What kind of wear and longevity do you look for in a lipstick? What's most/least important?

Three to four hours without completely fading, and it’s important it doesn’t just cling to imperfections or settle into lip lines as it wears down. I want it to wear away evenly.

I like a longer wearing lipstick but one with a creamy, hydrating quality. MAC’s Amplified Cream lipsticks pretty much embody what I like as did one from Guerlain that is no longer available and some wonderful ones from Clarins – the Rouge Prodige formula (discontinued far too quickly quite a number of years ago). I dislike matte or “liquid” lipsticks but do like something that wears a bit longer and fades evenly and all 3 of those formulas did just that!

I also enjoyed the Rouge Prodige lipsticks and had a range of them when an Australian online retailer was selling them for more than half price off. One of my favourites from the range was Red Terra – the only red that never turned pink on me and Spicy Cinnamon.
I also bought some of the coral shades for my DIL and she loved them too.
It’s a shame that Clarins had d/c the best of the beauty products….

Those Rouge Prodige lipsticks weren’t around for very long at all – maybe a year? Even at full price, they were terrific. Shiseido also had some superb lipsticks a few years back and they, too, have been discontinued and replaced. I wonder why companies develop, release and market products only to discontinue them so quickly. I guess it has to do with sales, although Clarins isn’t particularly known for their colour cosmetics, though they have had some stellar products over the years. They’ve also discontinued quite a few of my favourites from their skincare line – so many things like a great throat cream (but they kept the inferior but pricier Super Restorative one), an eye cream with SPF, a wonderful cream cleanser….I could go on and on. Mind you, so many companies have discontinued or reformulated some of their very best products too. I don’t know if those more recent changes are in pursuit of the “clean” marketing claims or what but so many things are worse than their “predecessors”.

Im in the minority cuz i expect long wear. Especially from a darker color. However i do agree. I want no dryness and flakiness as it wears off.

I wear sheer tinted balms, glosses or lip oils almost exclusively so I’m happy with 2 hours of wear time. I want them to stay inside my lip lines and fade evenly so I can reapply quickly without much fuss or a mirror. I’ll occasionally wear a medium to full opacity lipstick and want the same features as before but 3- 4 hrs of wear.

First of all, apart from the shade colour that has to be one I would favour, it must be a lipstick that is creamy, hydrating with a satiny kind of finish – absolutely no mattes for me!
I want the lipstick to apply easily across my lips, be pigmented and feel comfortable to wear.
I don’t mind reapplying after a couple of hours, but I certainly don’t want the lipstick disappearing after 5 minutes (like Revlon lipsticks do on me).
An example of my favourite lipsticks is CP’s Lux lipstick range – great quality, creamy, hydrating, a wide range of colours and at a very reasonable price.

Most important: No bleeding! Comfort (a semi-matter to satin usually is most comfortable for me). Hydration (without being slippery)!
Least important: If it has a slight perfume to it or stains.
Wear: If I can have 5 to 6 hours (most of a workday out) them I’m happy. I don’t care to retouch and rarely do even if I have the tube with me. I just don’t think about it.
