Temptalia Asks You - Where do you find inspiration for your makeup looks?
Where do you find inspiration for your makeup looks? Do you find it in nature, magazines, celebrities? What inspires you to try a certain look or change up your makeup style?
I personally find a lot of my inspiration from color combinations, just seeing them in my head or on a website or on a random product design.
Lately i have gone REALLY REALLY REALLY mad about color combinations,as makeup inspirations. i sat in the bathroom and i looked at all the green things there. how many different hues!-i thought. the toothpaste and mouthwash… the towel and the design on the wall…
i thought: if only i could have all this types of greens in eyeshadows!!!!! this was maybe 3 months ago. since then,i only look at the world as a big inspiration source, full of great color combinations.
in the past, when i started to develop the inspiration-thing,i looked at flowers in the garden, they are naturally equipped with good looking color combinations.
i also take the fashion looks of celebrities as inspiration. for example once Posh Spice wore white jeans and a silver top, silver shoes. from then,i try to master a silver-white eye makeup look 😀
Beyoncé’s deep blue floor-length dress inspired one of my dark blue smokey eyes.
on an autumn walk in the forest recently, all i saw were beautiful orange, red and lemon tones, ideal for a look.
everybody around me gets mad nowadays, because if i start to talk about anything,i always end up like:”what an excellent color combo! if only i could have this very certain lemon yellow!!”
i think u can never ever own enough different shadows.
i have 104 exactly, but every time i start doing a look,i always end up thinking: my purple is not vivid enough for this look…. and so.
product packaging: i always keep the paper packaging of beauty products. my all time favourite color combo is the box of the Pantene hair masks.
i only bought the one for color treated hair,to have its box :-DDD ok,i used it,too.
my other huge inspiration is to read about e/s on blogs.
for gothic styles,i prefer my favourite band’s videos. it’s HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! someone else loves Ville Valo, too????????????????????
You have an excellent take on it, Zsofi 🙂 Sounds like you’re never at a loss for inspiration!
Usually I see something on my sister (we have the same color eyes and same skin tone) and think “That looks really good, I’ll have to try that.” Sometimes I just go the makeup counter, see what colors catch me eye, and then ask about colors to go with them. Every once in awhile I will see something in a magazine that I like, but usually I have to tone it down!
What a great way to get inspired, Courtney! I’m totally jealous!!
I find my inspiration from the birds and parots thats I work with everyday.
Awesome source, Cristine!
What I’ve been trying to do lately is, strange as it sounds, get inspired by my own face! I’m trying to figure out how to play up my own unique features, thinking really openly about how I can apply (mostly neutrals) color to the planes of my face, and trying to ignore all the “rules” about what will look “good.”
Related to this, I’m psyched about the sculpt n shape duos…yay!
That’s excellent, Carrie!! Nothing strange about it 🙂
I’m so happy they’re launching for consumers. I just wish I had known because I bought them all at PRO as singles!
I get my inspiration from Temptalia. 😉 Also in the mix is inspiration from nature and random swatch testing on my arm. I’m also a favorite MAC visitor who has been adopted by an artist who shows me the absolute coolest things…
I do follow trends to some degree, but if I want to wear a bright springtime look in winter, dang it I will!
Aww, thanks Tekoa! Nature is a great source of inspiration. I love flowers 😀
Lucky you for scoring your own personal MA!
– the produce section at the grocery store
– my mother’s very extensive yarn/knitting collection
– high fashion spreads in magazines
– my favorite beauty websites (Temptalia would be one of them)
Produce section – nice!
And thank you 🙂
I get a lot of tips from my friends…living in Hollywood, you get to see a lot of really cool, different makeup styles! A lot of my friends are in beauty school as well, so that helps 🙂 I’m not very creative when it comes to color…I like black eyeliner, black eyeshadow, purple eyeshadow, sometimes red lipstick if I’m feelin’ foxy! I also get a lot of tips from Glamour…If you want daily beauty, fitness, and fashion tips from the experts, go to http://www.glamour.com/tips and register…You could also win a 3 day Spa trip for 2 to Los Angeles, airfare and hotel INCLUDED!! I work with Glamour, so I have the inside scoop 😉
That’s great, Kacey! And so true – Hollywood is a great ground to see what’s going on.
I’m inspired by colors…….colors of clothing, of the sky at sunset, magazine ads, anything 🙂
Very good sources, Courtney! I love sunsets, too 🙂
Kevin Aucoin’s book “Making Faces” really REALLY inspires me. There are so many incredible looks and transformations in it that it’s hard not to get excited about makeup when you flip through that book. Aucoin was a true makeup “artist” who was not afraid to break rules and cross the restrictive lines of beauty do’s and don’ts.
It really is a gorgeous book to leaf through when you have a moment.
Things around me, flowers, colored things, beauty and blogs and really YOU are one of the people that inspires me the most!!!
Flowers are a great source for inspiration! Thank you for the compliment, too 🙂
I find inspiration from this site of course–from the looks and techniques you come up with! And also from fashion magazines and pictures of celebrities on the red carpet. I also have this pocket color wheel that helps me come up with good color combos 🙂
Thank you, Janis! Fashion magazines always have great avant garde spreads. Ohh, that color wheel sounds great!
Allure and other beauty blogs, especially when it comes to looks I’m unconfortable with (like pinks and scary colors)!
Love Allure! I also love those long beauty spreads in magazines.
first of all YOU!! because of you I learned how to blend thanks sooo much
I also love specktra and youtube
Aw, thanks Jeni!! 🙂
