We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

My only “engagement” is here at Temptalia and at MakeupAlley. I find the information I get in both locations to be really helpful and the personal engagement here at Temptalia is actually really special to me – the ability to ask questions (I’m not keen on the “boards” at MUA) of others here and get to “know” them and a bit about their lives – it it makes this a very special place.
Yes to everything that you’ve mentioned – we wouldn’t have ‘met’ unless there was this site and learnt that we are makeup twins!
Absolutely! We’re half a world away and yet I feel so close to you – not just as makeup twins but also, our lives seem to have run along such similar paths. I hope one day that you head north or we head south (I’ve always wanted to visit New Zealand and I know it’s REALLY far from Aus, though to many in the N. Hemisphere, it seems close) and I fear I may be getting too old for such distant travels, you just never know!!!!
In light of Christine’s recent announcement, I’ve been thinking of the 10 or a dozen people here who I feel I’ve come to “know” I guess because they are “regulars” (makeup addicts?) and talk about their families, where they live, health issues, etc. This site is so much more than “merely” a makeup site.
I follow a few perfume communities, like Fragrantica and Basenotes, but Temptalia is the only beauty-related community that I’m actually engaged with. I love the comments section and the questions and surveys. I find that being part of the Temptalia community and being able to read and respond to other members’ thoughts and opinions really enhances my experience.
Less engagement when it’s chat-based/live. I think face-to-face conversation would fix a lot of the negatives of chat if you know what I mean. More engagement when it’s specialty forums (exchange of information) and reading comments on reviews. I like reading the questions and surveys, too. I always thought it was cool when the blogger reads comments and even responds! (I feel bad when fans or readers pressure the blogger to post more or respond)
I’ve never been involved with the beauty community in social media/youtube. Temptalia(‘s Discord Server) is the sole way online I interact with other makeup enthusiasts. Getting used to familiar faces and being able to exchange feedback on different looks/techniques in real time is very valuable, and the community there is super supportive.
I totally feel that! For me, sometimes seeing something fun and new can really re-spark my creative side! Too much and it can make me compare myself to full blown photo shoots and think too much on others’ input on what is really for me 🙂
Temptalia is the only beauty related community i am engaged with. Love the comments section, the surveys and questions. It is a special place for me.
I mostly engage with beauty creators in my home country (which are quite small due to language barriers) or with regular people in communities like Temptalia, so for me it’s enjoyable. I just don’t get engaged with the famous beauty gurus and bigger communities like Sephora forums, I tried a long time ago and that wasn’t fun at all.
Worse, when the engagement is in the “mainstream” realm of megainfluencers who filter, misrepresent, and lie. I do enjoy interacting with content creators who have integrity, such as yourself, Jude Chao (aka Fifty Shades of Snail), Dr. Michelle Wong (Lab Muffin), etc. and other like-minded commenters!
Like Mariella, my makeup ‘twin’ – my only ‘engagement’ is here at Temptalia. I have found that what I enjoy most is the online community that has been created here. I do really enjoys the surveys, the Friday Finds and Weekend Plans to ‘chat’ with other members of our community and share the key elements of our lives.
I have learnt a great deal about makeup since joining this site and like most of us here, have purchased wisely, thanks to your timely and thorough reviews.
More enjoyment and knowledge lol. I’ve learned so much from Temptalia, Makeup Alley, YouTube, Reddit, etc. It’s helpful to learn techniques, product comparisons, other people’s experiences, etc. : )
The bulk of my beauty info and engagement happens right here on Temptalia where there’s also been friendships that have developed with others who also love makeup. Especially since I don’t really have any local friends or family that have any interest in it. The one person who does, moved to Ohio. And one who used to just isn’t into it like before the pandemic after her job became a “work remotely from home” situation, like so many others. Perhaps now that she’s back to the office….? 🤷🏻♀️
There’s always so much d r a m a within the beauty community! I used to love watching all of the YouTube “beauty gurus” and sometimes I still watch a few for fun (Robert Welsh comes to mind!). But I don’t subscribe to them anymore. This is honestly my favorite place to engage. I can comment and read others’ comments and be on my way.
This is the only beauty community I’m engaged with. Reading posts here, reviews, surveys and anything that appears on this site is very enjoyable.
A long time ago I watched you tubers and read some other blogs. I found so many just adding to the hype, and actually lying, and that was bad for my economy and it also made me feel as if I had no idea how to use stuff as simple as eyeshadows. 😀
I’ve not been on the Temptalia Discord, unfortunately I rarely have time for more online presence.
I have only recently started to engage, and now I really enjoy it! For many years, I would not dare to subscribe to Youtube channels, like or comment because there was something intimidating in it being public. Then I gradually started doing these step-by-step and now commenting feels natural and enjoyable, and now I also understand how important engagement is for content creators. I follow youtubers that typically have up to 20k subs; so them it matters!
I also really enjoy reading what others here at Temptalia respond in Surveys. It gives a healthy perspective and helps balance out the unrealistic view of Youtube and Instagram, which normalizes buying new makeup all the time. Seeing that other beauty enthusiasts here do not necessarily jump at every release, but instead actually finish products or maybe just have a few go-to makeup items that stay the same year after another, is grounding amidst the constant flow of new releases on Instagram and Youtube.
I should add that beauty has been interest of mine for more than two decades, but I have never had people around me who would share my love for makeup. Let’s face it, makeup can still be perceived as something that only superficial people would be interested in. My social surroundings at work and circle of friends consists of academically educated women with professional ambitions and while this should not conflict with interest in beauty, for some reason, they never talk about beauty, almost if it’s a tabu. Or are we just way too emancipated to express any interest in our looks, although it’s obvious people get their hair dyed etc.? As a gay woman, many people in my community also have different aesthetics (I love queer aesthetics on other people) and especially in the past I have felt insecure within my community because of my mainstream, “heteronormative” looks (long hair, makeup, nailpolish, sometimes dresses, skirts and highheels). Let me be clear, though, in the society by far and large, life is easier for people who “fit in” so I am aware of my privileges as white CIS woman. Nevertheless the online community really is the only place where I can be vocal about my love for makeup and share my passion with other beauty enthusiasts, completely free of the different types of social constraints I otherwise feel in my daily surroundings!
Very well said LK, thank you! I’ve been reading this blog for years, and then it took me a few more years to get up the courage to create an account and overhaul my makeup, skincare routine and techniques (getting older kinda forces us to do that lol). I’m always learning tips, recs, etc, from this site and the few YT’s that I watch. It’s also a treat to see how everyone else in the community is doing, and how times change our approaches to life and makeup. I work a lot of hours so it’s relaxing to catch up here and think about do I really need a new product, or can I make something I have be used in a different way. : )
