I’ve tested several. Lasted were a Sisley and a Chanel. The formula was good but they’re all far too dark for me although I purchased the lightest shade each time. It’s really bothering: I hate looking all dark and orangey. It makes my face look dirty and older than it is.
I’m going to use what remain from my tube this summer, blended with sunscreen. That will hopefully calm down the color a bit. When I’m done with those tube, I won’t bother losing money on tinted moisturers.

Try Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Moisturizer. I’ve never found a foundation my whole life light enough for me until I bumped into a Bobbi Brown counter. I get the lightest shade – Alabaster.

Nathalie Avatar

I’ll go and check this Bobby Brown tinted moisturer, thank you for the tip, Kalie. It’s very kind. 🙂 One foundation that is very light is Sisley Phyto Teint Eclat in n°0 “Porcelaine”. It’s the lightest shade I’ve found around.

Buying tinted moisturizer by itself just seems pointless to me. I get the same results from just combining the moisturizer that I already have with the foundation I already have, and I know that it’s going to be the color I want, and the moisturizer is going to be good for my skin.

how is it a waste if you are using one product instead of two? i guess it depends on the brands you use but when i use a tinted moisturizer instead of moisturizer and foundation i save money

mlou Avatar

true. I need a regular sunscreen w/ much higher SPF anyway, and don’t like most foundations as they are heavy & I don’t need more than sheer coverage.

Love it! Arbonne’s tinted mosturizer is the only one I’ve tried, and it works really well for me. Since my skin doesn’t need too much coverage and I hate feeling like I have loads of makeup on, I never wear foundation anymore since I’ve used it. 🙂

If I had to wear something makeup wise over my face then it would definitely be a tinted moisturizer. foundation is too much.

Laura Mercier’s regular TM is my favorite. I tried so many other ones, and this one in Porcelian doesn’t look too warm/orange, or oxidize later in day/evening. And it is sheer enough that I don’t have to cover my freckles. Perfect touch to even out skin, feels weightless, and lasts from early a.m. to late night.

Combo skin so I do use richer moisturizer on dry areas during winter months.

I have been looking feel a good tm. I ended up getting the Stila since they are having their sale. Hopefully I will like it.
I really want something with light coverage for summer

not enough coverage? you might as well use foundation instead of a tinted moisturizer. I’ve tried several tinted moisturizers but never found any I liked, I still want to try Stila’s tinted moisturizer, been hearing alot of good things about it 🙂

I have a love/hate relationship with tinted moisturizers. I love how they can give you quick lightweight coverage but i hate how greasy, shiny & slimy they make my skin feel. Even ones like Laura Mercier Oil-Free TM settles into my pores & makes my skin look oily. When I first put it on, I love how it looks & how it feels but hours later I hate it.

Elena Avatar

Tinted moisturizers always leave my skin too oily (I already have problems controlling oil) and I always have to add on under-eye corrector and set them with powder to wear them out. I’ve bought two in the past, one from Smashbox and the oil-free version from Stila. The Smashbox is good for actual moisture, but leaves my skin greasy and the “light” color is still too dark for my NW20 skin. Stila’s works nicely as a base for more makeup, but it is pretty useless to use for either coverage or moisture. I have no plans to repurchase either.

I LOVE tinted moisturizer bc foundation has too much coverage for me. If u want a lot of coverage tinted moisturizer is not for u. I love Stila’s because it has spf and makes my skin look dewy and healthy. I have tried laura mercier since so many people rave about it, but I didn’t like it.

Mary Avatar

LOVE. I love Stilas because it gives your face a really natural glow and the coverage is perfect! I also love that it has sunscreen in it!

Kalie Avatar

LOVE LOVE it! I’ve struggled finding a foundation with a light enough coverage for me, heavier coverage just looks bad on my skin. Something must be funky with my pores, plus I have pretty decent skin and don’t need anything heavy. Tinted Moisturizer covers up the little red in my cheeks or around my noise and makes my skin glow.

