I rarely wear ordinary mascara (black,, in my case) so haven’t used coloured mascara in decades and decades, but if coloured mascaras were a bit more ubiquitous, I’d be happy to try a navy or purple/plum mascara just for the heck of it.

I don’t wear mascara a ton, maybe once or twice a week, I have very sensitive eyes so I get my lashes tinted instead. However, when I do wear mascara I quite often wear a burgundy shade! I’ll either wear it on its own or on top of brown. Most people don’t even notice it’s a color, their eyes just kind of read it as brown, but it makes my hazel eyes really pop! It works well for green-hazel-brown eyes.

I think that colored mascara can be the look, or it can be used to compliment eye color. YSl and DIor used to have great colored mascaras.

Like some of the others who have commented, I don’t wear mascara on a daily basis, in my case because I’m disabled and don’t go out much. But I had some lovely aubergine Diorshow mascara in my late 20s/early 30s that I just adored. It wasn’t bright or really obvious unless someone got close and really examined my eyes, but it really did make my green eyes pop, even with relatively minimal eye makeup. I have really pale skin, and black mascara can feel a bit harsh when I’m just wearing very minimal makeup. (Purple is also my favorite color, so it made me happy just to wear it. 🥰) I can’t say I’m wild about the neon lash colors I’ve seen, though… they just look odd to me. Maybe I’ll get used to the look after a while, or maybe I’m just getting old and having trouble dealing with change!

I saw that L’Oréal has brought out two new colored mascaras, though, one being purple, and I won’t lie, I had it in my cart. But I don’t even wear the mascara I do have, so I figured I should at least wait for a decent sale. 😅

I have a blue (purple deep blue in actually color) mascara by T.LeClerc that I could wear everyday. It’s the perfect mascara to bring out my rabbit brown eye color. I don’t think they make it any longer. So I really would like to find a similar quality replacement. So to answer, how do I use them, I use colored mar card to accentuate my eye color (bring that Star Trek soft women halo to my face, ha!) and to accentuate what I’m wearing if it’s a formal occasion (rare at the moment).
