I miss Presciptives all the time even though I’m sure we have much better now. I remember the late late 90s or perhaps 2000 (maybe as late as 2001) when they were some of the 1st to come out w/ a line of products to make skin luminous, ethereal, highlighted in a subtle way even though 1 or 2 products were so similar to Strobe Cream which so few loved much back then. The miserable woman at the counter told me it’s all for people with “perfect skin,” not for me, when I asked. I was like 20! Jerk. 😂

Is Inglot actually still around? This is a tough one but I’d say it’s a toss up between Cargo (their Blu-ray concealer was the BEST concealer I’d ever found) and BECCA. I can’t help but wonder how many other brands are destined to bite the dust fairly soon.

….and I remember Max Factor Erase stick concealer (in the early 60’s, we used it as lipstick); also they made the first stick lipgloss; I remember it cost $3.95, which seemed a huge sum for me, as a very young teen/pre-teen but I loved it – it had a natural tint and was worth me dipping into my babysitting money to buy.

Definitely miss the old Urban Decay but I guess that doesn’t count. XD

Misa had some gorgeous nail polish colors but I don’t think they’re doing much if anything these days. I also really miss Elizabeth and James and Stella McCartney perfume, they had some beautiful fragrances. Fusion Beauty was always quite expensive but I felt like their lip plumping products worked (temporarily) without the stinging or burning of the other products on the market at the time (Lip Venom, Lip Injection).

Marc Jacobs also…..their Omega single eyeshadows were fantastic….I’ve scrounged ebay and sites and have several backups…especially “the perfect O” which I use daily as a base color…it is so opaque and the perfect nude for my coloring…Also a shout out to Burberry…their single eyeshadows were also great and I will be sad when mine finally hit pan!

Marc Jacobs beauty, absolutely! Slow Burn lip creme, One Mauve Time lip gloss, eyeshadow palettes, and powder products (bronzer, setting powder).. I completely agree with you, Christine!

I have to agree with Marc Jacobs. I have several of the eyeliners which were wonderful but when they reformulated the liners they dried out too fast. I wish they had left them alone. They might still be around if they did. I also have a couple of their potted eye shadows, oh what were they called? They were great one and done shades.
I also miss Becca and Bite Beauty. Why do brands mess with success. When you do something well you don’t need to update the formula. Just give us new colors!

Mariella Avatar

Good question about “messing with success” – so many brands that are still around (maybe hanging on by the skin of their teeth) have also done this – UD, Dior (with its newest shadow palettes and the formerly wonderful Rosy Glow blush), MAC….and why not “stick with winners” – re-release or make permanent really coveted products like MAC Moth Brown eyeshadow (and so many others)? Maybe the recipe for success is “give the people what they really want” (from some of their stellar LE releases) and “if it ain’t broke…”

Revo. They created my favourite lip balms and had fun seasonal collections that made a tough time in my life after all assault bearable because it made me happy knowing someone was out there creating happiness, and then they were sued by EOS and basically disappeared.

The brand that I miss the most is the original Bite Beauty lipsticks. Radish was one that I wore regularly because it was PERFECT for my skin coloring., but I liked their deep burgundy color (forgot the name) as well, and I liked their clear waxy lip liner that kept the colors from running away from my lips.

I was going to agree with you about Marc Jacobs, Christine, until I saw someone else mentioned Prescriptives. I can’t believe I forgot about them, because I used Prescriptives starting in college, up until I saw Leslie Blodgett in an infomercial around 2005, or so. After that I was all about Bareminerals for years. But Prescriptives was the first brand I encountered who matched base products to my skin undertone perfectly.

MUFE bought out some fabulous eyeshadows in their day that I missed – like the Nudes You Need palette.
Tarina Tarantino – her gorgeous jewelled eyeshadows

Brands that use to be great, but now aren’t: UD and bareMinerals with their Ready eyeshadow formula. Seriously miss that.

Mariella Avatar

Once again, we are thinking alike. Oh, those bareMinerals Ready shadows were/are so good. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get my mitts on a few more shade assortments. And Tarina Tarantino….sigh! I’ve only got the Emerald Pretty and Dreamy Jewel palettes from the brand but why, oh why, did they have to disappear? It’s getting harder and harder to find products I actually WANT to buy (of course, if Sydney Grace was available in-store, this wouldn’t be quite the issue – there are so many singles from SG that call my name; problem is 1. the shipping/exchange and 2. I tend to want colours that are almost all the same!)

LQ seems to be ‘on the bubble.’ Poppy’s eponymous original range (7 deadly sins, awesome) was a Barney’s exclusive, iirc. Strictly high end. Then Poppy King re-emerged as LQ. Always adored her products. After LQ was gone from Ulta, it still was on SpaceNK. Odd, considering SNK is very HE. I associate SNK with the brands that Bloomingdale’s has in store. Now it seems remaindered off to places like Walmart and Amazon. LQ was acquired by Forma and that augurs poorly for any brand, including Morphe and Ariana’s REM. At this point, I would avoid any saints, sinners, frog princes, chessmen, black lace rabbits,(loooove), or rear view mirrors you might wish to replace. I would not be surprised to see Poppy rise from the ashes again. Even her product names were fun and totally non-offensive.

I really began paying attention to beauty community online around the time that Bite reformulated into their vegan series. I had gotten one of their original liquid lips, but never got a chance to try out some of the bullet lipsticks.

Jill Stuart US closing down hurts my heart. They discontinued their overseas website this summer. They’re still very active in Japan, but getting their new releases is very difficult.

Annihilated or permanently damaged if I’m allowed to comment on that here. It’s still very sad. That’s why I hope all goes well for Melt Cosmetics since I’ve seen major changes from about 2014 / 2015 up until now.
