bareMinerals bareMinerals The Alter Ego Eyeshadow Duo
bareMinerals bareMinerals The Alter Ego Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.10 oz.) won’t be available until May, but hang onto your seats, because it’s such a lovely duo. This is one of the best eyeshadow formulas on the market, and bareMinerals didn’t let us down with their expansion of their Ready line-up. Alter Ego consists of two shades: Wicked and Daring.
Wicked is a springy yellow-tinted green with a frosted finish. It has excellent pigmentation and goes opaque with very little product needed. Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone is darker, more olive green. MAC Juxt is yellower, a bit darker. Inglot #364 is very similar but a matte variation. It’s a warm, yellow-based green, but subtly done–it’s not as yellow or as warm as other shades that might be similar.
Daring is this rich, smoky purple with subtle red undertones and almost bluish tint. The color payoff is amazing–I couldn’t believe it–it was so soft, smooth, and rich. MAC Indigo Noir is similar but matte. MAC Imaginary is purpler and brighter. MAC Starless Night is similar but more shimmered, less muted.
What makes the formula impressive is the pigmentation; both shades in this duo were intensely pigmented with a soft, smooth texture that was dense and buttery without being so soft it was crumbly or powdery. Â This texture and payoff translates seamlessly to the lids during application. Â They’re soft and blendable. Â Without a primer, it wears for over eight hours with no noticeable issues–after ten, there is the faintest fading around the crease. Â With a primer, I have no problems even after ten hours. Â The price point is palatable, too–two full-sized eyeshadows for $20.

Okay, I have to get this! I just recently bought one of these duos, I think Show Stopper? The formula’s every bit as great as you say, and I can’t wait for more color choices.
AMAZING! I’m so happy you tried + loved! I can’t get over it. I just played with these new ones, and I was like, “OH MY GOD YOU’RE STILL AS GOOD AS I REMEMBER!”
I normally pass on Bare Escentuals but I might actually pick this duo up. Very eccentric.
Every time I stop in Sephora I always skip the Bare Minerals section but after seeing these swatches and the price tag…I think I wanna give the brand a try! This duo is amazing.
These are absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to see a look incorporating them!
Looks amazing! I’m definitely going to pick this one up. I think Tarina Tarantino’s Opal Sparklicity would look amazing over these colors!
I haven’t tried these pressed eyeshadow duos, but I’m loving the new pressed bronzers! Pigmented, super soft and blendable, and wears well!
I just got the duo scenic route and I was wowed by the formula! For some reason I didn’t expect much from this brand’s eyeshadows but they are amazing
I didn’t know what to expect, either. I’ve read mixed reviews on the pressed colors, but these photos look great. I’ll probably pass on this particular duo, though, because even though the purple is beautiful, it does look alot like Starless Night, and I can’t see touching the yellow (but I can see how they would look amazing together). I’ll probably check out some other shades eventually, but for now I’m loving my BE loose shadows.
I normally don’t buy bare escentuals but the colors are amazing!! Those were the colors of my wedding last year so I really want to pick this up duo…thanks for your opinion I really find your reviews spot on 🙂
I’m going nuts over the color combinations in the new shades of these duos! I just saw Muse’s post on these as well and I might need them all. This will be the first I get. Thanks Christine!
I can’t understand why more people don’t love these. Christine, thank you for all your hard work. I always keep your page open in my tabs because I’m always searching for new products and keeping up to date with product launches. If I see a product I like, I check your reviews first! Right now, I have 6 tabs opened to one of your pages.
Thank you! 🙂
Will this be the only new Ready Duo? Will there be more quads released in May? I have 1 quad, 3 duos and the Playlist palette already, love them.
I believe there are six or seven new duos and two quads.
Thanks! I can’t wait to see more colors. I had to talk myself out of buy all the existing duos and quads when they were first released. I only bought the ones that I couldn’t live without.
Wow, I don’t think I’ve seen those kinds of colors before from the simple stuff I use. I can see myself glamming it up with this – normally not a huge fan of Bare Escentials, but I’m gonna try this.
I hope I remember to pick this up when it comes out eventually ;p
AHHHHHH!!! I am SO excited for these. I believe there’s going to be seven new duos, two new quads but two of the current quads are going to be discontinued. I don’t know if any of the duos will be discontinued immediately but odds are, the less popular shades will be. Thank you for posting this, its getting me SO pumped for the May launches!
Every time you review one of these, I remember that for some reason, I’ve yet to buy one that was for myself and not as a gift for someone else. I THINK IT MAY BE TIME TO REMEDY THAT.
Haha! It is!
D: But… I love these two colors… I’m trying NOT to buy too many new eyeshadows…
I love the yellow! I am definitely checking these out next time I’m at Sephora!
Why must you tempt me Bare Escentuals! If I didn’t already own similar shades, I would totally want this.
I got one of the new 4.0 quads, The A-List. It must be promoted early at Ulta. It’s really pretty. I saw the rest of the colors posted at another blogger. Looking forward to hopefully the rest of the colors from you Christine.
I can feel my wallet crying. D:
i have been looking for this duo and can’t believe i have to wait until may- ugh- looks fabulous!
I love these colors!
Christine, I can’t recall seeing 5/5 for packaging from you before. Was it just overwhelming love for these that swayed you, or something else?
I have given it many times 🙂
Packaging score is purely based on packaging – has nothing to do with whether it’s a good product or not. These compacts have a rubberized exterior, so they don’t hold fingerprints and absorb impact better if you accidentally drop them, as compared to a regular plastic compact. NARS gets 5/5 for the same reasons.
I’m so excited about the new ready duos and quads! I have almost all the existing ones and I absolutely love these eye shadows. I’m a bit obsessed with having them all lol. Do you have all the new ones? Are there going to be reviews on the rest of them soon?
Wicked is such a unique color! I might just have to get this one! and that purple!! so pretty!!!
OMG, I’m definitely getting this when it comes out!! I have two neutral ready duos from bare minerals and I love them, and both of the colors in this duo are out of this world. They almost look duochromey!!
Hi! You stated that the longevity increased with a primer….what primer do you use? TIA
I use NARS Smudgeproof!
whoa. i was not expecting these swatches at all. they are so opaque!! i must try these out.
I just got the email to order online with free shipping….so of course I had to come back here to double check the swatches…I think it’s an easy yes.
