Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Two Giorgio Armani blushes, Haus Labs Lavender Blonde blush

Weekend plans: Busy, busy! I have to finish editing some photos as well as catch up on a few reviews, but I started fostering a mom and her 11 pups on Wednesday of this past week. They’re about 7 days old now!

What do you do on really hot days? When it’s really hot, like now (115+ degrees), just stay inside and hope the AC doesn’t give up. It’s also imperative to drink lots and lots of cool fluids throughout the day, especially if one goes out! We had misters installed last weekend to help combat some of the intense heat, particularly for the dogs and puppies.

Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:

  • Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
  • Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
  • Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
  • Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)

This week's doggo photo/video...

Recent purchases: a Viori shampoo bar (I got this a couple of weeks ago and forgot to add it to last Friday’s or the Friday before’s update); I’m finding a bit of the learning curve regarding how to use it but I LOVE the results so far; I’m from Rice facial toner – I’ve been interested in it for a while but once the price dropped significantly in those Amazon Prime Days, I got a bottle and I really like it a LOT)

Weekend plans: we just finished dinner – went out to celebrate Bastille Day, the day hubs and I met while going to school in the south of France. I want to sew the dress I just cut out for my grand-daughter (hoping I can get it finished in a day), gym tomorrow and Sunday, laundry (I have a load in now) and some cooking.

What do I do on really hot days? I loathe the heat and where I live, the heat is accompanied by humidity (the dreaded Humidex, summer counterpart of Windchill) , which makes it even more insufferable. I stay inside (we replaced our furnace and A/C system a year ago, knock wood) and I’ll often go to the basement, where it’s even cooler. And I drink a LOT of water.

Geez, I forgot TWO great finds today at Winners – a tube of MAC Dallas lipstick (Amplified Cream – my favourite MAC formula) for $9.99 (it’s $27 CDN on MAC’s website and I fear it too might be discontinued soon) and a 2 oz. tube of Perricone MD Easy Rinse Makeup Removing Cleanser for a mere $6.99 (it’s $15.99 US on the brand’s website)

Genevieve Avatar

You find some great bargains at Winners and I can see that the Dallas lipstick would suit you with your dark hair, plus all the other goodies that you get.
A shampooing bar is something to get use to and I got one for my DIL to use on my grandsons’ hair – she found it to be really good too.
How did Jemma’s birthday party go? I bet she was overwhelmed by all the attention and the presents!
At least in all of the heat and humidity you are experiencing, your car will be a blessed relieft!

Mariella Avatar

Thanks for asking, friend! The parties (there was a funny second one on her actual birthday but it was smaller – just the grand parents and one couple and their 2 kids who couldn’t be at the big party) – anyway, both where a success and Jemma enjoyed both. She wasn’t quite sure what to do with her “smash cake” (this is all so new to me – no such things when mine were little) but she was in a great mood all day, in spite of the # of people and the jolly chaos.

I popped into Winners yesterday again to pick up the bottle of MAC Fix+ Rose that I’d seen there the day before and hesitated about. I’m not a massive fan of Fix+ but did really like the rose scented one which was – wait for it…..DISCONTINUED!!!! But I found one bottle of it there for 1/3 the original price!!! There really are some great prices on great products.

…oh, and I was amazed to see a few Colour Pop single eyeshadows (only one colour and not a shade that I liked) and cream shadows there. I thought the brand was strictly “online only” but lo’ and behold, there were a few strays!

Awww Christine …you are an Angel…seriously …those puppies are so cute and Momma looks like she’s settling in nicely.
Here in Victoria BC doesn’t get too hot in the Summer , in the upper 70’s here now ..
We attended a baseball game earlier this week and are going to dinner and a comedy show tonight …..
A movie tomorrow…
Recent purchases ? Lawless “Skip the Plumper” creme lipstick.I just got it so haven’t had a chance to try it out yet.

Nothing! Too hot!
What I do on hot day
I have MS and when we are in 105+, I hydrate and enjoy our a/c. When I do go out, I having cooling things

brendacr1 Avatar

Oh my gosh! Christine! You’re going to have such an amazing adventure with Bailey and her pups!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: nothing this week

Weekend plans: We start our vacation next Friday so I’m in full packing mode. Otherwise hubby is doing yard work (I’ve injured my foot so I can’t help lol!) and working on the fence.

What do you do on really hot days? I feel lucky that we are getting a nice warm summer, I could do summer 365 days a year, I hate snow. We don’t have a/c so I have a fan on each floor and when it gets unbearable I put them on. I also have the furnace fans on bringing the cool air up from the basement which is quite effective.

Thank you Genevieve, we are heading to the west coast Vancouver area, our niece and her husband will be there from New Zealand. We haven’t seen them for 5 years so it will be a nice visit. I’m so glad your new grandbaby is thriving! Such good news that your sister is doing well.

Genevieve Avatar

Christine, you and Shaun are doing a fabulous job fostering puppies and now a mother with her brood. Mumma is looking relaxed and more tranquil now that she is sensing that she is in a happy household that will take care of her and her babies. She looks like a lovely dog too.

Recent Purchases: Nada
Rediscoveries: Using my SG singles that I have in a magnetic palette and every single week I find I am using On the Horizons – such a stunning palette.

