bareMinerals The Rare Find Eyeshadow Quad
A Dream in Earth Tones
bareMinerals The Rare Find Eyeshadow Quad ($30.00 for 0.20 oz.) includes four shades: Lost for Words (neutral beige), Surreal (shimmering pale gold), Eureka (metallic moss), and Frisson (rusty auburn).
Lost for Words is a neutral medium beige with a mostly matte finish. It had good color payoff, and while finely-milled and soft to the touch, it was a smidgen powdery. MAC Arena is darker, warmer, and shimmery. Urban Decay Naked is darker, browner. MAC Brule is lighter.
Surreal is a yellowed gold with a metallic, frosted finish. The shade had lovely, full coverage color, and it was very soft, buttery, and smooth. L’Oreal Gold Imperial is less orange. L’Oreal Eternal Sunshine is comparable. Tarina Tarantino Mr. Gold is similar. Bare Minerals Remix is less orange. Chanel Blazing Gold is yellower.
Eureka is an olive green with a frosted finish. It was insanely pigmented–so much lush color–and was soft, smooth, and buttery. theBalm Lead Zeppelin is darker, less frosted. theBalm Wocka, Wocka is more olive. bareMinerals Spectacular is lighter and has more of a sheen. MAC Sumptuous Olive is lighter. Inglot #433 is more golden. Inglot #419 is darker, greener.
Frisson is a rusted brown-red with orange undertones and a satiny-matte finish. The pigmentation was out of this world, so a little goes a long way. theBalm Racy Kacy is darker and shimmery. MAC Soft Brown is lighter, less red-toned. Guerlain Les Fauves is more orange. Guerlain Turandot is very similar, less matte.
If you’ve been on the hunt for an earthy palette of colors, The Rare Find is an excellent option! It’s a very warm-toned set of shades, so it will be particularly flattering on complexions with yellow undertones. All four shades had stellar color payoff, and the only downside was that Lost for Words was just a tiny bit powdery in texture, which did not inhibit the wear or pigmentation. I wore the four shades together, and they lasted eight hours without a primer–no creasing or fading at all!
The texture of bareMinerals’ Ready formula is incredibly soft, finely-milled, and dense. It feels like butter, because it’s so smooth. Every time a new palette comes out and I try it, I’m impressed all over again, which is a very, very rare find indeed.

I just got this for my mom who has super yellow undertones and she loves it! Greens usually disappear on her skin, but she said she’s really impressed with this. Score!
This eye look is stunning on you.
Looking at the swatches I wasn’t impressed, but the look you have on your eyes is gorgeous!!! It fits you so well, I love it!!!
omgosh this is so gorgeous!!!! but I’m extremely cool toned. probably the pinkest person you will ever see. Do you think that this will still work on my cool complexion?? thanks!
If you like oranges on you normally, yes!
Oh this is lovely! I never checked out Bareminerals, but I really should!
Christine, I’ve got a question: do you think it’s worth getting both Guerlain Turandot and Chanel Harmonies du soir? I’m establishing my Christmas wishlist. 🙂
Both are useful! 🙂
Too warm for me, but freakin’ fantastic on you! I particularly like the rusty orange, Frisson. You see similar colours always done in shimmer or frost so it’s nice to see it in a matte finish.
Gorgeous colors, especially Eureka!
Beautiful! When you posted that look for eye of the day last week, the next day it inspired me to combine Maui Wowie, Mildew, Roach, and Naked. I used the UD Baked eyeliner too. Not the same, obviously, but a similar feel and I loved it.
This is a bit too warm for me but the colors are lovely. I’m really, really liking Eureka in particular.
Oh no! Here we go ago with stack of the bare Minerals reviews run. Colors too neutral for me…they wont stand out if I wore them colors.
Just stunning. These colors remind me of Autumn Leaves (the phenomenon AND the song 🙂
I love the way you’ve put these colors together! I think this will be on my Christmas list 🙂
I wasn’t too impressed until I saw the way you combined them! Beautiful! I’m going to try to recreate it with what I have.
This palette looks like it was put together with you in mind, LOL. I don’t think I’ve seen you do a look that incorporated such ideal shades (not to say anything was completely *unflattering*, but these are just perfect).
I really do like the golds, and the green is very pretty, but the matte russet shade just kills the palette for me. Perhaps a deep brown would make this palette wearable for me, but as it is, it’s far too warm.
The quality of the BareMinerals/Bare Escentuals (I wish they’d do something about the name) pressed shadows seems to be universally excellent but I am NOT going to buy this. The only colours I’d wear are those for which I’ve already got dupes (or dupes that are close enough that when applied on the eyes, you can’t tell the difference).
This palette is right up my alley! If I get the chance, I’d love to get this as a “pre-Christmas present”…I’m running out of excuses to buy more makeup 🙂 !
Wow look u did looks amazing!
Hmmm… quite nice, but methinks I have something similar already amongst my vast makeup collection 🙂
Gorgeous! I LOVE BM shadows!
It’s Lovely!!! If I wasn’t on such a tiny budget I’d buy it asap. The pigmentation looks amazing. But I honestly think my Yaby palette has very similar colours, so, no buy for me. Sad Face. 🙁
Brenda… how amazing are Yaby palettes?! I love mine!
YAY!! I don’t hear much about Yaby so love to another YAby fan!!
They are Utterly awesome, I have to say!! I have ordered about a dozen single shadows and popped out the colours that came in the palette I didn’t really use. I can’t think of any shadows in my collection that are better. So incredibly pigmented and I haven’t been disappointed with any, so far.
Christine, Eye shadows are my least favorites of makeup.. but the way you did this eye makeup makes me want to buy this quad (I’m heading to sephora right now). I know you are very busy but is there a step by step tutorial on this look? Thanks
Hey Sherly!
I don’t have a step-by-step for this one, unfortunately! It is, though, very similar to how I applied Chanel Intuition (http://www.temptalia.com/chanel-intuition-eyeshadow-quad-review-photos-swatches) just with different colors!
Oh ok. Thank you :). Btw… Got the quad and it is gorgeous 🙂
Yay!! 🙂
This quad doesn’t appeal to me personally but it’s nice to see this palette is just as good as previous ones!
This is full of lovely shades that I’m always drawn to. I do have dupes for these colors, so I’ll pass on this quad, but I’m just waiting until I see the right palette, because I’m really interested in trying this pressed line
wow… this is gorgeous!
I bought this quad shortly after it was released, usually I wait for you to review, but I couldn’t resist. It is so gorgeous on you! And I am totally loving it on me, too!
The look is absolutely stunning! I’m blown away!
I bought this palette because of the look on your eyes!! Stunning. Tutorial please for us less talented eyeshadow appliers :-).
This palette is gorgeous! I bought it yesterday and got at really good deal at Image Beauty. I am so glad I bought it. Christine, they do feel like butter! Thanks for this awesome review.
I have been drooling over these quads since you started reviewing them some time ago.
The price for Bare Escentuals in Australia is totally outrageous so I never buy (any) cosmetics domestically.
I bought this palette from look fantastic who are based in the UK. I have bought a lot from them during the past few years and today I received a newsletter saying they have a 3 for 2 offer across the entire Barfe Escentuals range AND free shipping with a minimium purchase of 25 GBP.
I was able to pick up 3 quads (including The Rare Find) for the price of 51 GBP (approx $75 USD).
