Benefit Dandy Brandy Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches

Benefit Dandy Brandy Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “copper spice.” It’s a gorgeous shade of bronze-shimmered medium brown with copper-red undertones. The hue reminded me of Make Up For Ever #15 when it is sheered out (when it’s opaque, it’s much too bronze and deep). Bare Escentuals The Truth is also quite similar, perhaps a bit redder. Shades like MAC Make Your Mark and MAC Buckwheat are noticeably darker.

Brandy Dandy has strong warm undertones, but paired with cool grays, taupes, or blues, could work on cooler complexions. Dandy Brandy pairs well with Fawn Over Me or Bikini Line for a quick and easy look of light/dark contrast with a lot of underlying warmth. It’s a good staple shade for those who love warm browns, but it’s certainly a shade that many brands have, so check your stash first for similarities.

Benefit recommends sweeping it on over bare lids for sheer color and layered over their cream eyeshadow for richer color. The super soft texture of the finely-milled powder makes it effortless to blend to a soft wash, but it doesn’t require building to get opaque color (see the swatch!) either. The Velvet Eyeshadows have a dense quality to them, and combined with their softness, makes them feel buttery and almost creamy (but they’re powder, I promise!). I’ve been a fan of Benefit’s eyeshadows for years now, and for those seeking softer shades overall, I recommend checking out the range.  As a bonus, each eyeshadow is double the size of your average eyeshadow!

This looks beautiful! I’m just not sure if it’s so unique.. I feel like I have other shadows very similar to it. But it may not be once they are right next to each other!

Great review even if the shade is not the most original–will there be any more individual reviews of Benefit Velvet shadows?
The reason I am asking is because Fawn Over Me has been on my mind for the longest time. But the shade’s popularity leads a constant “out of stock” at my local beauty stores-I can’t even swatch the color to get a feel for the product!

On another note, would Dandy Brandy be anything like MAC Mulch? It has red undertones and is very ‘bronze’ on me (supper pale, neutral undertones)

I know, there are lovely swatches of the spring 2010 lineup as well as the original review of the six eyeshadow colors. My bet is that the next review will be for Where There’s Smoke, which looks nothing like the color swatch on the Benefit’s website.

The hunt (ha!) for Fawn Over Me continues…

That is a TON of eyeshadow! And for only $18, that’s not bad at all! I really ought to take a peek at some of Benefit’s shadows. I’ve never really paid attention to them, and I’m not sure why!

I used to use Benefit shadows all the time but then they discontinued the entire line. I suppose to revamp them but they dq’ed all my favorite shades.

Pity, because I love the colour and the brand, but in the Naked & Preen palettes there are already bronzes and I don’t need any more. This shade is so much warmer and brown tan UD’s bronzes though, really pretty. Only thing I dislike is that it’s a single; I really prefer palettes or at least duos because they make more sense space-wise… can it be depotted, like MAC singles, to put it in a Z-palette?

It looks amazingly true-to-pan! Benefit’s been swaying me lately – I’m almost a convert! If only their blushes were such great value (like they used to be)!

What a beautiful color!

I thought the name of this eyeshadow sounded familiar; you reviewed/swatched this a couple years ago… Wow, there’s a huge difference between the product photo now and then! 😮 Funny how that happens. 🙂

I only have 3 of Benefits eyeshadow (and this is one of them) and I love them all, I don’t think they’re talked about enough! I’ve got my sights set on Fawn Over Me next, what do you think of that one?

Anne Avatar

Hi! I usually pair it with Leggy, which is a pale pink… with those two, you can get a similar effect to Benefit’s Natural Eye palette (I think that’s the name, sorry if I didn’t write it correctly).

This is a really pretty color, but I can’t help feeling like I probably already have a couple of shades that are very close to it… I’ve never tried Benefit’s powder shadows, though, I will have to keep my eyes open since you like the formula so much! Benefit as a brand has been hit-or-miss for me, and I had just written off the eye shadows without paying much attention to them.

I agsped when I saw this review; I’ve been raving about the shadow to anyone and everyone since I got it months and months ago. It’s one of my HG shadows, I love it! I also have Rich Beach, which is pretty 🙂