Weekend Plans: It’s been a very hectic week in our household. Most days I have been going over to my son and DIL’s place to help out – pick up the older two from school, fold washing, hold the baby – Charlotte is doing amazingly well and is putting on weight, look after Harry for the day etc.
In between times I have been cooking them some meals and sorting my own house out.
On Friday (yesterday), I went out with my former teaching colleagues for a get together – we meet up every couple of months and it is fabulous. We always have lots to talk about and get along well together. No wonder our school was fantastic then.
Happy Bastille Day to those who celebrate – it was also my son and DIL’s 11th Wedding anniversary.
This weekend we are going to have Lachlan – my eldest son has bought him a great big Lego set for him to make up and I am going to take him out tomorrow.
Another set of happy news – my twin sister has finished her ray treatment. Her boob is fairly sore at the moment and she is still suffering from fatigue from her bought of COVID, but otherwise getting better and feeling stronger.

What do I do on really hot days? Like many of us here, I loathe and sometimes fear summer for what it can bring: hot winds, high humidity and infernal heat – plus bushfires. I have read that many parts of Canada and US have suffered from huge bushfires and my heart goes out to those affected.
On really hot days we have the a/c on and hunker down, or I go to the local pool.

Mariella Avatar

Such good news about your twin sister, Genevieve!!! I hope she gets her energy and well-being back soon! And your son and daughter in law are so lucky to have you to pitch in. What I wouldn’t have given for that sort of help when I had my little ‘uns.

As you know, I think Mama Bailey has the most amazing shiny tiger stripe coat! Bailey is a regal BEAUTY! And her babies are so beyond cute! Three brindles, too. With Pimms and Kahlua being the most noticeable.

Purchases/rediscoveries: Nothing except for new 520 TC cotton sateen sheets and some new clothes for my upcoming convention next month.
Haven’t worn makeup all week because I have a very bad summer cold which has been wreaking havoc with my asthma.

Weekend plans: Rest, stay indoors, eat and drink hot fluids to help clear my bronchial tubes. Zoom meeting tomorrow morning. Even if I wasn’t so sick, I would still stay home in the AC cooled space. No pool for me!

What do you do when it’s very hot? Stay inside, if possible. Hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE!!! Too many people underestimate the sometimes deadly toll that very high temperatures can place on the body. RN? I am feeling very worried about the Phoenix metro area’s huge homeless population. Hopefully, they’re being placed in air conditioned shelters that also provide plenty of Gatorade/Powerade and water.

Bailey and the puppies are adorable!

Recent Purchases: Ole Henriksen Dewtopia (to replace the one I just finished). Also, Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation, which I’m going to return because it settles in my creases and the sides of my nose and looks cakey all over within two hours. I tried it several ways, but it doesn’t hold up like Estée Lauder Double Wear. Every now and then I try a new foundation, but I always come back to ELDW. Also got a decant of Mitsouko…I don’t like it.

Weekend Plans: Visiting family and trying to relax.

What do you do on really hot days? Stay inside!

Genevieve Avatar

It’s awful when you have high hopes for a foundation and it turns out to look pretty crappy on you. That’s why I stick to L’Oreal’s True Match – it never looks bad on me. I guess ELDW is the one for you.
I hope you do get to relax this weekend.

Recent Purchases: Nothing this week!

Rediscoveries: Honestly, this week has been a blur and I’m on autopilot; nothing comes to mind.

Weekend plans: Our dishwasher broke a couple weeks ago, damaging our lower cabinets, so in the midst of working with insurance and contractors, we’re going to the hardware store to look at some things to update our kitchen… not the push we wanted, and it’s been very stressful and has sort of messed up the summer plans, but it will be nice when everything is finally done…. Who knows when that will be?

What do you do on really hot days?

Genevieve Avatar

What an absolute pain in the….neck for you! Especially when the d/w wrecked your cabinets. That is a major fix and an expensive one too. I hope the insurance co. you are with come on board – sometimes they can really drag their heels. And it can take forever too. Best wishes Celesta!

Mama doggy looks like such a sweetheart, and the babies are darling. ❤️❤️❤️

RECENT PURCHASES: My most recent was a few weeks ago from a ColourPop sale. I got the lavender 9-pan + highlighter, and a few Lux Lipsticks.

WEEKEND PLANS: Not much until hubby gets my brake pads changed this weekend. Of course, his car chose yesterday for his car battery to completely die, and we’re having difficulty finding a replacement. That leaves his old pickup.

It’ll be hot this weekend, so mostly staying inside with the AC and away from the pollen.
My son’s GF and I will watch YouTube and crochet. She’s making a lovely plush blanket for my son, and I’m making a beautiful shawl with a skull motif (The Lost Souls Triangular Shawl by Maryetta Roy on Etsy.)

I also have to do some paperwork for my job, and do some laundry.

WHAT DO YOU DO ON REALLY HOT DAYS?

Stay inside with the AC as much as possible and drink lots of water. My son’s GF and I will watch YouTube and crochet.

Genevieve Avatar

What a bummer that both of your cars are out of action at once! What a darn nuisance (hopefully not an expensive one either!)
How lovely that both you and your son’s GF have such a great relationship and can work together on a craft project.
Take care in that awful heat you are experiencing Rachel – I’ve read that it’s pretty bad.
