Temptalia Asks You - Are you picky about the beauty products you buy?

Are you picky about the beauty products you buy? Do you spend a bit of time contemplating your purchase or what item you really want to get? Do you make many impulse buys (that may or may not work out well)?

I definitely contemplate a great deal when I’m looking at buying products these days.I have a fair bit of makeup, so I try to make sure I add valuable pieces to it, rather than further accumulate the same shade of green shadow or yet another plain pink lipstick.

My thinking is just like yours Christine. I spend a great deal of time searching out swatches, asking MUA questions, and testing with samples first.

I definitely prefer to pay more & have a product work for me than pay less just to get a good deal and be disappointed. And, I read & research always!

same i also try to keep in mind what i will wont use! Altough i know certain products are amazing/ gorgeous shades i know that i am not a green eyeshadow girl no matter how amazing the green is. You can return things as easily here so i definately think about stuff alt before hand even though i have been known to buy things impulsively in the past

90% of the makeup I buy is planned and works out great.

Sometimes though I get caught up in the OOOooo!Pretty! Mentality and buy something on impulse. Rarely do I regret it or buy a duplicate, but when I do I pass it on to my best friend to see if she can make use of the thing.

I am very picky with brands and value — gift sets were invented for me! i tend to plan out my cosmetics purchases, but other beauty products (face care, body wash, etc) i am very impulsive with and usually wind up with 2 or 3 of the same item (literally, same brand and everything) without realizing it!

I have always been a bit of an impulse buyer and would tend to go shopping when depressed feeling and just buy stuff because it was on sale – bad, bad, bad! I was able to break this really bad habit about two or three years ago, thank goodness I never allowed myself to get a credit card knowing that it and I would be a bad combo. Now I really try and look at how much value/enjoyment I will get from a product and also do the “do I really need this?” test. More often than not, the answer is no, I really don’t.

I now tend to buy higher end products, stick to quality over quantity, and I very much will exercise the return policy.

Its funny though, when I try and plan what I am going to buy at the MAC store it always seems like I see the product in person and am not as excited about it as I thought I would be. What I do then is just play around with some of the other colors until I find something I enjoy. Usually out of 5 or 6 items bought I will return one though. I always test drive my make-up in the rear view mirror (lol Im so funny) to see how they look up close and in natural light….sooooooo much better than in store lighting.

I do impulse buy sometimes (not in the sense that I don’t research the product but in that sense that I’ve wanted it for a while and just buy it even though I don’t really have the money). But I never buy anything I know I won’t use. Everything in my collection has been used at some point, some things more than others like anyone’s make-up collection. Like you, my collection is quite large and I never just collect for the sake of collecting. I do not even own many back-ups at all, even of my favourite products. So I can say I am happy about that, not being a collector but more of an owner. 馃檪

i am SUCH an impulse purchaser. i went to MAC today with 12 empties, “only” to trade them in for a few eyeshadows, and ending up buying a ton of stuff. i feel like i need to ban myself, because once i’m there i don’t think about my finances/needs vs. wants, or anything other than “ooh pretty” lol. i definitely consider myself an “owner,” since i try and use everything i own and rotate what’s in my makeup bag often. i am officially banning myself (again) from going to the mall. :-/

I am totally impulsive in some ways. When I get to MAC I always walk out with way more than I went in for, like the other day when I went for moisturizer and walked out with Politely Pink l/s, Oyster Girl l/g and a 219 brush as well as a bottle of Studio Moisture Fix. I just liked the way it looked on the MA, who had some what similar coloring as me so I got it. I tend to buy even if I can’t really afford it at that moment, which is terrible!

But I’m not impulsive at the same time because I read tons of reviews, on here and Make-up Alley (I get really bored at work) so I know what I want and what I don’t. I also swatch and test everything out before I get it. Mostly I want everything, but it does save me from buying some things.

But I also have to stop buying for a while, this holiday stuff is hurting my wallet!

yes. i think thousand times before buying any beauty products. i compare its contents, and the benefits i may get. i also consider budget at i think it over and over if i will be able to use it (all of it!). i ask questions like ‘can i use this in any occasions?’, ‘will this get along with other products?’, is this a good investment?’– something like that..

When i was around 14-15 i was all about impulse… that is why i have so many pieces of the same e/s color. but as I’m getting older i contemplate much more 馃榾
