Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Tom Ford quads, which won’t be here until next week!
Weekend plans: I’m volunteering for a mobile spay/neuter clinic that is going to be at the rescue I volunteer with for a few hours this weekend… I will find out if I am squeamish, LOL. Otherwise, I will probably take some photos and write reviews, but there wasn’t that much that released this week!
What are you looking forward to in May? Mother’s Day, since we will see our families! I’m also excited to see my foster pups really develop into real dogs!
Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:
- Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
- Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
- Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
- Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)
This week's doggo photo/video...

I’m thrilled the steaklets are doing so well and are getting great homes. Good luck with the mobile clinic!
RECENT PURCHASES:
I got the Melt Cosmetics Monarcha Blush Palette using the Sephora sale discount in top of the marked down price. That was it. My husband surprised me by saying the pinky-coral shade in it was pretty, so that’s the first shade I’ll try.
WEEKEND PLANS: We picked up the last kit for our airplane this morning!
Tomorrow, we’re taking my younger son and his GF to a plant sale and garden expo in Salem, as his GF has been getting into gardening.
Sunday, we may help my friend’s daughters move some furniture to their new apartment. I’m waiting to hear for sure.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN MAY?
May 31, hubby and I are taking our younger son and his GF to the Duran Duran concert in Seattle. We’ll spend a couple extra days, as his GF has never been to Seattle. We’ll visit the Chihuly glassworks and museum, and the Aquarium, and maybe take a little cruise if the weather starts behaving. It’ll be nice to have a mini vacation and spend time with the kids. (My older son’s issues currently have him in high sensory sensitivity mode, so he declined this trip.)
Those Steaklets sure have grown quite a bit! Skirt looks so Husky that I now deeply regret not putting in an adoption request for her, as I doubt anyone would question it if when I was asked I stated “She’s a Husky mix!”
Purchases/rediscoveries: Placed 3 separate orders (WHY???) with Sephora. 1.) The Ordinary Multi Peptides w/HA Serum, 2.) Tower 28 It’s A Mauve-ment Cream Blush and Lipgloss duo, 3.) Haus Labs Dragon Fruit Daze blush and pH D Lip Oil in Tint (okay, so this one happened Wednesday night when I couldn’t sleep!). Not so sure what I was thinking….
Weekend plans: Zoom meeting tomorrow morning and if I’m up to it, there’s a Congregation picnic in the afternoon.
What are you looking forward to in May? Hopefully lower pollen counts! The Valley has ridiculously high pollen counts this year with Peoria and Glendale topping the list. Which would explain why I cannot keep a single eye look intact, now wouldn’t it?
Recent purchases/Rediscoveries: I used to hate L’Oreal’s Peach Fuzz, thinking it was too light and frosty for my complexion. Recent photos where I was using it as a nude lip suggests my impression was incorrect, so perhaps I’ll use it more this summer. I am not generally a fan of frosted lipsticks, but I do think they can look nice with a bronzed natural face.
Weekend Plans: A close friend has been going through a nasty divorce and recently moved into her own place, so I need to marshall my troops and see about picking up/transporting her dresser to the new apartment. Otherwise, it’ll be a quiet weekend.
What are you looking forward to in May? My middle kid just had a birthday, so we celebrated that! Otherwise, it’ll be a quiet month — youngest has her dance at the end of May, but we already have the dress and shoes so that’s settled.
Wonderful activity. These babies are much bigger than I initially thought. My daught worked in rescue for our city kennel but had to stop fostering because she adopted every fostered dog!
Oh my! Haven’t they all grown up! They are so gorgeous and look like they are full of energy and want to play. They are very lucky to be in such a good home as yours.
Recent Purchases: My CP lipstick Party Mix has arrived and it is a beauty. I love it and have been wearing it ever since I got it.
Rediscoveries: Still using a lot of Pixi Beauty’s Reflex Light and SG Temptalia’s On the Horizon Light.
Weekend Plans: I have been spending a lot of time reviewing the online car market looking for a replacement to my Honda Jazz that was written off in a collision a couple of weeks ago. I am haggling with the Claims Assessor over the market value of my car. There isn’t any cars of my make and model around in my state and the only ones available are more updated model that are more expensive that the price I have been offered. The haggle will continue next week.
My twin sister has been readmitted to hospital with an infection surrounding her wound from the lumpectomy. They have drained more than a litre of fluid from the wound and she is currently on an antibiotic drip. In addition to that, the oncologist is undecided as whether she undergoes chemo and then ray treatment or just ray treatment. There is a test that can be done, but not in Australia (why?). It costs $5000 and it can only be done in the States….She has agreed to the test.
Other than seeing my sister, nothing much is planned for this weekend.
Looking forward to in May: Mother’s Day – I am thinking of hosting a High Tea at our place, which is more practical with all of the children – although it does mean a fair bit of work for me.
And hopefully, crossing fingers, a new car. I am so tired of having my husband as a chauffeur and listening to his choice of music….. I hate driving his car.
Between your poor sister developing a post-op infection and now needing to travel for one very expensive test far away and then your ordeal with your insurance company trying to low-ball with the replacement vehicle, I sure will keep you in my prayers Genevieve! I feel so bad for you and your sister right now. 🙏🏼🫂🙏🏼
Thank you Nancy – Now my twin sister has caught covid from the hospital and has been really ill with it. The doctors are currently deciding whether to give her antivirals or not. It may interfere with the high dosage of antibiotics that she is on to clear up the infection in her wound.
