn’t have the subtle golden sheen of take a picture 🙂
so it was more of a revamp of the product than a repackage. BSF is now discontinued.
and kitten, unfortunately, is being phased out. 🙁
Really?! I have Body So Fine and I had no idea it was gone! I was wondering why they would release another product so similar. Good to know, thanks.
they are very similar, but i guess TAP is a little more noticeable.
there are quite a few products being phased out, and BSF is one of them, my counter [i work for benefit] hasn’t received any stock in a while so if you really love it, stock up! also on the chopping block is badgal blue mascara [phased out because of prrrowl] and the old lipgloss formula is slowly being replaced w the ultrashine formula.
LOL-“but if I have to squint and flail my arms in the sunlight to see if it’s there, I think there’s a problem!”- yeah a huge problem!!
I own Body So Fine and it is love! Definitely agree that they could describe the product better, it is much more of a glowy sheen (verry minimal shimmer, which is just my thing… I love subtle).
From what I’ve heard, people who loved the original don’t love the revamped version so much 🙁
I had the original tin and it was better, but not by much. I received this new version as a gift and I like it, mostly for the scent, but it is very sheer and I use it only for small areas more for the scent and to feel good than for the “glow”
I love this balm! 😉
I pictured you flailing your arms in the sunlight- made me laugh. 🙂
🙂
I like to use this balm as glow / highlighter on my cheeks.
Also I love the smell of this product!
