Do you ever just play around with makeup?
I used to, even if only a few times a month, but I definitely have been less in the mood to play and more to just make sure I am testing what I need for reviews lately.

It feels like I spend more time playing around with makeup than I do actually putting on makeup for any particular reason. I work remotely and my circle stays pretty small. While the makeup I usually do isn’t the most flattering, I am more conscious of wanting it to look good so I lose out a bit on the “play” aspect when I know I’ll be seen.
Sure! Its fun! Usually when I’m just going shopping or doing errands and don’t really care if everything is perfect I like to try new techniques or color stories just for the fun of it. I like to save tried and true for when perfection (ha!) is more important.
Not really anymore. The pandemic lockdown put a quash on that for me. Not immediately, but when it got to the 18+ month mark, I began to slow down.
Unfortunately, no. I would love to set aside some “me time” and just experiment. I want to try some eye shadow looks or work on my cat eye skills but it’s difficult with kids in the house. But now that I think about it, I will make a greater effort.
Probably the only time I play is when I swatch lipsticks after getting them. I’ve tried playing with eye looks but it just ends up frustrating me because more often than not, I find it looks muddy or too sparkly or the colors clash. I’ve gotten pretty good at picking out blush and lipsticks to go with my tried and true eyeshadow looks so if I were to play, that’s where it would come in – novel choices for lipstick or blush. I don’t like having to redo an eye look.

I used to 😭 at some point I got caught up in “ugh my skin doesn’t look very good right now, what’s the point of doing makeup if it’s not going to look good,” etc. …as if I can’t just put on makeup without it being seen by anyone else?? Maybe I should resolve to put some on tomorrow, even though I know it’ll look bad, just to get back into the swing of things.
Yes! Sometimes I try color combos I don’t necessarily know will work yet, or a new eyeliner style (I never wear top liner so it’s fun to try something crazy), or lipstick that is not something I’d usually wear out.
Not really – with my fourth grandchild due any day now, I am pretty busy looking after the others at various times, so I don’t get the time to do that anymore.
Besides, I wear makeup every single day and I try to rotate my lippies and eye palettes as I go – so that is playing around for me.
A lot less, but every blue moon, just for me, yes!