Unfortunately my son Nicholas and grand daughter Olivia visited her on Saturday afternoon and now suspect that Olivia has covid too.
Nicholas is changing jobs next week and they had booked for a weekend away in the city…..so they are hoping that no-one else gets covid, especially Anika – as she is heavily pregnant and Nicholas because of his heart reactions to the virus. Your prayers are much needed Nancy and thank you.
I had to drive my husband’s car when he took mine for a golfing holiday in March and I also hated it. Cars these days have so much technology and I hated having to get used to the differences in his car – how the shifter works, how the wipers work (the exact opposite of those in my car). Two weeks ago, he had a loaner (a newer version of his car) and he offered for me to drive it and it was even WORSE than his own car – the parking brake was actually a button, the backup camera had a split screen with an animated picture of the entire car with the doors open – it was just insane.
More importantly, I am so sorry to read about your sister’s set-back. This must be so upsetting to you and your whole family.
Yep, I loathe driving my husband’s car and my son’s too for that matter. All the controls are so different that it freaks me out. And I can understand how you felt about driving your husband’s car too.
Allison has just caught covid in the hospital and has had a tough time of it. Luckily she is in the best place to monitor her symptoms. Her vomiting has played havoc with her sugar levels (she is a diabetic) and they are still draining fluid from her wound.
As I said to Nancy above, my son and grand daughter visited her just before she was diagnosed with covid. Olivia is currently home sick with a cough and sore throat, which is probably covid. I’ve yet to hear if she is positive yet.
With her mother pregnant and due to give birth in early July and her father, who has reacted badly to the virus in the past, it’s just another level of anxiety for us at the moment.
In the middle of this, I have battled unsuccessfully with the Claims Assessor on the value of a replacement car – there are just none around in our state of my make, model, odometer etc to purchase, so we have to dip into our savings to replace my car. Not ideal.
The car replacement thing is a real pain in the backside but it pales in comparison to your sister’s health issues and the spider-web of people who may have been infected by her having COVID (just what she doesn’t need right now). My husband also contracted COVID back in 2020 while he was in hospital. This was before vaccines have even been developed . It was right around Christmas time and he brought it home to me as a belated Xmas present!!!
I’m sorry to hear about your sister’s infection, and the hassle with the test she needs.
Dealing with car insurance is no fun. I hope you get what your car is worth.
The issue is Rachel that the price I have been given by the Claims Assessor is a fair price, but there is absolutely no similar make and models out in the retail marketplace like my old car available. The Honda Jazzes are either too old or much newer (and more expensive). We will have to dip into our savings to purchase a car, which is not what we wanted to do – after all, the collision was not my fault.
To top it off, Allison has covid now (she caught it in the hospital) and there is a problem with giving her antivirals with the antibiotics she is having for her wound infection (which is considerable). A decision will be made today. Her persistant vomiting last Saturday and Sunday has made her sugar levels drop alarminglyy (she is a diabetic) and that’s been a cause for concern as well.
Thank you for your good wishes Rachel, it is greatly appreciated.
Best to your sister for her upcoming test.
Thank you Sarah, I will pass it onto her. Now she has covid, and has been vomiting and that has badly affected her sugar levels (she is a diabetic) and that has worried the nursing staff too. She has been pretty crook with it.
The doctors are worried about giving her the antivirals, thinking that it may affect the antibiotics that she has been having for her wound infection. It’s a catch 22.
Ok, that pup is adorable, I love when we have pup day at work. One day I will adopt a pup and be so happy.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Danessa Myricks Chrome eye pencils. Pricey, finicky, they work great for under eyes and exact placement. Rediscovery Saie Sunmelt cream bronzer and their eyebrow product. Saie cream bronzer blends and layers beautifully with other products, the eyebrow spoolie is just enough wax to last for 12+hrs, subtle, holds shape but not stiff.
Weekend plans: self care, chores, listening to music, things that clear my brain from a busy week.
What are you looking forward to in May? Flowers blooming and birds singing.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Purlisse had a cool deal going on so I picked up more BB cream!
Weekend plans: No plans. Hopefully swim.
What are you looking forward to in May? Getting some important appointments done.
Recent purchases: only a new bottle of OPI Black Cherry Chutney because I’m afraid it might be discontinued (it’s one of the polishes I really like so it’s a very real possibility, especially since it’s been around for ages).
Rediscoveries: the original TheBalm Balmbini palette – the one with Insane Jane in it. I used it yesterday – Insane Jane eyeshadow, Downboy blush and even a bit of The MaryLouManizer on the inner corners of my eyes.
Weekend plans: watching some of the Coronation of King Charles (I am still not used to that) – I’ve taped it – and going to the gym. I want to make a big batch of chili this evening as well. Tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be gorgeous (after days and days of rain). I’m meeting a friend for brunch and then maybe I’ll take a really nice long walk.
What am I looking forward to in May – our 43 wedding anniversary is coming up, as it Mothers Day (and a Mothers Day tea with my daughter, her mother in law and her sister in law at the home of Alexander Graham Bell – it’s now a museum and events space)
These puppies are so adorable!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’ve been enjoying light and/or citrus scents as the summer rolls in.
Weekend plans: I went to an animal park and was able to pet a capybara! It was just as magical as you would imagine.
What are you looking forward to in May? School ends, vacation begins!
