Not at all. I have never really done much with my nails as RN’s were trained back in the day that we could not wear polish. I don’t believe that they teach that anymore or the nurses I know are not adhering to it.
I also tend to be a cuticle worrier, picking at them while doing other things and I am not even aware that I am doing it.
I worked Monday to Friday and Friday evening was my nail polish time. I love having nail polish on. Back then I had really short nails, of course, but having colours on them made me glad.
On Saturday mornings I had a riding lesson, so a lot of the time caring for a horse made the polish look worn and not so nice, but it didn’t matter as I was going to take it off on Sunday evening anyway.
As far as I know nurses are still taught to have short nails and no polish, next time I meet a student, I’ll ask. I must say I wouldn’t much like having a nurse with longer polished nails take care of my PICCLINE even though they use gloves. Maybe I’m just getting old. But I was taught, like you to have short clean nails.
I didn’t imagine that it had changed since the reason was one of hygiene and that hasn’t changed. I agree, I don’t want a nurse with long nails or fake nails on and I have seen them. When my mom was hospitalized for her stroke one of her nurses had these super long nails that would have precluded her from being able to do any actual physical care on my mom. I remember asking her how she managed to work with the nails and she said that the “aide” did the physical care! Times have changed, that is for sure. We were walking into the hospital when my brother, daughter and I passed the aide that had been assigned to my mom the day before. She stopped us to tell us that my mom was in atrial fibrillation and that the Doctor was going to start her on a blood thinner. As we walked away I looked at my brother and he knew I wasn’t happy. The more I think about it the more I think I need to move, LOL!
I find great joy in looking down at my hands and seeing color on my nails. They aren’t fancy or long (I can’t stand the feeling of long nails), so they’re cut shorter than the finger itself, smoothed, and polished once a week, usually with a bright or dramatic polish. (This week, it’s something from Clionadh’s stained glass collection, which my spouse gifted me last year.)
I had amazing nails after years of biting them and giving it up, and then I switched from clear to pink on OPI’s nail straightener and it absolutely destroyed them. I’m still trying to get them back to what they were, but they keep splitting.
So now I’m just babying them with Hard As Hoof every day and trusted nail polish brands once a month.
Do you think Hard as Hoof helps? I have a jar, but haven’t tested it yet.
I had a nail strengthener Rejuvacote that worked well for me. I was going to repurchase, it’s about $30 I think, the postage was around $50 and there’s no way I would ever pay that much for a nail polish even if it did do it’s job.
I’m now trying Essie Hard to Resist in violet, but it’s nowhere near as good.
I thought OPI would be a good one, but strengthening nails seem to be very individual.
I have tried loads of products that’s not worked.
My cuticles used to be horrible but they have gotten so much better since I started using cuticle oil as part of my bedtime routine approx a year ago. I have also started to clip off some of the dry skin, something I learned at the nailsalon. I think it’s easier now that my cuticles is better moisturized. I also use nailfile more often to achieve a nicer shade of nails instead of clipping only. Using hand cream, nailpolish etc. is the same as ever.
Life BEFORE the pandemic saw me keeping up with mani’s and pedi’s year-round, with pedi’s reserved for mainly March till October, months where I would be wearing sandals.
Now? It’s just trimming and filing my nails. Haven’t done nail polish except for several times since the lockdown began up to currently. Saddest part? I have at least 100+ nail polishes! š
Interesting question ! I havenāt had a manicure since early 2020 before we all hunkered down for the Pandemic. I got out of the habit . I just do my own filing and use the Essie āHard to Resistā in the pink and purple tints. Last pedicure way back then this place damaged my big toe and itās so ugly I donāt wear open toe shoes very often .
Generally I don’t use nail polish a lot and that hasn’t changed in the past five years. I always use a nail oil and nail strengthener to help maintain my nails, but that is usually it.
Not really, it’s still a question of getting stronger nails as mine, without outside help gets weak, they peel, and they just split very easily.
Now my last strengthener that worked suddenly had a postage of around $50 I just couldn’t imagine paying around $80 for a nail product, so I’m right now trying ESSIE Gard to Resist, but it’s nowhere near as good.
When I still used Rejuvacote my nails were really nice, but the cost is just ridiculous. I hope ESSIE will deliver.
I love long nails, not the really long but about 3-4 mm above the fingertips.
