bareMinerals The Cliff Hanger Ready Eyeshadow Duo
bareMinerals The Cliff Hanger Ready Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.10 oz.) contains two shades: Suspense (natural stone) and Awe (violet woods). This is one of seven new duos for spring/summer. Each duo is packaged in a rubberized plastic compact with a full-size mirror inside and a sponge-tipped applicator. Each eyeshadow is the size of the average full-size eyeshadow (0.05 oz.).
Suspense is is a light-medium gray-beige with a matte finish. It’s a lighter taupe, mushroom-y kind of color. The color payoff is excellent, and the texture is soft, dense, and rich without being powdery. Guerlain Les Gris is lighter and shimmery. I was surprised when I wasn’t able to think of any other dupes!
Awe is a cool-toned, ultra dark purple with hints of teal and silver shimmer. It’s almost a blackened-purple, but there’s not enough darkness there (which isn’t a bad thing–blackened colors often lose the color nuance once applied). The pigmentation is good, but it’s not perfect–the texture is a smidgen on the drier side, especially compared to many of the other shades within the formula. bareMinerals Daring is similar but more intense, a little more purple. MAC Indigo Noir is purpler, less gray.
These two shades together aren’t quite as complementary as a lot of the other duos the brand has released. They certainly work together, but for whatever reason, it’s just not as effortless. I think it might be the beige-ness of Suspense that makes it more difficult. I love the texture and feel of Suspense, and it’s such a lovely, versatile neutral matte shade to work with. Awe applies fine, but you might need to go back to darken the area you applied it to. I did have a little fading with Awe after eight hours (without a primer–no fading when used over a primer) as well.

Love Awe.
@GUSnail Me too.
I did buy this one as soon as it was released and I really like it. I love all of the READY shadows. The quality is excellent and very consistent throughout all the shades.
I just love shadow colours like this that are subtle but still have a bit of spark. The purple is lovely and looks like it would make a really beautiful smokey eye.
The purple shade reminds me a bit of UD Rockstar (at least in the old formulation-the new on seems more vibrant). Perhaps because my skintone isn’t really on the warm side, I actually really like these types of colors together. I haven’t really looked at the BE Ready Eyeshadow Duos because when I swatched the 8 pan palettes at Sephora a while back, they didn’t seem to have good pigmentation. Did they change the formula?
Holy cow! I’m in love with this!! The Awe has me completely surprised! The swatch is so pretty!
Interesting colors!
But the colours! /helpless flails I love the washed-out violet of Awe – it’s absolutely awe-inspiring 😉
(I’m sorry, I’m sorry; someone had to say it! :P)
Gorgeous! I’ve been waiting for shades I don’t have dupes of to try out this formula… This might be my duo!
Christine, how do you think Suspense would look as a subtle (contouring) crease color for fair skin?
Huh, Suspense looked almost pink in the pan, so I’m kind of surprised at how grey it swatches. It’s a lovely duo, though! I think these would wear particularly well on cooler skin tones.
My thoughts exactly!
not a fan at all of the newer BE products since they sold to Shedido. The texture is just not right on them – and I HATE getting 2 in one compact and always finding there is one of the 2 I won’t use – makes for tons of clutter. Better if they jumped on the eco friendly bandwagon like Tarte and have ALL their duos , quads and collections in magnitized pans. Then you can always customize and trade too with friends when you get a shade that is not YOURs at all.
Could you really use these 2 colors together?
I have to disagree with beachgal. I think the company is far better than it used to be. I only saw middle aged and older women buying their products for the most part, but now with the pressed products they’re getting more attention with women in their 20’s. All of the shades work together, you just have to be a little bolder and try them!
@Bittenhoney I actually find their loose shadows to be so much better. I’ve swatched *several* of these pressed eyeshadows and have gotten barely any color payoff (if at all), whereas with *all* of my loose shadows, I barely touch my brush to product and I get amazing pigmentation. I doubt it has anything to do with being sold to Shiseido, as I love NARS, and Shiseido is fabulous. By the way, I’ve been using the loose shadows since I was in my 20s.
