Are there any colors you won’t wear for lipstick/gloss? Will you wear any shade?

I’ll wear any shade, though I don’t often go for hues like blue or black on the regular!

Yes, I agree with you. No-can-do on the funky colors like blue, black, green etc. And as much as I find pinks, purples and plums really pretty, they do nothing to enhance my complexion.

I used to steer clear from pink shades, but I recently found a pink that works on me, so I’m starting to wear pink and it’s appropriate for the season. I haven’t tried violet shades though, and dark colored lipsticks like dark brown, dark red etc.

deep purples, plums or black (when I was in high school and being gothy, I would so rock those looks) I’m a bit on the pale side and those deep tones look very harsh on me now. the darkest lip color I own and like is viva glam 3.

I won’t wear anything orange or coral I’m too yellow toned and I feel like it kicks up the anemic look I’m trying to avoid. not too fond of brown shades either but I’m willing to change my mind on that.

livnzoe Avatar

of course i don’t wer any black, green, yellow etc.. lipproducts
and i also don’t like very dark colours, like a dark red.. browns and dark bronzy colors are also not my favourites!

.. i’m very pale with light brown hair… i just don’t have the right complexion to wear such dark colours!

i cant wear lipstick thats darker than flesh colour as it ages me by 20 years, i also hate blue toned lipsticks on me they look un-natural, i can only stick to the pale peach or nude colours.

Green & Black.
Blue would be kinda fun (it’d be more wearable* if it leaned more purple!).
But none of these colours would be regular, more like once a year on Halloween!

Martina Avatar

some shades of pink. i like it so much, but i find that it just doesn’t look good on me (red hair :-S) a dark pink will work, but a bright light or pastel pink won’t.

Dawn Avatar

I won’t wear blue as I don’t want to look like a corpse, and it looks very unnatural anyway lol. I also won’t wear black or very dark colours, as I am very pale skinned and don’t want to look like a goth, or milky pale colours as they look ghastly (or could that be ghostly?) on me. I wouldn’t wear silver, gold or yellow lipstick either.

MaryBeth Avatar

I usually stick with my light pinks/nudes but I have a variety that I wear on occasion. The only color I won’t wear is coral just because it looks awful on me!

Black, unless its halloween I generally am opposed to black, I love. Rosy pink colors but I’ll also wear nude, red, blue, lavender, orange, anything that’s not too neon or crazy dark. I’m still looking for a good peach. I don’t wear the ones I have but I’m not opposed to the color in general, I just haven’t found anything I really love. Suggestions?

Ru Avatar

Yes, anything too off like blue, black, dark purple. I also stay away from red because it just doesn’t flatter me (or I just don’t like that much attention). I only wear red if it’s sheer. I love muted pinks and recently have an obsession with fuschia

Vale Avatar

The so called “true red”. It’s the most vulgar colour I’ve ever seen in my entire life (go, figure, here it is “friendly” called “the bi**h red”!)

Cassy Avatar

Of what I would call “normal” shades, I stay away from anything that’s a deep brown/raisin color. Blues and blacks are also out on a normal basis (actually I think they probably are out on an always basis)

Ani_BEE Avatar

I’ve pretty much worn every shade in the rainbow at one point. But for daily I wear corals and pinks.

Purples looks awful on me unless I’m wearing a wig to counter my auburn hair. 😛

anonymous Avatar

orange looks pretty hideous making me look like I have jaundice & yellow teeth when I have neither. don’t care much for browns for similar reasons. not a fan of hot pink or purple but I do like softer pinks & purples.

Vanessa S Avatar

I won’t wear black, browns, purples (or any color that isnt natural for lips). I love reds and hot pinks but i sometimes feel silly wearing them or like people stare so i don’t wear em too much.

Evelyn Avatar

Coral, absolutely hate it. And colors lips don’t normally come in like blue or yellow (ok lips aren’t bright red either but red still works!).

Marcela Avatar

red! i can’t help but picture a grandma trying to look younger by wearing red lips. LOL i find red lipstick terribly dated and really harsh-looking.

amelia Avatar

My skintone is VERY warm, so I won’t wear light blue-based pinks. I’m pretty sure the only way I could pull them off is for halloween. I also don’t tend to buy any lipsticks with any frost or shimmer.

