Lots and lots of sunscreen, tinted moisturizer, waterproof mascara, long-wearing eyeliner, a coral blush, a few lipglosses, and one red lipstick–for a fancy night out!

Brights! Leave the bland neutrals at home. Fat eyeliners, that double as cream shadows are great for lids. Less is more, when you’re traveling. Good to give skin a rest. Mineral foundation, a good lash curler, and a concealer. A blush stick, touch of shimmer is gorgeous with tanned skin. Think Nars, Orgasm.
LOTS of sunscreen so my pale skin doesn’t get harmed if i lay by the window in the hotel room and don’t leave because i cannot handle tropical heat lol
Well, if I could afford a tropical vacation, I might as well buy a brand new trove of high-end makeup. :p
Well, if I were to go somewhere tropical, I’d be staying indoors, where the air-conditioning is, so I wouldn’t bother with makeup. I would be sure to bring plenty of moisturizer & lip balm, though. I don’t care for heat, and when you add the humidity, it’s even worse.
emphatically agree!
I would bring my naked palette, tinted moisturizer, mascara and sunscreen. If I am going to the tropics, I want to be soaked head to toe in ocean water, I want my body become wrinkly because I soaked in the ocean for hours on end.
That’s why I’m only bringing the “basics”. I have no doubt that I would be checking out their makeup counters for local products so I would not clutter my bag.
Sparkly! Chartreuse, blue-teal and gold eyeshadows. Peachy-pink blushes.
I usually bring my Mac studio fix powder plus foundation. It’s small and easy to apply without having a drag a bunch of brushes with me. Then I toss in waterproof mascara, simple black eyeliner, a small quad of eyeshadows, one blush, my eyebrow pencil and a couple travel sized Mac brushes. Then of course my moisturizer and primer.
I live in Hawaii, here’s some of my favorite stuff.
I love Fresh Soy moisturizer with SPF 20, I’m VERY fair and this works great here for just hanging around town. I also love Fresh Sugar lip balms, or Clinque lip glosses. Neither melt (on your face or in your pocket!) and both have SPF. Tarte blushes stay put, and so far I’m loving Too Faced’s BB cream (liquid one). It’s light, again has an SPF, and doesn’t melt away. Lancôme hypnosis mascara is my favorite, waterproof or not, doesn’t matter. It stays put and doesn’t melt all over my face (I cannot say the same for many other brands). I like Too Faced, Sephora, or MAC eyeshadows over Too Faced shadow insurance, I found they’re the least likely to smear when you sweat.
Thanks for the mascara recommendation! I’m going to have to pick that up before my vacation.
No problem! I wouldn’t wear the non waterproof one in the ocean/pool, but it definitely won’t melt everywhere! I love trial sets where they come with tiny mascaras. I’ve tried more than a dozen of them and so far Lancôme is the best. I have really long lashes so I hate looking in the mirror after being out for a couple of hours and seeing its smeared all over my browbone and under my eyes. My husband is a great one for saying “I didn’t notice”. Nice Hunny, real nice. 😉
Do you ever see the hot guys of Hawaii 5-0 filming? My husband and I went 3/11 but they had wrapped for the season.
No, we live on one of the smaller islands. We were on Oahu when Lost was still filming. The security was super tight, whole roads blocked off! A lot of Hawaii 5-0 looks like its the same, many of the streets should be much busier. It is cool seeing all these places I’ve been to a million times though.
A lot of people I know have seen/met tons of celebrities. I haven’t cause I never get outside. If I sat at the beach all day I’m sure I’d run into a ton!
Also lots of high SPF products and some quick, easy, light face products (mineral powder foundation, for example). But a warm weather/tropical vacation is where I break out glitter and sheen – for sure my TF Natural at Night eyeshadows (sultry and glittery), a highlighter or 2 or 3 and the brighter lipsticks I don’t wear quite so much in my daily life (MAC Impassioned, for example).
Cheek tint (Benefit Cha Cha Tint)
Lipbalm
Tinted moisturizer
sunscreen, lots of different bright lipsticks, glosses that contain spf, bronzer and waterproof mascara
Lots o’ lipsticks (especially the hot pinks, corals and oranges from Mac amplified line), some blushes, concealer, black eyeliner and mascara and UD Naked palette (in case I want a bronzey eye look)!!
Haha I live in a tropical environment (South Florida). But when I do travel, during the summer I make sure to load up on sunscreen, a light weight foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer, and other products that are long wearing & won’t melt off. And I’ve also been loving the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. I prefer to travel with those over lipstick during the summer.
This is great time! I’m going to Disney in a week and on a Caribbean cruise at the end of May. I might have to pick up some tinted moisturizer in place of liquid foundation. I don’t want to feel like I’m wearing heavy makeup. Plus I want to get some waterproof eyeliners… I know at least one brand came out with a set of them for this year but I can’t remember which one.
If it’s within your budget, consider UD 24/7 Waterproof liquid liner. I got it with a BoS, and I didn’t care for the brush, so I just put it aside. When I took my vacation to Disneyland last May, I couldn’t find my usual liner, so I tossed it in my bag. It held up through 90°+ F weather, countless runs on water rides, for over 12 hours. The rest of my makeup kept having to be touched-up, but not the liner.