I want light coverage over all my skin except my dark under eye circles! I have never found a tinted mositurizer that was able to blend well over concealer. Anyone have a way around that?

fuzz Avatar

Well i never tried any but im plannin on mixin my foundation with my moisturizer.I like heavy coverage and a dewy look. But for the summer less is best.im gona give it a shot.By the way if i was to mix the two how much foundaiton should i add?

Kristine Avatar

hey Christine..I’m just wondering if you can do like a top 5 or 10 tinted moisturize..?because i’m really on the hunt for one..and i’m looking for suggestions..hope you can spare some time to do it..! 🙂

Love BB cream, which stands for Blemish Balm Tinted moisturizer. It covers well, while providing moisture and SPF. The particular brand I am using is a bit thick, so I mix it with MAC Strobe liquid and it is great.

I like the idea of tinted moisturizer. But then when I put it on, I end up wishing it was foundation b/c the coverage is too sheer. And then my face gets oily during the course of the day because I didn’t get to use foundation primer before I put on the TM (and not sure if I should have used the primer afterward), since I usually put primer on in between moisturizer and foundation?

Anyway, I just mix my regular moisturizer w/ mac f&b foundation once in a while, just in case i end up liking the way TM looks on my face. So far, not a big fan, but at least I can still use the products separately instead of waste $$ on a tube that I won’t use up.

To me, it’s a confusing product!! 🙂

I’m indifferent. I would love to be able to wear a TM but I’m afraid my skin is too acne-prone. I wear sunscreen everyday and I have to be careful to prevent break outs even with SS!

I need more coverage than a TM usually provides. Usually if I want a quick low makeup look, I use concealer on any blemishes and blend it in VERY well and use pressed powder.

p-ham Avatar

i love the idea of TMs, but when they’re all too thick/greasy/bleh and don’t have enough coverage.. so why bother? i’d much rather use a lightweight moisturizer (with adequate SPF always) and apply powder foundation or MMU over it for a natural look but WITH enuf coverage! but if u have great skin that BARELY needs to be evened out.. then sure why not.

Christi Avatar

I can’t live without tinted moisturizer! I put it on under foundation as a primer. The finished look is nice and dewy, instead of dry and cakey. Plus it has SPF in it, and I never go out w/o some kind of SPF anymore.

Since I discovered the existence of tinted moisturizer, I’ve been using Covergirl’s version. It’s cheap and gives the desired result. But, I would like to try some others. Any suggestions? And, coverage isn’t an issue. It’s not supposed to give major coverage, just a little bit.

I don’t know if the body shop exists in the US, but back here in Belgium it does lol and it’s the only tinted moisturizer I have found that suits my skin perfectly. I have a really light skin tone and so none of the others seem to give a nice result. They are always so orange-y or yellow.
I don’t wear foundation alot, so tinted moisturizer is my all-year round solution haha. And for summer it is definitely the best option with the sun and all.

I tested only one (Nivea) and wasnt much impressed…. too dry, and the color, even the palest, made me look yellow…I feel rather indifferent to that kind of product: I prefer applying a moisturizer cream, and finish with a loose powder (T. LeClerc is wonderful)

Andrea Avatar

I haven’t found on that is a good enough moisturizer for me. Now I just use my regular foundtaion mixed with my own moisturizer.

valentina Avatar

For those who can’t find a light tinted moisturizer, I’d recommend Nuxe Teint Ultra Prodigieux “healty glow” tinted care. It comes in 2 shades, one for fair and the other for dark skin. I’m using shade 01 and it suits me perfectly!

I just recently got the Laure Geller one….I like it so far. I’ve got combo/oily skin and break out a bit. I’m not into heavy & cakey make up…..I resort to liquid foundation (MAC SFF) during the winter when my oily becomes dry skin. So far this one offers enough coverage where I don’t feel nakey on the face lol. Just put some balance-n-brighten on and I’m good to go. I wore it to a baseball game (it was HOTTT) and my face looked great afterwards. We’ll see how this goes in the long run, but right now it’s fine