Sarah Avatar

I tend to not wear untraditional lip colors- blue, green, yellow, black. Other than that, I’m game to try anything! Even the aforementioned colors if they’re very sheer.

leesie Avatar

I actually never veer very far from nudes. I’ll sometimes put on a darker color when I’m not leaving the house, or for a special event (I wore a really vampy lip to Rocky Horror, for instance), but generally, I have a fear of looking like I’ve put waaay too much on, and since I prefer a more dramatic eye anyway, I just avoid lip products that draw any attention to my lips. At all.
The other day I tested Benefit lipstick in Shy with one of their pink sparkly glosses over it (I don’t remember its name) and even though I was only wearing some mascara on my eyes, just walking around the mall, I was self-conscious.

ann Avatar

i love really bold unique bright out there colors that normally you wouldn’t see too many girls rocking. so i drove all the way to chicago from wisconsin for this illamasqua lipstick in trash because it was discontinued and they had only one left in chicago sephora. it was a metallic gold color- like real metallic gold very pigmented. it turned out looking horrible and i returned it. what a waste of gas and parking money!

Nica Avatar

I can’t wear light nudes because I look sick or dead. Love bights like reds and pinks! However I stick to those that are more cool toned as the warmer shades make me look more red than I already am =]I would probably never wear green or yellow lipstick!

Deb Avatar

I am afraid of dark browns and light tans because I’m so pale. Tans just look funny on me because my lips are fairly naturally pigmented, and browns just don’t flatter me. I’d like to try more shades, though!

In high school, I definitely work black and blue lipstick, so I was never afraid of color! These days, I stick to pinks, corals, and occasionally reds.

AnGeLwInGz Avatar

I’m open to experimenting with any color when it comes to gloss, and I quite like blue and black. With lipstick I am super picky. I wear Dior Addict Pinstripe Plum. That’s it. And only in the fall!

Jessica Avatar

Mauves and anything purple-y or blue-based. I wore a mauve once and was asked if something was wrong with my lips (I thought so too). They make my skin look sallow, teeth look yellow, and my lips look small.

Also, judging by the comments, we are including off-colours. I would never wear ridiculous off-colours. These are: blue, black, white, yellow, green, grey, and silver.

Lucie Avatar

I feel comfortable rocking anything-blue, green, black, old-lady mauve; whatever ya throw at me! The one shade I find extremely unflattering on my complexion are pale milky blue based pinks a la Viva Glam GaGa. But even those I can make work with a darker lip liner underneath. Lipstick is fun, just roll with it!

Erica Avatar

There are a lot of “normal” lipstick colors that I don’t wear, actually. Bright pinks don’t work for me, some nudes look really ugly as well, and no dark reds or oranges either.

Laura Avatar

I can’t imagine wearing green or yellow colours on lips. I’ll wear black occasionally as I don’t mind going a bit goth for a night out, and I’d be wiling to try blue.

melissa Avatar

abnormal colors such as blue, green, black or yellow… do not see a need, place or time for those, other than to take photo’s of and maybe for halloween! I just think they are tacky and trashy

Laia Avatar

– Any colours out of the ordinary: Blue, green, yellow, black, white (and matte, I can wear white if it’s reaaaaaaally sheer), etc.
– Really cool toned and pale colors: for example, I can’t wear Viva Glam Gaga because I’m medium-tan and it just doesn’t look right. Colors that wash out my lips are also a no-no.

For the rest, give me everything you want!

LorraineER Avatar

I don’t wear non-traditional lip colors such as blue, yellow, green, etc. only because they don’t look good on me but if they did I’d wear them! I also avoid tans/fleshtone nudes, and browns. I’m open to pretty much everything else though! I love color!

Instant Karma Avatar

I naturally have very pigmented lips — a red/berry color that’s bright enough that a guy I once dated thought I always had lipstick on until he eventually noticed that no matter how much he kissed me, the color didn’t disappear! I actually only wear lipgloss or lipstick that either makes my lips look more red or more berry-colored. Nothing else is as flattering, so why bother?