Aside from body lotion, lip balm and sunscreen, I’d also bring these along:
Guerlain Chamade Rouge Automatique; MAC Beguile, Brushes, Fix +, Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage; NARS Deep Throat Blush and Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturizer; Urban Decay Naked Palettes
Here’s what I’m taking this summer for my vacation:
-Neutrogena spray sunscreen for body
-Osmotics age preventor extreme spf 45 for face & neck (since other kinds make me break out)
-Covergirl outlast foundation (it’s pretty hard core, and I can apply it lightly with a sponge)
-Estee Lauder double wear concealer
-Mally beauty waterproof shadow sticks (a few colors)
-Sephora jumbo liner 12hr waterproof stick in Taupe
-Le Metier de Beaute Melange de colour palette (for dinner & evening)
-L’Oreal voluminous waterproof mascara
-tinted lip balm with high spf- whatever I can find
I’m not big on hot tropical at all nor beachy touristy destinations. I would rather spend more time exploring in Europe in moderate temperatures. I never want to sweat as much again as I did in Hong Kong and Thailand. While they were lively and interesting places to visit, I’ve never been so uncomfortably hot in my life. When your boobs and ass sweat just basically breathing, it’s so not my thing. Makeup in these climes.. SPF and maybe a touch of mascara. The rest, forget it! It will just melt off anyway.
I´m with you on Europe over any tropical places, I love Europe and I´m all about ancient monuments, history, museums, exploring the strets of towns and villages like a local and visiting historical places. However there are few tropical destinations that are worth it, like the Mayan ruins and the Inca ruins in Latin America. I have been to the Mayan ruins and they were worth it, even though I was about to faint a few times because of the humid extremely hot weather, still worth and it wasn´t even Summer! But there are so many tropical destinations I couldn´t care about, that most of the time I would just choose Europe.
I’m going to Disney in a few weeks and I’ve actually been pondering this question. It should be pretty hot in Orlando in May!
– Neutrogena sunscreen, SPF 45
– Smashbox BB cream, SPF 35
– Smashbox Halo powder (for a little extra coverage)
– Urban Decay De-Slick setting spray
– Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Sticks (perfect for daytime eye looks). I probably will bring the colors Juju, Rehab, and Sin.
– Extra eyeliner – Urban Decay 24/7 (Bourbon and Zero)
– Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara (waterproof)
– Tarte Amazonian Clay blush (probably in my favorite color, Fearless)
– Mac blush (Small Vanity)
– One eyeshadow palette if I want a more complex look in the evening or a bit of color – Either the Bare Minerals Finer Things palette or the older Urban Decay Feminine palette.
– Sugar tinted lip balm
– Assorted lip glosses
Oh yeah, and concealer. I like to mix my Tarte illuminating wand with Mac Studio Fix concealer a touch lighter than my skin for brightening purposes.
I love wearing brights in hot climates! I keep the skin simple, either TM or something like MUFE Face and Body, then I like using bright eyeliners (UD Siren is a fave) and I also like a bright fuschia lip. I tan quickly, so I don’t put much on cheeks.
I also bring sunscreen, waterproof mascara and coral blush. I would add orange cream blush, some highlighter for cheekbones, green or turquoise eyeliner, orange, yellow and/or coral eye shadow, coral, orange and/or gold lipstick, coral gloss and some body shimmer. I’m just as much a maximalist at home as I am on vacation.
Neutral and glowing. Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation spf 42 (very water resistant), Paula’s Choice Barely There Sheer Matte Tint spf 30, Mac Sheertone Blush in Tenderling, Burberry Eyeshadow in Almond, Dior Amber Diamond, Burberry Lip Mist in Nude Peach, and Lancome Definicils Mascara.
– Mac Face & Body because it’s light coverage and super water resistant
– Mac Pro Longwear concealer for the same reason
– a waterproof mascara
Those 3 are my go to on humid/tropical countries. I swim with it without any trouble.
Then, if I feel crazy, I would choose a bright color tatoo for the evening and a cream blush : Optimistic Orange or Virgin island.
Extra Bonus : bright/neon polish
– La Roche Posay Sunscreen
– Shiseido Sheer Mat Compact Powder
– Waterproof Mascara
– The Balm Frat Boy blush
– Dior Addict Lipglow Balm
Sunscreen, light foundation, bronzer, lipcare, several lipsticks or glosses and a transparent powder. Of cause mascara for the evening. I am not a fan of wearing makeup at the beach.
Neither my hair nor my skin fare well in humid heat, so it’s not my preferred temperature range on the hole. I go very light on the makeup in strong heat – lots of sunblock, MAYBE tinted moisturizer, waterproof mascara, and a little concealer around the eyes. I don’t trust anything more! 😛
I would take sunscreen, hourglass primer, bare minerals matte foundation, lancome waterproof concealer, nars laguna/orgasm duo, urban decay waterproof liquid liners and shadow pencils in bright colors, armani waterproof black pencil, waterproof mascara, chanel glossimer in jalousie.
Sunscreen, about five lipsticks, one lipliner, one lipgloss, one black mascara, one blush, two or three perfume samples and my concelear.
Thats pretty much all I need and that what I used in my last vacation 🙂 .
I’m going to Hawaii this weekend. I’m bringing my Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer, MAC coral crepe paint pot, NARS orgasm illuminator, waterproof mascara and waterproof eyeliner, lipstick and a lip liner.
