We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I bought a “grab-bag” from Sydney Grace and it turned out to be the loveliest selection of plums, grays, and blues. It’s in a palette and I added other singles to balance it out. So, it’s really just happenstance!
The closest I’ve come to making a custom palette is swapping out shades in ColourPop palettes. I hate the glitter shades, so I’ve gotten rid of them and replaced them with a shimmer or matte shade from another ColourPop palette that wasn’t getting much use.
I actually have had in my collection only one pallette in the last 5 or so years, and it’s my MAC custom made one. It was so great to have curated a set of eyeshadows that truly complement my complexion and lifestyle.
Yes. I have a custom SugarPill Pro Palette and a big custom Coastal Scents palette from before it was easy to find bright, warm mattes (guess what got popular and ubiquitous a few months later). I made a small magnetic palette with my powder brow color, a white matte e/s, a black matte e/s, and a light shimmer to augment premade palettes that are lacking these basics. I also have a custom palette of Looxi Beauty Aurora Shadows. I have others that are custom in the sense I picked out the shadows from a particular brand, but they’re not necessary coordinated to be a cohesive palette.
Rachel, that’s such a good idea! Dah! Now that I think about it, I think I made a similar three-shade palette (MUFE sale), but because I packed it away, I never thought to use it that way. I just mentioned before seeing your comment that I often have to add a brow bone color (not usually the dark shade color or inner corner) to my fav palettes. So after having an “awakening” from your comment, I’m going to take it out of my travel case (since I’m rarely traveling these days) and use it. Thanks!
I’m glad that was useful!
Yes! Many, in fact! MAC Pro Single e/s’s in a bunch of Elf quads, ColourPop along with a few Devinah duochromes in a large CP palette, one with Lethal Cosmetics and Clionadh multichromes in a smaller palette, plus Sydney Grace In Mel’s Memory in one of their large palettes.
Yes! I made myself a 12-pan “everyday” palette after the SG Black Friday Sale. I often reach for certain shades in other palettes too, so I’ve been considering pulling the MVPs into a custom palette as well. Here are the singles in my little custom palette: https://www.temptalia.com/color-stories/everyday-cool-tones/
No I don’t really. I have a magnetic case that I have put in all my singles from SG, but they aren’t in any particular order as there is not too many of them.
Yes, and like you I rarely go back to them, but I will now that you brought it up. I have a lovely midnight blue-themed one, a light mauve, purplish, mermaid-themed one (lot’s of duo chrome and shimmer) and a brown hues-themed one. I’ve been sticking to palette and adding only a missing brow bone color (that’s usually what’s missing for me in most of my favorite palettes).
Oh, yes. I do. Several. They’ve been rearranged and edited over the years, but currently, I have:
Metallics: Duochrome toppers I mixed and pressed myself using supplies from TKB, plus a few pressed loose shadows from MAC and Sugarpill
Neutrals: ABH, ColourPop, Inglot, MAC, MUG, UD, some depotted Sleek shadows (Ultra Mattes V1 and V2 plus one shade from Curaçao), and one Yaby
Colors: again, ABH, ColourPop, Inglot, MAC, MUG, UD, depotted Sleek (Ultra Mattes V2 and Curaçao), my other Yaby, and a depotted NYX single (super old…pre-L’Oréal…square compact with the pyramid pan!)
Depotted Urban Decay palettes (Heavy Metals, Naked 3, and Mariposa)…initiated after a shade fell out of Naked 3 all on its own 😅
Large pans: three MUFE, 17 Sugarpill, two Sephora, one Stila, and one depotted Julep. I’m fine mixing pans of different shapes, but mixing round pans of different diameters is actually logistically difficult (actually, the Julep is not too large around, but it is domed…too thick 😂).
Someday I’d like to try some other brands and have a palette of multichromes as well…but at the moment,
have more than enough and can’t justify the expense!
